Quote:Agreed. We're much more like a Federal Reserve system with market trading than a simple investment bank.
Btw: Do we want to cooperate to make sure we're not invading each other's niches or would that be too oligarchical and collusive for everyone.
I guess we should put all that somewhere out of the forums too like an email list or something.
I could care less if you moved in on my niches or I moved in on yours. Its healthy to occassionally move and good for the market as well.
For the record, I dont so much compete for profits within a niche as I crash it with bloody minded disregard for my competition so my opinion may be skewed.
Regardless though I bounce from niche to niche all the time with very little forethought so it wouldnt matter. -
Quote:So, it has become abundantly clear why some items cost 2 Billion per enhancer. It is a trick outlawed on Wall Street. It is called cornering the market. Take corn for instance. Buy up all the corn, or corn futures, that will arrive on Wall Street for the year. Then set your own price as to the selling price corn we be for that year. THis is especially easy to do in the game with items that are limited drops. (like PvP I/Os, purps, etc.)
So, I now know exactly how to approach the Devs to complain about who exactly is ruining play for their consumers, and exactly how they are doing it. Wish me luck.
I heart you. -
Quote:I get it. I was making fun.
Just because making MY life easier than a trust-fund kiddie would be a much better alternative doesn't mean I don't understand. Sadly the rest of the world does not yet know that they are here for my benefit, so this sort of thing goes on. Everything will be forgiven once I am the Benevelant Tyrant of Earth, except Kevin Stolls from second grade. I will never forgive you Kevin!!!

Though seriously why is this thread on the internal workings of a particular SG on Virtue in the Market section?
It started as a Market Forum project, amongst the market forum regulars....the debate amongst which server happened.....we ended up on Virtue. I think we could move, but then Virtue would know all our secrets and quite frankly, some of the market goers think the market forum is the only COH forum. Kinda like that really bad M Night Shyamalan movie...no, not that one, the other one, not the one yer thinking of though....The Village thats the one. -
Quote:Ah heres the rubWhat i hear you saying is, to make money in this game, stop playing the game, and go to the market.
what i am saying is this. Shouldnt people that play the game get the most rewards for time in game? Seriously. I am not kidding, I actually believe this. I am not trolling.
it is my belief that running a toon in the game should earn you better stuff than someone standing around the market. Especially if you do it consistently for years. I understand that is not how it works. I am not trolling. I am saying I cannot believe game designers made it so that the market is better than the game. It seems like the dumbest marketing ploy in the world.
Hey! Come play our game. you can stand around a market and really make a ton of imaginary cash. It will be so much cooler than going on missions and running a character. We know your time is limited, so just stand right there and flip. Don't let a second go to waste off adventuring.
Okay heres the unvarnished truth....the time sink to initially start in the market is largish....once youve found your niches then its ridiculously easy. I play two hours a night....I spend 10-15 mins (Ive timed it before)in the market or crafting...I dont think thats a significant chunk. I make more than a billion a week because thats the rate Im burning for the 88s. I can afford super purpled builds in a couple of weeks. I can do this because I read a guide a long time ago (thank you peterpeter) and then extrapolated from there. Im not a genius, I have no more resources than you do.
Your complaints are invalid. -
Its good...not great. My 7 year old son knows I love Capt America and I secretly let him stay up the night its on to watch it with me....
The intro song is okay. Its not something Im going to hum in the shower but I dont know where the hate is coming from
Anyone else crack up that Pym seems to get blasted every episode....my fave so far is the fireball to the face. Nothing says hero like smoldering eyebrows.

I always thought a Flipper was a dolphin that lived in a world full of wonder....

Quote:Getting a lot of invite requests, mentioning EverStryke...
EDIT: And the current count of requests to join the 88s in my inbox today was four.
You know...having a common goal is a terrific recruiting method....having a gibbering, poo-flinging monkey to poke with a stick is priceless.
Just saying....

Just burned another billion....the pit looks hungry.
Im slacking off a bit, my super purpled, pvp ioed Night Widow is taking all my time...I dont plan on PVPing with her....just purpling because I can

Quote:While contractors normally spend out of pocket and expense back, would it be better if you just got a shopping list together and we stop and Home Depot or Lowes and get what you need....well,
looks like I'll be turning into a flipper by default, considering all the marketeering I need to do to get the salvage for building our new shinies.
I guess before long, I'll be tossing Inf. into the pit with the rest of you ;p
TR
Alternately Id be more than happy to send you 100 million but youd have to promise to pay absurd amounts for all salvage purchased. -
Quote:You guys seem to be having the desired "ripple" effect on the other top SGs on Virtue, a few of whom seem to have responded to your rise.
Go ye and your "unnatural" methods of Prestige generation (you'll go blind from that you know, but can probably afford some pauper eyes if that does happen).
I never gotten so much joy out of one thread. Im giggling as I think about some guy sitting in his basement upset that he's going to lose his precious number 13 spot (or whatever) to dirty rotten exploiters.
Im throwing another billion on when I get home from work today just because -
Love that Doctor Dinosaur comic ...."ta da"....
Can I add my Evil Scientist is a crab spider. Using a scientist type costume with the ubiquitous crab legs looks very Doc Ock-like. Then add some robot underlings, the serum power, the leadership powers to simulate your firm tactical grasp and a few maniacal emotes and there ya go....
I just ignore the whole arachnos and soldier thing....meh....Dr Unpossible is a man of science, not some syncophant following the machinations of an insane dictator and thus can not be confined by the labels of society.

Quote:Ah, so because I don't post on these forums on a daily basis like the rest of you, patting myself on the back because I managed to buy low and sell high. Or to provide a service of selling IOs at 1 million each, I'm not worthy...lol
Ok I gotcha, to each his own I suppose. But I'm not like the rest of you, I don't brag about what I've done or haven't done. I made my post earlier to liven the thread up a bit, but my post wasn't just that, it was telling what I am doing. Troll post if you will.
Slow down Francis...try not lumping everyone together no? I dont pat myself on my back at all....need both hands to hold my monies. -
Quote:hey, that's me temporarily in the #1 slot!
*does happy dance*
Dammit Fulmens....now Im gonna have to go burn another billion to keep the goat from dancing. I hate dancing goats. Oh no wait, I dont care about this stuff except to say thats me temporarily in second...
Id do a little "dance with goat" line but that would be RPing and I hate RPing....
But seriously, I dont consider this any sort of accomplishment until we're comfortably ensconced above the top 9. Theres a big jump there and right now we're just kinda snatching at the low hanging fruit. -
I know I crashed Deific Weapons over the weekend.
I logged onto a rather old unplayed alt to get some badges and found I had bought 10 stacks of ten for less than a million per unit and they were trading at 1.2 to 1.5M.....
On a whim I dumped em all on the market for 12 inf each. Watched as the last two stacks sold for 1200 inf. Really, you were wasting a slot for 1200 inf bids on Deific Weapons? Then promptly put in buy bids for 27K each for another 5 stacks (only 3 filled). Before I finished my 5 tip missions the market had stabilizied and I sold off the 3 stacks at a sizable profit.
All told from the 8 stacks I lost about 12 million real inf....I dont know how much in potential inf....but gained the heartfelt thanks of casual players and flippers alike as they can now casually purple their warshades. -
I dropped another billion into the fire....we're up to 18. Looking ahead the slow going is gonna be coming up shortly...

My problem is (and Ive touched on this before) this forum is called Soldiers of Arachnos (or SoA), that appellation includes Arachnos Soldiers and Widows. When you say Arachnos Soldier you speak of the Soldier, when you say SoA you speak of both.
Now that I see people really solely mean Soldier (to include Banes and Crabs) then theres merit in speaking of the value of TT:M. When you say SoA, well that has a different meaning and while I cant find anything more useful to replace TT:M with if someone were to make the case for a widow, I wouldnt find fault with even the simplest explanation.
Of course kicking someone for being a leech or useless is a stance I dont want to encourage or would. Not everyone is a 4 yr veteran....some people just made level 20 and saw the big gold letters (VEAT unlocked or whatever) and made one. I think an explanation would be the better way to go in ALL cases regardless.
Anyhow...thats my stance smelted down from the earlier semantics and verbal sparring....
YMMV
--Frog -
I havent had near the same problem. I play at X8 on my widow so things are usually well bunched. I use it to open the fight and only occassionally after that.....so its not really part of my chain. If you had something else better, sure Id put in something else, but as it kills everything it hits and it reliably hits 3 to 5 for me then heck yeah Id put it in over CJ when Im softcapped.
I dont really use attack chains but I use Follow Up excessively (enough recharge to double stack) with lunge then sprinkle in the AoEs to complete it when neccessary/
Theres no way Id have Aid Self in a build...by the time you need a heal with a Widow, youre usually dead. A green would suffice, but Im 50 so almost always have insp slots with one in it.
--Frog -
1. No Eviscerate? You dont want a crit'ing (when stealthed), 90 degree Arc, Superior Damage power, yet you want AOEs??
2. Unless yer PVPing, might as well go with the non-PVP IO damage procs (ToD is always nice)
3. The two Botz sets you have arent really doing anything (unless youre PVPing....then you need -kb.) Id punt them, put something more useful in (like remove CJ for Eviscerate and remove the slots in SS for Eviscerate....seeing a theme yet?)
4. In all your purple attack sets if you use the Damage IO youre gonna to get hit rather hard by ED. Swap each of those out for the Damage/Recharge one you skipped and watched you DPS go up
--Thats all for now -
Quote:Bolded the part I want to reference....What do you do with all the profits? I know it's nice to see a big number in your Inf column, but what do you do with it?
I don't want to have to marketeer just to buy the IO sets I want for my character. Several times I have not had enough to even buy the common IO recipes, so I don't bother. Doesn't spoil my enjoyment, just makes me wonder why you raise prices just because you can.
Unless you are making donations to the new players so they feel they have a chance in the market?
No one here advocates raising prices. Its not good for profits if nothing else. In fact we do experiments to see if we have any long term impact on the market with our shenanigans. Mostly we can do very little manipulation on a large scale. Sure sometimes I can play around with things to see how they work but theres more profit to be made in less instense fashion just capitalizing on well-documented supply and demand swings.
Why do I gather inf? To make more inf.....if truth be told. You need a large pile of inf to make another large pile of inf on the market (or its easier). Then you buy IOs with that inf. I have several top-end IOed to the gills characters that are terrific to play. Thats what I like to do. You may want to play differently. I applaud that...the fun part about the market is it allows both of us to play the way we want to

Quote:Your reply
You might have been referencing forts and mind link earlier in the thread but you added that 5% unslotted line to my comment about "most people ask for VEATs for the 60 toggles". So if someone is out of context I believe it is you.....
Fair enough....I misunderstood your point, you quoted me out of context. Im big enough to admit the former.... -
Quote:Ah here we go. Lets set the scenario up, just like you did by pointing out end game has tremendous amounts of -def, so that youre correct...course if there was some def on the team to begin with and one or two other sources of +def or Mind Link then wouldnt something else be more valuable? You are correct sir, you do have a situational understanding of the game. It's not a nitpick dude. People like you throw around that 45% number all the time as if it's some magic number that makes everything else irrelevant. Well, it's bogus. Situational understanding of the game applies in Situations. They come up frequently. Your "Really?" is just another way of saying, "Oh, Yea?"
As for your second point: There might be more sources of team defense, but let's look at it sensibly. There aren't that many team defense buffs. Let's assume for a second that there is No Force Field toon on the team. Other team defense options include Steamy Mist and Shadow Fall. There's a few others. None have as wide an area as TT:M. Few if any are as powerful as a Crab or Bane TT:M. And No, except for Mind Link, the SoA has No buff as valuable to the team as TT:M. None.
Quote:Of course I would prefer a smart player with a bad build to a ****** with a good build. But I find playing with my coalition mates allows me to not have to make that choice. I don't PuG, pretty much ever. Specifically so I can avoid people who don't know what they're doing.
So you keep on playing your game where no power is more important than any other, where you're happy to be not merely less than optimal but in fact a drain on team resources. Meanwhile I'll be over here playing with people who understand what the term "key power" means.
My only true opinion is kicking people for their builds is dumb. Politely pointing them in a different direction is a better route to go...
As a side note to no one, I think we can all agree that Masters Runs are off the table. Build for those as selectively as you want. -
Quote:Ive been referencing forts this whole time. Even that line which you took out of context speaks about Mind Link. Go build your strawman elsewhere.5%? try 10% for a crab and its 15.75% defense slotted in a 60' radius. thats huge. Its almost as much as a bubbler or FF Gen and 3 x the radius too. Plus with 2 End IO's its only 0.11/s which is not much more than Combat Jumping and half as much as the Leadership Maneuvers.
-
Quote:A minor point, but I think *most* of the dismay at missing TT:M is with Crab/Bane/Wolf rather than with Widows. i.e. there's not the alternative option of Mind Link and their TT:M is a base 10% unenhanced (for reference, a Super Reflexes toggle is 13.88% unenhanced). That's not to say that Widow TT:M isn't very nice, just that it's the Soldier one that's truly exceptional.
At least in the case of the Soldier version, at the level it's available there's just very little that provides as much of a boost - solo or teamed - as TT:M (which may or may not be a balance issue). Hell, at *any* level there's not much that competes with its effectiveness - certainly not so many equivalent alternatives that you need to sacrifice theme or utility to fit it in.
Also, while it is possible to find yourself on teams with so much existing +def that your TT:M isn't doing much (though the volume of -def out there means there's a fair chance it's doing *something*), unless you always know who you'll be teamed with it's generally a safer bet that +def will be helpful vs the other buffs (team or personal) open to an SoA. Struggling with survivability tends to hurt pickup teams more than struggling with dps (though obviously neither is ideal), and at least in my experience it's more common for a pickup team to be lacking in the former than the latter. And it's not like you can't overkill in every other aspect of a team too, anyway.
YMMV of course but Ive always found that too much team damage (or recharge) makes not enough team defense a non-issue far more often than the converse.
Not going to argue the other points because you showed a sense of moderation and perspective that I agree with. -
Quote:hey, is there a list of the SG badges on the wiki or something? Our super talented designer was pining for a couple of unlocks to complete the control room's mise en scène . Maybe we could have a 'get together' night to chase badges, run a TF or something.
Im available mon-thursday after 830PM ET. Now plan around my schedule.... -
Quote:Really? Being perturbed over being kicked from a team is the same as kicking people who dont have a specific power? I just want to add no one is espousing not taking TT:Manuveurs. Least I havent garnered that.....the counterpoint to this hate fest is that theres more than one way to contribute to the team and if theres a couple other +Def sources (likely) on the team and the SoA in question has other bonuses (like perma-ML which is far more powerful than TT:M.) what the heck does it matter if youre not getting your 5% unslotted def bonus? So your needs to create a theme character is more important than the overall well being of the group? In the CoH I play, most people ask for VEATs for the 60 toggles for the team buffs not their AoE, if I wanted just AoE I would advertize for a blaster or corrupter. Youre being just as much of a I play my way nazi as he is for wanting the key powers from a specific class. ?
Quote:If I advertize for a /Rad its because of EF, RA and LR not because they add a nice tint of green to the team. What happens if we only have one debuffer on the team and we find out the /Rad we chose is playing a theme character with no toggles or LR. We then die 15 times because we cannot make a dent in the GMs regen, how is this fair for the team?
On the other hand, with the advent of I19 opening 3 power slots in most builds people are going to be hard pressed to justify not taking all the Tactical Training Toggles (for the record my Fort has double-manuevers and double assault) but the worst I would do is say "You might want to consider taking it" and I dont even think its noteworthy after that.
