Quote:Was this the one you're talking about?Guys, can you link me to the laughing Sherlock Holmes and the giggling soldier(?) you used in that lovely thread Alphane started last week which is gone now? I wanted a copy of those but the thread, she is gone...
Thanks.
I remember posting this on in someones thread recently.
Oh and it's called "I'm so giddy I can't contain myself" -
Quote:It's called dark humor and it looks like everyone but one person understood that.LMAO you SHALL get your request granted come November 30, 2012 when the servers shut down for good. I just think it's funny you probably unknowingly posted this the same day it was announced that Paragon Studios was shut down by NC Soft and the game was being shut down for good.

Quote:Considering how many people emigrate to America legally and illegally each year to get a better life I tend to think the ones that "hate" us are just jealous. That **** happens in the US all the time, and people only hate us because we're boorish and ignorant.

Quote:I don't see how. I doubt an 8 year old super hero MMO interfered with any of their games. Maybe they had some say on telling NC Soft to make some changes to get them out of the red, being a large shareholder, and that lead to them dumping CoH. I somehow doubt that there are any underhanded conspiracies afoot with the shut down except for just the management of NC Soft making some arguably poor financially decisions that have greatly affected us and either they are desperate to get out of the red and/or they have NO idea how to shut down an IP gracefully.
/crazy rant on
Don't you see? It's Pearl Harbor all over again man! Only this time the Japanese are going after our video games! Call the CIA and tell them NCSoft is hiding weapons of mass destruction and shutting down CoH was a terrorist plot. It's such an obvious fabrication that they'll take it as the gospel truth and send in the Marines to keep the game running.
/crazy rant off
Who knows. Maybe it did maybe it didn't. -
Ya know since it's obvious that he hasn't heard the news you might want to be a little more informative.
Quote:Sorry for the double post.
I was messing around recently and figured out how to do a low-poly soft-body whip with very little code, it's mostly just rigging. As it's used it will take into effect air dampening of movement and deflection objects I suppose a box could be placed around each player/enemy and set to deflection that would allow players to interact with the whip's length as it's extended.
secondly, I got no response from the devs, I only contacted one though, but it appears I was ignored.. or maybe she was just too busy to have time to respond to such a complex issue.
when I get time I will make an .exe demo of a real-time whip, I'll just use characterkit as a base to save time so I don't have to model or rig a character. (goes to re-download it.)
Time is tight for me, I am currently taking care of business in the USA, soon I will be off to Scotland for other important things and britain after that..
then I will be back in the USA for 2 months with some time to work on things, followed by a return to Scotland, so I am quite busy. expect the demo sometime in October.
Quote:This morning we announced that Paragon Studios will be taking to the skies of City of Heroes for the last time.
In a realignment of company focus and publishing support, NCsoft has made the decision to close Paragon Studios. Effective immediately, all development on City of Heroes will cease and we will begin preparations to sunset the worlds first, and best, Super Hero MMORPG before the end of the year. As part of this, all recurring subscription billing and Paragon Market purchasing will be discontinued effective immediately. We will have more information regarding a detailed timeline for the cessation of services and what you can expect in game in the coming weeks.
The team here at Paragon deserves special praise for all that we have accomplished over the last 5+ years. These developers are some of the most creative and talented people in the gaming industry. By now, weve all been given this news internally, but to anyone who may be reading this message after the fact; know that your hard work and dedication has not gone unappreciated or unnoticed. To any potential studios looking to grow your team; hire these people. You wont regret it.
To our Community,
Thank you. Thank you for your years of support. Youve been with us every step of the way, sharing in our challenges, encouraging us to make City of Heroes better, more than everyone else thought it could be. We couldnt have come this far without you. I implore you all, focus on the good things of CoH and Paragon Studios. Dont dwell on the how or the why, but rather join us in celebrating the legacy of an amazing partnership between the players and the development team.
Thank you, and Ill see you in the skies, one last time.

Can't speak for everyone, but I'm blaming everyone because I'm pissed off. I'm even blaming those guys that kept casting Speed Boost on me when I didn't want it.
Quote:Although, someone posted that how can a game making a profit impinge on the companys botton line negatively? That's a question that is confounding me.
Quote:If NC wanted to redirect Paragon Studios staff onto a project they thought may make more money, maybe I could see the business sense. But they let the devs go.
It's part of that creative accounting crap.
Quote:I think something completely different to money is behind this. But we may never know exactly what. -
Quote:I agree. How much the game was making is only a small part of it. It's far more likely that by using creative accounting NCSoft can make it look like they are "saving" more money by shutting us down. That's why I don't trust anything they put in their financial statements. And I honestly don't think it was the subs at all. Yes, maybe if we'd had several more thousands of subs we might not have gotten axed. But maybe we still would have. Maybe NCsoft was just looking for a reason to get rid of City of Heroes. Either way it doesn't matter, whats done is done.
This type of downsizing tomfoolery has been going on all over for decades. -

Quote:Changed my post because I don't want to start any more arguments in this thread.
Good idea, I was just about to point out that it wasn't ONE person not paying to play the game that caused these problems but HUNDREDS at least, more likely THOUSANDS that weren't paying to play. And again I'm not including the Prems that supported the game thru the store. Just the deadbeat freeloaders that weren't spending a dime. -
Quote:I never said I only ate 1 meal a day, nor did I say that $15 bucks was my entire budget for groceries. I said that $15 bucks buys me food for almost 2 1/2 months. They're not engineering students, I'll tell you that.
You would live on one packet of Ramen noodles per day? Freakin' stupid people.
Also, I'm type-1 diabetic, I have dietary needs that can't be met by a Ramen-a-day diet. Admittedly, no human being on Earth could survive on one Ramen per day, so I think you're being pretty damn disingenuous for the purpose of argumentation.
Unlike you I shop wisely and make bulk purchases of inexpensive food items that last for months.
I also grow my own berries, vegetables, and herbs. I learned how to can and make preserves as a kid with my aunt, but anyone can do the same.
Nope the only person being disingenuous is you for making assumptions.

Quote:I know plenty of college students working multiple jobs while attending college full time, maintaining high grades and supporting a family to boot and maintaining their video game habits. You know what fifteen bucks is to me? A week's worth of food. I'm a college student. I have to pay in thousands and thousands and even more thousands to rent, tuition, books, my medical bills, and other expenses. No whiny excuses here. If I'd sustained my subscription, I would literally not be here right now. It came down to me having about a hundred dollars in the bank when I moved down here to Austin, and that's only because a friend gave me five hundred. So in short, just because you have a "fixed income" doesn't mean you were at the bottom of the rung. I was - because I had no income.
People that chose not to pay made a choice. Now the consequences that choice have come back and bit everyone on the ***.
Edit: Oh and that $15 bucks is 72 packs of Ramen noodles or 72 meals. That $15 bucks buys me food for almost 2 1/2 months. -
-
Quote:Fixed that for you so you get the actual sentiment.Sheesh. Listen to yourselves.
"People were playing a free to play game for free and not spending money! Those freeloading deadbeat bastards!"
Oh and if you don't like what you're reading my friend Batman wants to show you something.
-
Quote:Yeah? I've been living on a fixed income for years and I never once allowed my sub to lapse. I've done whatever it took to scrounge up $15 bucks each month.Hi. Some of us have other responsibilities than paying for a game that they're not currently playing. Like, say, eating. Doesn't cheapen the love, it's just called reality.
Whiny excuses don't fly. -
Quote:I wouldn't go so far as to call anyone a freeloader anyway. Those "freeloaders" are the people you are teaming with for TF's and making your community better. Give them a good enough experience and they become paying members or encourage their friends to join.
Except many didn't. In fact after years of providing them with the best MMO experience out there, they jumped at the chance to cancel their subs.
I even recall one person complaining how he couldn't afford to buy stuff from the store because he only made 70k a year.
Deadbeats are deadbeats.
No not every Prem was a freeloading deadbeat and it certainly isn't fair to lump them all under one overly broad generalization because many Prems spent more on the game each month buying stuff from the store than they would have just subscribing, but pretending there weren't any freeloading deadbeats is just foolishness. -
No.
As has already been pointed out their forums were closed before the announcement was made to close CoH. In fact their forums were closed back at the beginning of August when I first made my prepurchase of GW2 and registered my account info.
If their forums were ever open it was only to beta testers. -
Not buying anything put out by NCSoft at this point. They've had plenty of time to cook their books in order to justify what they've done to us in order to losses elsewhere look less serious.
Now if that financial information was put forth by a legitimate and unbiased third party doing an audit of NCSoft, I'd believe it. -
Considering that I got an email encouraging me to resubscribe in order to keep my VIP benefits after they told us they were cancelling all of our recurring subscriptions I doubt NCSoft will treat anyone fairly where refunds are concerned.
-
See ya round Bot. Hopefully we'll all meet up/stumble across each other in another MMO.

Quote:Who knows whats going on. If I were a conspiracy theorist I could even speculate there might be money being given to NCSoft by PW/Cryptic to shut down CoH.Oh I agree, the license certainly could be part of it. I just think that if Perfect World was playing with the license fee then NCSoft would be delighted to use it as an excuse.
It could simply be that there is an annual every 5 year license fee or something or that they had a contract for 5 years of licensing and after that they pay the yearly fee for the next year. And they simply don't want to pay the fee. In that case they would certainly keep quiet if the fee hasn't gone up but they don't want to pay it.
Given that the closure date is 5 years to day from the original buy out I don't rule out the license being tied into this somehow. -
Quote:Okay 5 years to the month. Feel better now? This also doesn't pass the sniff test. CoH was bought on Nov 6th. The game goes till Nov 30th. That means there's a 24 day period in which NCSoft is supposedly using the Cryptic engine without permission. If it were the engine license, it would be shut down on or before the 6th.
