I didn't say ANYTHING about REPLACING the current racks ..

    I didn't say you did.

this is a improved setup ... like a supercomputer is a uber mainframe. And I also did say *it would be nice* if this advanced system held a little more .. you will note I didn't ask for uber storage either.

I also didn't say you asked for uber storage. What I said was this:

    [ QUOTE ]
As to increasing the amount of storage allowed for salvage mentioned by others, I would like to see that happen but I'm not optomistic we'll see the devs do it.

The part of your idea I was addressing was this:

    [ QUOTE ]
It could be an auxiliary device that attaches to an "advanced invention table" so you can pull items from racks (dunno if thats even possible)

    [/ QUOTE ]

A device that can draw salvage from any rack defeats the purpose of the security measures. Even if the device checked a players permissions many SG's have leaders with more than one alt in the SG and those characters aren't always the same rank as the main character.

The bins that SG leaders use in those cases are placed in locations where regular SG members don't go or can't get to unless they have access to the base architect. This allows the leaders to leave the bins permissions open so they can move items between their alts without involving a third party.

Used to be that if someone was a level 50, you could count on a certain level of skill and teamwork, because they had worked hard through all the zones, and knew what to do.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You have to define 'level of skill'. I don't die very often and when I do hit 50 it will have been through my skill and my hard work soloing, but any mechanic that may involve teaming I will have no experience in. However, I also avoid PUGs, always have in any MMO. When I have grouped, it is to Mal a new MM to teach them about bodyguarding or some tactic they aren't familiar with.

Skill is relative to an individual experience. I will only have had experience with one char at 50 so my overall knowledge of other classes will be next to nil.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Since the MA I've encountered lvl 50's that don't know how to slot enhancements or even where to get them.

I love Circle of thorns, for a variety of reasons not the least of which is easy xp and lots of arcane drops Now - I'm talking hero side. Villain side they have those horrible other creatures with the tongues, don't they? wth is that lol.

While I understand what you're trying to put across, I don't think it's really necessary. A Natural origin and good choices of powers can emulate a police type, pretty easily.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I thought that was the Hellions that had those creatures redside.
  7. Your suggesting a new AT but not putting any thought into it.

    What powersets will they have?

If these are new powersets what will the powers be?

You want a vehicle. Here's an edited cut and paste that explains the problem with vehicles.

    [ QUOTE ]
Vehicles as travel powers. This gets brought up a lot.

    Short answer, don't expect it.

    Long answer:
There are a lot of problems with the idea.

    1. Movement.

Forward and back, even turning - ok. But you can do things that a vehicle can't - such as strafe (direct side to side or angular movement.) It doesn't work with a vehicle. There are also issues such as drift and "realistic" handling. We can go side to side, as mentioned, and make immediate right angle turns. Cars... not so much.

    2. Movement, part 2.

Go stand in the road. No, not you personally. Take your character out and stand in the road, if you're heroside. Or even in the path of civilians. What happens? You get pushed. While not as big an issue with a motorcycle, perhaps, a car would have issues. What happens if two cars meet head on - yours and an NPC, or yours and another player's? Do you just pass through each other? Would you be satisfied with that very odd result? Or would you get stuck? How about those NPCs, can they walk and push your car, or are they walking through it? Neither answer is very satisfying, and intelligent, dynamic pathing is too computationally expensive.

    3. Terrain.

Not every place has roads, or even makes sense for "off roading." Go look at Founder's Falls. Go look at Crey's Folley. Or Eden. Try to get to the north islands in Talos. What, do you have a kubelwagen? Look at the Pit in Sharkshead. Try to use your travel power (car) to get up to some of the doorways in high caves. Cars and motorcycles would be more like Superspeed - horizontal movement, period. And look - I'll be blunt - flat out *stupid* tied with, say, Combat Jumping or Superjump.

    4. Combat.

You get ambushed on the way. How do you fight? Just have your powers blast out of the rolled up windows? How do you buff or debuff? EVERY power would need a new animation. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. Then you want people with motorcycles instead of cars. Redo ALL the animations AGAIN. And they still wouldn't make sense - how do you use Footstomp in a car? Or Stalagmites?

    5. Customizing.

Yeah, it would come up. Not everyone would want a sports car, or a mid-70s Buick boat, or an exotic, or a minivan, or whatever else.

    6. Making "sense."

This was touched on in terrain - how do you get across water? How about the Shadow Shard? And if you want downright ridiculous looking, go do the heroside 25-34 Respec. Look at the Sky Skiffs inside of rooms or the reactor room. It makes no sense and looks *ridiculous.* Something that, yes, the devs try to avoid.

That's just a quick overview of why vehicles as generally envisioned aren't a spectacular idea for a travel power.

    Further discussion

This I think merits a bit of extra commentary, honestly.

"Vehicles" covers a lot of different ground for different people. Some only consider cars/jets/motorcycles vehicles. Others add jetpacks, wings and the like. Much of the above considers cars and similar sized vehicles, with nods to motorcycle type vehicles.

Jetpacks and such, I don't see happening as travel powers. As costume options for Flight? Or as invented pieces that interact with Fly, similar to wings? Absolutely - but they don't need to be a separate travel power for that. I'm all for more jetpack and wing (or combination) designs. Besides, there are so many "temp" jetpacks, I don't see introducing yet another one as really being feasable - just my opinion.

But vehicles - cars, specifically - as a travel power, have issues.

    Thanks Memphis Bill

If you want people to take this idea seriously then put some effort into it and give a detailed explanation of what you are suggesting.

"I think playing a cop would be cool." doesn't cut it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Laugh at them, kick them while they are down, and then post about how much we hate newbies on the forums!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, because all bad players are newbies.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You do realize that there's a difference between a noob and a newb, right?

Contrary to the belief of many, a noob/n00b and a newbie/newb are not the same thing.

Newbs are those who are new to some task and are very beginner at it, possibly a little overconfident about it, but they are willing to learn and fix their errors to move out of that stage.

n00bs, on the other hand, know little and have no will to learn any more. They expect people to do the work for them and then expect to get praised about it.

In many cases it is the leaders that founded the SG and theirs to do with as they please.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If they are the founders then they'll have chosen a name they wanted in the first place, and there will be no need to change the name.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
    While not against it -

How would you handle making sure that it's actually something the SG (in general) agrees on, as opposed to just the super leader?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's simple. It doesn't matter what the SG members think, it's what the leader thinks. As leader, you already make decisions that your SG may not necessarily agree with. You decide who has what rights, who doesn't. This wouldn't be any different.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And this is why there should be a hefty fee for changing an SG name. I'm thinking $50.00 would be sufficient to make petty tyrants think twice before screwing over his SGmates.
  12. Yeah after a while ya get used to watching for the lower patterns bar to light up and let ya know theres more options available. It's easy to miss.

Nope - I have a character in Icon right now looking at her new cape with its High Collar and Short Cape - Arctic pattern.

Unless its a bug on the Male Cape? I can't check that, I don't have a Male character on the account that has the Arcane pack.

Oh and note, that they allow us to keep more than 30 per salvage rack. I am not sure why it could be for hoarding reasons, they want the market to stay active. NO clue really.

    [/ QUOTE ]

During I9 beta testing one of the devs posted that they were limiting the amount of salvage we could store because they wanted to limit hoarding. They felt that the low limit would encourage players to sell the salvage to make room for more.

Yes some people will be spiteful and sell everything at an NPC store, and a few might even delete some salvage, but most people will throw it on the market and try to get as much as they can for it.

Judging from the limit of 30 per bin we are allowed I'd guess that they haven't changed their opinion on the matter yet.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
The said item could only allow you to access the bins to which you have permission in the first place, I'm sure that's perfectly possible (if the original idea is, of course).

    [/ QUOTE ]

There are SG's especially RP ones where leaders don't automatically promote all their alts to the highest ranks. They can choose to set the security permissions lower so they can transfer stored items between their alts.

As to increasing the amount of storage allowed for salvage mentioned by others, I would like to see that happen but I'm not optomistic we'll see the devs do it.

Disallowing bids at this point could be very hard to handle... some people who've gotten more than 2 billion inf on a single character store it in the form of bids on nonexistent enhancements.

  20. /unsigned every time this comes up.

Many SG's allow leaders to use storage bins for personal use. You have no right to access those private bins.

This idea would allow players to circumvent any security measure the leaders put in place to prevent them from accessing their private storage.

For example, with pathing restrictions turned off we can now easily build walled off sections inside of bases that cannot be entered without access to base architect permissions.
  21. A percentage seems the fairest way to go (let's use 5% of the total prestige earned by an SG), but the problem I see with the idea of earning while playing is that the amount will always be increasing.

    For example

The fee of 5% for an SG with 1,000,000 prestige would be 50,000

While the fee for an SG with 2,000,000 prestige would be 100,000

Unless there was a way to redirect all prestige earned from the date of the notification of a desire to change the SG name to an name change account.

Then again, what's to stop an SG from putting in for a name change when the SG is still new, and has very little prestige and not using it right away. Kind of like saving it for a rainy day.

Should the devs require an SG have a minimum amount of prestige earned before an SG name can be changed? If so what would the minimum be?

Should it be based on how long an SG has been active?

Should SG members be required to vote on it?

If so how are inactive members going to be dealt with? This could c ause a rash of people getting booted simply because they don't play frequently enough.

Also requiring a vote could cause a rash of players getting booted because they vote against the Super Leader that wants to change an SG name.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
Kick when you feel it's the right choice. For me? I've got some standards, and rules that warrant a kick:

    1. Playing in smaller groups.
--- If you're on a team, work with the team. Don't take a buddy or two and go do your own thing, and leave us hanging dry. I don't care what you think will get us done the fastest.

    2. Being detrimental to the team.
--- If you over-aggro mobs around us, you fail to pull your own weight in any sense of the word. This isn't just playing your AT, it's playing in general.

    3. Starting fights.
--- I've kicked people for just being a pain. Everything from accusing team members of being dead weight on the team, to one incident where someone accused someone else of sleeping with his girlfriend.

    4. Being... Odd.
--- I've got a high tolerance for this, but if your RP experience includes a 10-minute speech about the enemy you've just defeated, and how you plan to preserve justice, then you're OUT... This also applies to people who have macros for every single power.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I pretty much agree with Sig's standards.

    While not against it -

How would you handle making sure that it's actually something the SG (in general) agrees on, as opposed to just the super leader?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    This.

There should also be a fee for changing an SG name. Something heftier than the price of a character name change because it can affect up to 150 players.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The SG should lose prestige since changing the name of an SG reflects its reputation to the public. If you are not comfortable with the name of the SG, do you think the public will be comfortable with your group as a whole. It makes the group seem unorganized or indecisive. Not to mention how are the going to know that the new group is actually the old group...it takes time to rebuild that reputation.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Although I like the idea of a prestige fee (in addition to a cash fee) how would you determine an equitable cost?

Too high and smaller SG's wouldn't be able to afford it.

Too low and it would be meaningless to larger SG's.

If it is based on a percentage of the total amount an SG earned, some SG's might have to sell off part of their base to pay the fee.
