Respectfully I don't think it's a fair assessment to say that the generic person who kicks someone from a "private" league is having a tantrum when he does it. I only used that term because you used it yourself.

Quote:Ah, I see. When I saw your comments about having valid reasons to choose to kick someone from a team they reminded me of the other persons post in the suggestions section on the same topic and the similarities made me smile. I thought you'd see and appreciate that it was a good real world example of what you were saying about someone having a valid reason to choose to ask someone to leave an event, and the emote was supposed to indicate there was no hostility being directed towards you, if anything some playfulness.I meant what was your point in posting my quote and the other quote.
You seemed to be implying something I had not written about.
What cheeky/playful demeanorish point did you mean?
Another example would be a group of friends sit down at a large table in a diner and theres an extra seat. Now if some stranger showed up and sat down at the table with them no one would think they were being rude if they told him to leave. And if the stranger tried to argue that the owners of the diner put the chair there for anyone to use so they have no right to ask him to leave their table, he would be the one labeled the obnoxious jerkwad. -

Quote:To be fair Hyper it could be said that you and Snow are having a tantrum because the devs made a queue that adds players to leagues and then threw you a curve ball by allowing the team leaders to customize their leagues by including the ability to kick people they don't want added to the league.I'm sorry, but you're about as wrong as possible on this as can be without imploding into a singularity of wrong.
Life threw you a curve ball. Instead of simply playing the game, you (generic you) had a tantrum and booted someone who only wants to play the damn game.
Simply because the universe didn't align itself to your will.
If the devs didn't want team leaders to be able to kick people once the raid started they wouldn't have included the kick feature. -

Quote:It isn't the devs fault you don't read the announcements. They could give away freebies and I'd never know it. I somehow missed the half-price transfer announcement. There have been a number of things lately that haven't been communicated all that well to the community.

Quote:It is still your want. You may have your varied, excellent and valid reasons, but you are not being forced to kick players. It is a choice.
No matter what CAPSLOCK argument you use.Quote:When and where is your next birthday party? You can't refuse to answer, either.
I'm coming. Have beer for me.
And, you're a jerk if you say no and throw me out. -
Quote:You mean something that very clearly crosses the line like this?...
And after taking your swipe, you say:
Riiiight. You can make your comment, but others shouldn't.
With all due respect Zombie, I think you misunderstood my statement. I wasn't taking a swipe at any religions but at the people who are intolerant of others beliefs and use religion to justify their hate. -
Quote:Free accounts being basically a trial account with no "expiration" date. What do you guys think of the pros as well as the cons IF they were to implement this new trial system?
The pros I'm seeing are, besides the free part, that there will be a lot more people trying the game, old friends/past subscribers coming back and there will be pretty much a near unlimited teaming on the lower levels across all the servers (for those taking a break from level 50 contents).
The cons, pretty much that lapsed accounts will have the restrictions of a trial account and not being able to access alts that are level (not sure if trial accounts goes past level 14) 15s and up, and that influence/infamy/information beyond 50k will be halted. If for example a lowbie character has already more than 50k of inf. on them, and the account goes into the "free" phase, they won't lose anything, just wont be able to earn more.
So yay or nay for free* accounts?
You may or may not be aware of this but our trial accounts were being horribly abused by RMT sites. It was so bad that the devs were forced to impose the drastic limitations they currently have.
I can't speak for everyone but personally I have no desire to go back to those days where I was constantly being harrassed by RMTer's.
Please don't be offended by anyone who disagrees with this idea. Some of us can be very emotional about our dislike for what it was like when the RMTer's had free reign.
Our disagreement isn't personal, and I know I look forward to any of your future ideas. -
Quote:I'm sorry if my comment may have lead you or anyone else to that conclusion. That was not my intent. I was just suggesting a change of focus to prevent the chance of accidentally crossing a line the mods might choose to act on.Just to be clear, my post had nothing to do with debating religion or wasn't intended to be or say anything more than it did and only pertaining to the OP and the discussion of this thread. So please noone take it for more than was written. (Not a fan of discussing politics or religion online anyway.)
We were very lucky the other day when they chose to let us briefly discuss a current event that had it's roots in religion and since I don't see the thread around I think they decided to remove it. -
Quote:We don't know and the devs will never tell us. When the devs changed Mystic Fortune so it couldn't be denied there was only a few vocal players that requested it get changed back and the devs complied. The same goes for the Market 60 day rule. Only a few morons couldn't be bothered to read the instructions that told them that if they left items in the market for more than 60 days they would be deleted. Yet the devs listened to the players input and removed the 60 day rule from the game altogether. How few is too few? 10,000, 1000, 100, or 1? At what point does the player base/devs ignore this?
Oh and don't assume that people sharing Snow Globes opinions are the majority. None of us have any hard numbers on which side has the most support so for all we know the people supporting private leagues are the majority and the devs will ignore the other side.
Personally I've agreed with Snow and Hyper on many topics in the past, but in this case I disagree with them. -
Quote:Actually I think our GM's will first pull up the chatlogs to see if the team leader acted in a petitionable manner.This. I think the person who thinks this would actually happen is high. . .
I also think the GM who gets such a petition request would also be Laughing their *** off reading it.
It's as silly as someone petitioning someone for killing you in a pvp zone.
For example
Player A: Hey! Why did you kick me from the league?
Team Leader: I'm sorry but this particular league is a scheduled SG event for members only. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
GM then proceeds to close the petition with no action being taken. -
Quote:It doesn't matter because I'm going to have to use my omnipotence to veto NP getting that power. Not because of it's destructive capabilities. Not because of the aroma. Just because the world isn't ready to deal with him in assless pants.Going to have to explain that one since some people already have it. Are we talking about releasing methane, hydrogen or some other explosive gas and use a lighter to make the explosion or stealth farts that you can explode at will with either grenade or nuke levels of explosion?

Quote:The sad truth of the matter is that usually it's people that believe in god who can't accept/respect other peoples faith in religions that aren't their own.One can be an atheist yet still have/show respect for religion. They aren't mutually exclusive.
Anyway let's get off this topic before the mods feel the need to step in. -
Quote:Speaking as an avid soloer who is also a very casual player I don't find it very hard to level up new characters. The only reason most of my characters are in their mid twenties and thirties is because I embraced altitis. Now comes the complicated calculations of the value of time taken up levelling a new alt on an EU server versus the cost of transferring an alt already in progress.
For example my new project is leveling up the 16 new characters I made last week in Praetoria, (yes 16 new characters) in order to get the prestige bonus they will get when they hit 20 and join my new personal SG. Over half of them are complete with bios and all of them are already halfway to level 20.
I'm eagerly looking forward to the 4 new servers and 48 character slots.
Of course other players experiences at leveling may vary. -
Quote:Don't confuse my saying that being unwilling to pay for transfers is a bad thing. It's not. Being on a fixed income I completely understand that there are people just like myself that simply can't afford such an undertaking.Unwillingness is not the word, I had interest in move all my characters, but only with free transfers. Moving all my alts would be a lot of money.
I hope they change their minds and will offer us a week of free transfers after all the bugs, unexpected long mantenainces, server down we been suffering lately.
All I'm saying is that we aren't being told we can't do any transfers, and all along I have maintained that I think in this situation a few free transfers would be a good idea.
On a side note if I may make a comment objectively, If we do get the option to make some free transfers I think it may not be the best idea to move all of ones characters at once. Test the new servers out first. One server may look like a good idea but once there, a person may not like the general atmosphere. Don't make a huge move and then later regret it. -
Quote:Bingo! Is there some recognition by folks on either side of this debate that you're arguing over corner cases? Most of the time, this isn't a big deal. It's like anytime you're dealing with PUGs. Most experiences are fine, it's the few outliers that get your attention. But that doesn't change the fact that the bad experiences are the outliers.
Most people won't kick stragglers or care they got dumped into their trial.
But once in awhile you do get a group/league that does care and a league leader that has no compunction about kicking folks the LFG tools puts in their league. So long as that stays an uncommon occurrence (unlike uncommon drops, of course!) the devs are unlikely to do a darn thing about any of this.

Quote:When they first offered the free transfers people claimed everyone would move to Freedom and Virtue but that didn't happen, and when sideswitching went live people predicted redisde would die and that also didn't happen. So it's more likely that more NA players will open up alts on the EU servers than EU players will jump ship to the NA servers. They're probably worried that most EU players would immediately jump ship given the chance, but given the amount of grumbling the past few days about losing Globals and account login names - and even people saying they'd rather not have a server list merge thank you - I don't know why they would be!
-
Quote:Okay. I just didn't get that impression from the post I quoted. Sorry for the misunderstanding, it seems we actually agree that it would be a nice gesture.Oh I'm aware of all the positives for sure. Hell, before the details came out, I was pushing for the server list merge. But the way this has been handled has eroded a lot of the good will that some EU players had, myself included.
At such a momentous event, the bringing together of two communities separated for years, I would have thought that a period of free transfers would help encourage folk to move about a bit and see the other servers.
I wasn't expecting them but it would have made for a nice celebratory gesture. Oh well.
Hopefully they may reconsider or are just keeping it a tight held secret to be announced when the event goes live. -
Quote:All of this.I think you're getting thrown by your definition of the word sacrosanct.
Something being sacrosanct does not mean it's perfect to the exclusion of everything else. It simply means that it is something that shouldn't be questioned or dismissed as false. This is why you can easily have multiple religions all being sacrosanct all at the same time. Sure individual religions might teach that other religions are false, but that's their problem not the other religions'.
So the idea of a secular government allowing for the protection and tolerance of any religion's "sacrosanct-ness" is a perfectly reasonable concept. Like I said it's been working in the United States relatively well for over 200 years now. *shrugs*
Straczynski explored many different aspects of religion both good and bad. I was just making the point that despite his atheism it was actually quite interesting that he was willing to respectfully and seriously cover many religious topics that cast religion in both good and bad lights depending upon the context of the stories. Basically it was arguable that he handled religion in much more mature ways as an atheist than many actual religious people do. -
Quote:So you and Hyperstrike are saying that team leaders should be paid real world money as compensation for allowing random players onto their preformed leagues. Time and a half to be exact. That seems like a fair compromise that we can get behind.Quote:

And what hourly wage is the team leaders time worth for managing a group of people? Personally I wouldn't do it for less than $20 dollars an hour so with time and a half figured in $30 bucks an hour to run a BAF or LAM.
And will this compensation come as a check paid to the team leader or as credit to his account that he can use to pay for his sub fee or in the online store? -
Quote:And Wicked Wendy's response in that other thread gave a great explanation why a zone can't be compared to a raid.Actually it started with Arcanaville in post #15, well before I took it up.
Quote:Okay Bill tore this apart already but allow me to add my perspective. The Hive is a ZONE. even if there isn't a raid taking place I can enter and collect badges or just fly around exploring. The RWZ is a ZONE. Mothership RAIDS take place in it but it also has numerous contacts offering door missions and one giving out a task force. NO you can't kick a player out of those because they don't need to join a TEAM to get in.
Now Snow tell me exactly how many times you have gotten inside the BAF or Lambda Trial without joining a team attached to a league? Did you fly around and check out the place. Maybe head over and visit Siege in his office?
No because the ONLY way anyone can get into that MISSION that TRIAL is by joining a team. Which by the way is the same with the Terra Volta Trials, Eden Trials, Treespecs, the COP, etc. no one just waltzes inside and looks around. Heck to see the inside of a COP you not only need to join a team the SG sponsoring it needs the raid teleporter and the mission computer. Yeah go tell those guys after they spent the time and prestige to set up their base they don't have a say in who they invite.
You can't compare an unwanted player showing up in Eden for a Hami raid to players being assigned to an established league without the league leader having a say. As mentioned here repeatedly, and ignored completely by you, all any leader needs to do to avoid this is FILL a team to maximum before entering Q or kicking unwanted and uninvited players from the team once inside. So why not just avoid the hurt feelings and allow a lock that bars outsiders from joining once the league is set? It allows those leaders trying to avoid lag by staying at a set size to accomplish that with less grief and it protects those in the Q from being kicked because they weren't invited. I fail to see a down side here.
