Quote:And they'd be wrong in two ways:
1. More than 45% is NOT extraneous against anything with some decent +Tohit or -Def. That includes a LARGE number of AVs and even some standard mobs especially at the higher levels.
2. Does EVERYONE on their team have 45% with just Mind Link? If Not then they SHOULD have TT:M as well.
This is seriously exactly akin to a Dom or Troller not taking their single target hold, or a scrapper not taking his highest level attack, or a Tanker not taking his Mez protection. If you don't want those powers you should have rolled a different AT.
1. Really? Do we have to do this every permutation thing and nitpick...really?
2. And the only source of +def on this mythical team that youre kicking people from is the SoA? None of the other buffs this mythical SoA without TT:M brings is worth keeping around? This is the only one worth anything to you? So is the converse true....if this mythical SoA takes TT:M but takes 3 power pools worth of powers and is a dillhole besides is he now worth keeping? What level do this mythical SoA have to take TT:M by to fit your design standards....?
Sometimes I think people need to realize this is just a game and theres a certain amount of fun in just playing it... -
Quote:The team could possibly be worse off. Not taking TT:M could leave the team short of softcapping if that was the plan from giving the 8th slot to a SoA. Or it could mean the SoA needs more babysitting because they get hurt and die more often. Most likely though, they could just be that cluelessly stubborn that it is a reflection on their Leeroy Jenkins playstyle that is detrimental to any team. Either way, there is no clear indication that the team would be better off and lacking TT:M is a red flag that should be noted.
Or they could be softcapped with a couple of set bonuses and perma-mindlink and realized everything after 45% is just extraneous.
Seriously even the phrasing of the title is misleading....what player "refuses" to take TT:Manuveurs...they are either ignorant of game mechanics or build in such a way that is unneccessary. For the record my Fort carries double assault, double manuveurs and the TT:Leadership (so I can slot 6 Gaussians and the +Perception), but if there was something I wanted more than Manuveurs I wouldnt hesitate to swap them out and build to the soft cap with only IO bonuses, a supressed Mask Presence, Perma Mindlink and the auto powers. Really the +15% Def from Mind Link isnt enough to get me invited to a team, not to mention the controls and damage I bring?
Just last month we had a long arduous thread about not taking Mind Link and how people should be kicked from teams, and now I have to take Leadership and Manuveurs....?
I dont know, seems like people are being pretty free with other peoples power slots... -

Ranked #27
That is all
The money pit makes me laugh every time I walk by it. I dont know if that was purposeful on the base designers part...but having a decorative incinerator is soooo appropriate for this endeavor. If only Brewster had thought of a dollar power incinerator to go "green" -
Quote:So yah...90% of the SoA I run into or team with dont have that>.< Is there some sort of conspiracy?? T_T Its in virtue server btw
Okay so first its Mind Link now its TT: Manuevers and Tactics...
Would you guys just come together and decide what our SOAs builds are supposed to be and let us know....this paucity of information is disheartening...
--Frog -
I see a lot of what you did was to add damage buffs to your build and thats great when you have about 90% damage to each individual power and all your other wants are taken care of. Rech and Defense being more important....
In this case you want to get Mind Link to being perma and use that in turn to build towards the defensive soft cap
1 Ditch the stealth pool. Youre using that for Lotg mules when you could just use your defensive powers for that
2 Switch out the red fortunes for LotGs....really you could make up the damage by adding Leadership: Assault and aid the rest of the team
3 In lieu of stealth add mask presence back in
4 You have a lot of recharge. Get Mind Link perma. Everyone will thank you. I put a very expensive way in, if inf is an object use the seven extra slots left over to frankenslot some def/rech IOs in there to do the same thing
5 I would change a lot of things, but honestly youre not going to have end problems with all those purples slotted.
6 Removed confusion for Confusion Aura...might as well have the aoe, that seems more useful
7 Dominate is an attack, it probably should be slotted as such with a hold IO added.
Hope that helps

Quote:Hey guys, I've seen a few "melee forts" posts floating around, but an unsure of how effective they really are. The reason I ask is because the idea of double-stacked FU + stacked assault + aim looks like the recipe for some wicked damage.
Anyone have success with something like this?
Im pretty sure you cant take Follow Up and Aim on the same Character. However, Double Stacked FU+Stacked Assaults is still pretty good.
--Frog -
I would think Forts would compare favorably with Mind Controllers of some kind...if those controllers had soft capped defenses.....with the Teamwork toggles being roughly analagous to a team buffing secondary and other abilities to confuse, hold and immobilize that would seem correct...
And Night Widows...sure a Claws/SR with team buffs and critical hits would be a gross generalization but thats what you wanted....
--Frog -
I am not ashamed to admit, I started by flipping Spirit Thorns....buying at less than 100 inf, selling at 250+.....and vendoring at least 3 stacks in 5. Then I moved on to vulturing level 45 Common IO recipes....then flipping rare salvage...then memorizing and crafting level 35 Commons....
Now Im a full fledged Marketophile or Flipologist or whatever..but I always look back at Spirit Thorns with a certain fondness.

Quote:I wrote down the numbers for the SG below and the two SG's above us. So I can see if they're a significantly moving target. Advance warning was given to someone from #26 and #17 (Dragons/Rogues of Ruin).
#10, Paragonian Knights, is currently at about 151.6 million prestige [that's 76B] and we're at 67.7 million prestige.
I figure it's going to be a little while before I can toss in another billion here- my finances are coming back from my prior imprudent spending, but slowly.
"Advance Warning??!!??" Who would do such a thing...? Thats almost ebil.
Hopefully that means they start churning their own inf onto the pile, only making us stronger in the process.
I actually figured when this whole thing started we wouldnt quite be able to do it....but with enough people actively marketeering it is quite possible it seems. We've burnt 38 Billion give or take....good gawd -
Quote:My Stalker is almost as IO'd out as I plan for her to get and still has a good chunk left, let alone any future marketeering, so I can probably donate a few hundred million inf at least. (And on the upside, Silverbuilt makes a decent name for a decadent capitalist, I think!) Who do I contact for an invite these days?
I actually bought two this weekend, at Buy It Nao prices. Glad to do my part, citizen.
The best way I think (because for the most part not many actually play these toons) is to join TheMarket global channel and just ask for someone to invite you. Ill be on tonight starting approximately 9PM ET

Quote:We're #32 and it's going to get a little slower from here on in, I expect. I changed the SG message to "Relaxed, casual players buying our way through the top 100. SG started 9/23/10. No requirements for first rank. Second rank at 2,000,000 prestige. Third rank at 4,000,000 prestige. Fourth rank at 10M and fifth at 20M. Join us on #themarket! "
What do you think? Is it ... insouciant enough?
32? Okay how far to the top 10? And we're going to have to track how fast the number one slot is earning...vs how fast we're earning etc...or do we even care?
(had a 400 million error in my favor over the weekend...that went straight into the firepit...so thank you to the guy with the really expensive Impervium Armor IO, that error bought our individually monogrammed toilet paper) -

Sense of perspective? Hold on, I saw Azuria holding on to that the other day. Go ask her, Im sure she still has it some place....

Quote:It looks like the folks who hosted that CC last night are all organized and stuff- here's the details on their 'show'.
They've got a room in their base replicating the Project:Runway look and we got invited in for a 'photo shoot' after the contest. It was a fun time.
Can I just say, while thats not my thing, I love it when people use the game for some end thats not intended but go all out and make it just as legitimate as anything the dev community might come up with.
Im gonna burn a billion in their honor...
--Frog -
So, just to say look at me....I joined up last night after finally finishing up with Praetoria...I wanted to make a Mind Dominator that used her mental powers to force people to pay outrageous prices for goods. I list at 50000001 and you pay 10 million thanks to my powers.....
Its brilliant....
So I burned 2 Billion and felt all kinds of happy about it. Really weird feeling from a hoarder like myself.
Thanks for having me

Quote:Nope, didnt say that....best of luckI also like the way you try to say that flippers are not part of the market. While I can't divine the original intent I can certainly see the consequences.
Quote:It may not have been their intent but between tickets and merits they put in a means where the market can be completely bypassed in a reasonably time efficient fashion. With HVMs they nailed that coffin shut.
Tickets, I got no idea what they were thinking....
Theres more than one interpretation depending on where you stand. I guess its true "if the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail" -
Quote:I13:Merits
I14:Tickets
I18:Hero Villain Merits
They certainly seem to have been trying to provide the ability to not deal with flippers or the market in general to people.
Thats disingenuous at best.....the devs put alternate forms of supply that mitigate market interaction for those that dont want to deal with a consignment house. Flippers do not equate to the market, nor can you define the original intent. -
Quote:Im not trying to be a contrarian neccessarily....but your SG should be about more than the prestige you earn. It should be a collection of like-minded individuals striving for a common goal or somesuch...in the spirit of the great Supergroups of comic lore. Our common goal happens to be the destruction of vast amounts of in-game wealth in a thoroughly bizarre and ultimately meaningless method.....the gnashing of teeth that accompany that is just bonus.I did read it. I read all 5 pages of it. I did that AFTER reading this one. I understand the logic behind all of this now. I also had another large wall of text written, but it decided not to post.
To sum it up... I don't like it. It's being done specifically to prove that INF doesn't mean anything and you want to burn it away. I just don't like it. It makes me wonder why I even play this game if there are people out there that are specifically trying to piss people off. I realize that people don't like Unknown Heroes. I realize people don't like EverStryke. I realize that the marketeers don't like RPers. But why? WHY must you do this? It just makes me feel bad. I play the game to have fun, and I like seeing the numbers go up just for playing the game. I am going to be quite disheartened to see you at #1... But like I said, nothing a 5 month veteran with 40-some-odd posts can say will change anything on your mind. I just figure I need to put my thoughts out here... You won't hear anyone else in my SG say anything because they're not a part of the forums... I guess it's stupid for me to even care, but whatever... I don't want this to seem like a rant, so much as just opening my thoughts. A rant would be me getting angry. I'm just a little... upset. I wish you guys the best though, and I hope you enjoy your newfound way to burn off extra INF. I just wish it wasn't Virtue... I guess...
On another note...now assuming Im finally ready to take my Praetorian Dominator out to Paragon...who do I see about an invite....? Approximately 9-10PM ET tonight....

I'm thinking there may be others I've missed but it really needs to be a strong market regular.
I agree with the sentiment if nothing else, this is a lot of virtual resources being promised for the attempt. At the end of the day we need someone who ultimately everyone can agree wont kick everyone out and doink everyone over in the process.
Start the SG...open up the permissions for everyone to do everything. I dont car if every single point of prestige gets spent then deleted if Im still in the SG. I dont think anyone is going to make this theyre defacto toon for any purpose so I nominate any of the market regulars who are completely uninterested to be our safety net and supreme leader. -
JUst for grins why dont we add that Grand Defulmenstrator get passed to whomever has the highest total....period (I dont know if thats possible without some auto-logout finagling)

Quote:Are you not going to be able to feed your kids if you dont get an NMI? Really? Are you in any mortal peril? Is any task going to take you hours longer if you dont get one of these? Is Goat buying up all the excess so he can sell it back at a profit even? It is not even remotely similar. If the Goat was selling these you may have a case. Its exactly the same principle. The guy selling flashlights has other things he can be doing. I live in a state that has antigouging laws that go into effect after natural disasters, hurricanes in particular. All they do is insure that additional supply of needed commodities is unavailable, and that the major suppliers get to work at their own pace.
This would be more akin to Goat buying all the flashlights from the gougers and then lighting them on fire with a flamethrower while maniaclly cackling as another truck marked "Cheap Flashlights" pulls up for delivery. Its silly and pointless but not in any way detrimental to anyone with half a wit to look at the second truck.
I can accept you think Im off in that point, just as I think we have no idea how many were supplied to Goat, how many were destroyed and what the typical NMI demand flow is. But merely as a factor of inf theres far more inf going to people selling than the total amount ever spent buying over that span. When you factor in theres always a backlog of NMIs to be sold and Goat was creeping into that, Im certain more were bought than were being supplied. If thats the case then it only stands to reason that more people on the demand side were selling theirs than a typical night. If Supply is Greater than Demand and Goat Demand is Greater than Supply then it stands to reason (according to the Transitive Property of something or other) that Goat Demand is greater than Demand....therefore more suppliers were happy than demanders unhappy..... -
Quote:Doesn't it strike you as ironic that you claim people are suffering from entitlement issues when you feel perfectly entitled to jerk the market around for fun?
The problem is that some of your fun comes at the expense of others.
Just like the guy selling flashlights for 50 bucks in blackout, people may pay what you ask but you aren't going to convince them that you did them a kindness.
But thanks for explaining the motivation for this kind of thing. Next time demonic blood sample hits 3 million I will understand that it's all in fun and just because someone can do it.
(but just so you know that is the classic power poilitics defense. "becasue we can")
Why do we always look at these things from the demand side...? Makes no sense. I am not an economist, nor do I play one on TV....but it would seem to me for every person shocked and dismayed about the NMI prices there was one who supplied it that said "Holy crap that sold for how much" during Goats shenanigans. Probably more than one if he was deleting faster than supply was coming in.
Truth be told, Im guessing Nethergoat made more people smile than cringe during his manipulations. And that should stick nicely in his craw.
Geez dude, comparing a want item in a video game to a need item for simple human survival (albeit in a temporary situation) is downright disingenous that does more harm to your position than good. -
Quote:Im going to take partial credit for the idea of buying out the top SG spot, its ridiculous and wasteful....with that being said my motives are nowhere near as nefarious as some...I'm a little confused as to the objectives of this project and was hoping someone here could enlighten me.
Lohenien was discussing it on Guardian and when I inquired, I was informed that the goal was "to act as a delation force on the market." Then it became that a group of market people would be destroying 300 billion to do "the same thing." I then wandered into this thread, and when I raised the issue, Lohenien suggested that he (or she) was acting to deflate the market, while everyone else (presumably this thread) was just acting to infuriate the role-playing crowd on Virtue.
So, at any rate, I don't really understand the goal of this project and would appreciate a little insight. If it is just trolling, well, not really my thing, but that's at least comprehensible to me. If there's an economic force behind it, I'd definitely enjoy more explanation.
Remember Brewsters Millions? What a great movie that was....some people in the market forum are Richard Pryor...buying icebergs to float to Africa, buying $200k collectors stamps and using them as postage, or in this case voting "none of the above". Some would take the 30Million and call it a day....some would find a way to do otherwise. Maybe a better movie reference would be Steve Martin in the Jerk, but I digress.
There is a worthwhile value to destroying inf. Fulmens, for all his efforts has only managed to destroy a tiniest of tiny fractions of a percentage of what is out there. In fact I doubt he (and others) kept up with what was being generated, so in a sense he looked like Gandalf standing in front of the Balrog saying "You shall not pass"....except he's just some dork in a cloak he made himself and light wand he got from Sharper Image. Anyhow, the reason he destroys inf is to keep it out of circulation, thus increasing the purchasing power of non-destroyed inf and holding prices down.
So, is my goal to destroy inf and help all the people of COH? No....not really. I dont care about what other people do in game. I have 10s of billions accumulated and need something to do with it plain and simple. I dont want to give it away because Im not altruistic, I dont want to burn it...if Im going to spend it I want to see something come from it. I know if I burn it on something Im just going to earn it back....so I need something big to do with my moola
In this case, buying the top spot on Virtue seems to be within reach of a consortium. Not comfortably so...but within reach. It would be visual representation of the power of the market.
I propose the formation of the "Crazy '88s"
Charter: A formation of like minded wealth-afflicted individuals with too much inf of all sorts. The goal of the organization would be the achievement of the Number One spot (based on prestige only) of the Virtue server. There is no minimum entry fee. SG Mode actively discouraged.
I however do not have any toons above level 10 on Virtue. So Im going to start work on that, if theres anyone who will volunteer to make the SG that would be appreciated. Otherwise you can wait a day or two for me to get to it. -
Quote:This is exactly the kind of thing that gives marketeers the reputation they have among the general population. Jerking around prices because you can seems pointless.
Most players who come to market and want to sell seldom are there enough to take advantage of these price spikes and when they sell after the flood hits they get nothing and have to pay through the nose, not because supply is insufficent but because someone is actually manipulating the market.
Well done on giving truth to the rumor that salvage is being controlled by ebillers. Things like this are the exact reason I don't identify myself as a marketeer or as ebill.
Im going to guess the grueling task of hoisting yourself up on your soapbox caused this particular line to be missed....
"Note to Haters:
as an illustration of the marketeer maxim PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE prices were back down around 1k shortly after I stopped probing the upper end of the supply."--Quoth the Goat
Its okay...happens to every one of us....but tends to deflate the idea that a single individual or small consortium of people can withstand market pressures long enough to cause significant long term price shift....
I miss the Rep function cause I know a small but enthusiastic hailstorm would be coming my way.... -
