    I disagree.

*Not* selling them, though, and just adding it to the menu is a far better idea.
Not having to pay for anything would be great but the game is better off when it's making money.

You've done the first, which is fine - have a question, ask it! Don't do the second, it's tacky and post count really does mean nothing.

I really hate that guy's work, apparently.
When you say the films of your youth I hope you mean movies other than Star Trek, because there has only been 1 decent Star Trek movie ever made and that was "The Wrath of Khan" Every other Star Trek movie before and after belongs in the same steaming pile of excrement as "Highlander 2".

It has nothing to do with control. The problem I have with the scene as a kid lies with the fact that he made no attempt to attack the man that murdered his mother in front of him. He didn't use his powers. He didn't throw a punch. He didn't bite him. He didn't kick him. He lashed out at everything and everyone in the room but Shaw. As far as I'm concerned it's not believable and it ruins the scene for me. You are free to have a different opinion but you aren't going to change my mind.

So you never paid any attention to builds before Fitness became inherent? Because as others have already said this is how it has always worked. Sorry to hear you are only just noticing it after seven years.

I'm certain there was no purpose to causing the metal objects in the test lab fly in circles: that's clearly just Magneto's powers going wild.

Shaw probably figured - and probably correctly - that random electromagnetic power flung around by Erik was no serious threat to him, nor were metal objects moving at any conventional speed. An exploding grenade and a hail of bullets meant nothing to him, a bunch of flung metal wouldn't either. Shaw's later actions clearly project a not-conservative person. He couldn't be *sure* of being able to absorb Havok's energy either, but he was infinitely confident in his abilities.
I respect your point of view but I still disagree with it. I just don't find that scene believable.

    1. Sorry but Shaw had no clue as to the scope of Erics powers. So having that much metal so close to Eric was foohardy at best. Many of the items Eric was manipulating while larger than a coin were much smaller than the gates he crushed outside. Common sense dictates that if Eric could crush the gates he could manipulate the metal knives, guns, and other instruments. Edit: For all Shaw knew Eric could violently rip the very iron from his body which probably would have killed him either from having the iron ripeed out of his body or from bleeding because without iron you can't stop bleeding. And the iron in our bodies is much smaller than a coin.

    2. Eric wasn't just crushing metal at that point. He tore the drawers of the filing cabinets open before crushing the cabinet itself and he was hurling metal tables and other objects around the room.

Nothing was stopping him from trying to attack the nazi <bleep> that just murdered his mother. He was thinking clearly enough when he turned and killed the guards by crushing their helmets but ignored Shaw who actually pulled the trigger. Pure bull.

Now if he had attacked Shaw and Shaw used his mutant ability to absorb the attack that would have been completely different. Then we could believe/understand if Eric in shock stopped realizing Shaw was just like him.

I'd say that Magnetos powers are so strong that he can manipulate ferrous metals as well as paramagnetic metals and even which require his ability to apply an external magnetic force, and even diamagnetic materials which are repelled by magnetic forces.

No I didn't. Your example was silly because players don't need an item that bestows a weak healing power because there are powers in the power pools they grant any character healing abilities

which shows that , from the outset, I in no way suggested that I would wish for a tank with a ranged attack to be as effective as a blaster or any other toon for whom ranged is an importnat part of their powerset. an sentiment I have repeated many times so far in this thread and repeat here.
It doesn't matter if a melee character isn't as good as a pure ranged character. Tankmaging is the attempt to make a character that doesn't have any weaknesses

    Quote:
additionally, "like temporary powers" does nto mean "the same as" temporary powers. I suggested that they be slottable with a restricted set of enhancements capped at a level that I offered as a suggestion.
No it doesn't. You threw that argument in there as a red herring.

We don't need items because we already have temp powers that serve the same purpose and don't gimp players builds by making them sacrifice powers. Furthermore we already have Power Pools which aren't as powerful as primary/secondaries and are slottable that allow players to customize their characters builds.

So adding a new feature that duplicates temp powers and power pools is an unnecessary waste of time and resources.

Not allowing IO sets that give set bonuses and procs cuts out a form of abuse, which I have already posted.
And not adding an unnecessary feature that already exists in the game also prevents abuse.

[quote]Do many people cap enhancements at 30 for themselves? maybe they do. Is that a reason to claim a suggested cap of 30 is an attempt at tank magery? I dont think so, what level would you suggest?/quote]

    Fail.

I never said that your suggested level cap was an attempt at Tankmagery. I asked for confirmation from other forum members if my memory was correct on the level of enhancements some players choose to use to get the best results when exemplaring. If my memory is correct then it seems quite a coincidence that you arbitrarily chose that level as the limit.

    Quote:
I think you need to re-examine your definition of tank-magery because I see a difference between versatility and master-of-all-trades.
No I don't. If you want that kind of "versatility" you are free to play that other super hero MMO that allows that it. Of course that type of "versatility" was so popular the game was forced to go F2P from lack of players and they instituted Archetypes similar to this game.

Classic KittyCrusader complex. It's not complicated because the OP says it isn't complicated.

Sounds suspiciously like an attempt at getting tankmagery added to the game. If it can be anything you want it to be, that is EXACTLY what it will be used for, and you should know that by now. Give people the option for power, they WILL abuse it. Look what happened with AE. "Write my own stories? Screw THAT, I'm gonna make a PL farm!"
Of course it's an attempt at tankmagery. The OP gave that away right away with this explanation.

    Quote:
Items are slottable but only with SOs of the same origin or generic IOs (accuracy, etc) and only to a maximum level of effectiveness (I was think max lvl 30 SO/IO but others may think otherwise). Once an item is removed from its item slot and put back on the shelf any enhancements are lost (consumed by the item?).

Item "bays" are slottable, up to a maximum of 6 the same as regular powers.
Even tho the OP attempts to argue that these "items" are similar to the temp powers that already exist in the game, when have we ever been able to slot temp powers with even 1 enhancement let alone 6.

Oh and I may be wrong about this but don't people that do a lot of exemping put a self imposed level cap on the enhancements they slot of 25 or 30?

Simple answer. When Charles and Magneto were questioning her Magneto cracked her diamond form which not only protected her body but was her defense against telepathy. So she was probably waiting patiently for that to heal. Breaking out before then would have her on the run from the very mutants that caused that injury and could take advantage of her telepathic weakness.

The only thing that realy bugged me in the movie was when Shaw killed Magnetos mother and the kid kills everyone in the room except Shaw. He doesn't even try.

The invention system improved the game. Your idea doesn't. In fact you admit that players that chose to use your suggested items would be gimping their builds by sacrificing up to 4 power choices.

    Quote:
You can only slot 4 items. total. maximum and to do that you sacrifice 4 power choices at a range of levels.
The temp powers that already exist in the game don't gimp players builds.

Theres no reason to create an unnecessarily complicated feature when they could be added as new temp powers

    No they don't.

There are no rules set in concrete that state Steampunk technology can only use lightning as energy weapons, and rockets have been around since 9th century China and are a perfect fit with Steampunk mechanology. They don't need to be self propelled by gas or steam power. They could simply be launched by steam power and then the rocket/missles internal thrust ignites once it's in the air.

And before someone complains that rockets aren't missles, the only difference between the two is that missles have a guidance system and Steampunk technology is a perfect platform to explain why a steampunk robot would have guided missles instead of unguided rockets.
