  1. It was my understanding the price was set at $9.99 to discourage mass transfers yet still be affordable for those people that really want to change servers. This idea would defeat that purpose.

    /unsigned.

Try creating some new characters. That's what those unused character slots are for.

You're right, lets get right on the maps for the somalie pirates. Not gonna be able to fit many mobs on a boat the size of a large row boat though.

    Are you kidding?

    Somalie pirates.

Somalia. That desert country where everyone is starving?

All ten million of them could fit into a rowboat.

The lag would be awful though.

True but the Melee AT's would love having a mob that size in one tiny spot.

About three-quarters of your post is irrelevant to the topic and shows no research beyond Wikipedia to boot (failing to check even the sources Wiki cites, as I suggested).

And you'd be wrong. I used to have 4 accounts and now I'm down to two. Why? Because I was able to buy extra character slots on my main account and recreate the 20 characters I had on those two accounts on my main account. If they allowed us 48 slots I'd have cancelled all three extra accounts.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So in other words, you have already shut down two accounts, and even if you could transfer your characters between the two you have, it wouldn't help any because they're both completely full.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sorry Jack but your math is incorrect. My home servers on both accounts are not both full. I'll explain:

You aren't privy to the fact that since I closed my other two accounts (a year ago) I have made several server transfers off of my home server on my main account. 2 characters to Protector to join a Celtic themed SG. 1 to Freedom to replace a character I moved from Freedom to Protector to join the same Celtic SG. The alt I moved to Freedom took over an SG I inherited but don't play much. I also moved a fourth character from my home server to Triumph because I wanted a high level alt there in case of an unexpected server lockout. I like to be prepared if something happens like an event causes the pop cap to grey out my server of choice, or a maintenence issue crops up and causes one or several servers to crash.

If you check your numbers you'll see I told you I have only used 32 of the 36 slots that we now have available (The 20 from the two accounts I closed plus the 12 on my main account). Add to that the 4 slots I opened up over the past year with server transfers, that gives me 8 available slots that I could put alts into from another account.

Now on my second account I used 5 of the 12 slots to make support SG's that were nothing more than bases with teleport beacons. I used the two accounts to get 15 alts together to grab the 300k startup prestige and built 5 bases that each contain 4 teleport beacons, which I put in coalition with my main accounts SG's. After I13's base rent changes those bases are now unnecessary. Those 5 alts can be deleted (I'm considering selling those SG's). That leaves me with 7 characters on my home servers second account.

So I have 8 slots available and only 7 characters that would need to be transferred, that leaves me with one slot to spare. As to all the other characters on my second account, I'd simply do a spring cleaning. It's always a good idea to go thru your alts every once in a while to check whats being used and what isn't. Then delete the chaff you know you'll never get around to playing and free up the slots. Anything I decide to keep could be remade on my main account.

Hey, man, if that's your standard for excellence, keep on keepin' on!

(Before you take Wiki's word on "most effective treatment" -- a statement not endorsed by the APA -- y'might wanna read the rest of the article, like the parts where it contradicts itself. "ECT on its own does not usually have a sustained benefit - virtually all those who remit end up relapsing within 6 months following a course, even when given a placebo." And y'might want to check out the sample size and distribution... as well as what the article actually says... on the citation they give for that line. But that's more a general "caution, Wiki-users" line than anything related to the OT.)

    Edit: Oh yeah.

And with this lesson on proper Wiki-use concluded

What lesson are you talking about? The one that shows that the Wiki article proves that there are at least two schools of thought on the subject. One side that feels that the treatment is useful and another that doesn't.

It was whimsically suggested to be used as a tool to apply negative reinforcement in order to discourage a particular behaviour. When used as negative reinforcement it can be very effective as a deterrant.

Don't believe me then go place your hand on a hot stove, or stick your finger into an electric outlet. Why do you hesitate? Oh you say you don't want to get hurt. Guess what that means the negative reinforcement worked. Pain teaches you not to do things.

Now that we all acknowledge electroshocks usefulness, we can also admit that in this situation it would be at best impractical.

    [ QUOTE ]
I'd like to further add that account transfers would not likely lose NCSoft any money. People who keep multiple accounts active usually do so for benefits above and beyond the additional character slots; it seems unlikely they'd cancel an account and lose those benefits now that so many more character slots are available, if they haven't already.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And you'd be wrong. I used to have 4 accounts and now I'm down to two. Why? Because I was able to buy extra character slots on my main account and recreate the 20 characters I had on those two accounts on my main account. If they allowed us 48 slots I'd have cancelled all three extra accounts.

Nobody needs extra accounts anymore. We make inf hand over fist thanks to IO salvage and recipes. Any character can be a millionare by level ten with only the slightest effort so using a second account to transfer things between your own characters is only needed by lazy people.

The only thing that can't be done with just a single account is inviting your own characters to an SG.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm sorry to disagree with you but that is only your opinion. I'll take the word of the American Psychiatric Association and the British National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), also known as electroshock, is a well established, albeit controversial psychiatric treatment in which seizures are electrically induced in anesthetized patients for therapeutic effect. Today, ECT is most often used as a treatment for severe major depression which has not responded to other treatment, and is also used in the treatment of mania (often in bipolar disorder), catatonia, schizophrenia and other disorders.

It was first introduced in the 1930s and gained widespread use as a form of treatment in the 1940s and 1950s; today, an estimated 1 million people worldwide receive ECT every year, usually in a course of 6-12 treatments administered 2 or 3 times a week. Electroconvulsive therapy can differ in its application in three ways; electrode placement, length of time that the stimulus is given, and the property of the stimulus. The variance of these three forms of application have significant differences in both adverse side effects and positive outcomes.

In a study, ECT was shown clinically to be the most effective treatment for severe depression, and to result in improved quality of life in both short- and long-term. After treatment, drug therapy can be continued, and some patients receive continuation/maintenance ECT.

The American Psychiatric Association and the British National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence have concluded that the procedure does not cause brain damage in adults. Certain types of ECT have been shown to cause persistent memory loss, whereas confusion usually clears within hours of treatment. Informed consent is a standard of modern electroconvulsive therapy. Involuntary treatment is uncommon in countries that follow contemporary standards and is typically only used when the use of ECT is believed to be potentially life saving.

I can see where you are coming from and I'm sure that a number of people would have the same suspicions.

Based on some of the numbers I've seen in this thread....
    $300 divided by ($15/month)=20 months.
$250 divided by ($15/mo.)= almost 17 Months worth.
    $200 divided by ($15/mo.)= under 14 months.
At those prices, I would have to either see myself playing for well over those timeframes or have a guarantee that I will get something of at least that high of a value to me in return.

The Lifetime membership would have to come with something else as well. If they were planning a CoH2 and threw in a year of that when it comes out?
Send me a free decent-sized monitor? Heck, I've already paid almost 5 years....*grabs calculator* My $900 could have gotten me something nice.
    Maybe a T-shirt and a keyboard?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah! Now that I would jump on. If they released a CoH2 and offered a lifetime membership to CoH1 with the creation of a new account in CoH2 for $x.xx dollars. That I would buy, no problem.

I hate to break your bubble but the game store I used to frequent before I moved two years ago had several teens with credit cards. Either like the ones advertised in that link, prepaid cards, or bank atm Visa's.

These kids weren't all just from the same neighborhood either. That store was the only one around and kids came in from as far as 20 miles away.

The older kids would drive, while the parents of some of the younger ones would drop them off for the day. When the store ran overnight lockins you'd see parents leave kids there almost the whole weekend.

Now I'll admit in some parts of the US this may not be the case, but I think the closer you get to the big cities the more frequently you'll run into it, especially on the East and West coasts.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'll take "several teens from different neighborhoods". What would that be...one in twenty households? One in fifty?

Now how many of that group play this game?

We are talking about a pretty small group of people here. (And if "teens" means an 18 year old...they are probably better players than me. ) So I would hate for something useful to get flushed out of the idea bin because of some minute group of souls who may show up with Sands of Mu "unearned".

    [/ QUOTE ]

At that time (2- 2 1/2 years ago) most of us played. The store had 20 computers in a network for playing online games and CoH was very popular. Getting a computer was first come first served. Monday - Wednesdays were the only slow nights when you could show up and expect to find an open computer.

The store also had 3 private rooms for RPG's, 2 tables for miniatures, 3 tables for playing CCG'S, and a lounge set up with a DDR machine. Thursday thru Sunday the store usually had 50 - 75 people doing various things. Rest of the week 10 - 20.

During the lockins we'd show up on a friday night and play straight thru till sunday afternoon.

Today I couldn't say how many have them. Last time I drove back there was when an old friend was hospitalized just over a year ago.

I can see that being done in RP SG's where they treat alts as seperate from their owners accounts.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And just to give credence to this statement: yes, I do it. My Mastermind, Cap'n Geist, is in a VG owned by one of my other characters, and Geist doesn't have leader permission because, in character, he's just not that important.

Another reason I do the same thing is because it gives people the impression there are a lot more leaders than there actually are, and that very few of them are ever on at the same time.

Wanna bet? You may not have noticed but there are several companies out there that are issuing credit cards to kids.

    Credit cards for kids

These companies have to be making money off of this idea or they'd never do it. So it's very possible your typical 12 year old will have the means to buy characters.

We definitely need an option to change the color for Occult and Renegade hats from the Magic Booster Pack. Having red hair because you want a red band on the hat looks ridiculous, specially for something in a paid pack. Plus these are the only hats that are like this.

Mystic Fortune brings up a popup asking whether you accept or decline the Fortune buff when it's cast on you, much like rez powers do. I'd like to see an option to always pick the same answer, rather than having to hit the button every time. I know I personally will always be hitting accept, and I'm certain there are people who would always decline the buff. Allowing people who always have the same answer to not have to select the answer would be lovely, and not disruptive should someone cast Mystic Fortune while in combat.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is also a nice idea, which we already have in the game as an option for teleports.

It is also a feature that has been requested for all buffs many times over the years. If they can code a decline for this power they can add it to all buffs.

    1. This opens the door for people to sell characters. A large portion of our playerbase uses time cards and there's no way to confirm that those accounts are being paid for by the same person.

    2. Vet badges are awarded based on account activity. Allowing account transfers would mean characters with many vet rewards could be transferred to accounts that didn't earn the rewards, and vice versa.

    3. Booster packs and new game editions are applied to individual accounts. Account transfers would allow people to get access to special items from one account onto accounts they didn't buy the codes for.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Ehh...I'm sorta tired of everything being decided by what a minority of exploiters would do. There are a bunch of us that would use it in a positive way....we should count too. If a few buy a lvl 50 I don't see how that changes anything for me. (Yeah...big friggin difference from what we have now.) And a teammate with Recall Team who didn't "earn it" won't bother me in the slightest.

Now me personally...not sure I would ever use it. I've got 3 accounts...one is used by my nephew. The other two accounts are fine the way they are. Both were started within a month of each other so the vet reward stuff is equal. I actually LIKE having the ability to pass things back and forth between alts (even SG promotions/invites) so I certainly would never go down to one account. I have one character on the 3rd account that could potentially be moved to one of the two "mains"...but that's it.

...After thinking about it for a sec I realized I WOULD use it. ...But in a reverse way from the "exploits" listed above. There are a couple of characters that I would move to the 3rd account. One that my brother used to play on the 2nd account and one my nephew started on the 2nd account. Both are never played by me but my poor nephew is always complaining that he can't play them any more because I'm always on when he wants to play. Those characters would have to give up the vet stuff though...the 3rd account is about 2 years younger.

    [/ QUOTE ]

maybe I'm just cynical, but I honestly feel there are more people that would try to take advantage of this idea than people like you and I that would gladly give up things to be able to give characters to your nephew.

Oh and that reminds me of another flaw. Epic AT's are unlocked when an account earns it's first 50. Meaning a player leveled a character from 1 to 50 on that particular account. What happens when a person gets a character from another account that he/she didn't get up to level 50.

Also Epic AT's could be transferred to accounts where the player never earned the right to play one.
  19. If they could work it sio you could only access what you had permission to use, maybe.

But there's also the SG's that grant leaders personal storage space. Those bins may be in a hard to access spot but have lower permissions set because that person has an alt with lower rank in the SG.

I can see that being done in RP SG's where they treat alts as seperate from their owners accounts.

    Yes you can.

An SG leader invites you to his/her SG and gives you temporary permission to decorate his/her base, then you click Add Personal Items and place whatever base item vet rewards you agreed to give him. Once those items are placed in the base the SG's base architect can move them and place them wherever they want.

I've helped dozens of people decorate their bases this way.
