I think the real question is: would the number of obsessives who throw a whack of money down on a gamble like that be outweighed by the number of people like me who would be willing to drop, say, $20-30 for a super pack "exclusive" up front?

Sure, it may be nicer to have 50 people shelling out $250 each on a pack purchasing rampage for the "must-haves", but if you can get 625 people dropping $20, you've got the same profit. Plus, if the pet were also available from the packs, then you'd probably get some interest from people who aren't willing to drop that much on a vanity pet but are willing to buy packs from their stipend or their PR tokens or the extra few hundred points that always seem to kick around every time you buy something in-game.

Mind you, I have no particular regard for artificial exclusivity, as implemented in MMOs. The only reason to restrict supply of an object that is infinitely replicable is to establish it as a "positional good," which is annoying and particularly out of character from a game that's gone out of its way to be so inclusive as to develop systems like exemplaring and sidekicking.

Unfortunately for your example the devs already have the hard numbers on the success of both the vanity pet sales and the super pack sales, and the company made half a million on super packs while the amount made on the vanity wolf sales was so insignificant it wasn't worth mentioning.

They have no reason to believe that the Black Wolf would make any more money than the regular wolf did if it was sold seperately.

    Account Storage

We'd all love extra storage, but what we want we don't always get from the devs no matter how often we ask.
  5. What exactly does the OP think he's missing that he he should be getting as a Premium account?

Without knowing that we really can't say one way or another if there is a misunderstanding, a bug, or if as Adeon mentioned the OP may have accidentally created a new Free account.

Even if you weren't a Linda Carter fan you at least recognized who she was supposed to be.

All too often the "general attitude" from the text didn't match up with what the voice acting said. Had I known what the voice acting was going to say I would have made a different choice.

After this much time I can't remember any specific examples but it happened often enough to be annoying to me.

But those were just irritations. What stopped me from subbing was their lousy customer service. The first time I had an issue it took me two weeks just to get thru. Their automated service kept hanging up on me. Then once thru I waited on hold for 4 freaking hours before a human being answered.

The second time I needed to call CS I said the hell with it and uninstalled the game.

At least if the wolf were an option in the store, I might yet drop some money on it, but as it stands I'm not throwing good money after bad trying to get the random drop.

Says the VIP who doesn't have to spend a dime on any Super Packs because he can get them for free with the Paragon Rewards he gets each month.

I only hope the OP reads the responses he has been given in his other thread so he can learn how our naming system works.
  10. It's a bug that happens from time to time. Switching servers once or twice has always fixed it for me.
  11. I demand the devs send her a special City of Heroes Collectors Edition with everything unlocked on the account so we can watch her open it and create her first character in the costume creator.

Heck give her a years sub for free as well.

    1) It is ridiculously easy. Basically every fight was like fighting greens when fully decked out in IOs.
    2) The leveling pace makes a CoH bonus XP weekend look snail-slow.
    3) Due to the above 2 reasons, the story is really the only reason to play.
    a) Once you hit max level, you run out of story and have no reason to play.
    b) The story is fine, but it's not $15/month fine. I can get a couple of paperbacks for that much and they'd probably be better written.
    c) Because every line from every character is voice acted, there's simply no way that any developer could create content at even 1/50th the rate that the players consume it.

So, I never bought the game in the first place. It was a dead end from the start.

    Other problems.

    1. It was so easy to level when I played that game that I was able to go up 20 levels from simply travelling to different planets and exploring the maps to remove the "fog of war". No missions. No streetsweeping. Just walking around the zones.

    2. The voice acting didn't match up with the written text. You'd get three written options of what you could say, then once selected the voice frequently said something completely different.

How frickin hard is it to have the written text match what the damn voice actor is saying?

    3. The morality choices look like they were made by a demented 6 year old.

In one mission you were accused of being a tattletale for reporting soldiers that were running civilians thru an obstacle course in a minefield and taking bets on their survival.

Another you were the "bad guy" if you retrieved stolen medical supplies that wre needed to treat patients that were going to die without the medicine, because the person that stole the supplies was going to give them to people that were sick but in no immediate danger of dying.

    4. The lack of a decent costume creator. In a game where you should have been able to make thousands of custome "alien" avatars, you were instead forced to choose between:

    Human
    Blind Human
    Human with Cybernetic eyes
    Red Human
    Blue Human
    Green Human
    Albino Human
    Human with horns
    Twi'lek

    5. After the starter zone, every single player was forced to run the exact same linear missions/story-arc. The only difference was faction. See Praetoria for example.

So once you made a character for each faction and hit the level cap you experienced all the content the game had to offer.

No it isn't since the people that respec frequently have already gone thru all the trials, and burned thru all their vetspecs. (on certain characters)

That was the whole reason the devs started selling respecs in the first place, and then later added respec recipes, and most recently Enhancement Unslotters.

Even the 2nd and 3rd builds could be used to fix/change a build without having to burn a respec.

Personally I don't understand this compulsion to frequently respec. I have 8 year old characters that still have their vetspecs and haven't gone thru a single respec trial.

The IO's I use are basic ones and the number of alts I have (out of nearly 200) that are completely IO'd out are in the single digits.

But people enjoy different aspects of the game.

    Some enjoy PvP
    Some enjoy farming
    Some enjoy the market
    Some enjoy RP
and some enjoy the challenge of constantly tweaking builds to make the most powerful characters.

"Your proposed idea would force you to deal with a mild inconvenience you already deal with under the current system anyway" just isn't a particularly strong objection, is all I'm saying.

It's not my proposed idea. I'm just pointing out one of the worst case financial flaws of the OP's suggestion.

I feel the same way you both do about it. In fact I've suggested several times it would be easier for the devs to simply make the badges global so the badgers wouldn't lose any of their unique badges they're afraid of losing.

As to the idea itself. I can only see the devs doing it if they sold it in bundles and instantly added the time to the account and activated it upon purchase.

$7.50 for two weeks sold and used in a bundle of 2.

$3.75 per week sold and used in a bundle of 4.

$.50 cents per day sold and used in a bundle of 30.

It never hurts to post the product description from the store. I can recall two times I've seen threads made by people that bought the Starter Kit who didn't bother to read it before buying and were pissed off they couldn't use it on their "old" account. They just heard about the sale on the forums and bought it without reading further.

I still have the screen shots from the Nov sale that I posted in the one guys thread when he claimed the Starter Kit product information didn't explain that it could only be used on a new account.

I think powerset respecs are rather unnecessary and undesirable, and unlikely to happen for all the reasons described. Just pointing out that your example of why it would be "horrible" is rather flawed.

Right and we've never seen angry threads made where people were complaining about how they have to strip their purpled out builds and start over from scratch because of a change made to a few powers in a set or the introduction of a brand new power set.

There's more than a few players that are obsessed with mini-maxing their builds with uber enhancements and many aren't 8 year vets sitting on a stack of unused vetspecs.

Or have you guys forgotten the nerdrage that went on just a few months back when the devs didn't give out a freespec with the last issue that went live?

Far to many players have burned thru all of their other respecs and rely on the freespecs because they can't afford or are unwilling to buy respecs from the store.

    That's my point Dark.

When they added the Roman costume pieces, I couldn't get the toga, sandals, and victory laural I needed for the basic costume until the following February.

That's why I waited a year to create the character.

It could be as easy as creating a new toon, but with most characters there are a lot of experiences and memories (and of course, badges) that can't be replaced or recreated. Let's just say if I wanted to change her secondary from Empathy to Darkness Affinity, then I could go to the Paragon Market, drop 1000 points (or so), and be able to spec into the power set of my choice. You could also be able to change the primary power set within the same archetype. Maybe 1000 per power set changed or even a "bundle" price for both...?

Just one amongst a gazillion ideas, but hey, let's hear what you think! <3
Let's assume the devs were actually willing to add this feature. They're not, but let's assume they are just to demonstrate why this is a horrible idea.

Did you stop to consider what will happen to all the IO's, ATO's, and Attuned IO's?

The average level 50 character has 100+ enhancements slotted on a single build.

A single respec costs $9.99 and only allows 10 enhancements to be pulled from a build.

So that means it's going to cost a level 50 character over $100 dollars to salvage his hard earned enhancements if he changes power sets.

Over $200 bucks if he's using dual builds.

Over $300 bucks if he's using the third build he got for unlocking Incarnate content.

Players can increase the number of enhancements that can be pulled off of a build during a respec by purchasing up to 4 extra trays at a price of $20 bucks per build.

That means after spending $80 bucks he can strip a single build for only an aditional $30 bucks.

$60 bucks to strip 2 builds.

$90 bucks to strip 3 builds.

Then theres the fact Positron stated during one of the previous Ustreams that giving players the ability to change power sets would be so much work that he had no idea what they'd have to charge for that option to make it worthwhile to even begin to start on such a project.

So your idea that a token would cost 1000 points is at best wishful thinking. If you were lucky it would cost $50 to $100 bucks.

Not trying to be mean, just pointing out the financial cost. I'm sorry but I don't see anyone but the richest or dumbest of players ever choosing to change power sets instead of the much more inexpensive method of creating a new character.

When you compare what we already know is going to be in Super Pack set #2 there is a huge amount of overlap with what was already in set #1. It seems like it would actually be relatively easy for the Devs to eventually sell -everything- that makes a specific set unique in the Market long after it is considered "old" and replaced by whatever the latest set is..
Sure if the player base was stagnant then yes super packs would get old. However that isn't the case. We are constantly getting new players who have never seen any of the packs before. We will always have players that view the packs as new shinies.

    Just pointing that out.
