I wouldn't mind seeing something like this, but I can think of a dozen of things far more important to be added and/or fixed. This would be an extremely low priority project. Like how we got Walk.
-
The problem could also be with the OP's internet provider. Another player is reporting having similar problems with choppy/stuttering lag after switching to Comcast.

I can't imagine anyone mistaking that flick for a recruitment movie.

Oh and another thing I wanted to pimp slap that fool for saying "I want to borrow your boat." There is no way in hell a Naval officer in the USN is going to call a battleship a "boat" A submarine is a "boat". A battleship is a "Ship".

Quote:If I was "assuming" I wouldn't bother to ask you for clarification. I would simply dismiss you out of hand.I know it's easy to assume that whomever you are arguing with knows nothing about the topic, but don't do that here.
Quote:No, it was because they showed up in dramatic poses in dramatic locations all over the superstructure. Maybe you don't have an issue with 70+ year old people climbing all over the superstructure, but I do.
Edit: No I take that back. Some of them had to be in their early 70's
Quote:If they had just showed up walking on the deck, I would have been OK with it. I understand how the floating museums work. However they had to make it over the top, much like everything else in the movie.
Quote:The aliens can't just switch a hand weapon, they have to fiddle with it for 3 minutes making lots of transformer noises and it has to shift around. If anyone made a weapon system that inept, they would deserve to lose any and all wars.
Then when the excrement hits the ventilator the aliens send in the killer yo-yos instead of the appreciably more sensible and efficient lodging explosives. Had they just done that everyone on the destroyer would have been shark bait, and they wouldn't have lost.
Oh, and then there's the alien ships with they oh so efficient method of transport- flopping across the surface of the water. Yeah, that's brilliant. Why didn't we ever think of that? (well maybe since it's an asinine way of wasting energy).
Quote:Those are certainly valid as well. The fact that there was ammo belts present for the mounted machineguns was particularly over the top.
Quote:Then you had the people trekking the shell across the ship. That's wasn't all young guys, and they didn't really go with any 80-90s era veterans of the ship. 70+ year old people are not likely to be all too good at hefting that much weight (heck we can say 60+ if we assume Vietnam era as well, but still that's pretty old for that kind of labor).
Quote:How about whipping the ship around on an anchor? Don't think physics works that way.
Quote:Look, I could attempt to think back and pick apart every stupid part of that movie, but honestly it's just not worth my time. I attempted to back off and agree to disagree. You didn't want that. Look, IMO the movie was a horrendous bowser. You liked it(even if you can help pick it apart). As they say YMMV. We're no more likely to agree here apparently than we are as to whether chocolate or vanilla is better. -
Quote:Never underestimate how lazy players can be. I've seen someone get pissed at his SGmate because he got in an argument with player with a similarly named character and the SG roster clearly showed the player being blamed han't been on the character in question for over a month.I didn't think this would be a real concern, what with being able to find out a toon's global, and the knowledge that not every toon of the same name is always run by the same player.
The guy that had been the jerk had used the old "L" for "I" substitution to get the same name. -
Quote:I think thats for general maintenance in port, not actually getting underway and leaving port. A museum isn't going to be leaving the docks unless it's for a special event. And the boilers, you gotta light those suckers up at least a day or two in advance from a cold start. In regards to 1), they said they had enough fuel in the tanks for maintenence runs, whatever that means. They didn't have a full load.
The ammo bit? Ya, that raised my eyebrows a bit. I wouldn't think they'd have full rounds plus the powder charges all ready to go. Maybe they brought some in from offsite? I seem to recall them saying they scrounged up some ammo.
In actual wartime sure they probably had ammo storage near the docks but no way not during peacetime, but then again it's a movie so ya let some things slide for the sake of entertainment. -
How bout getting more sensible laws written.

Quote:How do we know we aren't going to agree if you won't explain what it was that felt contrived. It is readily apparent that we're not going to agree on this, so I won't bother to try an explain why I thought it was contrived.
Honestly I'm actively trying to forget the movie as is.
Was it the fact that there were actual sailors on the battleship museum?
Well it's a military museum and who better to be assigned to work at the museum than the sailors who actually served onboard the battleship who can share first hand knowledge of what it was like to be assigned to the ship.
Was it how they all showed up at roughly the same time?
Onboard ship the crew can be called to muster at any location on the ship over the ship's intercom.
The only really unbelievable things that happened that were immersion breaking occurred during the montage where they were getting ready to set sail.
1. The boilers in the Engine Room were cold an we watched them get lit. There is no way that they could have gotten hot enough and built up enough power to set sail that fast. They also wouldn't leave it's fuel tanks filled. They'd be running power lines from the pier to run the onboard equipment.
2. There is no way in hell that a decommissioned museum had live ammunition onboard.
3. You don't just drive a battleship like a speedboat away from a dock. The bigger the ship the more tugboats are required to get the ship away from the pier and underway. -

Waspinator: I said NO! Dragon-bot command you, Sub-commander kiss-butt! Dragon-bot not command Waspinator! Not any more! Waspinator sick of being evil!
Sick of being Predacon! And Waspinator sick of being blown to scrap all the time! Sooo, Waspinator quits! As of NOW!
Which means Ant-bot and Two-head can just pucker up their mandibles and plant big wet juicy ones right here on Waspinator's big, fat, stripy...
BLAM!
[Inferno and Quickstrike blast Waspinator]

Quote:I like the theme (It's also unusual enough that except for two of the names I need, no one will want the names I'm using) and I play on multiple servers. For example Tanker Tuesdays meets on different servers each week and weekend so if I want to participate more than once a month I need characters on multiple servers. Thanks for the offer.
Okay. But what I don't understand is, once you have a name on one or two servers, what's the point of taking it on the other ~10? No offense, but that just seems greedy to me. After all, you can only play one toon at a time -- unless you are multi-boxing?
Also playing on as many servers as possible means I can always find a team when I'm in the mood. If one server is dead I can find something going on on another server by keeping an eye on the global channels.
Besides I'm paying $15 bucks a month for 192 character slots, it seems awfully wasteful for me not to use them. And I'm far from unusual. Many players not only play on multiple servers, but they have multiple accounts as well. Sometimes as many as 4, 5 and 6 accounts, and since Freedom went live we don't have to pay for those extra accounts anymore.
The biggest attractions to this game is our ability to create several dozen characters, and satisfy our altitis.
Of course there's nothing wrong with a person limiting himself to one character on one server. Hey that's what Free accounts are for. There's room in this game for everyone.
Well everyone except the inhabitants of the moons of Saturn. They can find their own damn game. Smelly methane breathers. -
Quote:What was contrived about it? The battlehip was a museum and the sailors worked at the museum at various locations on the ship. Just like when you go to the USS Constitution, there are real Navy sailors working there.I would have liked the sceen had it not been so contrived. The whole appearing at random places in the superstructure just made it over the top. I appreciated the sentiment, but it was very poorly executed.
That was really the problem with a lot of the movie. Not all the ideas were bad, but the actual execution of getting them on the screen usually fell through. -

Quote:Yeah, you misread that, FP. He said that Tolkien used an old word, therefore Blizzard could use it, too.
Somehow you transposed "WoW" and "word". Mistakes happen. Not sure how you read it that way, but we've all had brain farts. What I *don't* understand is your continual insistence that your interpretation is correct. It's not.
Sorry Ironik, I didn't transpose "WoW" and "word", and I already explained what I thought his post was implying. Oh and providing that explanation isn't insisting that it's "correct".
Now if you can't accept my explanation of what I thought his post implied, that's too bad for you. -
Quote:I was gonna ask if anyone ha gotten their codes yet, but I see you already answered that. Back to waiting.I haven't received a code or anything yet but I'm sure that will come down the pipeline later this week when they are sure there are no ahem -bugs- with the latest update. I'm regretting not taking any screenshots but hopefully the Devs will put those up soon too.

Quote:The contest announcement was posted on the website, on the Launcher under Latest News, and (GASP!!!) in the Announcement section of the Forums by Freitag. see linkSorry this thread was probably the 5th thread in a row I posted in where I saw the devs/game owners/whoever doing something that I disagreed with and was annoyed when I posted that comment.
This in particular was the 2nd thread where something wasn't announced on these forums, why have a forum if you aren't going to use it properly, we don't all want to check twitter, fbook or whatever the hell tumblr is to see stuff that they should be providing us with on their own website!

Saw it, enjoyed it, will see it again.
Favorite scene
When they are on the deck of the Missouri and the grizzled vets walk up and volunteer to help.
Maybe it's because I'm a Navy vet myself
Maybe it's because I saw it on Memorial Day Weekend
Maybe it's because the movie took place in Hawaii and I was reminded of another sneak attack
But that scene brought a tear to my eye and a HELL YEAH!!! to my heart. That feeling alone is worth the admission fee. -
Quote:Oh yeah. For example, this thread inspired me to check the availability of three particular names that are critical to a themed SG concept/name. To my delight the names were available on 10 servers, so I grabbed them and formed the SG on each server. Sure the other 7 names the SG concept requires are just as important but they are so unusual that the only way they'd get used is by someone trying to be a jerk and snagging it just to keep me from filling out my SG rosters. So because they are unusual I don't have to rush to get them reserved ASAP.That means over 100 character creations each year?
I've been in CoH for about 3.5 years now, and probably haven't made more than 50 -- total. Of which I still have about 40. I tend to make a toon only if I have a 'working concept' to start with, and/or a name. Yes, I have decided to not make a toon if I couldn't design a name that was available -- and that is after at least 4-6 tries at re-working the name in some way.
I tried to get "ThunderFist" on Guardian (my first server, and first toon). N/A. I tried "Thunderfist" - N/A. So I tried KiloVolt. N/A. MegaVolt. N/A. GigaVolt. N/A. TeraVolt. N/A. PetaVolt. Available! But I still dream about being able to rename him to ThunderFist, since he is based upon a TableTop character of mine with that name.
I did get ThunderFist on Exalted, btw.
Oh and if I had Thunderfist on any server I'd gladly give it up for you. -

Quote:No argument there. I'd love to see a costume generator with a lot more options as far as anchor points go.Which, honestly, would probably be bloody welcome about now >_>
Separate anchor points for Eyes and Horns. Upper Arm Details separate from shoulders, Lower Arms seperate from Gloves, & Thigh Accessories.
The ability to place scars and tattoos with an x, y, z slider an rotate them.
The thing is unless they've been working on this in secret for a while, it'll be god knows how long before we see any of it added to the game.
