  1. I think you should spend your influence on my characters.
  2. I haven't even tried to read what he posted in red. If the OP feels what he has to say is important, then he'll post it in a color that can be read by everyone.

I'd like to remind everyone that essentially, we're already involved in a gambling game. The moment you defeat an NPC, but don't know exactly what l00t they'll drop, that's already a gamble.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And how much Inf are you betting? How much Inf do you stand to lose if you fail to defeat that NPC?

Sorry you can't call it gambling if there is no risk involved. You can't even count debt as a risk because they don't take exp away from you. You can't lose a fight and then have to earn that level all over again.

How is this suggestion supposed to make the game better?

    Oh yeah. It doesn't.

/unsigned and 2 BIG thumbs down.

Nonono Forbin. I'm not talking about people who are in and legitimately USING the game, getting XP or not. I'm talking about the type of nether orifice that logs in, plays a while then picks up an AE mission or TF and goes and parks without logout.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Last 2xp weekend someone started chewing me out when I told him I was busy on my base. Said I was making it harder for the legitimate players to play. So I threw him on ignore and rebuilt my base from the ground up.

Now I admit that because he irritated me I logged onto my second account as well and then would run that character thru a mission, then used the prestige earned on the second account to rebuild my base on the first account. That probably caused my base building to take 3 times as long as it normally would have had the jerk kept his mouth shut.

I also kept toggling to the forums to participate in the whinefest going on there. The guy that tried arguing that the way to solve Freedoms overpopulation was to merge the servers was priceless.

    Thanks for the corrections Rajani.

That being said, /search still only gives a person a skewed perception of how many players are online. Many players make use of the /hide feature to avoid searches by other people. Particularly RMT spammers that use the search feature to collect names to send emails to.

This results in giving the appearance that a server is empty so to speak when it really isn't especially on lower pop servers.

    [/ QUOTE ]
The suggestion was to perform these searches at the OP's "normal play times" which would mitigate the time of day issue. Furthermore, most of folks hiding from searches (like RMTers) are not folks that the OP will be able to team with easily so I think search gives a close approximation.

While you are technically correct that search does not give an accurate number of server pop, I think the suggestion will get the OP 90% of what they are looking for. And it's really the only tool players have to judge pop (other than the red/yellow/green) as far as I know. However, I will also reiterate that finding a good SG, even on a low pop server, will probably help even more.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've been thinking about it and the OP might get some useful info on finding a good group if he asks a few questions down in the individual server forums below.

I bet theres several people down there that would be happy to introduce the OP to their circle of friends on the various servers.

And using in-game tricks to just flat out STAY connected throughout...I'll just leave this unsaid.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hey, if I wanna spend my 2xp weekend logged onto Freedom, and stand in my base using the base editor to tear my base down to the foundations and rebuild it that's my right. I'm not breaking any rules.

    Spending an hour going *CLICK*

    [/ QUOTE ] *cough* B.S. *cough*

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not entirely. It depends on what type of effort they make when trying to log on.

During the last 2xp weekend the longest time it took me to get onto Freedom was 3 minutes. HOWEVER . . . I sat at my computer and patiently logged in and backed out over and over until I got online.

If people aren't willing to take the time to make the effort it requires to log on then it may very well take them an hour to log on.

I know exactly what many of them are doing. They try to log on and can't, try two or three more times, then give up for 10 minutes and try again, give up and try again 5-10 minutes later, give up and try again in another 10 minutes, etc. etc. etc. Before they know it an hour and a half has passed and they blame the devs.
  11. If that guy is willing to pay $75 bucks each month to play the AE then more power to him. It's better he spend his money here than someplace else. If we're really lucky he paid a year in advance for all his accounts.

You chose to play on that guys team. You have no one to blame but yourself for getting angry and frustrated.

Content you've never played before on a character is still new content.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd say this is true up to a point.

Newer content often contains improvements not found in older content. Basically, in my mind I'm comparing pre-CoV to post-CoV, so when I'm thinking of old I mean OLD. As in "before 2005."

To provide a few examples ...

Newer arcs are less likely to contain superfluous hunts and errands.

Newer content is more likely to feature custom heroes and villains (as opposed to generic bosses).

Newer content typically features more complications / objectives in each mission. (This is not true in each case, or course, but in general newer missions are more sophisticated.)

Newer content often has updated artwork, newer maps, better special effects. (Compare, for example, the costumes of the Outcasts and the Legacy Chain.)

Newer arcs often have more complex stories.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Posing the argument that way, I can agree with what you are saying.
  15. Why do you have a problem with people telling new players the truth about the performance issuess they will encounter if they choose to play on Freedom?

Fact 1 Freedom gets greyed out during popular events like the upcoming 2xp event next week.

Fact 2 due to the high population Freedom experiences more lag than other servers when many players gather at gathering points like trainers, the AE, the market, etc.

Fact 3 due to the high population Freedom experiences more broadcast spam than other servers.

It says a lot about the character of a person when they don't want a new player to be able to make an informed decision.

    WRONG.

If Tyrant's Paragon City is as large as our Paragon then that's 30+ zones right there.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Complete and absolute conjecture, obviously. As awesome as our devs are working right now, I really don't see them replicating all of Paragon City.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Doesn't change the math. Going Rogue will open up the 30+ zones Paragon City has as well as however many zones Tyrant Earth will be bringing, and whatever new zones new storylines will be implemented. 30+X= more than 30.

The simple fact is that the devs have a history of adding new zones to the game. 20+ zones have been added since the game launched.

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Furthermore there has been no indication the crossovers are going to be one way. So unless the devs come out and say we can only become redeemed/fallen once per character that means Villains will have access to another 30+ zones. So no matter how you do the math villains will have access to 30+ zones they never had before.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My point is, people want new villain zones because people want, surprise surprise, villain content. Opening up Paragon City to villains doesn't do jack for those that actually want their villains to stay evil, and please don't say "just pretend you're being evil...in Paragon City!" since I've played at least 90% of the heroside content. Old content is old content, no matter who you're playing it as.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Content you've never played before on a character is still new content.

    [ QUOTE ]
Implying that villains won't be able to "reform" then "fall" again from grace is patently disingenuous, just as claiming heros won't "fall" then "redeem" themselves.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [ QUOTE ]
It's a good thing that I implied no such thing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes you did. You said the crossover content was only available to "reformed" villains, which implies the crossover is one way.

Also I'd like to point out that Redemption is only one plot device that can be used to explain why a villain might switch to being a hero. The spy/double agent is another plot twist that gets used frequently.

But if it makes you feel better to accuse someone of lacking candor, or simple frankness, be my guest.

Edit: Added highlights to refute accusations that I'm trying to hide a statemnt I made.

    2. /search only tells you who is not hidden in a particular zone, and zone popluations are constantly changing as people travel between missions.

    3. I believe there's a cap of 200 that shows up on a search list. (I could be wrong on this last part)

    [/ QUOTE ]

    2. You can select it to show from all zones.

    3. Don't even think it's 200, however, whenever your search returns more results than it will show, the bottom of the search window will go "This list has be truncated (#### total results)" thus still giving you the total number of people online for that server and side not hidden from search.

never going to happen. they won't restrict content like that. no to mention if you have an account that your family plays on, specificaly your children, they would have access to that content. this is a bad idea for any MMO to put in their game.

  23. Which proves nothing because:

    1. Many players use the /hide tool to avoid searches.

    2. /search only tells you who is not hidden in a particular zone, and zone popluations are constantly changing as people travel between missions.

    3. I believe there's a cap of 200 that shows up on a search list. (I could be wrong on this last part)

    4. Time of day also affects how many people are playing. What may be a busy time in the US may be dead time in Australia.
  24. These questions are so much easier to answer when the person takes a screenshot first.
