Oh and if the OP isn't in a rush, it might be a good idea to wait for the next sale on VIP Starter Kits.
$2 bucks is a hell of a lot more palatable price if the only concern is being able to invite alts to SG's on the main account. -
My only issue with the nitpicking is that the expert is using a cartoon as an example of perfect form. (Sorry animated character)
The actress playing the role of the animated character probably never touched a bow and arrow in her life.
Even if the animated film used an archery expert to get the form correct before using computer wizardry to animate the character, that's like comparing the forms of a beginner martial artist to a kung fu master. What the beginner's making mistakes? I never would have guessed. -
Quote:Wasn't trying to imply you were promoting single player bases explicitly. Just trying to explain which portion of the player base will have trouble with rent issues.I didn't mean to infer that I was promoting single-player bases explicitly, but such limitations do affect groups as well. I mean, what happens if a group decide that they need to go preem for a while (IE: bills>game)...
NM, OP was talking about solo base and we're O/T.
Also reiterating that it isn't the players that support the devs decision. We're just stuck with it until they change their minds or give us a way to create personal lairs.
If an entire group goes preem they'll have to invite a VIP to pay rent, but a group really shouldn't have a problem getting at least 1 VIP to join. Preems most likely will have access to global channels and such so will be able to draw from that community for assistance and membership. -
That's another part of the logic behind the devs decision to castrate salvage storage. It forces players to either dump the extra salvage or craft the recipes to make room for more salvage because there's a lot more enhancement storage capacity than salvage storage now.
-
Probably not. I'd only consider buying it if it included brand new Power Pool's that would help me round out character concepts.
-
Quote:Nope. One can have a decently functional base without ever buying an item that incurs rent. The primary point was that a decently functional base gets locked out after 6wks right?
Only people that don't want to subscribe but want personal storage bases have a problem getting locked out after 6 weeks.
And the devs have made their position quite clear to us even tho we don't like it, that solo SG's/bases go against the intended design created by the devs and they will not do anything to make it easier to create and operate them. They were designed to be used by groups of players. -
Quote:And that's just using standard desks. I've seen people use even smaller items. (like the little coffee table or the small triangular tables) to make floors.Quick maths:
The current large floor tile covers one "section" of a room.
It takes 64 desks to cover the same area.
There are 4 sections in a small 2x2 room.
If one wanted a complete second floor, that would be 256 desks (minus a few for access).
Seriously... 256 desks, or 4 floor tiles... for one room.
Double, if you want 2 floors in a room.
Here's another one:
It takes 48 wall cabinets or 64 desks to fully cover one wall section (1/4 of small room).
It takes 6 pointillist pictures to cover the same area.
Even if they copied/reskinned (all 6 sides) the floor tiles and pictures to give us 3 or 4 options of each, that's only 6-8 "new" pieces being put into the editor... vs. the thousands of little items being used in entire bases right now.

Quote:I was actually looking for a pic of this 14 year old performer I saw on a talent show but that was all I could find last night.3) That tall white building behind her is the Burj Al Arab so we know this happened in Dubai, for whatever that's worth.
Here's the vid clip of the girl I was thinking of. And she's that way shooting blindfolded.

If this woman can hit her targets without using "perfect archery form" the author was nitpicking about
Then Hawkeye can shoot any way he likes. -
Quote:/Impish KatLet's keep it simple.
I can think of something that would allow builders to use fewer items to accomplish some of the more common things a lot of builders do: large floor tiles and wall panels.
.
I've been suggesting this for years. Take the large white floor tile next to the safe and reskin it with a few tops and bottoms that match the base floors and ceilings.
That alone would eliminate the need to place hundreds if not thousands of items to make floors for extra levels in rooms. -
Quote:Furthermore you only need worktables when you are actually crafting items for the base. You can sell the worktables back and not incur any rent for them.Invention table doesn't incur rent. Porters don't incur rent. Storage pieces, worktables, empowerment stations, rez ring stuff (but not the rez ring itself).
And for those that don't want to click on the link provided earlier by another poster, these are the 10 items that incur a rental fee.
- Storage Items (per bin)
- Auto-Doc / Tree of Wonders
- Combat Logs / Contemplation Charts
- Robo-Surgery / Spirit Signal
- Advanced Worktable / Advanced Forge
- Expert Worktable / Expert Forge
- Robotic Fabricator / Flames of Hephaestus
- Radiation Emulator / Enchanting Crucible
- Linear Accelerator / Arcane Crucible
- Supercollider / Mystic Crucible

Quote:I'll agree that the archery instructor has a valid point about form when he can show the characters in the movies he's complimenting demonstrate they can maintain perfect form when they are also trying to shoot while falling backwards out of a window. Also, all we've really seen so far is the one shot of him looking like he's about to fire while falling backwards out of a window. Sometimes you just gotta shoot from the hip.
Competition shooting on a range is a lot different than what Hawkeye was doing. -

Quote:"Charge" was probably the wrong term for me to use.I speak not only from my observations of other kins, but my own experiences playing them in the way I find most enjoyable. I have two, one controller and one defender. I'm not suggesting "charging into melee," but with a set like Kinetics where you are frequently close to melee even if not in it, or a set like Time where you're often perfectly safe in melee, an Assault set would not be a bad thing at all. It works for Dominators, and they're squishy too when enemies aren't neutralized.
-
All ranged attacks can hit things that are in melee with the target. Kinetics are supposed to use Fulcrum Shift, Transference, and Transfusion to stay out of melee themselves while staying close enough to allies for them to receive the benefits of the buffs. Sure Kins can charge into melee but they'll die a lot more frequently.
-
Uhm, Kinetics is melee oriented? Every power is ranged except for Inertial Reduction which is a poor mans Super Jump buff, and Repel which pushes opponents OUT of melee range so they can't attack you in melee.
Time Manipulation has 4 PBAoE's three of which (Temporal Mending, Farsight, & Chronoshift) are team buffs/heals, and one (Time's Juncture) is a debuff that does no damage.
Neither of those power sets are remotely melee oriented.
Now sure I have a lot of character concepts that would work better if I could ignore the Archetype restrictions and mix melee and ranged sets but I don't know if the devs will ever be willing to screw up the game balance to do it.
Edit: Far more likely to add a few more Power Pools that flesh out melee and ranged concepts, and easier to balance. -

Quote:If the devs give Praetorians the ability to form SG's before level 20, then Preatorian characters will lose the ability to give the first SG they join 100,000 prestige.Yes, and Cape/Aura missions. But there are a lot of other things that Praetoria still needs as well. SG's for example!
The only reason they have that ability is because they can't join SG's before level 20. -

Quote:/DEVil's advocate
Oh, but WOULD you? Surely, you would think to yourself, "Hey look, now I can have even moar salvage stashed away!". And like a little squirrel, you would instead be tempted to make even more bases *just* for the the storage.
/end DA
.
It didn't stop me from making bases, and I had one base with over 16,000 pieces of salvage back before I13. -
After they went to the trouble of changing the code of the Salvage bins from "2500" to "30" back in Issue 13? Not likely we'll ever see that change after 4 years.

Quote:Just to play devil's advocate hereWhich is worth 80 points, a pitying glance, and a shake of the head.
The inf buffs on the market only last an hour, then you have to buy another. So if you are someone that uses those buffs a lot it won't be long before you've exceeded the price of the leprechaun.
Personally I'd think it'd be a better deal if the little bugger acted as extra storage/Inf bank.
