Quote:That's what I said. It's a completely separate option of pants for a set. One is designed for the Tight category, an the other bulkier design is for the Armored category. If you look at the armored pants, they're essentially a different pant option (I don't remember quite which) with an extra layer of "padding" on top of them.
Thigh Accessories - would be a completely new costume category that modifies the basic leg options they same way Detail 1, an Detail 2 modify the Head, and Chest Detail, Back Detail, and Shoulders modify the Torso.
That will require the use of a new anchor point which may not exist. It may not even be possible without redesigning the whole costume creator from scratch with more anchor points. -
Quote:Hmmmmmmmmmm what an interesting little example you came up with. It seems to suit your purpose to a T and shows your obvious bias.
Anyway, I was hoping to have a discussion here. Lots of interesting theories but no official word etc. Unless an NC Soft rep actually chimes in, we cannot say for certain what is happening with policy.
I will admit I am disappointed with NC but it is only a game. My sub ends soon and I don't think I will be staying VIP. This naming non-sense along with tier 9 VIP rewards and the blah issues (they seem very uninteresting lately) have me debating the move.
So I guess that means you won't be playing any MMO's anymore then. Because there isn't a single one that doesn't have and enforce a policy against copyright violations.
Buh-bye and can we haz ur stuff? -
Quote:No we don't. I just checked Armored Pants and there is no such padding option. We can only choose the style of armor (like Tech or Steampunk for example) and the color scheme (like Camo or Stripes). That's it.I may be wrong on this, but it seems to me as if it would be possible to have pads, pouches, etc. Under armored pants, we do get "padding" options. Since these seem to exist already, I'm curious if they could be separated from where they're currently listed and made into a separate option as tails were from belts a while back.
The closest we come to thigh accessories is when the devs add two separate choices of pants to a set. Like Clockwork plain and with thigh pads.
Thigh accessories would be separate costume selection that would fit on any pants design, and as RevolverMike already explained,

Quote:Oh I missed a lot of names. You missed one from Marvel: Strong Guy.
I also only posted names from the big two. DC/Marvel. I didn't touch the smaller even non US comic book companies.

Personally about once a year I do a spring cleaning and go thru my characters and delete around 100 characters whose concepts never took off.

Quote:What's funny is how you insist on ignoring the one condition Goat set that cannot be met under the current procedure the devs use to free names unless you personally know for a fact the owner of the account reserving the name is an absentee player.Again, your willingness to pick and choose is amusing. Let's first look at what Nethergoat said.
According to Nethergoat's argument, you can't be giddy about receiving a freed name because you don't know whether or not it belonged to an old account.
Let's be real, people can be giddy about receiving a freed name regardless of whether or not they know it belonged to an old account. If I got a name I wanted, I'd be happy. The jump in logic from the argument [If you don't know if a name belongs to an old account,] to the conclusion [then you can't be giddy about receiving a freed name.] leaves the conclusion to fall on its face.
Furthermore, we are quite capable of watching names. Look at Snow Globe, BrandX, myself and yourself. Snow Globe was able to get the name Strobe. Because of this thread, you have checked names you've wanted and gotten some of them.
If I knew that a name freeing occurred and had been watching that name for a long time before the name freeing (during which it was reserved) and after the name freeing (after which it was no longer reserved), there would be good reason to believe that the name was freed by the change. Would I know for sure why the name was freed? Not necessarily, but that doesn't make it impossible.
Additionally, when I responded, I didn't agree to the poorly set confines, which I consequently expanded: "So the people who have watched and claimed the names they've wanted be freed either by player choice or by developer choice qualify as 'NOBODY'?"
Nethergoat's argument fails in itself. "NOBODY" can't apply under the previously set conditions.
You can go thru all the mental gymnastics you like, You can't boast to have gotten a name from an abandonded account if you have no way to confirm it was on an abandonded in the first place.
And your argument that a name freed up by another player meets Goats conditions is laughable. If a player is logged into the game and deleting a character, the account isn't abandonded and wouldn't be subject to the name purge script. -
Quote:Not relevant. My response to the person I quoted was directed at his statement that implied that Blizzard was using the word in question before Tolkien revived it in his works. I never argued that the word didn't exist before 1954.You realize that the word predates BOTH of these sources, right? The world did exist before 1954, as did fairy tale monsters and magic.
-
Quote:Unless the devs publicly post a list of the names that the script freed up, or some indicator that identifies a name as being one that was made available by the purge, we all qualify as nobody under the conditions Goat specified. So the people who have watched and claimed the names they've wanted be freed either by player choice or by developer choice (represented in this thread currently by BrandX, Forbin_Project, and IBtT) qualify as "NOBODY"? Intriguing ...
However outside those specific conditions, "nobody" doesn't apply. -

Quote:Worded that way I'm still not sure I agree with you but I'll concede I'm willing to give it more thought.By keeping the current naming policy, the company is saying that they value long absent players more than current players.
Quote:You are repeating yourself.
Quote:Actually Bill didn't say people are coming back after 3+ years. He only said some absent players are returning. He also didn't say how long these players come back for.
You are right he didn't say it but he implied it, also I notice you are trying to ignore the fact that we have had posts made on the forums by returning players admitting they've been absent 3+ years and looking for info about all the changes in the game. -
-
Quote:Trifling semantics is the only thing lefty to argue about on this topic. The devs have already decided they aren't running the script. And yet the name purge looked for accounts that had not been logged into...that were inactive. ACTIVE implies you are doing something with the account...
Please don't get into trifle semantics... this thread is about INACTIVE accounts....people who have not logged into the game for 3+ years. Every account has the ABILITY to be active if the person would take an action (logging in)....which would then nullify their risk of losing a name. -
Quote:And yet despite doing that we still see people claiming the servers are dead, they can't find anyone to team with, the servers should be merged, etc. They on the other hand are at least playing and more than likely giving teamage to someone or making the game look more populated to the VIP.
-
Quote:Except.. ya know.. A Freemium who is logging in...has an active account. Twisting the logic and viewpoint of the opposing person's to vilify them..is a low-ball tactic. No one who is for this has ever said in this thread that active Freemiums who have not spent any money should lose their names...if you wanna point out fallacies as your proof you may wanna stop using fallacious arguments in the process.
If there are people on the forums who were gone for 3+ years... maybe you should nudge them towards this thread to give some credence to your view point...I would love to see someone who left a company for 3+ years declare they had a right to something they abandoned
All accounts, except the banned ones, were made active when Freedom launched. Trying to claim a persons account isn't active just because they have not logged in after the switch to Freedom is a fallacy. -
Quote:What?i won game how do i make game more not bad to keep interested i won do not try win.
If I'm deciphering this correctly, you think there is an objective that can be accomplished that makes you the "winner" of the game.
Well that's not the case. This game cannot be "won". There is no final task to overcome. CoH has no end. The devs add new stuff to do at all levels as quickly as they can create it. People play this game because they enjoy playing. If you are looking for a game that can be beaten, you'll have to try playing something else. -

Quote:Well, I can't imagine machines being environmentalists. As far as the movies go we are expected to accept that the machines can't unburn the sky, but that's one of those little annoying things in movies that irks some people but we learn to ignore most of them.I dunno, cleaning up the vast wastelands, maybe trying to unburn the sky, recultivating the remaining flore and fauna. They had something like a couple centuries, instead they just farm humans and play games in the tunnels letting them rebuild Zion before trashing it and starting it over again.
Just saying, the machines don't seem like they did much better as the rulers of the planet.
If the machines were solar powered and they adapted to using humans as a power source, why didn't they just leave Earth for outer space where sunlight is plentiful and they could get reources from the asteroids and other planets? Of course there wouldn't have been a movie then. -
Earliest comic books I remember being a fan of were the war comics. Sgt. Rock, G.I. Robot, Haunted Tank, Battlefield Action, Wierd War, Unknown Soldier. Then as those became harder to find I moved on to the traditional Marvel/DC super heroes.

Quote:Devil's advocate argument. So using your logic it could be argued that a Freemium player who has been playing since Freedom launched and still hasn't spent a dime on the game is more likely to continue not spending anything and therefore forfeits any right to keep the names he/she is using.True. But a current subscriber is much more wlikely to continue offering money than one who's already left and been gone for over three years.
Cuz spending/not spending money the core of your argument in this quote. -
Quote:You want long-term inactive players to be treated better than active players.
You want long-term inactive players to be treated better than active SUBSCRIBERS. That is a good way to lose customers, not gain them.
I'm sorry but I'm not seeing how treating absentee players exactly the same as active players, is treating them better.
The naming policy is currently first come first serve and no one currently gets priority access to a name based on the last time they logged in.
Quote:After being allowed to play FOR NOTHING, if any account is still inactive for 3+ years then they aren't coming back. They've had 4-6 free weekends and over 9 months to play for free. There comes a point where you write off someone as even a potential customer. If you fail to do so you aren't very good at business.
And for a company that isn't very good at business because they've refused to free up a handful of names (Yes it is a handful of names compared to the millions of combinations of names that are available) , they've sure been making a lot of money. What was they made on Super Packs? Half a million? I wish I was that bad at business. -
Paragon Studios/NCSoft knows they are under no obligation to hold any names for absentee players. They are voluntarily choosing to do it for the time being.

Quote:The level bumping I was referring to are the occasional "The devs should give us the option to start at level "XX"." suggestions. But raising the level cap is another good one.Level Bumping: I think the Incarnate system provides this in a way that works for this game.
Quote:So no it does not bother me if they never run the name purge script again, but I have yet to see any compelling argument on why they shouldn't run it either.
Quote:I think "no, thanks." Especially with Freedom, as I'm running into people fairly regularly who are coming back saying "I haven't played in quite some time." We want to keep them.
I *do,* however, think something like that should apply to:
- Old trial accounts. Their globals were all renamed "trial *random string*" so they're not that hard to find. Pop up a message for when they log in, IF they do, asking them to pick a global name (or have it revert to whatever the first character is, then give the message.) 90 days and they get freed up.
- Banned accounts. Given I still have a list full of spammers, and I doubt most people want oluiadf89234... still, those should just be completely cleared.
Also:
- Accounts that haven't been on in a year get an email. "Come back. If you don't plan to, please free up your names, click here."
- Accounts that are old enough to not have a global - well, the names under 35 *are* freed up from an old script. See if they reply. If not, archive 'em after 180 days after trying to make contact with an email or two like those above. -
Quote:You must love watching people keep making this suggestion after we've been flat out told by the devs that they aren't running the name purge anytime in the near future.Or maybe SG meant you calling people in favor of this idea : lazy.. as demonizing.. hmm I dunno....
I love it when people play obtuse and I love it even more when people play the martyr (not saying you are playing the martyr).
Edit: Let's see what are some other good topics where we get to see obtuseness and martyrs . . . Oh! Merging the servers, full power set/AT respecs, open world PvP, and level bumping.
