Quote:What happens in comics is confusing enough without bringing the actual mythology they're bending and twisting to suit their needs.Marlel got it right. In all the norse mythology stuff I can find, Loki's parents (father Fárbauti and mother Laufey) are frost giants, and that makes Loki properly a frost giant. On the other hand what I can find states that Loki is the foster-brother of Odin, not Thor. But then a lot of the Aesir had children with the jotun of various types and those children were often Aesir themselves. Loki however, only seemed to father monsters (and Hel herself). And Loki also gave birth to Sleipnir, Odin's eight legged horse.

Quote:In my experience comments like this get made by people who are unhappy with this games unique naming policy and are jealous they didn't get a name they wanted first.Generally, I find the people that complain about names and costumes, have pretty crappy ones themselves.
Of course you may very well be one of the few exceptions to what I just described. -

Marvel didn't write the Copyright/Trademark laws so you can't blame them because the damn things force people/companies to file these stupid <bleep> lawsuits.

I'll agree with this statement. I believe Cryptic is very embarrassed that this 8 year old game they created which they couldn't wait to sell off with it's 8 year old content has blown their NEWER Super Hero game with all it's bells and whistles right out of the water.

Quote:To that list I'd like to add the following that I've seen made or made myself for the Halloween look alike parties I've attended over the years. Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, The Thing, Silver Surfer, Dr. Doom, Judge Dredd, Judge Anderson, Cyclops, Colossus, Storm, The Spirit, Killer Number 2 (Bunraku), Snake-Eyes, Black Widow, Garrett P.I. (novels by Glenn Cook,), Muab Dib/Fremen, Samuree, Magneto, She Hulk, Hawkman, Sub Zero (Mortal Combat), Destro, Red Skull, Vision, Wonder Woman, Joker, Harley Quinn, Beatrix Kiddo, Snake Plisken. And those are just the ones I remember.I have personally used the character creator to copy Gambit, Captain America, Deadpool, Ghost Rider, Thor, The Hulk, the Thing, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Rogue, and several other characters that aren't coming to mind right now with probably 80% accuracy, and closer to 95% on some of them.

Quote:Wanna bet on that? They warn you that it's not a combat power, so nobody can complain about being ripped off when it isn't useful in combat. And they keep it short, so people can't complain about this minor non-combat power being an overhyped money-grab.
Quote:I can't seem to figure out the in game link to see the detailed info for this power(or they named it something completely unintuitive), and I won't ever buy anything more than a few dollars without being well informed.
So how much stealth does it have?
(player responses deleted)
So it is practically useless for stealthing missions, which tend to have cramped quarters that force you in very close proximity to enemies unless you can teleport past them or fly above them if the ceiling is high enough.
Well, there goes my interest in the power out the window. -

Oh look another City of Vehicles thread.

Quote:I'm not sure that invalidates what's been discussed by everyone else.Nope. This whole thread is based off hypocrisy. Do not defend yourself with "B-But it'll be the first time onii-san punishes meeeee!"
1. Direct rip offs of copyrighted/trademarked characters is against the rules.
2. Homage/parody characters that are significantly different will be left alone by GM's.
3. If you choose to break the copyright rule don't be surprised if you get hit with the gen stick, and don't expect sympathy from most players.
4. If someone chooses to petition a copyright issue, keep your dang yap shut about it. Let the GM's handle any discussions.
5. (Now this is jut my opinion) If someone feels compelled to lecture someone about their decision to create a rip off character, I think the most effective way to avoid conflict is to first compliment the person on his or her ability to recreate said character, then in a conspiratorial way, warn them that they could get genericed by a GM.
"Dude great "x" clone. Ya mind if I let ya know something?"
"Well while I think you look great, if ya get spotted by a GM, they could generic that character for copyright violation. I know it sucks but it happens."
Heck it might even be a good idea to say that they "nailed" you for the same thing.
I think they'd find that a lot less confrontational than what the OP said.
"Pleased to meet you mister soon to be known as Generic 847 924 6722, because if someone reports you, that will be your new name."
Not trying to pick on you D_E, just saying I don't think it was the most diplomatic way to broach the topic with a complete stranger. -
Quote:The point I'm making is that the statement you made is exactly the argument the people making blatant rip off characters use. They want everyone to ignore the fact that they were breaking the rules in the first place. In their minds they are victims and the real bad guys are the ones enforcing the rules.Stop boozing for a moment and read what I said. I meant, and stated, specifically in the cases of an Expy, or a Captain Ersatz. Both are protected well enough by the law.
I am supportive of "XvXDEADPOOLXvX" being reported.
I am against "Deathlake" being reported.
You may continue your boozing now.
Note: Expys and Ersatzs do not break the rules, either. So, your statement, in regards to mine, is false. Again, it helps to read and take whole context, not snip individual sentences.
They make the same argument when they get caught using names the GM's deemed offensive. -
-
Quote:No. You can file a petition on the name if you like. It's up to the GM's to decide if it violates the naming policy.Yeah see i find more offense in that than costumes..The whole period and X thing like .Brand-X (er not saying the X is bad in that name see next example) or xXNetherGoatXx just to get around the naming and it is my understanding that players can't report there names taken in such a way?
The only thing I wouldn't do is confront the individual. Even if your motives are pure, and you phrase it as nonaggressively as possible most people making those rip off characters are going to respond in a defensive and or hostile manner. And much like what happened to the OP, if and when they get genned they are going to blame the person that opened his/her mouth. Cuz you know, they couldn't possibly be responsible for naming their own character and designing the costume. -
Funny thing about this topic, just this afternoon I saw a guy with a Deadpool ripoff using x's and spaces to get around the name ban to prevent it's use.
-
Quote:What the GM's are supposed do in those cases in reset the costume to default. The names should be safe unless it also violates copyright or if they determine it is offensive in some way.Not to derail this thread but seems like a good place to ask this.. So you are saying that even if you have an original name, but dress your character like say Stargirl for example ( i did this once on my staff fighter just for fun!) you could get genericed? not that you can as Nether said, really copy anyone exactly.

Quote:It's also hilarious that he actually thinks people who are laughing at his crazy posts are "whining" about complainers, or that we're blowing things out of proportion when he's the one that's making analogies about giving starving people moldy rotten food with maggots and tapeworms.Does anyone else find it absolutely hilarious that the guy doing all the yelling and screaming about the value of the free stuff.... Is already playing the game for free?
It's also humorous to watch as his compulsive need to get in the last word keeps him posting after saying he has nothing more to say. -
This is an often made SG request and /signed every time.

Quote:If the result of the GM's not enforcing the rules means this game gets sued again I have no problem losing a handful of "players" that refuse to obey the rules. So, your suggestion is to guarantee that a player of the game is lost because that player *might* upset another and cause them to leave.
/unsigned
Even if NCSoft/PS win the lawsuit they still lose financially and that hurts my game experience because the money wasted in court isn't getting spent on new content. -
That's funny, I thought you said all you had to say on this subject.
Quote:That is the last I'm saying about that, no matter how much you will inevitably attempt to goad me into more.
Quote:It's funny how the double standards come up.
It's like the old saying "beggars can't be choosers" being applied to giving a starving person moldy rotten food with maggots and tapeworms in it to where they are "dead if they eat it, dead if they don't".
Oh wait, if they're starving to death, why are they wasting what money they have on a computer, internet access, and electricity to run the computer in the first place?
Wouldn't that money be better spent on food and shelter rather than getting access to a video game and complaining about an in game freebie?

Quote:Here's the thing to remember about power leveling and farming. What really gets people upset are the various farm/pl spammers. these are the people that won't take "No." for an answer and end up getting /ignored and 1 starred. As long as you don't act like a PITA by harassing people with PL/Farm me messages, no one will care if you do either.I'm not too sure how well the topic of power levelling goes over on the forums due to being away for quite some time and just had a quick question about it. If I were to power level my own toons, would it be better to go with +4/x8 or +0/x8, or maybe somewhere in between?
Sorry for the many questions, but I appreciate your responses.
1 starring is done by right clicking on a character name in the chat box and selecting Notes. You get a window that let's you rate a player from 1-5 stars and add a personal note to remind you why you gave the player that rating. The number of stars you gave that player will then appear over every character on that players account when you see them That way you can easily spot people you want to avoid or you love teaming with. Only you can see the stars and notes you've assigned to other people. -
