Quote:What does Incarnate Trials have to do with SG membership? And people couldn't understand why a month ago I said that I felt the Incarnate Trials were subverting SGs.
Global Channels have been around for years and years and have always been better for connecting with other players than SG's.
SG membership is capped at 150 and if it has maxed out it's Coalitions it can reach a max of 1,500 more players. And all of that is restricted to a single faction on a single server.
Global Channel communities is capped at 2,500 members. So a single Global already outclasses any SG/Coalition. Players can join 10 Global Channels so they have access to a community 25,000 players. Global Channels reach every faction and every server so players can log in and if things are dead in one location they can easily find out where people are and jump onto a character on another server or faction. -
Quote:Anyone else find it hilarious that his logic is so flawed that his number three his number two statement by providing the very reason SG's and Coalitions would be broken up and scattered due to a server merge and he doesn't realize it.2) Supergroups: Same as above for names. No reason why bases or Coalitions would be affected at all.
3) No automatic deletion/scattering of characters - all characters would be moved to the merged. If that causes slot overflow, no new characters can be made by that player on the newly merged server until they delete enough to bring them down to under their proper number of max slots (bought/free bonus slots from both old servers would, of course, be transferred over to the merged server; if that brings them over 36 slots, those excess slots would go back into the queue for placement elsewhere). Optional transfer tokens tied to the merged server (ie, can't be used on characters elsewhere) equal to their current overflow would be given.
Oh and the idea that players won't get pissed and cancel their subs if they are forced to delete characters because their accounts don't have enough slots after a merge rather than the system do it automatically is just as laughable. -

/signed for all the reasons listed by others, but if they don't do it for those reasons then at least get rid of post counts, forum titles, and join dates if for no other reason than to annoy the hell out of the people that use them to summarily dismiss anyone that disagrees with them.

Quote:And this is exactly what they did do. They apologised and gave everyone affected by the automatic renaming a "napkin" by means of a global rename token which those players can use to repair what was done to their global names. They can use the token to get as close to the original name as possible. Not satisfying but not as drastic a change that their friends won't recognize their names anymore. Or they can use the global rename token to start fresh with a completely new name. For those that say an apology need not be followed by action to be an apology, it's true but only if I believe that you meant it. If you spill a cup of coffee on me, say "Sorry" turn your back and walk away I would not believe you, ergo it would be empty words. If you stayed, said "Sorry, can I get you some napkins or something" I probably would and I would accept it since we all know that accidents happen.
No not everyone on the EU servers got a token because not everyone was entitled to one. Only the people that actually got renamed got it.
Quote:Since my feelings toward NCSoft is currently a bit on the bad side, "We're really sorry, we feel for you" feels a lot more like "Sorry" and turn your back, than a true apology.
Given the above, and since we all think we're the centre of the universe I assume that there are more people that feel like me. Hence a little something that shows that they care would make it much more probable that I would believe that they meant the apology. -
Quote:The numbers were up long before they merged the server lists last week.This. This game has carved a very very deep nitch in the market and for a 7 year old game with fairly outdated material in comparison to the new stuff to have (at the very least) 70K people is astounding. But it's more likely hovering around 150K due to the european servers practically being merged.
Quote:Personally, I'd like tostart seeing some server merges. I know a lot of people would scream 'doooom' but I think it would help get more people involved.
Yep everyone will be cheering the devs and singing kumbaya.
Quote:City of Heroes will be around for atleast another Decade before it finally dies. Hell! DAoC still gets updates and only about 2K people play a day! -
Quote:Simple answer.I suppose my main question is, why all of a sudden can I not find anyone to team with around my level? Is it a matter of luck? Or the level range I am in happens to be scarce?
1. Issue 20 Incarnates - Everyone and their brother is playing their level 50's.
2. EU players now have access to the 11 NA servers. Anyone not playing their level 50's is creating characters on the new servers and making new friends.
Once the new wears off of these two things people will return to their old stomping grounds. -
Quote:Actually, as far as the market merge, it went somewhat like:
- Posi (I believe) said "We've run the numbers (pre-GR) and don't like the projections for what would happen in a merged market."
- GR announced around the same time, with the suggestion of Vig/Rogue "Gun Runners" swapping sides.
- GR beta-ing. Third currency, third market. Beta players getting a bit irked at the (IIRC) "Well, when you switch sides, you'll still have your money, but you can't access it since it's a different currency."
- GR beta - (speculation) - getting a bit ridiculous with three markets, three currencies, and "what's available/what's not."
- Convenience of merging markets compared to complexity of system and player frustration outweighs projections of "ebilness," decision not to merge markets reversed. (Thinking the gleemail probably weighed in here as well.)
So, while they didn't say it *couldn't* happen beforehand, they said they wouldn't do so because it would make the situation worse. Things changed during development to make it a better idea to implement.
Actually I was thinking farther back to when they said that they'd like to merge the markets when the amount of available influence on both sides becomes more equalized. They were using the argument that back then merging the markets would make it impossible for villains to buy many items at the prices heroes were able to spend on them.
Of course once we had the ability to email inf to any faction that argument went out the window. -
Quote:Yeah I was pretty sure I saw Avatea say that they were giving those out only to the people affected by the automatic name change. So what we have here is not a case of the devs and rednames being callous and not showing they care like the OP is implying. And in fact they did give you something. A global rename! So your global could have been Capt Manny, and it got changed to EU_Capt Manny. Would you have preferred to stay EU_Capt Manny, or be able to change it to something a little more personal? And obviously "No, I'd have preferred to stay Capt Manny in the first place" is obviously not an option.

Quote:The devs never said the market merge or PPP respecs would never happen. They always said they'd like to do them but there were reasons that had to be resolved before they could be implemented.Real Numbers - Statesman told me point blank this would never happen
MoG getting fixed - Positron mocked me for even asking.
Market merge
PPP respecs - Not that they were very adamant about it
That's what I can think of off hand, if I gave it a bit I could think of more. -
Quote:You mean just like how both hero and villain feel repetitive after doing them so many times. Especially villains.I absolutely agree! I love several of the villain archetypes, but I really prefer the hero environments. Being able to roll up any sort on either side would be great. Praetoria is nice and all, but the storyline gets pretty repetitive after playing it so many times.

Quote:I didn't say I liked the nielsen system or that it wasn't flawed. What I said was that the thing I don't blame Syfy for is not counting the people that go to a completely different broadcaster to watch the show.Webcomic comment on the cancellation of SGU and the folly of the Nielsen rating system.
-
Quote:I believe the numbers that the Syfee rep said they were using were based on the air date +7 days. So everyone that tuned into SyFy the whole week after each episode to watch it.Yeah, that was pretty darn hilarious. Made me smile as well.
For SyFy's response, are they only counting people watching the TV at the time of the show's airing (not anything later)? Just curious, as I know I often pick up things later, and in the case of Stargate SG-1, I watched that puppy exclusively on DVD via NBC reruns, Netflix checkouts, and then buying the whole series on disc. If they're only counting ratings of the first viewing, that does discount a lot.
Now it only makes sense that they don't count people that go to their competitors to watch the show because they don't make money off of them (MGM made SGU not SyFy. So MGM makes money off of SyFy's competitors). Advertisers want to reach the most people for the money they spend on commercials, so if they have to choose between a show that draws 10 million people and a show that draws 2 million people then the channel with the low rating show loses out.
As unfortunate as it is that not all the fans get counted it's just good business to drop a show that isn't pulling in the ratings. -
Quote:Not sure what that has to do with this. My remark about being clueless was that the OP doesn't seem to be aware of how much work goes into creating new powersets. They require a lot of time, effort, and balancing which has to be fit into everything else the devs are doing. They simply can't toss new sets out every couple of months.Well, OP did ask on Player Questions first before coming here.

Quote:Oh I'm not being critical of people getting upset over the wait. I felt the same way a few years ago when I was on that end of the waiting list. Just observing why I think it's suited to be a reward while not commenting on where it's located on the list. The Guiness supping squirrel assumes correctly.
Sure, it has absolutely no effect on gameplay, but...
...Eh, actually, I guess it kinda makes sense. If every jack and his dog had it, then it would likely get a tad annoying after a while. Y'know, multicoloured names everywhere.
Doesn't mean I want them to set a trend of locking cool gubbins behind 84+ months, mind -
Never going to happen. There are too many unlockable items/features that are account specific and can't be transferred to accounts that haven't unlocked them yet.
-
It's an okay flick. Basically I see it as a SyFy quality flick with a budget big enough to do decent special effects.
-
Yes another very plausible possibility of what happened.

Or maybe, as several others have have already so charitably pointed out, people are just lazy and stupid.

Quote:Well they didn't know the show was going to be cancelled, and leaving people wondering what happened to Eli was intended to be the season two cliffhanger.I said that they might have had an idea that the show might end not that they weren't planning for a third season. It is the whole idea of hope for the best, but plan for the worst. The beauty of the series finale is that it works as a series finale or as a season finale. There is no cliffhanger so people aren't irritated about what will happen to save the crew. The third season premiere could have been included flashbacks of how Eli saved himself or a Kino message to the crew and Rush finds that Eli used the chair, but no sign of Eli anywhere.
If I was doing it, then I would set it so that the Destiny crew is woken up by the new inhabitants of Destiny. I seriously doubt that the Destiny crew was the first stowaways on Destiny and they won't be the last.
Quote:Crap. Just heard the news as well,David Blue (Eli Wallace) posted on his Twitter account. Apparently, nobody decided to tell us ahead of time. My rep heard it online. Seems they canceled SGU.
Look out for the back half [of Season Two," Blue added. "Really proud of it. Shame, because where they leave Eli is frakkin' cool. REALLY wanted to see where it went. But I appreciate all of your continuing support in all my future works, as well. Hope you'll come along for the ride!"Quote:"To find out SGU is canceled first from my tweeps is the power of Twitter," Ming-Na (Camille Wray) wrote. "I'll miss my SGU family very much! Thank you for your love and support!" Quote:"David Read from GateWorld called and informed me," stunt coordinator James Bamford wrote. "Moments later, it appears on Twitter ... Much LOVE to EVERYONE involved in the SG franchise. It has been an honor and pleasure working alongside you all." -

Quote:No the shows creators were hoping for at least a third season because they flat out told the fans that if the show was going to be cancelled they could wrap up all the plotlines in a third final season. What we got was the originally intended season ending cliffhanger. They might have had an idea that the series would be cancelled so they aired a season finale that could pass as a series finale if needed. Far safer to do that, then have a cliffhanger for a series finale like some shows I could name.
The SyFy channel sprung the cancellation on MGM after the second season had finished shooting and they were on break before starting the third season.
Quote:Executive producer and Gauntlet co-writer Joseph Mallozzi revealed on his blog that in the storys original pitch, the identity of the person who stayed outside of the pods came down to a coin-flip and was to be left ambiguous at the seasons end, setting up a fascinating character study for the start of Season Three.
The original pitch had Young and Rush as the last two men standing, Mallozzi said. With one, lone serviceable pod remaining, they argue, then make the decision to let fate decide. They flip a coin. Winner makes the sacrifice and stays out; loser goes into stasis. The coin flip is made and, as it descends, we FADE OUT, not knowing the results.
One of the possibilities this particular ending set up was a Season Three opener which finds Rush, three years later, a little loopy from his time alone. As he goes through his daily maintenance of the ships systems, he converses with members of the crew who, it turns out, are hallucinations. Suddenly, the gate activates. A bewildered Rush hurries to the gate room in time to see Telford lead a rescue op through. Turns out, after several years, Earth finally acquired a means to dialing Destiny. Of course, the rescue turns out to be short-lived as it ends up being a hallucination as well when, in the episodes final turn, we discover Rush in stasis (he was the one who lost the coin toss), evidently dreaming, while Young maintains the solitary existence as Destinys caretaker.
Eli contemplates what may be his brief future in the final moments of SGU's finale.
Mallozzi said that, while it was a cool idea, it suffered from a number of problems that eventually prompted the shows producers to rule it out. In addition to the fact that the antisocial Rush would be quite happy to live by himself on the ship, it suggested a season opener that was low on action.
Making Eli the one who sacrifices himself in the end brought the fan-favorite character to a new point of maturity, bringing his journey full circle.
In the full post, Mallozzi also discusses possible solutions to the conclusion that they ended up writing and filming. Though the writers hadnt settled on how to resolve the fate of Eli and the rest of the crew, or how much time would have passed when they woke up, they brainstormed a lot of different scenarios, including:
Eli fixes a pod
Eli taps some hitherto unexploited power reserve which allows him to extend life support for three years
Eli manages to survive the three-year trip by routing sufficient power to keep life support active in the shuttle
Eli fails to fix the pods or extend life support, so he survives by sitting in the chair and uploading his consciousness to Destinys computer
Rescue comes in the form of some outside force, such as a new portable power supply from Earth (which has figured out how to dial Destiny in the intervening three years) or an advanced military contingent of the crews descendants (from Common Descent and Epilogue)
