  1. I don't really care that people can have the epics at 20, I just found if very odd when "Epic Archtype Unlocked" flashed on my screen when I dinged 20 on a new toon.

One thing I'll say though is that people are very lucky nowadays to have the VEATS. Imagine my dissapointment when I finally struggeled and got my very first toon, a brute, up to 50 after a long and debt filled climb to the top and to see those words flash on the screen: "Epic Archtype Unlocked" only to find myself still unable to play a PB or WS and people acting like I was stupid for asking why.

I'm all for anything that makes things more interesting for newer players. 20 does seem a bit premature for me, but whatever, I don't play any epics anyway. Let someone else play them sooner.
  2. I go with whatever theme I have for my character nowadays. My first blaster that I got that high was a fire/energy blapper and I chose force mastery so I could hit inferno, pop a blue, and then use the force field to survive. I used to constantly die after hitting Inferno, and now I've just respeced out of it altogether. I'm currently leveling a Dual Pistols guy and I'm planning on munitions because it's the best fit, and because I've never tried it before.
  3. I have my DP blaster to lvl 38 now, and I only use Fire and Lethal ammo. When on teams and soloing respectively. I noticed the extra ticks from the fire ammo, but not all the time. I just use it because people usually hate KB and I don't want to be "that guy" with all the knockback attacks that everyone hates.

    Nuke My Survey!

I take them unless they are the player based kind that zapps all your end. I used to love running into mobs and taking out 99% of them with my fire blaster, but I died a lot. I ended up respecing out of Inferno. I still use the PBAoE with Dual Pistols, but at least I can dive back out of the mob and keep fighting. With Electric Blast, I use the nuke, but that's because I can do it from a safe distance, and then hit powersince, since I went elec/elec to recover all the end.

That does look awesome. That blaster is killing everything!
  6. I agree that it's too much to ask for to change the entire AT, but I think that it would be nice to be able to select different powersets. I got my first toon ever, a ss/inv brute, to 50 and found that I didn't really like Inv. It would have been great to have been able to change him over to ss/wp instead of making and leveling a whole new toon.
  7. I suggest going with a Scrapper as your first character. You have all the fun of killing stuff as you do with a Brute, but without any expectations to lead the charge into enemy mobs and take the brunt of the enemy attacks when you do play on teams. The Brute is the Villian "Tank" and is expected to act in that capacity. So, go with a Scrapper; all the fun and very durable, but none of the responsibliity.

Do you know why when roleplaying you rarely see someone with a shield throw it? Even in a superhero game? Because it's a really dumb idea. You've got this object you carry with you as a form of defense. To help distribute the weight you hold onto a hand grip, with one or more straps ALSO holding it onto your arm. Especially true if it's not a buckler. Your using it to fend off attacks. In a superhero game your also using it as portable cover from that guy with an uzi and his friends. Would you throw said portable cover?

No, you wouldn't. Even if the shield is perfectly round, it's not balanced for throwing. It's not something you can just toss whenever you want either. Plus the second you throw your shield, it Is Not There. You don't have it for defense while it's flying through the air. That gunfire you were using it to avoid? It's now got nothing between you and it. Hope your really freaking good at dodging bullets. Plus Captain America aside, shields are not a yo-yo. It's not going to return to you. Your going to have to go retrieve your shield. And if you can stop bullets with this shield, you'd better believe your enemies will try to grab it the moment you throw away your 'weapon'.

You know, I find it funny how Captain America's shield is always shown from the front. It never shows how he carries it. Except when it's slung across his back. Then you can see the two straps which would hold it in place on his arm. But that's beside the point. Spartus: Blood in the Sand points out another very important fact in episode 2. Throwing away your WEAPON is a stupid idea to begin with. In the first episode you see Spartus constantly throwing his sword in battle, and then having to grab a new one, or retrieve his sword. Then in ep 2 he gets the fact it's a horrible idea literally pounded into him.
Cap's shield comes right back after he throws it, so I could live with a second lapse in defense. That's what comes to mind when I mention throwing the shield.

It may be stupid, but I don't see it being any more stupid than many of the other powersets that we have in the game. There are several weapons based sets where you hit people with whatever it is several different ways, so yeah, I'd love to roll a Shield Offense/Shield Defense brute or scrapper one day.

They had to do Shield Charge the way they did because of animation and character model limitations. I can imagine it would be a nightmare to try and make an attack where you throw part of your character model, especially since that part is directly connected to your defense toggles.

Most people forget that they modified every animation in every powerset usable with shields to account for the shield's presence. It actually creates an entirely different combat stance. Energy Punch with a shield is NOT the same animation as Energy Punch without it. It is similar, but it brings up an entirely different file directory. It's the same reason using a heal, or a Fighting Pool power causes redraw. Because those powers are not part of that combat stance.

Throwing your shield would effectively cause you to bounce between two different combat stances within the same powerset, which I don't think they can do.
They did it in those Marvel vs. Capcom games. Cap threw his shield. So there!
  10. I did this combo as soon as radiation became available for blasters. In the early levels I was very impressed, but now in the 20's, I have to make myself play the guy. Reading this thread makes me want to give him another chance though.

And there's really not much point making a shield offense set if it's not gonna have a shield throw.
I know that there are others, but Hurl from Superstrength is what immediatly comes to mind as a ranged attack for tanks and brutes.
  12. I teamed with a lvl 50 elec/elec stalker today. He was awesome killing everything in sight. Now I must level my electric stalker.
  13. I hate it when I make a team, usually of people who are broadcasting 'lvl _ _ lft", and then getting grief for not finding a healer. "Go f_cking solo then!"
  14. I've gotten an elec/elec scrapper to 50, and am currently leveling an elec/elec brute. I love taking some damage from a mob, and taunting/damaging the mob with Lightning Field, and then hitting them with Lightning Rod. Mega damage. I can see why there are so many elec/shield brutes running around. I've made, but havn't played much with an elec/elec stalker. I'd have to say that electric melee is my favorite offensive melee set right behind super strength. Fun stuff. I'd say that you would probably like it with any AT, exept for tank. I like actually killing stuff, so tanking's not for me.

This sounds like an awesome alternative. Thanks.

But the fact is at the end of the day you have a big heavy peice of metal (Wood/Bone/Tech/Whatever) on your arm, you may as well hit people with it.
That's my thinking on it as well. If I were hauling a shield around, I'd hit people with it. Also: I'll admit I was thinking of Captain America flinging his shield at bad guys. I guess Hurl, in super strength, could feature the shield being thrown instead or something. Melee guys do have long distance attacks...

    Shield Offense

Will we ever get an offensive powerset for the shield? I have to use Brawl to see my SD brute smack people with the shield. I'd love to see several shield based attacks since it's already being lugged around by SD toons. Plus: how awesome would it be to have Shield Throw for ranged attaks?

    The BEST Brute

I'm having a lot of fun with my SS/SD brute. I know.....but it's a concept character. Anyway, full fury + the SD damage bonus + Knockout blow = awesome. I can't wait until lvl 32 and Foot Stomp to really take advantage. Also, he can take lot's of damage and I think that Active Defense is a cool option rather than having a couple of toggles running. Plus I'll have Shield Charge! Fun!

I forgot about that. It's very satisfying to see that in a kind of "Yeah, I killed that guy!" sort of way when I'm the only Corr on a team.
  19. I liked the old Defiance when your damage scaled up as your health went down. It was bad *** to obilterate the enemy and just survive by the skin of my teeth.

Scourge is awesome. I love when those big numbers pop up to totally overkill the enemy.

I vote for Scourge against the new Defiance.
  20. After seeing the awesomeness of the whip attacks that come with Demon Summoning, it made me look back on the other sets and think that it would be great if all of them had four attacks instead of one, in my opinion, totally skipable power. Another archery based attack for Ninjas like Flame Arrow, or even swap the set to having a Katana to match up more with the Ninja would be better than Smoke Bomb. Another Assault Rifle power could replace Serum and so on. I'm sure that there are others that I'm not thinking about because I haven't had coffe yet.

I'm up to lvl 34 with that combo. I just took it for Build Up and Power Sink, or whatever the end drain is on that set. I guess I could have gone with MM for Drian Psych but Electric came to mind when I was making the guy. Mine is all gun, meaning that I'm not using any of the melee attaks with electric. Too much redraw time for me with DP, but even with the super long animations, it's lots of fun.
  22. Sounds like I need to add Artic Air to my ice/ice dom. I skipped it but now I regret it after reading how useful it is for an opening attack.
  23. I've had electric fever since they made elec melee and elec armor available for scrappers. I've leveled a scrapper and blaster to 50 and I even came back and am currently leveling a brute; all with elec/elec. Can't wait to try out an elec/elec Dom. I'm currently playing with my first ever and I went with ice/ice. Pretty fun stuff.

    top sg's

One of my toons was in Omega Force for awhile after I asked to be invited when I saw a member. I just wanted a base with all the teleports. The guy that invited me explained that the SG was pretty dead except for a couple of people.

I have toons that are coalitioned with Damage Inc. and Dark Kingdom. Those are active.

    No info on the others.
