Quote:Yeah, and how many powers in the game require you or the target to be standing on the ground to work? They just won't work if swimming is involved.I always supported the idea of underwater fighting. But the issue is that it'll be really hard to do.
First you have to make an AoE based auto-power that acts like flight while in water, except with a different animation. Then you have to tweak various animations that are already in game from their flight stance to their underwater stance (at least those that don't fit already). Then you have to come up with an explanation as to why it is your toons can hold their breath for hours.
Though if they're willing to do all this I won't stop them.
How is Oilslick Arrow supposed to knock opponents down?
How are any fire powers going to burn underwater without looking stupid?
How are birds (Beast Mastery attacks) supposed to fly underwater?
The list goes on. -
Quote:The closest connection I can determine is that they are the Avengers and the song has the word "revenge" in it a couple of times.I just don't understand the YouTube zeitgeist of taking completely unrelated video and soundtrack and putting them together (or, in this case, characters from a movie animated to an unrelated song). I mean, it's a nice video, but any set of characters could have equally fit. Actually, characters from a movie where there were bad romances would have fit. But it's like:
Here's the space dogfight scene from Star Wars with Sound of Music's "Lonely Goatherd."
Here's Buffy and Angel's love scene to the Beatles's "Yellow Submarine."
Here's any scene from Harry Potter to a song picked by the roll of a d100.
I mean, if there was some connection from the visual to the soundtrack, it would make sense. But I just don't get it.
Also, it ticks the heck out of me when I'm searching for the actual unadulterated clip of a video and I get a thousand hits of nonsensically dubbed over visuals. (And don't get me started on all the false hits that come from brain dead 'response videos.')
/endrant
That said, I do get a little chuckle at the idea of the Avengers doing a dance routine. -
You aren't surprised because like many of us you've been exposed to so much colossal stupidity you've become numb to it.
-
Quote:Well, BaBs is no longer working on this project, so I guess it's possible for the devs to get a gibbering idiot to spend years developing a stupid looking underwater combat feature.I'm going to kill everyone's pony and say that as long as I am on this project, it will never happen. They will have to replace me with a gibbering idiot to get the okay to move forward with animation and VFX needed to support 'underwater' zones.
And then it will take years and ultimately look stupid.
P.S. Aquaman is lame! -
Three years was the deadline I used before deciding to do housekeeping on the SG rosters I've inherited. There are still original SG members in the SG's but they log in from time to time before 3 years expires and their last login resets.

I can see why Sidekicking may not appear in other MMO genre's but in my opinion it is an integral facet of the super hero universe. I'd be upset if it wasn't encouraged in this type of game.

Quote:Well if one is willing to put the effort (that includes financial effort for those Freems) into making friends by joining channels, and participating in regular sponsored events (ex. Tanker Tuesdays) then finding people to run specific content is much much easier. How flexible are you as to what you will do? If you mean, "get a team to do anything" then perhaps. But try to get a team for say a Moonfire when it isn't the WST and you're not willing to put it together yourself.
Assumptions aren't good to use (what the heck does utilize mean that use doesn't) either.
However if one is just going to sit like a lump waiting for invitations to be sent on a silver platter then one has no right to complain nor deserve any sympathy. -
Quote:Ah so the hyperbole you were referring to was being used by those in that subgroup we were talking about. I misunderstood. And I'll disagree with that, too. It is hyperbole. Those are just stupid people. Those people aren't actually seeking a team (that implies effort), they want one to fall onto their game screen. To say they're having to wait upwards of an hour to "find a team" is hyperbole - they aren't even ATTEMPTING to find a team, not truly. If they actually looked around to get a team, they would have little to no problem. On any server.
-
Quote:A few weeks ago I saw the same group of characters standing around a certain contact spamming LFT for a specific mission for 45 minutes to an hour.I rarely form my own teams (though I have no issue with doing so if I wanted to) and have literally never waited for more than 20-30 mintes, let alone "hours", on any server that I have a presence on. (Every formerly-NA server.) Hyperbole isn't good to utilize as an argument.
Another time I've watched half a dozen "Stand and Spam" LFTer's whining to each other about how the server sucked because no one was running DfB's.
Before Freedom they'd SaS in AP for MA farms, and before that they'd SaS in PI.
And every three to four months someone comes to the forums and complains how such and such server is dead, or suggests the servers be merged because they "can't" find teams.
So I have to disagree about hyperbole being used. Of course it is possible that the people making those complaints are exaggerating about how hard it is for them to find teams, but if we say that to them then we are the big bad internet bullies. -
Quote:Just goes to show everyone has different preferences. Personally I like that they only open when flying. That being said if the wings are bugged then I hope it is fixed quickly even tho I like them this way.A small but annoying issue with the new Mecha wings.
They open up fine when you fly, but unlike all of the other wings, they don't open/unfold when you superleap. I usually get around by SJ with my characters and I enjoy the look of open wings when you jump.
I really like the new wings, it's kind of disappointing to see them sit there in passive when I jump a mile. I suspect this is a minor bug, I'd love to see it fixed -
C'mon Seven . . .
Daddy needs a Retro Sci-Fi Pack. -
Thanks for that info. I didn't know the current "owner" could do that. Of course the last time I looked at SG listings was years ago and I only recall paying attention to SG name and prestige earned.
-
Quote:I wouldn't go that far. I wouldn't mind if they'd stop complaining tho. It's perfectly alright to not want to to be the leader, but standing in one spot spamming LFT doesn't mean the server is dead or should be merged. They can be soloing while they are looking for teams.Unfortunately, these types of people infest MMO's. I wish they would drop the game.
It's like watching water boil. If you stare at it, it seems to take forever, but if you keep busy it's boiling in the blink of an eye. -
Good luck with both getting the armor via petition (I agree you should be able to get it) and with hearing a success story, tho I don't expect many people if any tried to get it at the last minute. I think it's far more likely that they decided that they could wait for the devs to release it later like they promised. It's not going away permanently.

Quote:I respect that, but you wouldn't fall into the player category I'm referring to. You don't seem the type to wait for other people to take the initiative and simply follow along mashing buttons. Nor do you seem the type to complain because no one is leading you around by the hand, when you are perfectly capable of doing it for yourself.I respectfully disagree with your disagreement. The last thing I want is the responsibility of everyones happiness. I can count on one hand how many times
I have seen someone extolling the virtues of a team leader on the boards, and even if I found myself with double the digits, I wouldn't have enough for the amount of times I have seen posts lambasting inept leadership.
My leadership days ended when my friends list went grey 5 years ago. Leading pugs has no appeal to me at all.
I'm talking about a very specific and sometimes vocal group. It may not be a large group, but (generic) you always know where to find them, so it seems like there is more of them than there actually is. -
Quote:Is it any wonder with the vehement bile about the latest trial in some other threads (and apparently on some server global channels)? I am sure they are typically afraid of having 20 people mad at them for leading a failed trial.
MMO gamers are some the most fickle, hyperbole filled gamers I have seen in my 30+ years of gaming.
There are people that play this game with an emotional and intellectual makeup that forces them to blame everything about a team, good or bad, on the leader, or at least everyone else besides themselves...just like real life.
Too many of the MMO players I see treat the pixels on the creen like real life and therefore bring all the same emotion baggage with them on a team.
Personally, I and the people I play the game with laugh all the time at team wipes and failed attempts at things. Personally, I cannot understand why anyone would get worked up emotionally on a constant basis about pixels. I understand having a bad day or something making the game frustrating when anything would.
I have seen in more than one global channel a player decried as a bad leader simply because a Trial failed. Fear drives people and many fear the idea of being ostracized.
Just a morning rant brought to you by Caribou Coffee, brewed to perfection by my lovely wife.
I respectfully disagree. While what you describe does indeed happen, the type of behaviour I'm talking about has nothing to do with the actual content or it's success or failure. What I'm referring to has been prevalent for 8 years and has been seen for everything from radio missions to incarnate trials, old fashioned sewer runs, to trick or treating.
The real issue is they think recruiting, selecting the mission, setting the difficulty level is a chore that they avoid at all costs. We've all watched teams dissolve when the leader leaves and the sheep play "Hot Potato" with the star and quit to send LFT spam rather than accept leadership and recruit one more person or continue playing.
Whoops! I should have made a note I was adding an edit to this post. Seems I corrected what I wanted to say while MajorPrankster was responding and it didn't trugger the last edited message. Sorry about that Major. I meant to word my original post with this "While what you describe does indeed happen," but I was thinking faster than I typed and had to go back and add it. It does change the tone of my post to what I intended. -
Quote:Rewriting history is probably another reason the devs infrequently respond to threads in this section. Far too often people twist what the devs actually posted/said to fit their own agendas and then get angry and defensive when they get confronted with what was actually said.Quote:What's more it would seem ironic that things that have made it into the game over the recent years like power customization and proliferation for example, were often repeatedly dismissed and heckled when they were brought up in this part of the boards.Quote:Rewriting history is not your forte`. You should actually look at the history before making statements like that. Both were called - by the devs, I might add - a *lot* of work, especially when they were down to 15 people, and would take a lot of time. (I believe the redname comment was "Sure, we could rewrite everything and do that. Just don't expect anything else during that year.") When they got more people, both became possible.
Pointing out information from the devs, such as the above, is not "dismissing" or "heckling." Neither is criticizing, despite what some people may want to think. -
But . . . but . . . the angry mob is here with their torches and pitchforks, and they have the tar and feathers ready to go now.
<sigh>
Okay you heard the man people. It's too early for this. Can everbody reschedule overreacting for June 25th? -
Well we do have a portion of the player base that has such an aversion to the Star/Team Leader position that they literally have been seen standing in a circle at contacts/trainers for teams/tf's/trials spamming LFT for over an hour and then complaining that the server is dead and they can't find teams.
The only reason I mention this is because I'm expecting at least one of them to come in here and claim Bill is wrong. -
Quote:Okay I'm a little puzzled about this post.I found the SG. It's now a one-man SG for personal storage. I sent an e-mail to the guy, but I get the feeling he's inactive.
Thanks again for the resopnses regardless.
Correct me if I'm wrong but if he found the SG doesn't that mean he's a member of it on one of his characters? Otherwise how would he know this other person is the only other member and is using it for a solo SG, and that he's not been on that character for a while.
If he is still a member of the SG and that player is inactive all he has to do is wait for the auto demote/promote to activate and he'll get back control by simply being the most recently active player in the SG. -
It helps if you turn the sound off during the parts where the actors are talking.
-
-
So start using /ignore_spammer. That's what it's for. Of course no one wants to be the guy that files a petition so they choose to ignore that feature and expect the GM's to pick up the slack leaving them less time to help the players that actually have real problems that need solving.

Quote:They had a state completely cut off from the outside world, and iirc the barrier was a fair number of miles out. I fully admit that it depends on how far the barrier was from the islands, but as long as it was over 10 miles a tomahawk nuke would not have been overly excessive (as in, would be far enough to have any significant effect on the island).
Though you are correct, the outside world was out of the loop on severity, so I suppose they would not authorize such.
Not only that, but there is noone in the military who will go nuclear without authorization codes from the President, and the President won't go nuclear just because there's been no confirmation of hostilities. The President was probably swamped with all kinds of wild speculations and desperately seeking some kind of communication before starting a war with an obviously superior alien race.
But we'll never know because the movie didn't care about anything going on outside the shield.
That untouched aspect of the movie could have been handled a lot better. -
Quote:You know, Liam Neeson should have done more, seeing as A) His daughter was basically a captive of the aliens as far as he knew B) As we saw in Taken, he's pretty vengeful when his daughter's life is at stake, C) He has Jedi powers, D) He is also Zeus God of Thunder, and finally E) He could have RELEASED THE KRAKEN at any time.
Oh, and he's the guy who trained Batman.
So, yeah, Liam Neeson was kinda slacking off with the whole alien invasion thing.
Like it's his fault the movie wasn't written around his character.
