Who was explaining the naming policy? We were talking about how just because someone desires something doesn't mean that said desire will be fulfilled.
  2. For eye auras to work on beast heads they'll have to create entirely new eye auras that match up to where the eyes are on the beast heads.
  3. SuperMooch the Healbot. He wants to date your daughter because he figures he can advance his career by holding her coat at the door while she does all the work then share in the glory afterwards by claiming he was her teammate.

When he's not with your daughter he can be found outside Wentworth's/BM begging for spare influence from passing heroes/villains.

He's also proud of the fact that he's made it to security lever 41 and still has only 1 offensive power and no buffs/debuffs. He's a pure Healor.

Who said that Apple's activity should cause Orange to change his desire to make an Apple character? Orange can "desire" anything he wants. That doesn't mean he's gonna get his desire satisfied unless Apple frees up the name and it's not taken first by another player desiring the same name.

When it gets to that point I totally feel like I am not even playing my character.
I am just some mixture of god awful colors running around shooting at things.
I think there's a portion of the player base that picks god awful colors on purpose because they know it aggravates people and they can grief with it.

Thank god I can grief them back by cancelling the buffs.
  6. And you'd quickly find people 1 starring you and adding to to their ignore lists. A lot of players hate deliberately gimped healbots because they see them as a sign of an inept player that is of no use to a team.

I'll need clarification myself but I believe leadership falls to the most recently logged in character. I inherited the Red Star a couple of times on characters that weren't the next lowest rank, but merely the most recent character to log in.

Of course it's possible that was because the next lowest ranks from the Red Star were also over the Auto Demote timer.

This has never been a "free" game. Free accounts have always had restrictions. Before we were inundated with RMT spammers Free account could only play 7-14 days.

After the RMTers started abusing the free accounts more restrictions wre added

    Could not email other players
    Could not level past 14
    Limited to 50,000 inf
    Could not join global channels
Chatting restricted to /local, /hc (the Help channel), and /team
Could not invite players to team (but could join other players' teams)
    Could not join SuperGroups
Could not create Mission Architect arcs
Could not interact with Architect Entertainment Stations (but could be invited onto a team that was running MA missions)

Players have always had to pay something for unlmited access.

I don't mind there being pay items. They are a business. It's when pay items include things I would consider basic function (tells and access to most forums for example) that I have been turned off.
Take your complaint about that to the RMT sites that were using free accounts to abuse those features to the extent it became necessary to implement those restrictions.

I'd say that the fact you can join super groups, and that there is a desk that actually tells you a listing of super groups that is disabled would be a perfect example of crippleware. Is the feature necessary? No. Is it something people would pay for? Probably not. But it sure is annoying when that is the first thing people will point you to in order to research groups, because that is the feature in the game to do so.
That's the best you've got? Sorry dude, until (May 31st 2012) - 2 weeks ago, Free accounts couldn't join Super Groups so there was no reason for them to be able to access the SG registrar until they spent $5 bucks on the game.

Now that that has changed maybe the devs will reconsider lifting the restriction on the SG registrar. You could always make a suggestion in the suggestion forums to let them know your opinion.

To be honest I didn't follow Marvel that much as a kid. Back then my preferences were Sgt. Rock and the various war comics with Marvel being prefered over DC super hero comics if the war comics weren't available.

Actually back then I'd rather read a book over a DC comic if it wasn't Sgt Rock/War themed.

Sorry dude but you get what you pay for. Oh and no one buys that "crippleware" argument. If a person isn't willing to upgrade his account to premium now, he has even less motivation to spend money if he's given even more stuff for free.

This weekend I tried Shroud, and it was taken. Bloody Shroud, however, was not, so a new dark/dark blaster got to start patrolling Atlas Park.

In all fairness, though, I sometimes wonder if the solution isn't so much 'be more creative' as 'try another server'. I'd lay good odds that something like my Shattered Mirror is taken on Freedom and/or Virtue. But on Pinnacle, my stomping ground, there are fewer players, and therefore more names available.
Yeah but then you have those server fanatics that believe there is only One Server and they shalt not have any characters on any other servers.

Or to put it another way

One Server to rule them all, One Server to find them,
One Server to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

How so? I just click on the name in the chat box and send him an invite. How the name is spelled isn't relevant.

I don't think NCSoft is attempting to make sure I am the only person that gets to play with my names until I die, I think NCSoft is attempting to make sure no confusion arises between two different character names and all other players that could confuse the two.
Oh I agree with you, I'm just suggesting a possible explanation as to where the confusion might be stemming from.

Which is exactly happened to the EU players when the server lists got merged. Their global names were changed against their wills regardless of the fact that many of those affected had those names for 7 years.

And the ironic thing about this discussion is that both sides are arguing that they don't want to change the name they've "chosen" for their characters.

Side A wants a specific name and doesn't want to change or modify it to something else because someone got it first.

Side B already has a specific name and doesn't want to change or modify it because someone else wants to use it as well.

It's the same argument. "Don't force me to change my characters names."

As far as the game is concerned both copyright and trademarks fall under the companies copyright policy and people that aren't familiar with the intricacies of the actual laws are probably lumping both together like the company policy does.

Also, apple is level 10 and hasn't played since 2004, is it really fair for him to stop orange from calling himself apple? And why would apple really care, anyway, if someone he'll never meet is also called apple (instead of apple., or appIe).

    Apple shouldn't be so petty.
I really don't have an objection to a name purge, but I will question what I think is a weak argument to justify it because I want them to make the best case possible to convince the devs to change their minds.

Actually Stars had to be the most creative cuz there's so many of them, and they've been around longer than rocks. But even there you have gold farming stars with names like CD-52°914, or BD38° 3238 which spam RHT (Real Hydrogen Transfers) thruout the universe with offers to sell in game currency for Hydrogen.

I get that one too. See rocks were around longer than fish, so they got the name first, and fish had to wait until they died and turned into rocks but by the time that happened they had to settle for Fossils.

I get it. Apples and oranges are both examples of fruit but you can't call an orange an apple because apples got the name first.

    Channel Increase

Because the more channels you are a member of the easier it is to find people team/socialize with.

And no it doesn't clog up your chat windows any more than the current number of ingame channels do, because we have the ability to edit our chat windows and get rid of the crap we don't want to look at. The only channel we can't avoid is the Admin channel.
