At its core, I disagree with this definition. Inferno, Short Circuit, Fire Sword Circle, and Havoc Punch are just a few very good melee-range attacks.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The exceptions are not the rule. Blasters, overall, do their most effective work outside of melee range (you know this).

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, I don't know that. I know how I play, and I'm in and out of melee range all the time. What's the total damage on a Bonesmasher/Energy punch combo? What kind of ranged singletarget damage can you do in that time?
  2. One of each.

    That's what I did.
  3. One thing to watch for is the "Wait, didn't anyone refill the inspiration chest?" problem. If you have two or more people in the SG, there's a good chance it'll get emptied and not refilled, and then you have to have the "Roommate talk" with each other.
  4. Claws: I don't think that's optimum (from the standpoint of tickets.) It may be optimum (from the standpoint of convenience.) Like I said, I don't have a good feel for tix vs. money.

There's a poster that's been fairly prolific on starting threads this morning that's asking a lot of the latter kind of question...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've been trying to cut them some slack [assuming the same poster] because they ARE on a 14-day trial.

We shall see if I continue being a good, polite person... and if they continue starting threads every time something crosses their mind.
  6. I don't see how redside is that hard. You cruise the coast near the fort, when you ding you jump a big group, you can get to level 4 in about 20 minutes.

    What are you doing, FluShots?

At its core, the Blaster AT is all about doing massive damage from range.

At its core, I disagree with this definition. Inferno, Short Circuit, Fire Sword Circle, and Havoc Punch are just a few very good melee-range attacks.

I would tend to recommend Fire/Ice. You have two good approaches to mitigation- the corner + ice patch, and Shiver. Shiver will double or triple your lifespan, because enemies will have half or a third of the recharge. One warning-it's nearly a half-circle and it's got a HUGE range. You may aggro people you can barely see. Fire primary brings lots, LOTS, of damage. Firebreath/Fireball will generally drop even con minions without using either Aim or Build Up. Yes, ten at a time. Yes, in four seconds. Yes, every ten seconds or so. Yes, it's fun.

I like Sonic and Ice primaries, and mental and elec and energy secondaries, as well.

Maybe this will help your playstyle.
  8. During raids, there is a several second period while the Rikti are teleporting in. It used to be you could shoot them during this period, but they couldn't shoot you. Much fun was had.

Then they changed it. You cannot shoot them. They cannot shoot you. But they can still be TARGETED.

    Yeah, it's annoying.
  9. Found my new Niche To Bust. (The last one was utterly not busted. You can still triple or quadruple your money in it. Grrr.) Villain High-Level Common Salvage. I'm breaking my own rules here- it's vague and it's low-end- but you can invest one slot and turn 50K into 2 million.
  10. It all depends what you mean by "Is".
  11. There are some stupid prices on uncommon salvage - well, stupid price spreads. I saw something this morning where the "buy it now" price was 200K and the "Wait ten minutes" price was 5K.

I don't know what the optimum price strategy is.
  12. If you have a lot of influence - so much you don't know what to do with it- millions and hundreds of millions to spare- you can burn some of it to get Prestige.

It's a really bad ratio- 100 million inf = 200K prestige. But I'm willing to match up to 100 million.
  13. I thought trial accounts could reach level 14.

To clarify Von Krieger's post (which may not need it): You can get a "taste" of flying at level 5 with a temporary power which runs out after 2 hours.

The level 14 Fly power is something you can use as long as you want. Fly a hundred yards up in the air, go grab a sandwich in safety, come back, cruise through zones that would otherwise kill you, etc. - and it's a lot faster than the temp power.
  14. Ten of each... man, I'm gutless.

He seemed to be okay with that, not really interested in learning anything to keep from dying so much. He was convinced it was impossible. (Even though I wasn't dying frequently.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

I hate this attitude. PArt of it's the I1-I4 culture (when you're 300 times more fragile than the tank you will die often and for no reason) and part of it's the learned response to the midlife crisis.

When you all of a sudden do the same thing you always did and you die fifteen times in a row, you get the Fear. One response to the Fear is to stop playing that character. One response is to get very, very cautious. And one response is to go into battle assuming yourself dead, like a samurai. It's hard to get "just cautious enough" and "just crazy enough" in the right blend.

I started my Force Field defenders to give Blasters a break from the Fear.
  16. To answer the actual asked question: Ice/ice is like three or four times as survivable as AR/DEv, unless you spend a very long time setting up every fight.
  17. Think of it as a sequel game- sort of the same in general, but none of the specifics are the same. Look in my sig for a starter guide to Invention Enhancements. Don't freak out about the prices- you can SELL for millions as well as BUY for millions.
  18. The "Standard AOE" primaries are archery, AR and fire for blasters. (We don't get Dark. Yet?)

I built a PBAOE Mess (Elec/Fire) but it only made it to about level 13. I think some of the key elements are just too damn slow and you'd have to be suicidal or know a force fielder really well. Or both.
  19. Well, there's profitable and there's "seven digit cost, eight digit sell price"... my last "blown" niche was a profit factor of 5 COUNTING THE WENTS FEE.

... I need to find a new niche to smack up.
  20. So when a Blaster uses Force of Nature and Personal Force Field to win the RWZ challenge, they're somehow not a blaster?

    Passing down inf

There was a guy named "Banker Bob" who used to transfer inf around for people; worked for tips.

I use Influence Transfer, but be aware that there are a number of new kid mistakes you can make and lose your inf.

If you don't understand why some part of the directions on the website are there... either assume that it avoids a trap you did not detect, or ask us and we'll explain.
  22. To the OP: It sounds like either you've made up your mind and you're just going to repeat yourself, or you're asking us to tell you "it's really not that bad."

A Blaster puts out roughly 50% more firepower than a Scrapper, if they're both going full out. A Scrapper, NOT COUNTING MEZ PROTECTION WHICH IS LARGE, is about six times as hard to kill. Is that a ratio you're comfortable with? If not, go roll up a scrapper.
  23. You can't trade recipes directly between two characters on the same account. You can pass off a recipe to someone [can you still do that with temp accounts or is that one of the things they disabled? It is possible, though not necessarily simple, to run two copies of the game on one computer] and have them pass it back to your alt.
  24. It's not exactly sustainable... if I want to burn 10 billion, I have to conserve my fuel.

Defender damage is sub par overall. Once it is accepted you get used to it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yep. Despite apologia, the fact remains that defenders hit like girls with muscular dystrophy. I know it's for balance. It's just one of those things that makes you sigh when you are reminded of it. Defenders are still an amazing AT, but just like scrappers aren't known for their debuffs, defenders aren't known for their damage dealing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree Defendes really do bring alot to the table. There is no shame in doing less damage then others.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Please name one thing that the defender brings to the table that is not better brought by controllers?

    [/ QUOTE ]

So that smiley is actually "smirk"? Huh.

What do controllers have that beats Sonic Blasts?
