Quote:Sorry but I never said the game would last for years after Freedom launched. So once again you are wrong. That doesn't however change the fact that the switch to the Hybrid model made more money than ever before. The simple fact that the amount of content being added to the game is proof they were making more money than ever before. And they flat out admitted that the Super Packs brought in over half a million only a few months after it was released.Sure, that is a long time but it did not last years from Freedom whenever the topic of population came up. See, I can chose a timeframe and make it fit my argument too.
You are wrong again. Keep trying as I'm here for good. Oh wait, I'm here until the game shuts down that you indicated was healthy and would last for years longer.
Now if you pointed out that I predicted the game would never go F2P then you'd be right, but I admit I was wrong on that count. -
Unfortunately I had already purchased the game and it's too late to cancel it. Had I known they were going to drop CoH in the way they have they'd have never gotten my money.
-
Quote:I never predicted anything. You did with the this game will last for years attitude. LOL
I'm sad the game is closing but I'm not sad you are wrong.
News Flash, at the time it shuts down the game will have lasted 8 1/2 years. That by definition proves the accuracy of any prediction that the game will last for years.
So once again you are wrong. -
Already bought GW2 and have LTS's to STO and CO, along with free accounts at DDO, AoC, and LOTRO, but I'll probably never spend a dime on another game made by NCSoft, Cryptic, or BW for that matter after the stunts those three companies have pulled on their customers.
Edit: Secret World has a bunch of CoH people there and while it's no CoH I'm enjoying a completely different game experience. -
Since you will soon be looking for a new game to predict will fail because of population issues, I strongly recommend you go to SWTOR. Not only will it be free to play very shortly, but there your predictions will actually be true.

Quote:I didn't imply anything incorrectly. This is your post making incorrect implications not mine.I didn't say that. You implied it and incorrectly. I just said the game was closing and where were the guys that said it would last a few more years.
You were wrong. Get over it.
You're wrong. But please continue to rage against the dying of the light. There's always hope someone might believe you. -
Get over it. The game isn't shutting down because it failed. It's shutting down because NCSoft screwed up in other games, and it's easier to cut losses here than in those games.
-
Quote:Cut the small guys to save money because while they aren''t losing any money, they aren't making ENOUGH profit. They still hope they can turn around losses on the big money makers.Between fumbling Aion and Blade & Soul, NCSoft lost $6 million last quarter.
So of course they kill City.
I've seen it happen in business all the time. -
Quote:Thank you.He isn't actually. NCSoft isn't cutting the game because it is losing money. I would guess that the costs associated with starting GW2 were enough that they want to cut something to make their books look better. And sadly for us they appear to be cutting Paragon Studios and COH.
-
Quote:No you are obviously wrong. The articles already out there that the losses they suffered are from their other games.Whatever. You are obviously WRONG!!!
Now, I get to say I'm really tired of hearing from people like you and will be glad to say so until this game closes. You are finally off ignore. Laughable that you are still trying to spin things.
NCsoft may have more banking on Guild Wars 2 than once thought. The mega-publisher announced that its second quarter earnings were lower than expected; it posted a$6 million loss for the period.
Revenues were down 12% from last year to $130 million, of which a vast majority came from NCsoft's online titles. The company stated that it dipped into the red due to rising labor costs, an increased marketing budget for Blade & Soul's Korean launch, and the acquisition of Ntreev. Aion was also blamed for the company's financial woes, as revenues in that title sharply decreased due to fewer microtransaction sales.
BothLineage titles composed a great share of the company's revenues, with the first game producing 45% of sales and the sequel 13%.
NCsoft said that it is banking on Guild Wars 2 to produce a profitable third quarter, however.
Notice there is no mention of CoH losing them money.

But you haters have always believed what you wanted. Your antics have always been amusing here. -
The game is healthy. NCSoft's cutting us because of losses in their other games.

Quote:Well this is... Confusing. So, we had coffee talk yesterday talking about the new Tech Knight set, and now this? Aren't those things typically decided in advance? And why do something like this? I thought the point of reinvesting in City of Heroes was because it had a stable player base that generated consistent income. What happened to that?
Nuclear Toast brought this up to me, and I thought it must be a joke or a troll, but it seems legit. Which just makes it all the more confusing. What, exactly, do NCsoft have that's generating revenue right now. I can't imagine it's Aion and it sure as hell can't be Lineage II. They already killed Auto Assault and Tabula Rasa years and years ago. And if they're putting all their eggs in the Guild Wars 2 basket, I've tried that game and I don't see it killing WoW. A rabid-fan friend of mine bought it on day one and I can play it on his account for free since he mostly plays on my PC anyway and I'm not that interested. I mean, DC and Star Wars got a pretty stellar start and look what happened to them.
You know what I said about the coffee talks only taking place when there's something to say? Yeah, now would be a good time to have one.
I would guess Paragon Studios was only just told about this today. It's not the first time I've seen corporate stooges do a ninja shutdown. There was a company in my hometown a couple years ago that shut down it's offices over the weekend and shipped everything to Mexico. When the employees came back Monday they found an empty office building. -

Nope.
Quote:This morning we announced that Paragon Studios will be taking to the skies of City of Heroes for the last time.
In a realignment of company focus and publishing support, NCsoft has made the decision to close Paragon Studios. Effective immediately, all development on City of Heroes will cease and we will begin preparations to sunset the world’s first, and best, Super Hero MMORPG before the end of the year. As part of this, all recurring subscription billing and Paragon Market purchasing will be discontinued effective immediately. We will have more information regarding a detailed timeline for the cessation of services and what you can expect in game in the coming weeks.
The team here at Paragon deserves special praise for all that we have accomplished over the last 5+ years. These developers are some of the most creative and talented people in the gaming industry. By now, we’ve all been given this news internally, but to anyone who may be reading this message after the fact; know that your hard work and dedication has not gone unappreciated or unnoticed. To any potential studios looking to grow your team; hire these people. You won’t regret it.
To our Community,
Thank you. Thank you for your years of support. You’ve been with us every step of the way, sharing in our challenges, encouraging us to make City of Heroes better, more than everyone else thought it could be. We couldn’t have come this far without you. I implore you all, focus on the good things of CoH and Paragon Studios. Don’t dwell on the “how” or the “why”, but rather join us in celebrating the legacy of an amazing partnership between the players and the development team.
Thank you, and I’ll see you in the skies, one last time.

As for me I guess I'll be playing GW2 from now on. -

Quote:Nope, it hasn't. Last post was August 10th, 2012.

So you could have read that thread and added to it without it being a necropost.
So this thread brings the total up to 17 threads requesting name wipes in the past year. -
While I like the auto-paying idea I think that if it were added the devs would lock it behind VIP status and be designed to cancel as soon as an account went inactive in order to prevent it from being used by Freem/Prem accounts that are currently blocked from paying rent because they aren't VIP's.
-
This pretty much describes how we ended up with the store we have.
You can guess which two the company chose. -
Their just feeding us a line of bull. On one hand they tell us they implemented the Super Leader rank so CS could avoid getting involved in internal SG politics, then turn around and say can't give Super Leaders an SG rename token because SG's are group oriented content and it would involve CS in internal SG politics.
-
Quote:If you have the red star simply boot everyone. CS will back you up by not getting involved. As far as they are concerned you own everything in the SG/Base and can do as you like. It'd be a P.I.T.A., but if you were conscerned about losing the lump sum of loot within the base (and had the patience to re-build up prestige), then you could start a new SG and gradually move stuff from the one base to the new one. Once the move was complete, then you could kick everybody out, and then quit the group. That would solve the issue in a long round about way. Unfortunately you lose all the prestige related stuff from the first base/group.
If you aren't the red star you would need some warning this could happen and retain storage permissions allowing you to take stuff out.
A Red Star making a power play isn't likely to give you that kind of notice. -
Yes we'd all like this but here's the devs responses on the subject.
Quote:Gifting/Paragon Market suggestions
From the Sept 13 Part 1 of extended server downtime Coffee Chat:
They won't allow gifting of paragon points until their customer service department is satisfied that it can't be taken advantage of.
(TJ's take on this: Blame NCSoft CS, not PS).
From the August 17 Dev Chat (Z had no coffee that day, so they didn't call it a Coffee Chat):
Milkweasel " For those of us who don't use or desire server transfers, would it be possible to grant a choice of a reward for VIP rather than the transfer? (rename, respec, char slot, transfer, some PP)"
Posi: "We can't do it unfortunately. We know not everyone will use them. But if you have friends come in and they like go on Freedom and you have nothing on Freedom you can move over."
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?p=4353051#post4353051
Furthermore if the devs ever did get approval to develop gifting, it probably wouldn't be done thru the Paragon store because the devs didn't create that software. They bought the program for the Paragon Store from another company and they don't have any legal right to make changes to it. The devs can't even do normal maintenance on the store. They have to let the other company come in and do it.
Quote:Hi guys,
We don't anticipate there being any issues that would prevent previously purchased items from being available. The maintenance is being carried out by the third party that runs the Paragon Market back-end, and is not taking place within Paragon.
Thanks!

Quote:Oh I remember a thread about this tho I can't which redname was giving us the run around. I went digging around for the original redname post that told the people in the base builders section of the forums that the player with the red star was the defacto owner of the SG so CS wouldn't have to get involved in internal politics/squabbling..... wasn't this an argument with Zwizzleztick?
I think this was the topic that was brought up and he ended up bringing up the "But who gets to decide" - to which multiple people (including me) mentioned being the *entire reason* we were given for the red-star rank - a single point of contact and single person of responsibility for CS issues.
Which, to me, includes renames. -
Quote:No one has to read all 5 pages of the thread to see the OP's posts, nor do most foruim members simply jump to the end and go off uninformed.I was going to say that no one would read 25 pages of this, then realized everyone just goes to the last page. Torches, Pitchforks, ready, and "Roll em!"
They only have to click on a posters name
then select "view more posts by"
And that gives them a list of the forum members posts. Then all one has to do is scan the name of the thread and quickly review what he or she has said.
It's a quick and easy method to keep track of a threads development.
