Quote:Sorry Charlie,So this datamining of player IO storage levels the devs supposedly did IN ADVANCE (per your post)
IO salvage was added to the game on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 when Issue 9 went live. The devs didn't change the salvage bin storage capacity until Tuesday, December 2, 2008 when Issue 13 went live.
The datamining they did was based on the information acquired from player activities between Issues 9 and 13.
So as much as you'd like to spin doctor what I said so you can dismiss it, the fact remains the devs based their decision upon information that was readily available to them.
None of us like the devs decision, and we all hope they one day change their minds. -
Quote:Actually depending on which state you live in the taxes vary, but in a state that doesn't charge state tax you'd be looking atWell lump sum is only $341 million and you will lose around half of that to taxes. Otherwise it's 26 payments of roughly $18 million a year before taxes.
Annuity:
Your net per year: $13,730,769
After 26 payments: $356,999,994
Or a lump sum:
Your net payout: $255,750,000

Quote:I think we all wish that but as was explained by one of the devs in the same thread as the one about the animations each toggle has to be done separately and with each new power set (and each new travel power) that gets added they'd have to go back and add the new toggles so the work takes longer and longer which in turn causes releases to get pushed further and further back.Wish the buyables would suppress powers (toggles) rather than turn them off.
It's just easier and faster to have the powers turned off. -
I support this idea but I also want to be able to wear the Boxer Shorts with the monstrous legs. They end above the knees so there shouldn't be any clipping issues.
-
I'd prefer both but if I was forced to choose I'd vote for new power sets.

Quote:Didn't take long for that to show up, did it. "Other people paying to have fun with something specific devalues my paying to have fun with access to almost everything! How dare other people want to give money to have fun!"
You can almost count on it as a response to everything. Some people are *so* insecure about their precious "VIP status." Kind of like people being insecure about posting their builds because other people can "steal" them - oh, yeah, and they can buy the IOs they "worked so hard" to get in game to fill out the build. Guess what. It doesn't hurt you *one bit.* In fact, it would help you, because there's more money coming into your favorite game to get stuff done and keep it alive.
What an *awful* thing to have happen!
See what I mean? Some people just love portraying VIP's as the bad guys. -
-
Quote:The devs explained that the amount of work the animations require is the reason the they decided the new travel powers turn off everything else. And each new power set that gets added to the game just increases the animation workload thus making it take longer and longer to release them.Reminds me a bit of some other MMO game...
I don't disagree with this suggestion, though. I always thought that the flight powers in this game could use different animations to let you do things like ride boulders or force fields. Though doing that might take a lot of animation time to make animations for all of the different positions.
Though they could just be similar to a lot of the buyable travel powers that null all other powers while active. Kind of takes away from the "cool" factor though.
So the buyable travel powers will most likely be what we get from now on. -

Quote:Oh I thought the logic chain was All VIP's are evil elitist snobs that wouldn't stoop to help a Prem pay rent unless he was out to steal his stuff out from under him!Oh yeah, forgot about that detail- still, not a big hurdle for anyone who can type "hey, can someone help me start a SG base?"
Even the new, improved kinder & gentler me has little patience for a logic chain that starts with we must help those who are too petrified of human contact to ask for help in a help-rich environment!

Quote:You needed two accounts to do it if you wanted to invite your own alts into the SG's. Either two of your own accounts or you and another player.Unless they changed things pretty drastically I was able to get solo bases up and running for both factions without much trouble....converting inf to prestige, even with the hilarious exchange rate, is the path to success.
I am mildly annoyed that as a 'freebie' I can't pay the rent on my existing bases....but I've already had several VIP's offer to help me out if I don't end up re-subbing.
Over they years, I've found the game presents very few obstacles that asking around for help can't conquer...
And for the record I have done the solo SG/Base myself more than once. I just pretty much completed a solo base on Justice using the very techniques you describe.
Now while you and I may not be bothered by the hurdles we have to go thru, other people are more sensitive about it, and/or they don't like asking for help.
Back to the devs opinion on solo SG's. I recall the devs response to a recent request for offline/email SG invites where the devs flat out told us that if they were to add such a feature to the game they would deliberately code it so we couldn't send invites to characters on the same account. -
Quote:I think that depends on how he interprets what a pacifist is. I knew some people in the military that wouldn't shoot a gun if their lives depended on it. They chose to go into jobs like medical, dental, and religion. So I can't honestly say that I see a conflict of interest.I had one the same last week running a DfB
"Forgive me for not attacking. I'm a pacifist ((that is I am roleplaying one))"
Said as he's standing there helping my Fire/Dark domi who is blasting things with toxic smog and setting them on fire. I really was tempted to ask him, in character, if he felt that was appropriate for a self-declared pacifist.
I have a SJ/WP Tank that's a combat medic. He's loaded up with temp power heals/rez allys, team Inspirations, and the Medicine pool. The Leadership pool is his selfless courage that inspires his teammates. Sure he gets into fist fights but that's about it. -
Quote:And I do appreciate that you and the other poster took the time to give me more accurate information. I was only trying to explain that I chose to word my post the way I did because I wasn't certain we would be getting staffs this week. And to be honest if I were to quantify my disappointment, I'd say most of it is based on the fact that while we didn't get staffs, there wasn't anything new for VIP's to consider purchasing. Heck, I'd have been pleased to see something I didn't want as long as it was something new.And so, I made an attempt to provide you with more accurate information. You were under an impression, now you know.
I'm a little disappointed too, but not enough to really get upset. Last week we got something pretty major, this week we got the WWD finale, so I can see where someone could look at that and say, "yeah, that's plenty for one week." Sure, I'd like to get more, but who wouldn't?
Honestly, what's most disappointing to me this week is that with it being the end of March, I now have no idea what to expect next Tuesday. Staff Fighting? A new costume set? A set that exists in-game already being offered for sale? A horrendously-overpriced vanity pet? I guess I could play on Beta more and have a better idea, but man, it was nice to just have it spelled out ahead of time last month.
I've chosen to view Tuesdays as a mini Christmas with each new addition to the store as gifts I eagerly wait to see how they are going to try to get my money that week. Some I salivate over as my new gotta haves while others I laugh at because I wouldn't buy them if my life depended on it. -
Quote:Just the opposite, in fact. We were all kind of assuming it was mere weeks away, then her "letter" hit the forums with a complete release schedule for March (which turned out to be 100% accurate) and no mention of Staff Fighting whatsoever.
Come to think of it, the only time since that letter appeared that I remember seeing any Paragon staffers so much as mention the set or acknowledge (never mind answer) a single question was on the most recent Freedom Friday topic on Facebook, and that was just to tell people not to bother asking about it. It's like they're under orders not to talk about it. I haven't been following uStream very closely, though -- maybe it's been brought up there?
And that is why I used the terms "impression" and "implied" as opposed to saying, "I was certain that she said...". I wasn't following the issue closely and what I heard was second, third, or fourth hand.
And I'm still disappointed there wasn't anything new to buy added to the market for VIP's this week. Free stuff doesn't count, and the sales are just trying to sell old stuff. -
Regardless of what our personal opinions are about the OP's suggestion the devs have gone on record several times that they will not in any way do anything to make it easier for players to create solo SG/Bases. The devs are adamant that SG's/bases and everything in them are multi-player oriented content and will remain so.

Quote:I don't recall ever hearing this blamed on a particular dev. What I heard was that someone asked Zwill about it, and Posi responded that certain people would have to stop working for the company before the issue of Power Slide being re-released could ever be brought up.Despite the fact that virtually everything else in the game that used to be "exclusive" is now available via other means the Prestige Power Slide will likely remain exclusive for the time being. According to rumor there is a particular Dev who thinks that the power should remain exclusive forever. Why it needs to stay that way when virtually nothing else has I have no idea. As long as that particular Dev stands in the way it's apparently never going to be released.
I have the power and use it once in a while on a lark. From my point of view it wouldn't upset me in the least if the Devs decided to start selling it in the Paragon Market so that other people could enjoy it. *shrugs*
Now having worked for a few corporations in my time that sounds suspiciously like the type of responses lower level employees get stuck with when people higher up in management makes a "policy" decision and has the pull to keep their name out of circulation even tho the people forced to give the answer know exactly who are responsible.
Oh and I'm all for giving people power slide. -

Quote:As others have said welcome back. Hope you're using your old account so you qualify as a Premium if you spent any money on the game before we went F2p.just found out this game is free now and also noticed theres a bucket load of new stuff since i last played! exited muchly.
did anyone give that other game a go? i found it hugely disappointing. No mmorpg has ever compared to this game in my eyes.
If only this updated didnt take so longgggggggg
Yep tried CO and I was just as disappointed as you were.
Hope you like what you see.
Uhm Oh, if you had an SG with storage you should know that you need a VIP as a member to pay base rent. It's one of the account restrictions to encourage people using solo SG's to subscribe. -
Quote:We know for a fact they aren't because RMT spam became nearly nonexistent after the devs implemented the account restrictions2) You don't think they're willing to throw $5 at an account to get rid of the worst restrictions and lighten the others so they can make more money?
back in I12. And if they were spending money after Freedom launched we'd be flooded with them spamming Tells and Emails but they aren't. We only see them using Local and /help.
Quote:I've seen them in other games, subscription only, where they pay the subscription to advertise.
Quote:Hell, they used to pay the subscription here to farm up the stuff to sell.
Quote:They still need invention licenses and market licenses.
Quote:They're spending money to make money.
Quote:The restrictions do nothing, especially since they only restrict "those who have in game mail access". Once they reach that point, you have failed to stop them.
Quote:3) You don't think they also use hacked/stolen accounts, especially form their paying customers who have handed over their passwords for power leveling services?
Quote:So, shall we limit the honest people
Quote:while the dishonest keep going on as usual
Quote:I vote for the latter.
Quote:In the interest of protecting our existing Community which has always been so loyal, we've chosen to err on the side of curtailing the free players ability to grief.
As we've stated, the cornerstone of CoH has always been, and will continue to be, our veteran Community. -
-
I'm not disagreeing with you luv, just explaining the philosophy they have concerning bases, and how the way we want to use them doesn't mesh with the way they want them to be used.
-
Which is exactly what they've been telling us since Issue 9 when they explained why they don't allow us to store recipes in bases. Forcing us to craft items or sell them on the market has never been a secret.
-
Quote:Given the chance players hoard as much as possible. We are willing to jump thru hoops to increase our hoarding potential by creating multiple accounts in order to create solo storage bases for salvage. The devs can see how many solo SG's have been made, how many bins are in them, how much stuff is in each bin, and probably how long the stuff has been in the bins.I guess... if you mean that datamining of the now defunct base salvage hoarding led to the current restrictions on invention salvage in a base. That's really not the same thing as the kind of analysis you imply (of IO crafting/market action etc.). IO salvage levels started out lousy and never changed.
So yes it is the same thing. -
Quote:You do realize that those RMTers sell everything right? Inf, Salvage, Enhancements, Recipes, all of it. They also steal from SG's they can manage to get invited into and access to storage bins. How did it stop spam?
They can still send limitless text-only emails, except they get flagged as a spammer.
Quote:We're talking about the item transferring, which spammers have a way around by using physical trade and the unlimited INF cap for a single email.
The F2P accounts have an inf cap of 25 million, and they can't send emails.
Premium Accounts don't get an increase to their inf cap until they've acquired 2 reward tokens. Then it goes up to 500 million.
5 reward tokens raises the inf cap for Premiums to 1 billion.
And finally 8 reward tokens raises the cap to 2 billion.
That's a financial investment that RMTer's and spammers are unwilling to make on accounts that are going to be banned as soon as they are caught.
Quote:I don't see how this system even attempted to address the issue of spammers, let alone how it is "good" for any reason.
