Yeah seeing how some (not all) of the pro-purge people usually react I have to agree that they'll still be complaining because they still won't get the names they want. They've convinced themselves the names they want are on inactive accounts and can't possibly be on an active account where the owner plays opposite their schedule or is on a less frequently played alt.

It's cute how you try to spin things. No one told you to stop playing this game. If you bothered to actually read my post instead of jumping to conclusions I clearly said that the other MMO, not CoH, wouldn't be losing money since they already allow free accounts.

Both this game and the other MMO are hybrid F2P busines models so you can play both for free without spending a dime more than you are right now. So when you get the urge to use a name that's already taken here, you can make it there.

Also explaining how most of the players agree with the games unique naming policy and providing you with the devs own statements that they have no intention of running the name freeing script any time in the near future isn't bullying.

Are you sure you want to phrase it like that? There are currently players that have either never spent a dime on the game or have dropped to Premium and stopped spending money altogether.

Should the company flag their character names as available if a paying customer wants the name in question?

I know you didn't mean it that way from your first use of "Active", but just pointing that out cuz, well, you know how this place gets sometimes.

    1. The servers are all in the same location and have been for same time now, and even before they physically moved the servers and merged the server lists we frequently encountered EU and Aussie players on NA servers.

    2. Everybody currently has the same 24 hour window regardless of country and timezone.

    3. If a person can't find 3 minutes out of a 24 hour period to log into the game to claim a free item then they have bigger problems to worry about than what timezone an event starts in.

If they can't manage their own marketing promo, then don't bother doing it.
As has been made abundantly clear, the event does in fact start on Friday as advertised. It isn't the companies fault if you live in a different timezone than the one the event starts in.

This game is INTERNATIONAL. It has customers spanning the entire world. There will always be a difference in timezones

You are 100% correct, and if the OP had an issue with the market description of one of those items he may have gotten different responses from people.

However that isn't the case here.

    1. The items in question did in fact clearly explain how they were to be used, contrary to how the OP assumed they would work.

    2. The OP admitted he didn't bother reading the the product descriptions at all. He made an impulse purchase. That means even if the description had been wildly inaccurate at the time of purchase, he'd have never noticed it anyway because he couldn't be bothered to check until after he made his purchase and tried to use it.

That's an issue concerning the games rules about copyright/trademark violations and how they are enforced. It has nothing to do with unique names or running the script to free up names on inactive accounts.

Still, other items have a (VIP CONTENT) warning. Shouldn't it, as well...
    No.

Enhancement Boosters have never been restricted VIP content. Prems have two options available to be able to use Enhancement Boosters. One of which you already mentioned.

    1. Buy a $2. dollar IO liscense each month.
    2. Earn 27 Paragon Rewards and unlock permanent access to the Invention System.

You're statement that Prems have to pay "forever" or go VIP is false.

Gifting has been suggested to the devs several times.

Oh Wise and Mystic 8-Ball, will the OP's desicion to rely on other people who may be just as uninformed about products as he is put an end to his regretting buying items he finds he can't use after he makes the purchase?

Unfortunately for you the majority of the playerbase feels the opposite and supports the devs policy on unique names. Of course you do have the option of playing that other MMO where you're allowed to use other players name. No one here will mind. After all it's not like they are losing a paying customer since that MMO is also an F2P hybrid.

Only problem is it doesn't. Players go into their controls and disable the globals so they don't show cuz it looks ugly as hell in the chatboxes then the wrong person get blamed when some jerk using the same character name trashes their rep.

Sure they "could" go into their controls and verify who is actually to blame but that's too much effort. Much easier to hope you pick the right one to blame.

Unique names are much easier to keep things straight. Which is why so many MMO's use them.

I hate to break the new to you DarkGob, but the name is 100% accurate.

4PM PDT (Pacific Daylight Time) on Thursday in the US of A is 12AM BST (British Summer Time) Friday in Europe.

Freebie Friday starts on Fridays at 12AM BST and ends 24 hour later at 12AM BST.

I applaud the devs for running this feature on EU time for a change. Far too often EU and Aussie players have to suffer things being run on American time zones.

    NPC pick-ups

Considering that most of those NPC's are supposed to be normal people it makes RP sense that they can't run as fat as a super hero/villain. We are playing Meta Humans. We are vastly stronger, and faster than the average human so of course we can easily outdistance them.

And before anyone complains about not wanting RP in the game, this is an MMORPG. If you are gonna play an RPG your going to encounter RP in the game mechanics.

I agree completely. People are acting like the Earth is so large that it's possible for people living outside the USA to be in different time zones and even be the next/previous day at the same time.

What next? Are the people gonna try to claim that when it's winter in the US they are haveing summer below the equator?

    Bunch of crazy complaining nutters.

He did say more levels. I'm guessing that means he wants the level cap raised which most likely isn't going to happen. If the devs were considering that they wouldn't have come up with the Incarnate System with it's +1, +2 etc. system.

Just as a small test which because the draws are random doesn't garuntee anything I picked up 15 packs to check what three groups of 5 might get in Reward Merits. The first time I got 400 RM, the second group I got 300 RM, and the last group I got 525 RM.

The Reward Merit cards come in values of x25, x50, x75, and x100. You can get more than one card value in each pack.

All 5 costume slots and my name was gen'd including the Brazil (green, yellow and blue), Peru (red, green and white), Colombia (yellow, blue and red) and Argentina (white, blue and yellow) costumes.

I thought it was a little much that the CoH rep trashed everything.
Ooh, if I were a GM I have to admit I'd be borderline on which way I'd go on that. I'd definitely would check to see if there was a bio that clearly showed the character in question was not a knock off, but I'd probably have suggested that you try picking a specific country because even if I sided with you, that name would get petitioned again and another GM would overrule my decision generic it.
  20. I'm in for Elementary, Zero Hour, and Revolution. I refuse to watch anything on SiFee anymore. That channel is dead to me.
  21. I must admit this thread has inspired me to recheck a few names I always wanted but were in use and I found them available on two different servers. After snagging them I was inspired to create SG's to go along with them and then I had to run with the theme of the SG and name camp an additional 16 names/costumes so the SG rosters don't look silly with missing names.

Now I'll be checking the other servers from time to time so I can expand hopefully to cover all 16 servers.
  22. Off topic. It irritates me that we can fly thru chopper blades unharmed. I really want those things to at least whack the hell out of people an send them flying.

Banning is in fact appropriate IF and only if the offender goes out of his or her way to circumvent the GM's genericing of a character name and or costume.

    Example

Player "A" gets genned for copyright violation and creates the exact same character (or other blatant rip-offs) again and again and again for as many times as it takes the GM's to realize this person is thumbing his nose at the rules and their authority. (That's the real reason for getting Banned. Ignoring and circumventing their authority)

We as players don't need to know if there's a fixed number of times to be genned before a ban is invoked. If we did there would be idiots out there trying to push that limit. After all account are free, and there are plenty of dingleberries that get their kicks seeing how fast they can get accounts banned by acting like jerks in MMO's.

Agreed. I'm suggesting that Reward Merits are a widely-available resource (a new player would hardly need to seek them out) that would give players something that's both useful to them now and hints at what else is out there.

And I'm suggesting this at tier 3 completion for a very specific reason: that represents a player spending $45-50 in the Market. That amount of money is what many gamers who would never consider an outright subscription regularly pay for a new game. Offer these players rewards outside of chain-running Death From Below, and see if the promise of more game that the Reward Merits hint at motivates them to either spend more or go VIP.

Agent White mentioned that ATO can be both purchased with Reward Merits and used by Premium/Free players. Perhaps a Premium player would work toward that as a goal, than get tempted by IO options? It'd give level 50 Premium toons a goal, in any event.
    /unsigned

Premiums don't need to spend $45-50 to get started using Reward Merits. A single $5 dollar purchase can easily get them several hundred merits from Super Packs, and a $2 dollar market license will allow them to sell any unusable ATO's they get from the packs for tens to hundreds of millions of inf which in turn will allow them to buy ATO's they actually can use from the Merit Vendor.

Minimum spent $7 bucks which is a very inexpensive carrot to entice premiums to subscribe/buy Paragon Rewards to unlock Reward Merits or decide that they want to continue as they are.

That's not even remotely true. I have almost 200 characters and with the exception of 1 character that has 326 Reward Merits the rest all have less than 50, and 25 of those merits come from Vet/Paragon Rewards.

Since the Super Packs went on sale I have 4,500 Reward Merits sitting unclaimed in my email.
