This isn't a bad idea, it's just that we already have the Experienced power that does the same thing.
-
Ah. Okay if they thought that I can see why they'd be confused about how it works.
-
Quote:Or the devs could just make the badges like te anniversary badges account wide.Other advantages would help players that finally found the 'perfect' powerset for their 'main' but couldn't get all the badges they had back (like anniversary, etc) while also allowing them to experience old (and new content previously unavailable) directly with those characters (actually having the contacts and filling them in, unlike in Oroborous).
Quote:Basically, this idea has merit, and shouldn't be dismissed out of turn. -
I want a fart emote that triggers the puking emote in players and NPC's within a 10yd radius of my character.
-
Quote:I think your missing what some people like about the idea.I have two accounts. Back in the days of Leveling Pacts, I could do pretty much this by linking a new character on each account.
The allure quickly fades. Trust me.
1. They could level up one character and using different builds with different power sets get 2-3 different characters without buying extra character slots. They can even have different costumes for each build.
2. They could choose one build with power sets that are easy to run at low levels, then switch builds to power sets that are easy to run at high levels.
3. They could unlock things that normally have to be unlocked seperately on each character and instead unlock it once for what is essentially 2-3 different characters. Like accolades, and weapon customization from bages.
It's all about manipulating and cheating the system for the least amount of effort and money. -
And why would someone need to unequip the character? With three builds it shouldn't be hard to create a Premium friendly build.
-
Quote:It's also one of their chosen methods of providing good customer service. Many players have left for one reason or another claiming they'd never return only to come back weeks, months, or years later and happily pick up where they left off.Well, your quote is that you were told: "To maintain the continuity and accuracy of the user database, NCsoft master accounts and game accounts cannot be deleted once created."
I guess you're reading that as, "We can't delete the account or we might mess up the database."
I read it as, "Our policy is not to delete accounts." This gives them the "continuity" of records being permanent and the "accuracy" of having a record of every account ever created. -
Quote:The devs did see it coming and that's why they deliberately left the decision in the hands of the players. If a player doesn't like the way an SG is being led he is free to quit and start an SG where he is in charge and he can benevolent or tyrannical as he likes. But only "at the SG leadership's discretion." Even if the leadership evenly distributes that responsibility (and I've seen some horror stories about how badly that's turned out sometimes), having a voice in the creation of a shared base isn't quite the same thing as creating your own. That sort of unrestrained freedom's usually reserved for those who create solo bases, which is why it confuses me that, in a game where creative expression is such a selling point, the developers never saw that coming and still rail against it rather than trying to work with it.
Also if the devs were against the idea of solo SG's they wouldn't have allowed us to create them with one character. They'd have instead followed in the footsteps of other games and required a minimum number of players from different accounts to create an SG. (5 seems to be the industry standard requirement)
What they devs seem to consider the "misuse" of an SG when a player is using it as a stable for the characters on his own account to get around storage limitations. And for the record I doubt you'll find any players that wouldn't be thrilled if the devs changed their minds on that.
Wait, what am I saying? This is the internet, of course there will be a couple of crackpots complaining if the devs changed their minds. Someone always feels obligated to complain. -
And every time someone gets a dev response to this idea they tell us they aren't considering working on it because it undermines all the work they've put into making the game alt friendly.

How much does it cost to send your spouse on a one way trip into space? Even 200k is cheaper than some divorces.

Quote:Some tapes got erased, others were lost to either time or fire as I recall. I think they have pretty much canvassed all the TV stations for any old tapes so finding any lost episodes now would be pretty astounding. Unless some of the cast from those days have copies in their estates I don't see any of them being found.
There are 27 incomplete Doctor Who serials, with 106 of 253 episodes from the first six years of the programme missing. -
Quote:You are aware how the other builds work right? All builds are equal to your primary build level. So if you power level your primary build to 50 and then switch to your secondary build it's also level 50. You just have to assign the powers and slots.given that you can level to 50 in about 4 hours if you really want to, how is doubling that to 8 hours going to make much difference?
/agree with the others that the devs would be cutting their throats if they allowed this. -
Quote:Where exactly are you getting the notion that the devs intended maybe one person in ten would get to design a base? But the concept of bases, as the developers intended it, is that maybe one person in ten (if even that) gets to be creative and design the base, while the other members of the supergroup just follow that person's lead and maybe get to design their own little room if the leader allows it.
Base editing permissions have always been in the players hands and open to every SG member at the SG leaderships discretion. -
Quote:Sorry to tell you this but you are incorrect. This is from the EULA, and you've been agreeing to it each and every time you log into the game or onto the forums. The account(s) are mine, not theirs. If I so wish to have them removed. Then THEY should do so. period.
Quote:Whether or not You wish to terminate an Account, NCsoft may at any time or for any reason, both of which shall be conclusively determined in the sole and absolute discretion of NCsoft, modify or delete Your Account as well as any other Account, NCsoft Message Board ID, Character ID, Team, and/or characteristics related to a Character ID.
Regardless of what they decide to do, you need to contact support directly.

Quote:Stealing the cookie was merely a distraction that allowed the Underpants Gnome to make off with the citizens skivvies.I think I saw one of the Keebler Elves in Sharkhead the other day...
The evil little bastige stole a cookie from a citizen I was going to mug (prompting
the arrival of several arachnos agents), and then he vanished into thin air (*poof*)
before I could pummel him into a mushy pulp for his insolence (and ruining my
caper).
Sure, sure, it was just a small-time heist, but I was bored between bank jobs...
Anyway...
As for the OP, have a beer, take a valium with it, and sleep for 10 or 12 hours.
The anger will surely pass (not sure we can fix the sense of entitlement, but I've
already exceeded my helpfulness quota for the month with my prior advice)
Cheers,

PS> Time to hunt down and beat the baking powder out of that <pancake> Elf... -
As far as what I'd like to see done with personal lairs in general is I think the devs should design a series of small themed lairs and sell them on the Paragon Store. Let players buy as few or as many as they like and then just like the temp powers in the Paragon Rewards give players the option to choose which lair best suits each character from a list of lairs they purchased.
Possible themes: Underground, Sewer, Laboratory, Space Station, Chalet, Haunted House, Underwater, Moon Base, Basement, Arcane, Oriental, Medieval, etc.
Link access to the lairs to a teleport power so players can access it from anywhere in the game.
They could even sell basic lairs that are just decorative with no additional features, then sell upgrades that add reduced/limited SG/Base features that only that specific character can access so there would still be incentives to join SG's.
Like a "medical package", a "teleport package", and a "storage package". -
Quote:I personally don't blame them for the technical hurdles they're facing, but from their responses to requests for offline SG invites I get the impression that at least one of them is offended at how many players use SG's for personal bases.I think you are very confused in equating "Devs responding to the community and their desires" with "being able to accomplish goals realistically".
The simple fact of the matter is that they can promise you the world but practically they can do very little to the actual system. It's a cobbled together spaghetti mess of code where changing even the slightest thing could mean breaking not just the base system but the game.
They are being cute when they say things like jenga on fire but at the same time they're being brutally honest. This is a system with little to no documentation and while they're trying to reverse engineer it's been clear for YEARS that doing so is an incredibly intensive and laborious process and potentially not even the right way to go about it if it even CAN be reverse engineered.
So this isn't them being untrue to their word, this isn't them lying, this isn't them ignoring the player's wishes. They understand that we would LOVE to have new base stuff and a functional, working base system with new goodies added now and again. They're trying. They're working on it. But trying to pin it against them because they're having to work with a mess they inherited and paint it as if it's because they're not really doing their job and just ignoring what we want? That's just ridiculous. -
I didn't think you were, and would you be surprised that I actually agree with
everything you just said?
I'm at the point now where I wouldn't be upset if the devs developed a brand new base feature (hopefully including some form of personal lairs) then ripped out the old feature and announced everyone was starting over from scratch.
As much as I'd hate to lose all the effort I put into the current base feature, at least what we're currently dealing with would be over. -
Quote:345 posts, roughly 340 of them doomcrying about CoH finances.
One wonders why an actual player would only ever bother posting if it gave them an opportunity to pontificate on the impending failure of the game.
Strange, that.
I wonder how long it will take him to go thru his posts and count the ones where he didn't natter on about the finances so he can refute your post by saying something along the lines of, "That's not true. I only talked about the finances 263 times. That means I talked about other topics 82 times."
-
Doomies never let things like that stop them. Technically they are right. The game will in fact one day shut down because it stopped being profitable. As long as they keep their predictions sufficiently vague, and repeat them so they are always recent, they can pat themselves on the back and tell each other how clever they were for seeing the "inevitable".

Quote:I won't try to convince you to not switch servers, I'll just say that where it comes to getting hacked the server doesn't come into it. What gets hacked is the Master Account.Aye, ty i noticed virtue and freedom high pop severs, im not really into the larger type servres, it seems like you feel lost and lonely and im not into RP and im not worried about the 5 mil cash, i can make that back just i like made in 2004, good old farming, just makes me mad ncsoft couldnt help BUT i do understand i been out of game since 2004, i knew something wqs wrong when i checked my account last week and saw it said your account is banned till 2038, I'm like sheesh thats a very long time to wait and play CoH ROFL, so i called them up and ask why my account is banned till 2038, they told me my account was under suspiscios 3rd party activity in 2005 and i said i had no clue or idea since i left the gaame myself in 2004, So they unlocked my account and ask me when i log in to check all my characters to see if im missng anything then if i did, i need to log a report, well i logged in check all 5 characters and all cash total of 5 mill was gone ect.... so i called ncsoft back and they told me since its been so many years old of my account that tey had no way to know for sure i got hacked and they apologized that they couldnt hep me with my lost cash, so i said thats cool thnaked them for unbaning my account and i redid my whole account wiht new passwprd, mew credit card and new email ect... so now im just going to sart a new character on a new server, i mean sure i can play on my old server and play my old characters but it just doesnt feel right, plus starting iver lets me relearn the game ect...
Several years ago NCSoft had a security problem with two of their other games which allowed people access to other players Master Accounts by simply logging in and out of their own Master Account.
For some reason by logging in repeatedly a player would suddenly find himself with access to a random players account where he could access all the info needed to get any game linked to that master account.
So a person with an Aion account could find himself in an account that only had City of Heroes.
Anyway once in a Master Account it's easy to get email info, change passwords, and authorize ingame purchases to the credit card on file for any game attached to the Master Account.
NCSoft fixed the problem as fast as they could, but in the cases where the real owner of the account was no longer playing they had no way knowing if the account was hacked or if the activity was the legitimate use of a returning customer unless a complaint was made.
I'm very sorry to hear you were a victim of being hacked, and hope it doesn't affect your return to the game too much. -
Quote:My mistake then where he is concerned. I'll edit the post to reflect that. Thanks for correcting my error. Was UD banned? I though he simply never popped back up after he went to the americas to get proof of the dupin'.

The game has long since paid for itself, and the only cost now is maintenence and development of new content. Everything else is pure profit. The only time I'd start worrying is if they stop releasing new stuff.

Quote:I don't believe forum accounts get deleted, just as game accounts don't. You could get banned, I suppose, but that's a one-way street - once banned, there's no way to get unbanned afterward.
If you insist on getting your account deleted, you could try sending a PM to Zwillinger, but there's no guarantee that will work, and he takes forever to reply, because his Inbox is constantly overflowing.
A better solution would be to just stop visiting the forums. Delete your bookmark if you have one, and pretend they don't exist. If you don't have the willpower to stop, get a net-nanny program and block the forums.
EDIT: Thanks to that glitch that makes the forums get confused about account status, your name was gold before you posted, and white after. :/
If you are Premium, you can't send PMs, so you can't contact Zwill. In this case, your only real recourse is to go to the support site and put in a support ticket making your request. I really don't think anything will be done though.
I don't believe it's possible to get your forum account removed. I can think of several forum members that have been banned and you can still find their forum accounts and old posts.
Posts from JRanger, Shiverwraith, & KittyKrusader for example can still be found using the Search tool.
Edit: Removed a name from my list of examples because I was wrong about his account status.
