Hey I'm not talking about people getting everything genericed as soon as their account goes inactive. That would be total BS. But somewhere between 90 days at the earliest and 6 months seems reasonable to me. After that the company has a business to run and should be concerned with people paying their subs.

Most likely answer is they don't have them working yet but will as soon as possible.

Quote:They get told the same thing we tell players who lost character names because their account was inactive when the devs ran the name freeing script. If that person came back to the game (if they're even gone) and posted on the forums because they lost their global handle because another player just happened to play longer, would that be your argument? Punishing someone for taking a break from the game is not the way to handle it.
They have no claim to any names if they aren't paying to keep their account active. Here's a free rename token, deal with it.
Punishing paying customers is worse than penalizing people who aren't even customers. -
Quote:In defence of Virtue (Cos she's lovely and all
) Is the US @Virtue still playing the game? Do they have over 75 months of Vet Rewards to show for it? How do you know they didn't play for 3 years and then drop their sub? Or even just a few months? Or even just a month??
Why should a long-temr player who has shown the loyalty to the game and paid her subs and dues, lose out to a player who may no longer be active?
If the US @Virtue has been there on global since it went live, then fair play, they can make a fair claim to the name, but without that evidence, Virt has every right to feel agrieved atm. I know I would have felt the same if it happened to me.
I suggested all the names being used on inactive accounts should have been freed up like they do with the character name script so anyone on the EU accounts would have gotten them if they were actively using them. -
Quote:Thank you, and that's plenty of time for an NA player to have gotten it first. If indeed that is what happened. As I said before unless they are in a situation like you yourself are in they have no idea who got a given name first and so really can't say a name was "pinched".Slight correction. The US players got Global Nmes and Global Chat with i3's launch, yes. But the EU version did not launch with them. It was several months later before we finally got them in the EU.
I strongly believe whoever got the name first should get to keep it. -
Quote:"Pinched"? I'm sorry that you had to go thru this Virtue but unless you are in a situation like Floating Fat Man and you had an NA account where you used that as your global name, then it isn't that hard to believe that an NA player chose that name for his own account first back in 2004 before the EU servers even launched.A lot of us have lost our globals, for 75 months I've been @virtue but needless to say I'm not any more. So from now on I guess I'll be Virtue_EU. Could those of you who have had their globals pinched by our cousins across the pond leave your details here?
And considering how often NA players complain about how hard it is to come up with character names because all the easy ones have been taken, it makes it much more believable that someone on the Virtue server grabbed @Virtue that first year because it's an obvious name to grab.
Again, sorry you had to go thru this and I look forward to seeing you on our servers. -
Quote:Sticking the food in the stasis pod would preserve it as-is. Namely, no freezer burn or post-defrosting sogginess. It appears to be a perfect preservation, unlike what tends to happen to vegetables when frozen in a method slower than flash-freezing.
Since the crew of the Destiny has the ability to manufacture hi tech parts out of unrefined ores they can cobble together what they need to do some food preservation. Even if they couldn't do that much they would have at least had plenty of time to relearn the simple techniques of salting, pickling, brining, and drying food.
They made a still for crying out loud. If they can figure out a way to make booze they can figure out how to make beef jerky and dried fruits and veggies.
And heaven forbid they hadn't learned those skills by now they just encountered their own descendants who were stranded on a world for 30 years after losing contact with Novis and they could have gotten those skills and equipment from them.
So there's no reason for them to use stasis pods as freezers. -
-
That makes as much sense as using snow making machines in Antarctica.
Why waste resources on life support keeping a stasis pod active to freeze food in when the same effect can be achieved by turning off life support in a storage room that can hold several hundred times more perishable supplies. -
Quote:How could they know if it would work or not when they never considered it in the first place. So your problem is that they didnt show them considering an option that they knew wouldnt work?
Quote:Now i will give you that for the colonists when they claimed the drain on resources the pods would have come in handy. But for the heat problems of being in the star, no, i have no problem with them not using them or even being considered.
Quote:Not to mention how fricken boring that episode would have been if you put everyone to sleep rather then having them fighting drones on the planet. -
Quote:Ya mean like this place? Which actually exists.I always thought it would be cool back in the day to own one of the decommissioned ICBM silos when they were going for a song back in the early 90s. Of course being a poor grad student at the time it certainly was not an option.
Now that would be a fortress to live in.
http://www.silohome.com/id22.htm
Now put the zombie home on top of this place and we have a nice fortress.
Of course the zombie house needs just a few changes.
1. Get rid of all the sliding doors and windows except for the drawbridge.
2. Where the hell is the concrete moat? Two of them in fact. One around the house itself and another just outside the property walls with another drawbridge.
3. Double the height and thickness of the property walls, and put a third floor on the house. And add some ramparts like Castles have.
4. The roof should have room for Windmills and solar panels for power, a helipad, and greehouse for growing plants.
5. Wherever the place is located it should have an indoor well sunk for a secure fresh water supply. -
Next they'll be complaining they didn't get this announcement.

This is the internet where opinions are in abundance and there will always be people complaining about something the company did or didn't do. It doesn't mean the people making the complaints are right, it just means it's another average day at the office.

Quote:They were pretty clear last week that the only way anyone would survive on the ship in the blue star was to be wearing a space suit on top of destiny's normal shielding and life support etc.
Im pretty sure i recall at one point them saying the inside of the ship was around 400 degrees. Statis tubes are i would imagine basicly closets. I double they would provide the protection or have the additional shielding that the space suits provided.
Just my thought on it, but still i didnt feel i had to let that slide, i just figured it wasnt an option.
Oh please they never even considered the stasis pods. They had plenty of time to check and repair them before they ever had to refuel at the blue star.
The stasis pods would have been great to use to safely transport the stranded colonists. They could have found out then that some needed repair and gotten them fixed before they even went to the blue star and had some of the material stored in case future repairs were needed.
With the gate destroyed and the drones gone they could have used the shuttles and stocked up on fresh food, put it into a cargo room and turned off life support so it would be frozen to last longer, and refueled Destiny at that star.
Then if they actually decided that the pods couldn't be used while refueling at the blue star then fine using the gate would be the next best choice.
Then this episode they could have simply put everyone into stasis and make the jump to the next galaxy without getting into the pointless fight with the drones and blowing up one of the shuttles. Or they could have continued on thru the galaxy by bypassing the motherships outside the path of the stargates at least until the drones figured out something was wrong and tried to find them again. The farther thru the galaxy they got the less time they'd have to spend in stasis when they made the jump to the next galaxy.
Now Mandu did make a valid argument for attacking the Motherships. Getting drones and reprogramming them would be a good idea to add to the ships defenses.
Of course the writers had to get rid of the shuttles or at least one of them because that makes the crew dependent on the stargates for supplies. Can't have people asking silly questions like, "Why don't they just use the shuttles?" or "Why don't they just use the stasis chambers until they find a place where they can resupply food and water?" or "If the planet has wild game they can hunt and eat, why don't they kill a bunch of alien deer and freeze it in an unused storage room by turning off the life support and take it out as needed." -
Geroge was right when he said:
“Just think of how stupid the average person is, and then realize half of them are even stupider!” -

What Bill and the others have said is right. -
That is always a possibility but I'm seeing more people in the various zones ever since GR went live, and the number of PM's and invites have increased a lot as well. And I rarely play during prime hours.

Quote:Personally I agree with you but I must admit I do get a kick out of watching people argue otherwise.Judging from the server statuses compared to last time they announced 120k, I don't see how anyone could figure 60-70k. I think the 140k is even being conservative, really.

Clarke's third law - Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
In these stories science/technology are interchangeable with magic and thus serve the same purpose. There is no double standard. -

People in my global channel have been reporting a lot of mapserving going on.

Okay just saw the first 5 minutes and I don't see how they are screwed. Put everyone into stasis and go to stars off the path that don't have motherships to refuel until they leave that galaxy.
Edit: Okay so instead of using common sense and doing the stasis/jump immediately they had to get the ship badly damaged first to make it a huge risk. <sigh> I'm glad this show was cancelled because the writers keep irritating the hell out of me.
