Quote:Agreed on both. I kind of disliked how Marvel tried to hammer in both the Sentry and Jessica Jones into prior continuity; it's the Star Wars prequels all over again. You have to wonder, does everybody know everybody in this world? According to the writers, yes, yes they do.Generally because Bendis is too busy not writing the rest of the Avengers properly to be able to not write proper interplay between two of his pet characters.
Snark aside, i dug Alias and think it would work well as a TV show. I just hope they keep any other references to the rest of the Marvel universe to a minimum. -
Wow. On ABC? Her past is pretty dark; I'm guessing that they would either heavily editorialize it, or just never show it.
While the background of Jessica Jones is interesting, she's been kind of a bland player in recent times. I sometime wonder if she was brought into the fold just to antagonize Luke Cage. It may just be me, but every issue appears to have her either worrying about the baby or trying to convince Luke to retire. I can understand the sentiments behind both, but it seems like it's emphasized on a far too regular basis. -
Quote:You do have a right to vent. However, posting a vent in a place where others can read is allowing others to make comments on your post, whether good or bad. It's the Internet; don't expect everyone to agree with you, and post glowing commentary. This game is basically my hobby and it upsets me when I can't play. I'm well aware of the maintenence schedule and all of the stated caveats about downtime. It doesn't lessen the impact it has on me and if I wish to vent about it I will.
In addition, being 60 years old, you should know that the world doesn't revolve around your schedule. I would have loved to play this morning, but c'est la vie. As I work in the afternoons and evenings, this day is a wash for me playing. At least you can log in later to play, if you desire.
As long as the devs are working to resolve issues and bring us new content, I'm content. Try exercising a little more patience; the world needs more patient people, not less. -
Quote:Funny thing about this: Most of Leslie Nielsen's fans at the time hated him in Airplane and the other comedic movies he ended up doing. Leslie, however, felt that comedy was his true calling, and was glad that he did Airplane.Leslie Neilson in Airplane . . . before Airplane, Nielson was known only as a serious actor. His career completely turned around and he became known to a later generation only as a comic actor.
Arnold Schwarzenegger tried to break out of his action guy roles, with comedy movies like Kindergarten Cop, Twins, Junior and Jingle All the Way. None were very commercially successful, so he went back to sci-fi/action, with Eraser, the 6th Day, and End of Days. -
Quote:Especially one as cute as Maggie? Glenn just doesn't strike me as the ladies' man prior to the ZA; we already know he was a pizza delivery guy, and they aren't generally rolling in the dough, so to speak. If the world was ending, and one of the last available, living women on earth came on to me, the only thing I'd pause for is to make sure the floor was clear of broken glass.
You gotta give him props though; he was making solo trips into Atlanta. That takes some courage, to keep going back to a zombie wasteland.
"Hey Glenn, you just survived a zombie apocalypse; what are you going to do now?"
"I'm going back in!" -
Quote:There's a lot we don't know about the Merle/Daryl dynamic. Did they get along at all? Was Daryl just incensed about Merle being left behind because that's who Daryl is vs. actually caring about Merle? Is there something more, like Lothic pointed out in that double entendre? (One word: Ewwww!)He knows Daryl is resourceful enough to not die, maybe? Also what someone else said about waiting to get his brother away from the group. That be great for a chance to talk, or turn him against the rest of the group maybe...
Just based on what we've seen, I've pictured Merle as the dominant, overbearing older brother, essentially making Daryl's life miserable. Daryl felt some responsibility towards Merle; hence the anger when he was told Merle was left behind. Afterwards, he doesn't seem too concerned that Merle is gone. Maybe he is realizing that he is better off without Merle?
If this is what's occurring, it'd be a real shock to Daryl if it is actually Merle that he sees vs. a hallucination, ZombMerle, etc. -
Quote:You're right; I didn't read it. Couldn't bring myself to do so, after I saw that they removed her paralysis.I'm going to guess you haven't read it because it's made very clear she used to be paralysed. It's one of the first thing she mentions in the first comic. She talks about it while out 'back on the job'. She has a flashback to the moment when confronted with her first gun. The fact it went away mysteriously is a plot point that is bound to come up sooner or later.
So she absolutely was paralyzed in the New DC and is only now getting back into the Batgirl routine.
I'm not saying that her paralysis defined her character; it's just that Barbara fought hard to be defined by what she could still do. To just nullify that seems pretty poor judgement to me. -
Yeah, I wasn't happy with what they did with Barbara Gordon.
Before - Despite her disability, Barbara Gordon is still crime-fighting as Oracle, giving valuable information to a lot of heroes (the Bat family, JL, Birds of Prey, etc.). She is a valued asset to heroes worldwide.
After - Yeah, let's just make her Batgirl again. Not like we already had a Batgirl or anything. Oh yeah, she was never paralyzed.
Just seems to me, DC figured that being disabled was not considered a good thing for anyone trying to act heroic, so they just retconned it out of existence. Wish more real world problems could be fixed that way... -
Quote:Yeah, it's a little weird that his survival/evolution ability somehow didn't help him survive? Even in the comics, his ability has kicked in and teleported him away, when there was no chance of survival otherwise. Now there´s a surprise.
But I somehow expect Darwin to return. -
Quote:Agreed. It'd be pretty anticlimactic for Lori to go to Rick and say "I'm pregnant", and for him to say, "Yeah, I've known for weeks..."Well now that we (the audience) know that Lori's pregnant we can pretty much dismiss that as a theory as to what Dr. Jenner's "big secret" was to Rick. There'd be no point to having that be Jenner's secret to Rick only to have it revealed to us in a way that didn't involve Rick at all. With the way Rick is getting majorly depressed and entertaining ideas of wanting to stay where they are it's looking more and more like the big secret involved something doomtastic along the lines of "everyone's infected and it's only a matter of time before everyone's going to become a zombie with no hope of being saved".
Plus, Lori would be pretty ticked, I'm guessing.
Quote:With that little emotional speech Daryl made about the Cherokee Rose he's now pretty much my favorite character of the show.
Quote:Yeah it's not that slow pacing's been bad (because it's allowed for the story threads with both Carl and Sophia) but it's definitely gotten noticeable. If they don't get back "out on the road" again by next episode it'll be really weird.
Quote:I'd like to think Glen was "nerd sexy" enough to have had a girlfriend before the ZA. But the fact that he's now just about the only eligible, single 20-something guy around obviously upped his chances to score quite a bit. It'll be interesting to see if she ends up wanting to leave with Glen or if Glen's going to want to end up staying with her. -
Quote:I am not understanding the vitriol here. It's not like they started giving lower amounts of Inf when Freedom launched; new players are having the exact same rate of Inf both pre- and post-Freedom. What did you do when you first started this game?I am stating a very clear point. The Devs have clearly stated SOs are what the game is built around. If you run regular content and get to 22 and again at 27, you will not be able to afford SOs. This can cost us the opportunity of retaining new Freebs that are giving us a look. That is stupid.
I got a bit lucky, and had a friend gift me some influence. (This was I3, so you had to earn influence first before handing it out.) Others, then and now, could get lucky, or they could try to make smart decisions about what to put SOs in, and what to put DOs in. Or, I suppose, they could complain about being poor.
Honestly, I think that we've all gotten a bit spoiled in having massive amounts of money available to us at lower levels; maybe being poor and under-enhanced would give us a better perspective on things? -
Heh, thinking about it, if they had bundled a Hail to the King badge or a temp power named Boomstick, they probably would have gotten more buyers.
-
Agree with the general sentiment: It's a neat idea, but a little too high in price. It's pretty rare for me to use a temp, consumable power that requires a weapon draw; I have had my original Holy Shotgun Shell temp power since I3 or so.
Warwolf Whistle is nice, tho...temp pets are always useful. Will they sell them individually, or just as part of the set? -
Quote:Had to laugh at this, thanks!Heisenberg and Schroedinger are driving and get pulled over.
The cop asks, "Do you know how fast you were going?"
Heisenberg says. "No, but I can tell you exactly where I was."
The cop thinks this answer is warrant for a search, and finds a dead cat in the trunk.
He asks, "Do you know you have a dead cat in the trunk?"
Schroedinger says, "Pft, well I do now." -
Quote:Guess it really depends on what kind of zombies we are talking. For example, in the Walking Dead, they are attracted by sound, so silent methods of killing would be best. In this case, I'd choose:Okay, so this might be a little off-topic here, but I figure that it's a good place to get info from people who are into this sort of thing.
So, the zombie apocalypse has occurred, and you're in it for the long haul. On you're journey you come across a purveyor of all sorts of weaponry (from stone-age to modern firearms). You can take only two weapons total, but your choices are limited to what you could actually carry (so no choosing a tank). What two weapons do you take to fight the zombie horde for the long run?
1. A ranged weapon, probably a crossbow. I've little experience with handling a regular bow, and a crossbow is more forgiving with aim. Also, crossbows/bows have little chance of jamming.
2. A melee weapon of some sort. I'd go with a lightweight sword of some kind; you may need to wield it for a long stretch, so you wouldn't want anything that would tire you out. However, you also want something with some length, to keep them from getting too close. -

Quote:With a little Indiana Jones thrown in there...Heck going by this description you could call Warehouse 13 a copy of X-Files
But it's exactly my point. You can see elements of other stories in newer stories; it doesn't invalidate whether the newer story is good or not. Obviously Warehouse 13 has its fans, or otherwise it would have been cancelled by now. (Something SciFi is notorious for doing; killing off shows. And yes, I refuse to spell it the other way.) -
Quote:Ouch.I had a run last month on a full team of 8; we got 8 clones of the team leader and none of the rest of the party. Unfortunately the team lead was Ill/Time so things got interesting with 8 sets of Phantom Army and all the slows and holds flying. I can't remember offhand if they summoned Phantasms or not but it was a real challenge since most of the team were in Posi level range of 11-16. As I recall we loaded up on insps and worked on single pulling them to clear the thing.
I did a Posi recently, where 3 of the people were Time. The clones were remarkably good at locking us down; we also had to pull individuals to get them cleared out. -

Quote:Kirkman has already said that the comics will be no indicator on what happens on the TV series. Just for example, Otis lived longer in the comics, as he was around for the next leg of the survivor's journey. In addition, Shane had already died before the survivors left the Atlanta area.Well they've already deviated from the snails-space zombies in the comics to the speed walkers, so who knows how much of what Kirkman says is valid in this series? Not to mention that all of the tissue isn't going to die off in the 15 seconds it takes for the zombies to get to Otis . . .
I, for one, am glad that the TV series is going to veer away from the comics. It gives the series a nice sense of mystery; I can still be surprised. Shane's action, while not terribly surprising, was enough to give me a jolt; I'm hoping that the surprises keep coming.
One last point: We still don't know why the zombies selectively will only eat still living flesh. I'm sure that Otis died during the buffet, as it were, but they kept feeding. Is it warmth? A reminder of what they were like once? Hard to say, as the zombies aren't talking. -
Quote:I thought about this before, with the truck being taken in season 1. My guess is, that they decide beforehand to leave the keys in the car/truck, so that the loss of one person does not doom them all.I think it would've been hilarious had Shane shot Otis, got back to the pickup, and realized that Otis had the keys on him.
Of course, it'd be funny to see Shane jump in the car at the last minute, just ahead of zombies, only to get that incredulous look on his face. -

Quote:I'd have to somewhat agree with this, but also somewhat disagree. Perception is a key ingredient to originality; how we perceive something can define whether we see it as tired and old vs. fresh and new. There's no such thing as originality because everything is just a collage of existing ideas put into an unlimited number of ways. Indeed, there may be existing ideas that have not been put together before which makes it seem original but ultimately they are all within our own experiences and are thus coherent with what we understand. It may be possible to break those boundaries with original pieces of art, music or poetry but for the purposes of City of Heroes our hands have been dealt for us and that hand is full of what coheres to our expectations of the genre.
A quick example of this is the television series Fringe. It gets frequently compared to X-Files, in terms of a governmental agency investigating paranormal occurrences. If that is your whole exposure to it, then your perception of the series would be that of a copy of an original series. Of course, going from there, we can say that X-Files was a copy of Kolchak, and Kolchak was based on the novels, etc.
We can trace certain elements of any story back several hundred years, so it's naturally going to be harder to put new spins on old storylines. Vampires can be traced back to Bram Stoker's Dracula (the novel, not the Keanu Reeves vehicle), which was based on folktales and legends. Was Bram Stoker unoriginal? To a certain extent, yes. It was his storytelling that changed his audiences' perception of the vampire folktale, which made his story unique.
I guess what I am trying to say is that, while there may be nothing new under the sun, it's how it is presented and how we perceive it that can make it seem new to us. -
Quote:Scientists have run studies on people placed in sensory deprivation rooms; they've seen that a part of the brain activates after a couple of minutes of deprivation, which coincided with the subject feeling a presence in the room. So, it's not just you.If I am in the basement at night getting my laundry and I turn the lights out, I can very easily scare the bejeesus put of myself simply by imagining there is someone or something down there with me, even though I logically know there isn't.
(And yes, I get those feelings as well.)
I'm really uncomfortable around heights, but it's more from a fear of falling. Not sure why I am, but I've been that way since I was a kid. -
That was awesome!
And the Ood so needs to get his own dancing reality show... >.>
