Sure it is, in a level appropriate zone. I would hope no one would be advocating someone learn this where mobs are +4 to them?

Someplace like the "old" Hollows maybe? Now that was a learning experience! Come on, you remember.
Whoops.... killed again, damn back to atlas.... sprint back to the far side of the map through lvl 12,13,14's and your just a lvl 6.

Yeah that zone was soooo much fun back then.
Err no. Thanks to newspaper missions in kings row, after my second toon ever (ice/kin) I have never been back to the Hallows. Ever.
[/ QUOTE ]
Great thread. Anyway, never really understood the Hollows Hate. I guess I am alone in actually ENJOYING the missions and environment there? I always try to run all my characters through it, AFTER getting the jet and jump pack though
(looks around, sees no one, goes back in his lurker hole).

We didn't have those temp powers back then. Best we had was Sprint modified with Swift and/or Hurdle, or Hover.
Using Sprint you had to run around the edges of the zone. Hover gave you a straight path but took forever.
Of course if you were lucky there'd be a Taxibot on duty. -
There's a simple solution to your imagined problem. Let your email fill up and ignore it.
They can't send you an email if your box is full.
Something the devs can do is raise the email limit to level 14, then trials can't send emails at all.
I don't care if the RMT sites buy active accounts to spam. As those accounts get banned, they have to replace the accounts. More money in the devs pockets for those acts of stupidity. -

One year before the Winter Event was started I had won a costume contest with my level 1 Xmas Ork, so I ran him back and forth to Peregine Island and used the winnings to buy SO's and gave them away to new alts zoning in at the spawn point in front of Ms. Liberty.
[/ QUOTE ]
Is there a contact for SOs in PI that doesn't make you do a mish first?
[/ QUOTE ]
I asked whomever was around at the time to buy them, and traded the inf to them for the purchases. A couple even kicked in some of their own inf to help when I explained what I was doing.
This was before the influence beggars that have shown up over the past couple years and put a damper on Random acts of Kindness. Peoples generosity wanes when they start getting constant demands for free stuff from lazy players with entitlement delusions. -

No it wouldn't. You don't have to leave the AE building to be able to drop PITA waste of time missions.
None of the characters I have made after we got the drop mission feature has Wincott or any of those other useless npc's on their contact list.
[/ QUOTE ]
True, but you know how sometimes you drop a mission and then the contact gives you another junk one in the same vein. Besides, how many players who don't know about enhancements would know they can drop a mission?
[/ QUOTE ]
At this point probably slim to none because it doesn't do it.
However as soon as they implemented it the people that are PL'ing them would tell them to just drop it and explain how so they wouldn't have to stop farming.
The only thing these new players are being told is how to maximize their farming/powerleveling.
Now I'm not bashing farming or PLing. If new players prefer that playstyle that's fine with me. I just want them to see their are other choices they might want to investigate before committing themselves to that playstyle.
Making them go to other zones and learn basic game mechanics will also make them better players in the long run.
Someone that filled all his character slots with PL'd 50's and still doesn't know what enhancements are is going to get disgusted with the game when he can't play it on his own and quit. -

Your right, but that is why it was a HAZARD zone. That was your warning before you entered that it was going to be tough. -

Because learning to navigate thru a zone without getting killed by mobs is a valuable skill.

[/ QUOTE ]
Why not? I've been doing it for 5 years whenever a new release has added new costumes and I ran dozens of my lowbie alts to the Steel Canyon or Independance Port Icon Stores to tweak their costumes rather than reroll the entire alt.
It's one of the easiest skills to learn in the game. -

Put it across the street from the King's Row train station. If you're removing the building from one zone, why not move it in another to eliminate the risk?

"Fluff" has no effect. I don't complete a mission faster because I'm wearing the Baron jacket from the magic pack, or I'm wearing red instead of green. That is "fluff."
[/ QUOTE ]
That's a lie, and you know it. Everyone knows red makes things go faster. Duh.

NOWAI!
the FLAMES make things go faster!!

QR,
I also think there needs to be some sort of post-tutorial pop-up or mission that tells folks about the various zones, their ranges, and transportation models (the tram/ cov ferries.). The tutorial doesn't provide explanations of this.
This way newbs know what the appropriate zones are for content, before they go all sewer team/bank job team.
Just an aside.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes. Expand the current tutorial to include some of the new features and make it mandatory for new players to go thru ONCE per account. Once they have gone thru it their account is flagged and they can unlock the ability to skip it when they make more characters. -

I don't have the patience to work for what I want.
Please let me PL character after character and just buy my way to power by spending all this extra money my daddy has on digital gear. Me want stuff now!
I hope you caught the sarcasm there, because I was laying it on pretty thick.
In short, no. Sorry.
[/ QUOTE ]
This, but not as nice. -
[ QUOTE ]
I agree with this, though maybe level 10 is a better unlock point. Additionally I think the AE building should be moved out of Atlas and Mercy so it isn't in the starting zones.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree with this 110%.
And this has nothing to do with farming.
It's about new players learning that there is more to the game than 1 zone.
It's about learning the basics. What enhancements are, What contacts are, What a door mission is, How to use the train . . .
It's about new players learning what the game actually has to offer so they don't get bored in two months and quit because they are tired of the AE. -

So the elitists run rampant again.
Far be it for others to play your precious little game in a manner different than what you perceive to be the right way.
The 'wonderful community' of this game that has blown it's own trumpet for years about how friendly they are to new players seems to have turned into something completely different.
So what if someone fills their account with 50's that never leave Atlas. SO WHAT. If they enjoy that, that is their fun time.
The lack of acceptance for new players, simply based upon how they have chosen to play the game, is appalling to me.
But, by all means, carry on with your gamer-geek rage. You have every right to dislike them and post here about it.
And it's a very interesting train wreck to watch. A great example of cognitive dissonance actually. Very educational.
[/ QUOTE ]
YEAH!
You guys are a bunch of jerks for wanting to show new players there's more to the game than one zone that they'll get bored of after a month and cancel their subs.
Where do you elitist snobs get off trying to entice new players into trying the content that fascinated you for 5 years.
Only complete anti-social jacktards would want to make long term friends with new players and game regularly with them.
You are all a bunch of intolerant gamer-geeks!
They're coming for you. -

It's always sad to see someone leave due to outside circumstances.

Well......no....not neccesarily....
What if you won the Powerball and are going to travel the world?
[/ QUOTE ]
Then I could afford a top line rig that would allow me to keep playing from any location on the planet.
I could also afford to go to the devs in person and give them a dump truck full of cash with the instructions to spend it on more costumes and base lovin. -

I think the AE building should be moved to the RWZ. That way you have to be level 35 to get in. At least (hopefully) the toons at least know how to use their powers and can help.
I get so tired of seeing level 10's invite people to run level 54 boss farms. I decline all boss farms unless i know the team. I don't see how team wipes help get xp...
Personally, i hardly ever even use the AE. I'm an OG farmer. lol.
[/ QUOTE ]
RWZ already has an AE building. -
[ QUOTE ]
Whats funny, is we all thought the PI broadcast was a pain in the rear. Now we get it in every zone because of the broadcasts by people camping in the AE buildings. It's a big reason I stopped showing the broadcast channel all together.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't know what server you play on but the ones I play on don't have people spamming for AE teams in every zone.
The only zone I see that ever has an abundance of those messages is Atlas Park. I can't comment on redside because I haven't played it much since I14 went live.

I know he means permissions but everytime I read it I see persimmons. -
Thanks Josh, seeing it described it as a punishment was bugging me.
I do agree that the whole point of the event is to make leveling easier, so I can't deny the validity of allowing 2xp in the AE.
My concerns are that we are seeing more and more new players that think the game consists solely of Atlas Park and the AE. If that's all they think there is to this game they are going to get bored and quit.
By excluding the AE we might get them out of the building and get them to look around and see all the other stuff in the game. -
It isn't a punishment. The devs already restrict items from the 2xp weekends. I don't see you claiming that those are punishments.
Also for it to be a punishment it would have to be selectively applied.
Flagging peoples accounts that were caught using the AE Rikti exploit to prevent them from participating would be a punishment.
Not allowing Freedom to participate in the 2xp weekend because of the population problem would be a punishment.
Not allowing anyone to get 2xp while running AE missions is a restriction, just like patrol xp, drops, etc are restricted. -
[ QUOTE ]
They just need to remove the AE from Atlas Park. They've already removed all the good farming methods, noobs seem to be happy to throw themselves at 54 bosses and wonder why they die all the time. If they had to actually go somewhere to start farming, at least they'd be getting out more, and it'd quiet the place down.
[/ QUOTE ]
This.
The people that use the AE can't even make the complaint that shutting down the Atlas AE would force them into a higher level zone because there's an AE in Galaxy. The only difference between Atlas and Galaxy is the Wentworth's -
[ QUOTE ]
That's getting common, I had someone asking me if they could explore further like "Which expansion comes with the hazard zones?" Apparently they think AE is 90% of the game where the other 10% is the Character Creation.
Then all kind of questions were made like how to get a cape or what is a TF.
She was a level 50 Fire/Psi blaster who also mentioned at least two more 50s.
[/ QUOTE ]
How long are these types of players going hang around?
What are they going to tell their friends about their experience with CoH?
Well you go to this city called Atlas Park where all the bad guys are low level, then you have to go to this building called the AE and there you can fight custom bad guys all the way up to level 50. . . They have a villains side called Mercy Island with the same set up. . . No, that's it. The players say the games been around for 5 years but I don't see how.
