This is a general problem with all defense based power sets. Each point of defense you get, is more effective than the point before it...which means your survivability goes up slowly, then reasonably, then youre standing in a spawn of X8 +0 wondering if you have time to get some coffee before the next time one of them hits you....

Okay maybe not that good....but yes it gets better. Right now youre a def based character with low hit points....death will come often and sudden.....

    Thanks,

First off...its Smashing and Lethal Resistance youre referring to...not meleee resistance.

The answer is really no.....sorry...theres a couple of sets that give a few points of resistance but thats not a great way to go...

But if we rephrase the question to "How do I improve my survivability" then it becomes a little different answer

    Options
    1) Add S/L Defense...Kinetic Combat sets, Weave, Steadfast Res/Def Global etc....
    2) Add more HP. Titanium Coating sets and others, add +hp accolades
    3) Improve Recharge so youre self-heal is up more often....

If I was building anything /elec right now Id go with 2 or 3 as opposed to 1 but thats just me. Also, I havent built or played my 50 /Elec Brute in sometime so I could be mistaken

You can find a character planning tool called Mids here where you can play around with putting sets in or

    http://www.badge-hunter.com/index.ph...dge_bytype.php

You can find out which accolades give +hp and how to get them

  3. I love softcapping...huge fan....

On my widow I have two "I win" powers. I define that as powers when I hit them in a middle of a X8 mob make the fight officially over, save for a few minutes of chasing down the odds and ends....those two powers are Psychic Wail and Aura of Confusion. You dont have Aura of Confusion and while you dont need it, you can cheaply put in the confuse purple set in and have that going for you....

Dominate should not be treated as a hold....cant stress that enough, frankenslot or put in 6 pieces of thunderstrike (the cheapest ranged def there is).

Remove the slots from MP...you say youre softcapping for when that gets suppressed...so why do you have slots in it?

In spin and psychic wail you have 3 pieces of Eradication for 1.5% ranged. Well if you put in a set of thunderstrikes somewhere else you could probably put in 5 pieces of Sciroccos for the AoE defense and achieve very similar Acc/Dam/End and recharge numbers for approximately the same price

Mind Link? Where is it....? Seriously go back and find a way, its a terrific team buff and will save you from the occassional Cascading Defense Failure.
  4. Me personally....Im waiting for the DOOOOOOOOOooooooOOOOOMMMM squad to tell us why this is horrible...cmon people get in front of this so you can claim "I told you so".....

Much happiness in this particular lilypad....

I for one think most complaints fall under "just get used to it and itll be fine" but being that disingenuous is not the way to get ones point across.

Oh and make the market interface keyboard-manipulatable....k? Theres a point to "Tab" that does not involve a poor tasting soda

There are far more legitimate complaints about the interface in this thread...you just cherry picked the nonsensical ones.....good job

Yup yup...I have multiple characters with billions....not quadrillions like some of these yahoos....I start a project and merely log on one alt at a time with my shopping list....place a couple of bids each and then go play the new idea. I log on the next week with my alts, craft and mail to my global (formerly limited to SG base enhancement dumps) and get back to playing. Its the easiest way I can think of to IO out a character. The new character will buy or merit-buy any IOs I missed along the way.

Theres a reason they take the median times to determine merits....For every sub 60 min ITF theres a host that took 2 or 3 hours to complete. If I dont know the group Im playing with I like to bring my Fortunata on, she makes every group significantly better just by showing up.

However good for you for sticking with the group. Too many times people quit in disgust over things like this. I actually enjoy when I get on a group that hasn't done, or hasnt succeeded a particular tf. Theres no "rush rush rush" around, people read the mission goals and things move along.

  10. A friend and I played a Widow and Crab to 50....I concentrated on the controls and lockdowns and he concentrated on the AOE and damage...it was loads of fun. Of course taking the Damage and Defense team buffs that come with the two is vital for any kind of team.

We used those two as the core of 8 man teams. With our team buffs we could really just invite 6 others of any stripe and be successful. We made a lot of friends on our way to 50, played the content we wanted to and moved very quickly through the levels. New team members were consistent in their comments of how well the team moved.

The second part Ill leave to science.

I don't accept one side is as nebulous as the other. One side might be fine with it but the objecting side are posting very specific complaints about this thing. You mention an improvement to the UI (entirely manipulatable with the keyboard). People here are mentioning problems with the new UI. That's not the same as like/dislike.

Dont mistake me...Im not a fan of the market, Ive adapted but Im not a supporter.

Paraphrasing your statement, if 30 people dislike and 2 people like then clearly the market is a big ball of poo is just not logical. The people that like it arent going to post to tell you so...its human nature. Im neither arguing against you or agreeing with you...

This makes me think of the old news channel polls run on ABC in California where people would call in about a topic and there would always be 2% Undecided no matter what the discussion was. Somewhere someone felt their undecided opinion was so important they had to call in and let the pollster know.

Frankly I am not sure some of the differences of opinions can be solved but some of the non-optional options (like autofilling the price) are beyond stupid.

But people dont post to say "Everything is fine, nothing to see here.".....so one sides position is just as nebulous on that ground as the first. Personally Ive adjusted to the interface. But I would love for it to be entirely manipulatable with the keyboard....is that too much to ask?

    Critique please?

I dont know where to begin....

This build is bad. Its expensive and lacks focus. Im not knocking you personally...just the build is bad. With shield defense (imo) you want to get to 45% positional defense, then increase your global recharge, then maybe look at your total HP....Regardless focus is important

Instead of critiquing Im going to point you to the search function and this little thread where Tonality lays out two very nice builds (one of which was reasonably cheap).

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...lectric+shield

But feel free to search for more, Electric shield is a very common combo

  15. Oh man, nothing I have is done.

Every once in a while Ill pull a 50 off the shelf and realize where I went wrong and start changing his build, or buying IOs, or selling stuff on the market. Then after a while the love affair will fade and Ill move on to the next project.

It is interesting seeing how builds and bios have gotten more and more sophisticated over the years and how Ive changed in what I perceive to be a solid build. Its like a timeline of character decisions....
  16. Why the drama over rep....?

My finding is people randomly and inexiplicably post positive and neg rep on things with little basis in content...

One post I made saying "Thats a valid point, I stand corrected" Got the neg rep "harsh".....blink blink...

I people put positive rep, Im happy...if people put negative rep, Im happy...I dont see what the issue is.
  17. Absolutely did not happen to me...Ive run two VEATs on Ninja Run to 27 and now 38 (one Fort, one crab) and havent hit a snag like that
  18. I suspect the new interface is keeping people away. Prices redside of the stuff I frequent seem to be steadily going down (Respec recipes 77M?!1?) while they sit on the market for even longer.

Increase in supply from more people playing redside due to the new MM set, followed by a decrease in people buying because they arent comfortable with the interface. Thats my hypothesis at least...

Im dealing with the UI relatively well. I really enjoy the insta salvage feature but dislike the tabs in general.

I would like more recharge to run the gloom, ci, jacob, charged attack chain, but atm it looks like every other attack is going to need to be charged because of CI's long recharge time...

    Thanks for the help
While I try to add stuff to these build threads I am never one to change peoples builds...this one seems to be well-thought out.

I dont like 6 slot build up, such a waste. But I dont see anyway to get back the Def you lose without changing things so Im not going to offer advice there....keep that in mind if you ever get enough for the Gladiator Unique I guess.

Find a way to add the Force Feedback +Rech proc to Thunderstrike. That +Regen in health is superfluous in my opinion....youll be happy with the tradeoff.

If this is your first farming build, good job...you avoided a lot of the usual pitfalls.

I dont know about more bang for the buck...

If youre advertising in comic books, the idea would be to attract the average comic book reader into something theyve surely heard of before....you dont do that by spreading knowledge, you do that by making it more accessible coupled with spreading knowledge. I would think a free trial or two thrown into a couple of select titles would be the way to go. My titles of choice would be the iconic ones that mirror Statesman in the function.

I wouldnt do the same with computer (software, mmo, games et al) magazines because those readers should be the plus side of the computer information threshhold that would allow them to get free trials themselves.

Stay away from large scale advertising. Youre seeking a certain demographic, and a billboard on the side of the highway isnt going to have a lot of success...

    Anyhow, welcome

You have people that don't do anything but sit in WW flipping recipes or buying stuff up just to inflate the market. This section of the forums is mainly just to beat people down that don't want to participate in their way of thinking. If you want to post in here and not get flamed, just post a pic of the billions you've made or ask them how to make uber inf so they can say, "find a niche" or "learn to flip" and make them feel special. lol.

Or you could just use the market intelligently, selling for what people are willing to pay, buying crafted IOs from Badgers trying to clear slots, and most importantly, being patient in everything you do with the market instead of piloting a keyboard through endless hours of multiple accounts farming....

    Your call really

If one of those recipes sells for 150-300mil, you should be able to get perhaps 1/2 that or better rolling merits instead of hoarding them. People are in it for the mad cash. If the only way to make the mad cash is to hoard, marketeer, or buy it, those are the ways people will do it. The merit and AE ideas were both good ideas, but failed to address shortage caused by marketeers. It is a simplistic matter to weight cost of IO rolls from merits or tickets by tying it to the markets, or active population of either red or blue side. Right now, merits are simply not good enough to do anything with than hoard for big ticket items. Make that a non-truth, and you will see supply in each market stabalize at an equilibrium point. When merits were introduced, they were introduced arbitrarily, with the assumption being "this risk meets this reward", without concious consideration of what that reward might be. That should probably be rethought, as it is obvious that merit and ticket rewards are far from linear in progression.
Bolded the part I want to address, but I dont want to be accused of taking things out of context.

Marketeers cause shortages of Pool C Recipes? Really? Id love to hear the reasoning on that one. Sure they drive prices up (forget supply shortages and increases in expendable funds) and maybe they cause shortages in common salvage that causes things like Alchemical Silver to go for 100k (forget how many recipes its used in) but now they cause shortages in expensive recipes too....?

Dammit which of you marketeers bought all the level 35 Obliteration Quads and deleted them all....?
