Quote:Put in the incarnate version of them in
There are incarnate Trolls, I think the Tsoo in DA are incarnate if not then they are level 50.
I think they only group we need are Valz, Hellions, and Skulls.
Hellions and Skull something like this http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=208547
Valz, well I hate them nice replace them with something nice =P
EDIT: Better yet, just have them spawn random villains depending on your level, if that can be done.
Not gonna happen. Incarnate content is restricted to VIP accounts only. The devs aren't going to add content to radio/newspaper missions that Free/Prem players can't run. -
Quote:And they still had nothing to do with the novel except the title and character names. You people are aware that the Starship Troopers films were anti-war satires right? (Okay, well maybe not the second; they really screwed the pooch on that one.) I actually found them rather endearing, entertaining and highly underrated.
They (with the unfortunate exception of the second) were not meant to be taken with a straight face. They actually were a brilliant commentary on our society's appetite for meaningless wars, brainless propaganda and intolerance of anything that challenges the status quo.
I still enjoyed the movies, not so much the second, but they weren't Heinlein's Starship Trooper's, and you can't reboot something that was never made in the first place. -
Quote:It's also evidence that for the past 8 years marketing hasn't been getting the word out to people that this game still exists. The advertising for this game over the years has been practically nonexistant. Anyone who says otherwise is deluding themselves. Those comments mentioned about "this game is still going?" is someone inquiring about the game that wouldn't have otherwise said anything about it. It's good to get out of your comfort zone once in a while.
There's no argument Marketing/PR did a fantastic job this time, but that doesn't make up for 8 years of silence. Only time will tell if this was a fluke or if they can turn this one success into a string of successes. -
Not picking on Marketing/PR but the comments at that site say it all.
Wow... this game is still going?
This game still exists?
Didn't know this game was still around.
So what was Marketing/PR doing for the past 8 years? -
Maybe there's an issue with your graphics card not being able to handle the live ingame settings as opposed to the fairly static costume creator that doesn't have all that extra background stuff going on.
Are your drivers updated? Maybe play with the graphic settings raising or lowering them. -
Quote:Of course some random guy saying that on an internet forum has about as much weight as Forbin_Project claiming to be ex-CIA and have seen evidence of an alien squirrel invasion.
Me my first day at the Agency.
Me spying on the alien squirrels.
Me investigating the Alien Squirrels secret Moon Base.
Me in disguise and infiltrating one of their training camps
Me taking pictures of one of the Alien Squirrel terrorist training camps.
Proof of the Alien Squirrel threat.
Me leading a USMC strike team to attack the mutant alien squirrel invaders.
We were shocked at how large the mutant alien squirrels were but we still kicked their butts off Earth! -
Quote:I hope you didn't misunderstand. I'm not suggesting that they give us the old stuff instead of your idea. They can give us both. The old missions are still there because I have characters that are still doing the old origin mission arcs.Well, true, turning those missions back on would be simpler...
What that whole message above really amounts to is just "create a random mission pool for the FBSA contacts" and then building up on that idea to turn it into a third, FBSA-themed mission track alongside the radios and tips. All the other details (such as linking it up with the radio missions) is just an idea on how to get there faster. If they get their own sets of missions right from the start, that's even better.
We can have our cake and eat it too. -
Quote:Controlling bugs sounds innocent and harmless? Sounds more like a potential "Willard" horror movie to me. A nerdy teenage girl with the ability to terrorize and or kill her "enemies" by controlling insects. I can just see the popular girls that picked on her dying off one by one from attack by bees, roaches, ants, spiders, etc.Worm is the story of Taylor Hebert, a teenage girl with a gift. She can control bugs. Sounds innocent and harmless enough, I'm sure.

What like? Maybe Radioisotope thermoelectric generator? Or nuclear/atomic engines?

Quote:I have a couple of characters that do exactly that. I turned off my XP and park them in the zone they are protecting thus never outleveling the content.Forbin, two thoughts on that:
1. Since this sort of thing is mostly for concept anyway (as we've established that those who just want to PL have other options that are, if anything, even more convenient), what about the hero who doesn't want to leave "his" neighborhood? What if X wants to be a hero of Kings Row, or Steel, or Talos?
Quote:2. Haven't we gotten past the mid-2000s MMO design idea that "enforced travel time = content, or at least extended gameplay"? -

Quote:Okay had to go back and reread the thread to see what I missed, and I'll support a modification to the radio/newspaper missions if they set the missions themselves in level appropriate zones. You're correct in that, sure: the way it currently works does force players to move to other areas once they pass a certain threshold. Can't there be a potential to have that same movement within the radio missions themselves?
Example: A level 15 player is within the range of both Skyway City and Steel Canyon, so the police radio could theoretically give mission options for both zones. He starts in Skyway and does a mission there, and then opens the scanner again: this time there's two Skyway missions and one for Steel. Every time he does a mission for his current zone, the chance for more missions to appear for a different (level-appropriate?) zone increases until all three options are of the second zone.
Follow? It's probably too complex to implement, but it's an idea.
In terms of following radios in lower level zones, I again state that players can already do par-level tips in any zone that allows them to be investigated. I've been on a Lv50 RP tip team running in Atlas and Kings Row, and as I also mentioned, we already call them off as police scanner information. While I'd be fine with taking penalty to have a high level character run radio missions in a low level zone, how fair is it when something similar can already be done... with a bonus tacked on?
So a player on a level 50 in Kings Row could get a mission from his scanner that sends him to Peregrine Island to do the mission. And in the case where there are zones where levels overlap the missions could be for any of those particular zones. -
Sounds like a lot of work. Until that's ready just give us back our old starter zone origin story arcs from Galay and Atlas Park.

Quote:There's two ways this could go. One is like Kheldians which is unsatisfactory because we end up with too many powers and a shortage of slots. It also limits what powers can be used in the new form because a new skeleton has to be created and custom powers that can only be used by that skeleton. The biggest problem, the way I see it, is costume lock-out. You would be continually forced to change into something else to take advantage of your powers. If done right, this could be cool... but some will hate that fact no matter what. I mean folks don't like Granite Armor and Khelds for that reason, and Ice gets a lot of ire as well for obscuring costume details.
Also, they're means "they are," their means "belonging to them" and there refers to a particular place. Just aminor annoyance while trying to read your posts.
The second is the one you describe, while it will have people complaining about the changes to their costumes, offers far more flexibility as it uses existing skeletons and can be combined with vastly more existing powersets. And let's be honest, the complaints about costume changes can be ignored because the devs can include "Minimal FX" as a power customization option which nullifys any costume changes. (which is exactly what they did with the new Bio Armor) -
Quote:Not a problem, this is what I said.Which was that, again?
Seriously, I do get lost in post slurry from time to time. Silly forums.
By the simple game mechanic of requiring people to change zones to get level appropriate radio/newspaper missions new players cannot help but learn more about what's unique in each zone, where the landmarks are, and where to find specific NPC groups. -
Quote:Semantics doesn't enter into it.The new play style would be for it to work in (most) any zone.
New 'backdrop' to missions is the new style.
I know you LOVE to nitpick semantics to death. Go right ahead. This is a fine idea and it does not, in any way, prevent an existing system from working, it only adds a new flavor.
I stand by the sentiment that anyone against this is simply change averse or wants people to play the game their way.
I voiced an opinion and backed it up with a sound argument which hasn't been refuted by you.
You on the other hand have said nothing more than you want what you want because you want it, and implied anyone that disagrees is being a bully and dismiss anything they say.
But please do continue, your responses are amusing. -
Wrong. There is no "new playstyle" being suggested or denied. People are free to focus solely on radio/newspaper missions if they like regardless of whether or not the OP's idea get implemented. Changing zones to get level appropriate missions isn't preventing people from leveling from 1-50 doing only Radio/safeguard missions.

Quote:It was Power that first suggested all zones be allowed and Quarrios that first specified Atlas Park. And tho I didn't quote them it was their caveats that prompted me to object and state my preference for the current system that gives new players the experience of exploring different zones as they respond to the radio/newspaper missions as well as learn where to find various NPC group's spawn.Well remember...you cannot get a Police Radio in Atlas Park. So for people to even use this suggested feature in Atlas Park...they would have to travel out of Atlas Park to even get the Police Radio needed to utilize this feature.
That being said...I will admit my ignorance...I didn't know you could get Radio missions in Atlas Park at all. -
Quote:As opposed to how the people agreeing with the idea are just trying to "make others play their way."I think it is a fine idea.
IMO, anyone that is against it is simply trying to make others play 'their way' and they can go right ahead and...disagree. Adding this as an option in no way stops them from getting radios where they prefer, IMO.
That argument works both ways. -
Quote:Its a pain, yes, but as others have said, its (mostly) due to the way local laws come into play.
If you offer a promotion (online, TV, mail, telephone, etc), you're responsible for making sure that it is legal in every place it runs. Different regions have different rules. Usually, they're intended to protect consumers from predatory "promotions" and/or gambling laws, etc. Some places do it to protect local businesses- prohibiting "foreign entities" from offering such promotions without having a local presence. Some just do it to rake in fees for doing business in their country.
Regardless, it all means "we need lawyers." Worse "we need lawyers fluent in each nation's laws that we want to run x in." .... and since this is a promotion, not something that'll make a lot of money, "we need em cheap."
Can't we just burn all the lawyers at the stake? They're probably the ones that came up with those laws in the first place.
