It must have been how you worded it, as I still read it as you equating blackmail and extortion to creating a "homage" character (read- obvious rip off). And since your main argument has been that the latter is "okay", thus the former must be as well (a=c, b=c, therefor a=b).
After re-reading it, I can see how you compared reporting someone with a "homage" character (read- obvious rip off) to extortion and blackmail.
While I take back my previous statement regarding your claims, I maintain that I would much rather keep my Moral Justification over yours.
[/ QUOTE ]
It was my impression that he was saying that if he knew someone was blackmailing or extorting someone else he wouldn't report the crimes. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Moral Justification. I like that phrase. Coming from an individual who claims that blackmail and extortion are not things to be reported to the authorities, I will gladly keep my own Moral Justification over yours, if you don't mind.
[/ QUOTE ]
Where, exactly, did I say that? Pretty sure I said they were scummy things to do, in the same boat as reporting people because you don't like them. How, exactly, that translates to "I think blackmail and extortion are A-Okay", I don't have a clue.
[/ QUOTE ]
You said it right here.
[ QUOTE ]
It's in the same boat as blackmail and extortion to me. Live and let live, IMO.

[ QUOTE ]
I personally disagree. Just because a person enjoys it doesn't make it scummy, or wrong, especially in the correct context (people who know better, but break the rules anyway).
I feel bad when I stop a child from shoplifting, when it's fairly obvious they're young enough to not know better.
I don't feel bad when the child is fairly obvious in knowingly breaking a rule by shoplifting (even something small and 'harmless').
But please don't profess to know that people are doing it solely because they like making kids cry or unhappy. Because you would be wrong. And especially don't declare that the thread is "filled" with those types of people, when all postings indicate the opposite.
[/ QUOTE ]
Shoplifting affects others in a negative way and should be reported.
There's really no moral justification for reporting people who make a copyright character, just like there's no moral justification for those who report AE farms, as much as the forum dwellers would like to think there is, and I know this point will be argued for a few pages by those who feel vindicated in their actions. I'm done posting here, getting too many unwanted flashbacks to those AE farm threads in which I was told I was a horrible, morally unjust person because I didn't think it was a reprehensible offense to farm Comm Officers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah NCSoft has millions of dollars to throw away defending lawsuits. They have nothing better to spend money on. Their employees work for free, and the company has no other expenses to take care of.
Keep digging that hole you're almost to China. -
[ QUOTE ]
Just because you're doing it to get revenge or because you don't like them doesn't make it any less scummy. It's in the same boat as blackmail and extortion to me. Live and let live, IMO.
[/ QUOTE ]
Boy talk about desperately grasping at straws to defend an undefendable position. What's next? Genocide? Barratry? Defenestration? ROFL -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
And yes, there is a pretentious attitude, that whole, "if you aren't reporting people, SHAME on you" attitude that seems to have permeated this thread.
[/ QUOTE ]
I must have missed those people. Which ones were they? The closest I saw were people stating they do it because it's the right thing to do.
[/ QUOTE ]
No one did. Not Rhino can only twist the words that other people have posted.
Just like he's trying to twist what Laxx said. When Laxx said children he was referring to the maturity level of the people that defend their breaking the rules by calling the people that file petitions names.
People that call other players narks and tattletales have the maturity of a kindergarten bully. -
[ QUOTE ]
I bet you get a big snarky smirk on your face every time you report some kid who made a Wolverine ripoff character
[/ QUOTE ]
No the only time I get any pleasure out of seeing a character genericed is when they are one of those "Damn the rules! I'll do whatever I want!" jerks who is cursing and swearing and calling the unknown person that filed the petition a nark or a tattletale.
That childish behaviour tells me that they knew they were breaking the rules and deserve to be laughed at. -
[ QUOTE ]
I apologize for my ignorance as to the set of non-armored valkyrie wings, which, even with research, I was unaware of. On none of the resource sites I looked at were there any mentions of them. I may have made myself look foolish (and I get the strong feeling I have) yet still, I am glad to have a satisfying answer.
As for fairness to vets, I apologize for my bluntness. I do care about vets, I just didn't want more posts talking about being fair to the vets. This thread was for the newbies to talk about wings, not for the vets to say too bad.
In short, I really don't want to make anyone feel slighted, I just wished that there would be more positive comments. I'm sorry, Forbin_Project, I didn't mean to be so disrespectful to our game's more experienced players. I simply think that vets should get extras as rewards, not things that should be defaults reserved just for them. So right now, the choices are to pay for wings, or to wait 15 months for them, neither of which seems fair when more specialized wings are very easily available. I wasn't speaking against vets, and I respect them for their dedication, I was just speaking of what seemed to be an imbalance in the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
NP. I wouldn't call vets more experienced, we've just kept our accounts active longer. There's a ton of stuff I still don't know how to do. You could easily know more things about the game than I.
Now personally I never really liked the idea of having costume pieces as vet rewards, but thats what the devs chose and changing it now wouldn't be fair to the people that patiently earned them. I can't claim to have waited for my wings because when Vet Rewards started I already had 24 months on my account. -
[ QUOTE ]
can't give it a rest when he is proven not guilty
[/ QUOTE ]
Looks like someone doesn't understand the difference between not guilty and innocent.
Not Guilty
verdict after trial by judge sitting without a jury or by jury (unanimous decision in all but two states, which allow a verdict by only 10 of the jurors), stating that the prosecution has not proved the defendant guilty of crime or that it believes the accused person was insane at the time crime was committed.
Innocent
1. free from moral wrong; without sin; pure.
2. free from legal or specific wrong; innocent of the crime.
3. not involving evil intent or motive: an innocent misrepresentation.
4. not causing physical or moral injury; harmless: innocent fun.
5. devoid (usually fol. by of): a law innocent of merit.
6. having or showing the simplicity or naiveté of an unworldly person; guileless; ingenuous.
7. uninformed or unaware; ignorant.
8. an innocent person.
9. a young child.
10. a guileless person.
11. a simpleton or idiot. -
You have to float the box to get the water effect. You can raise it using one of the tall oriental lights, you can place it on a desk, or even the safe then delete the desk/safe.
I can't explain the splashing or duckies tho. I never heard of them before. -
[ QUOTE ]
Forbin, I refreshed the post and your "The door man just called and said..." comment is gone! I just wanted to say that I lauged so hard I woke up my dog and peed a little
Well played sir, well played indeed!
[/ QUOTE ]
As to the humor aspect I'm glad you got a laugh out of it.
I'm actually glad it was removed. It's a clear indication that the Mods have reviewed this thread and determined that it doesn't violate the rules of the forum.

A good point, and I had been considering it before, yet still, do armored wings really work with tights? Not really.
[/ QUOTE ]
There are two sets of Valkyrie wings to choose from. Plain wings, and armored wings. But you would have known that if you had bothered to do any research before posting.
[ QUOTE ]
I don't really care about fairness to the vets.
[/ QUOTE ]
Trust me, Vets feel the same way about you. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah, it would be nice to up the capacity for storage bins. 50 is even acceptable for me. Least I can put 1x of each invention salvage in a single bin that were common, uncommon, or rare.
[/ QUOTE ]
I was in I9 beta testing prior to the Personal Vault beiong tested and at that time we were allowed to store 150 pieces of IO salvage in the salvage bins. That dropped to 50 then zero when the bins were tested.
So when I13 went live I was disappointed when I saw the limit was 30. I figured the limit would be somewhere between 50-150. -
[ QUOTE ]
That's like telling your boss at work: "If you pay me now, I'll come in every day this week."
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually I've always felt that retirement benefits are a better example. You can't expect to collect a 20 year retirement package until you've actually earned it. You can't promise to be there 20 years later. -
[ QUOTE ]
Any way.... you can have a scenario were someone has less time in the service, with the same commitment and be of equal or higher rank.(I guess I should just said that first)
BC
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes you are right about that but . . .
Even with the skills for stripes program you mention there is a time component being considered.
In that case it's the time they spent learning/using those skills before getting their stripes. That time is valuable to the military and is why they are willing to reward it with a higher rank.
And it is that time component some people are overlooking. This game doesn't recognise time components from outside sources. The time actually has to be spent keeping this your account active. -
[ QUOTE ]
I suspect blissful lack of awareness of the rules (EULA comes up, click OK, play game) is the root issue here. The character is not a clone, hommage, or adaptation, but simply The Vision, created in CoH, right down to the Marvel Universe bio.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks for bringing this up BBhumeBB. As everyone can see I left out certain vital pieces of information that would let people draw conclusions about the player, like Vet Rewards.
I also knew that this is an old hot button that will get emphatic responses from both sides.
I chose to reopen this topic because this character was a perfect example of copyright/trademark violation, and because with the release of I14 we have many new players that are most likely unaware of the EULA.
So with that explanation I want to thank every one who has participated so far in this thread, as well as extend that thanks to every one that decides to continue this discussion. -

Wow... he (or she) did a great job.
I'm surprised the toon made it to level 3 without getting zapped.

Note the time I started the thread. That was maybe 5 minutes after I took the screenshot. -

One "server", one "forum", for everyone.
[/ QUOTE ]....One Ring to rule them all!
[/ QUOTE ]
"This Ring, no other, is made by the elves,
Who'd pawn their own mother to grab it themselves.
Ruler of creeper, mortal and scallop,
This is a sleeper that packs quite a wallop.
The Power almighty rests in this Lone Ring.
The Power, alrighty, for doing your Own Thing.
If broken or busted, it cannot be remade.
If found, send to Sorhed (the postage is prepaid)." -
Considering they just cut bin salvage capacity from 2500 to 30 when I13 went live, it's probably unlikely that they will do an increase anytime soon.
I would love to see it happen, but I'm not holding my breath. -
As a matter of fact I only remember one panel from an Avengers comic. Vision was phasing into the unconscious body of one of the other Avengers . . . That's all I remember.
-
You'd be surprised at the number of players that can spot obscure literary references. I can't explain why I recognized the character because I haven't read an Avengers comic in over 20 years. When I did buy comics I read Sgt. Rock, Ghost Rider, and X-Men. So I was surprised that I recognised the character.
-
[ QUOTE ]
We also should be able to use more than 12.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm guessing that when you say that, you are referring to the number of storage bins an base can have. If that's the case your numbers are wrong. A base can have 18 storage bins in any combination.
That being said, yes more bins would be nice. -

do i smell...... rat?
[/ QUOTE ]
No, I no longer have pet rats. They just don't live as long as I would like my pets to live.
Unless you were talking about Forbin... In which case, I would have to say that I am not sure what his avatar is, let alone what it smells like.
[/ QUOTE ]
The Avatar is "Foamy the Squirrel", an angry little animated cartoon. You can find many of his cartoons on You Tube. Very funny but not for the kiddies. -

This is my second account, my wife took over my original after I got her into the game.....
[/ QUOTE ]
Dude. You are MARRIED! You should know how things work in a marriage.
What's her's is her's, and what's your's is her's.
[/ QUOTE ] Technically, according to the rules, accounts can not be shared or transferred, which means you should be able to take the account back from your wife at any time. haha
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually that isn't correct. The Eula says this.
4. Account
By accepting the terms of use in the Agreement, Members represent that you are an adult 18 years of age or older. Only one person may use an Account. The registered user of an Account may use the Account or may choose instead to permit a minor child of the registered user to use the Account. You are liable for all activities conducted through your Account, and parents or guardians are liable for all activities of their minor child conducted through the Account.
But wives don't fall under that rule. The company chooses to ignore the spouse situation. -
[ QUOTE ]
So shiny and after he/she typed in all that bio information too.
[/ QUOTE ]
In my dark twisted evil heart I'm hoping that he/she is using the AE to farm him up to 50 before someone petitions him. That will make the generic so much sweeter.
