That said, I don't disagree with you as far as updating older content. They've shown they're willing to do so with zones (see the RCS to RWZ, and Faultline, with a touch of the Hollows - though the content didn't change,) and even remove content (Calvin Scott.)

Posted on the EU forums from an online discussion with Positron.

    * On new content:
04-28-2009 18:06:36 [Local] Golden Girl1: Positron, are there any plans to give older zones a Faultline-style makeover, like Boomtown, for example, or would you rather add new zones to the game first?
Gen. Pansington: Positron, are there any plans on reworking the shadow shard tfs? noone ever playes them anymore
04-28-2009 18:06:53 [Local] Positron: Right now, we'd rather add zones
04-28-2009 18:07:04 [Local] Positron: since a revamp takes almost as much time.

NP, I'd like my post on this subject to be clear and concise, and not get bogged down because I mis-remembered something or seem like I'm accusing the Dev's of anything.

(I'm not accusing the Dev's of anything, just saying that this is a chance they shouldn't lose!)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks as well for making your correction.

I was just pointing out that Posi has said we are getting some of the very things the OP was asking for as early as I15, and from what I understand I15 will be released very soon.
  3. <off topic>

Has everyone noticed they fixed the SG Emblems in the bases yet? All my blank tiles and windows now have stupid diamonds in them.
  4. Please provide links to where the devs made promises of a moonbase, mars, Rikti homeworld, and power customization.

While those things do get asked for often I know of no promises that we will ever see them.

As to new content, we get new stuff every issue. I15 is right around the corner.

Positron has already said that now that they have given us the MA they are going to be working on new TF's. I15 will have 2 one for each faction.

He also said new powersets are coming.

    Storage Bins

We would all like to have more storage space for IO salvage, but the devs have a thing about minimizing the amount of salvage we can hoard.

As to the second, while I can understand your desire, personally I prefer only seeing what I actually have in my bins.

Now I'd like this idea if it were a part of the crafting tables. So if I wanted to make something, the table would look in the bins and tell me what I was missing.

On the down side there are many SG's out there that give their leaders personal bins for them to use as extra storage, and no one but them has access.

So I can easily foresee situations where one SG member is getting frustrated because the stuff he needs is showing up as being in storage but he can't find the bin it's in or he doesn't have permission to remove it from the bin in question.

  14. It also doesn't take a high school diploma to figure out you can't breathe underwater.

What does a high school education have to do with the fact that a new player to this game isn't going to automatically know what the colors next to the servers mean.

And the colors mean server load not population. If a server starts having technical issues, it will shoot to the top or the bottom of the list and the colors will change, depending on its current load, regardless of how many or how few players are connected to it

Edit: Damn Justaris beat me to it. Curses! Foiled again!

    Anyway...
Which zones, both Red and Blue side would you suggest?
Would you add a new zone on each side for the buildings to move to or just shuffle the AE'ers into the other, existing crowded buildings?

Or some PocketD-esque situation so that Broadcast within the AE doesn't spill into the zone, but instead throughout the other AE buildings for that faction?

    Honestly, you're overthinking it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

While you are probably right, it's also the kind of thing that criminals would look for, because the average person would assume no one would think of using RMT for such nefarious purposes.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
But the fraud you supplied was income from thier WoW arm of the operations.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just to comment on this. If you think about it it makes perfect sense to operate that way. If they were to use a CoH players credit card to open CoH accounts it would be much easier for NCSoft to figure out which of their customers are using RMT sites.

WoW isn't going to share it's customers billing info with NCSoft, so the RMT sites can safely use peter to pay paul. The only risk they are running aside from the fraud is the chance that the WoW player is playing both games and using the same card to pay for both.

Also remember that the RMTers can draw from around 30 different MMO's so the odds that any given player has accounts on the same games is vanishingly small, and that's only if the RMT site used the customers card to make the transactions.

I think it's much more likely they are using things like cash advances and the like to steal the money first, then after it's untracable using it to advertise and keep farm accounts and mule accounts active.

And let's also consider how hard it would be for the devs to prove an influence trade is an RMT transaction.

For example off the top of my head:

Joe Smith places an order for Inf at Bobs Dsicount Gold. He gives them his email to confirm the transaction. They send him a response that says, "Meet us under the Statue in Atlas Park in ten minutes and enter the Costume Contest. You will be the winner and we will give you your Inf as the prize."

You get your influence and they toss out a few million to other contestants to make sure it looks legit. NCSoft can't prove that Joe did anything wrong.
  19. The problem I see is that until the RMT sites have their funds from illegal transactions cut off, there's no real way for them to lose money.

Another thing to consider is that we don't know the depth of the RMT's illegal activities. It's theoretically possible that some shady organization is using many of these RMT transactions to launder money for other illegal activities. All those small transactions add up into large sums of money. Like embezzling half cents from many accounts.

I just don't believe that RMT is the only thing going on with those guys. There has to be more sinister things happening that we never see.

As much as I like the changes to the game, things were much more peaceful RMT-wise pre-I9.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
If they are targeting other MMO's, (which they appear to be) wouldn't they shift thier focus away from this one if it started becoming unprofitable?

Business that continue to throw money into unprofitable divisions, rather than close that branch (or model line or product) tend to do poorly.

I'm just throwing this out there, but if there were no players buying thier product, they wouldn't be here. The spamming is a problem, but it's more like a symptom of a problem.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Legitimate businesses work that way. RMT companies are far from legitimate.

    For example:

Let's say you play WoW, and you used your credit card to buy gold from Bob's Discount Gold RMT website. They in turn use your credit card to get $500 cash advance, and then open 25 CoH accounts and proceed to spam advertisements for their website. Those accounts eventually all get banned, but 15 CoH players decided to buy influence from them after seeing their advertisements.

Now where exactly did Bob's Discount Gold lose money?

Seems to me the only person that lost anything was the guy that had his credit card number stolen.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
The spammers' next path of least resistance is to start buying full accounts to spam with, and the cost of doing so is still trivial, even discounting the possibility of stolen accounts and credit card numbers being used.

Besides, the spammers can mitigate this by targeting offline players; this will buy them a few hours of spam-time on average by cutting down on the likelihood of a recipient hitting the Spam button as soon as the email is sent. I thought of that cost-cutting measure in ten seconds; imagine what people who do this all day will come up with.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Another factor to consider is that this isn't the only game being targeted. Any money they spend here to send us spam is more than compensated for by the 30 other MMO's they are also targeting.

The only thing NCSoft can do is work at blocking each new method to spam us as the RMT sites develop new tactics.
  22. I have seen threads remain quite polite despite their being hot topics. Quite recently in fact. However the hostile tone the OP set in this thread only confirmed any assumptions people may have had coming into this thread and then they may have felt justified responding in kind.

Of course there is always a small group that are antagonistic right out of the gate.

Maybe if there was an indication on the login server list that told people that the first server listed was the last one they logged onto and the rest of the servers are listed by population lowest to the highest. Then they could make an informed choice.

(and personally, when I do go out for fast food, I get my fries from McDonalds, my burgers from Burger King, and my chili and milkshakes from Wendy's. All three stores are in the same strip mall near my home.)
  23. That's not always effective tho Rachel. Those companies use credit card fraud and a host of other illegal methods to pay for accounts.

NCSoft won't even accept credit cards from South America because the fraud is so rampant there. Our players from South of the border have to use a third party company to pay for their accounts and make purchases from the online store.

Trying to stop RMT spam will always be a game of catch up. as the company tries to block their next work around.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
The OP had a legitimate concern and suggestion. It may not be the best idea or the most thoroughly thought through, but shooting him down like you all did was lame.

I do think some servers are far too small in population, but there are too many difficulties in taking other servers down.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The OP didn't draw any fire until HE started acting like a jerk in his second post.

And as was pointed out numerous times theres a simple solution to his legitimate concern. He has the choice of playing on a server with a larger population.

If you like your hamburger flame broiled you don't insist that Wendy's and McDonald's merge. You take your butt to Burger King.
