Quote:Didn't see anyone call the OP a whiner, and as to "The dev's said so, deal with it." Well that has always been valid. They have the ultimate veto power, and they are well within their rights to use it. Passing on information about what the devs have told us doesn't make anyone a bad person for doing it.On a side note: when did arguments such as "You're having a hissyfit, quit whining." and "The dev's said so, deal with it." become valid? Especially in regards to someone who is calmly presenting an idea they thought of, and simply asking for a bit of discussion. Not productive.

Quote:Yes you did.Im not sure we are in the same thread anymore. It takes a minimum of 4 days to switch alignments (after I hit 20). I can level from 1~17 (on any faction) in a day if I wanted. I didnt say anything about different factions leveling differently. At all.
Quote:Or I could just delete her and re roll, then get back to 17 in less time than it would take to switch sides.
Quote:I am comparing switching alignment vs re-rolling.
Quote:No I chose my powers, the game made me a villain.
Quote:lol I just made a suggestion and am now defending it because that is what this board is for IMO.
Quote:You are the one getting all combative over something that doesn't even affect anyone yet. -
No that's actually the opposite of what everyone has told you, but as usual you either dismiss and ignore anything that you don't want to hear, or you try to misinterpret what was actually said.

Quote:And you are wrong. We've had the ability to make heroic level 1 Corr/Brute/Doms for a year now.Making corruptors/brutes/doms available on heroside seems pretty big to me.
Quote:I understand that they dont want people switching back and forth, but I think this is different.
Quote:I have a corruptor that I managed to drag to lvl17. After I hit 20 I could spend ~1 hour a day for four days switching her to hero side. Or I could just delete her and re roll, then get back to 17 in less time than it would take to switch sides.
The "problem" exists between your chair and your keyboard. The devs aren't responsible for "fixing" your hangups.
Quote:Im already changing alignment in 1 day against the devs wishes, but it is still inconvenient for me.
All deleting does is remove the character from your character list and flag the name as free to use. At worst you'll get a free name change token when the character is restored.
Quote:The way I see it, Im not really switching alignments. Im bringing my old character inline with the new gameplan.
Quote:They gave me a free respec when stamina went inherent so I could update my character to the new game without putting extra effort in. Now I think it would be nice if they let me make my character be a hero retroactively.
Quote:The character development is the part I disagree with. I have heroes that fight crime in the rogue isles, because the game forced me to make them there. In the future that wont be forced, and I think it would be nice not to change their alignment through a series of choices, but to fix their alignment to what it actually is and what the game will be allowing for any lvl 1 character.
Quote:My red side heroes either street hunt or play AE up to 20. Then the alignment missions reference how evil they used to be. lol that makes sense.
Quote:I am certainly planning to delete my lower level red side heroes and making them on blue side because it will be faster. If some kind dev actually reads the forums and lets me "respec" my alignment it would just be a bonus. -
Quote:Really? The only example you could think of was to make stuff up? If your going to lie at least try to make it believable. The best recipes is 3 parts truth to 1 part lie.In order to demonstrate how wrong the above assertion is I offer you the following statement.
The devs are working on creating a freeform system. We will likely see it released late 2012.
How people know your statement is false.
1. You aren't an NCSoft employee so you have no idea what they are developing.
2. The devs have not given any type of indication that they were working on a drastic change in game mechanics.
3. There hasn't been a peep from marketing that something big like that was in the works.
Do you think it was just a coincidence that the same time they started working on the F2P business model that we also saw a strict crackdown and increased enforcement on discussions about other games? Especially the ones that were F2P.
The F2P clues were there and several people figured it out even tho the rest of us (myself included) tried to ignore them. -
And the devs disagree with you. They have flat out told us that an alignment change is indeed a significant change in a characters development and they deliberately chose this method to illustrate it.
Quote:and they give those to us for free all the time.
Quote:With a major game change, why not give a simple fix for the characters that have already been created?
Quote:I dunno, I am going to delete my lowbie future heroes and re-roll them. Just though I could make the suggestion. -
Ifd you are the last player in the SG then that means you have the Super Leader rank and can easily set the SG permissions so that the lowest rank can only invite other people into the SG. And if you have Storage bins you can temporarily set their permissions so that no one but you the Leader can take anything out.
Then once you've secured the base you can ask a friend to join and invite as many alts as you like to the SG.
Once that's done and you've kicked the helper from the SG you can reset the base permissions to their regular settings. -
Quote:ROFL. So this is all about this post I made. You still have not given me that relevant quote where some Dev said anything like that this decade. You know, the decade where they let people play without paying? The one where they give crashless nukes on 90 second recharges to brutes and defenders and blasters and warshades and everyone else. The dev team that lets my blaster gain perma-mez protection, even against the exotic mezzes. These are the devs who want us to be able to easily switch some of our tools/skills much more dynamically than we could in the past. I want you to show me how you know they have thoroughly investigated this idea within the last 5 years (it seems likely they might have, but I want to know what you know so well).
Quote:It's always funny when someone tries to trot out this as an argument.
Please post a link to even ONE redname that ever said that Power Customization isn't going to happen.
Well?
We're waiting . . .
Oh that's right you can't post that link because the devs never said that.
Inherent Fitness? Yeah one Dev (who I believe doesn't even work here anymore, Please correct me if I'm wrong) once said he'd rather get rid of Stamina altogether than make Fitness inherent. But that was just him voicing his opinion, not him making a policy decision on what will be allowed in the game.
Quote:Here, I'll give you chance to actually contribute to the real conversation. Point out 3 negatives of the idea, none of which can involve things you have zero idea about. No negatives based on dev resources, time, or skill, since you would just be completely guessing. Real drawbacks to the system that would need to be addressed if magic gnomes came in and created the system while the devs were sleeping. I'll even let you cheat and repeat ones others have already mentioned.
Also list 3 positives. What benefits could a freeform system bring? You can be very specific and small, it can be the tiniest, most minor positive, one that might even only affect you and the rest of us wouldn't even care you got the benefit from the system. -
Only caught the crud once at the end of a con so I wish the OP the best of luck and follow all the great advice that has been passed along.
-
I would think that if anything earned him the legacy of being "evil" it would be the whole town destroyer thing.
-
That's fine with me as long as Defenders and/or Controllers get Pain Domination in return.
-
/unsigned.
For reasons mentioned in other posts with the same suggestion. -
Quote:And again, if the devs have all this extra time down time (which is what you are basically saying they have) why have we been getting the Incarnate trials and other Incarnate content at a glacial pace.
Maybe the devs can cut back on their daily manicures, pedicures, massages, poolside meetings at the wet bar, and 3 hour business lunches. -

I always enjoy watching Memphis Bill or Arcanaville have a battle of wits with an unarmed person, and watching them both do it in the same thread is a real treat.

Quote:Well the GR "disk" is almost Issue 18 and we are now on Issue 20.5. A good chunk of the pigg files have changed since then.
Just one more example of what a bunch of jerks our devs are. They are always improving the game and forcing free content on us. It never ends. -
/unsigned because I can see this as being used by some people as a justification for demanding freeform powersets. It would be a tragic misstep on a slipperyslope to ruin.
People can just use their Paragon Reward Points to buy the City Traveler vet reward in a couple of months. -
Quote:Free players won't get Masterminds, unless they pay to unlock Masterminds. If you meant if the F2Pers unlock MMs then it's a free set(Like all the other MM Primaries), then I agree with you.
F2Pers that pay to unlock MM's aren't F2Pers. As soon as they make the purchase they get upgraded to Premiums and all the benefits that go with a Premium account. -
Quote:True, but they never even tried the idea of Power Customization and yet still did that eventually. They also made some powers that totally immobilized you when using them. Neither of those points mean a lot 9 years later, just like the fact that they failed to make a good classless system a decade ago is not relevant, since almost everyone who would be involved in designing one now is different. If ever there was a good time to re-open discussion on the topic, now is it. I agree there are huge hurdles that can be discussed, I do not agree that those hurdles are reasons to not even bother thinking about the concept.
Sweet! Mistakes we can learn from when designing a new system. This kind of data and real world insight is a huge plus while exploring the concept.
You frequently have this belief that if you are incapable of doing something or incapable of seeing how it could be done, so is everyone else (and if you do not actually believe that, you come across that way a lot). There are definitely ways a freeform system could be done right in this game. In a good freeform system there would not be any reasons to eliminate the current powersets. Just because you could add freeform options does not necessarily invalidate the current system. Done well, a Storm/Electric defender would be able to co-exist with a freeform (De)Buff/Attack set.
I know it is easy to see potential drawbacks and challenges and throw your hands in the air and say its just not possible or just not worth it. I don't think that way. Even if the dev resources could never get around to this idea, that does not mean it is not worth exploring, especially as a player discussion. You bring up some good concerns, those would need to be addressed.
However, are you really saying you would not like the freedom to design your own character if it could be done in a balanced way? You would rather be limited to only choices made by someone else? Explore the potential benefits of the system as well as the potential negatives. Looking at just the positives is bound to lead to a problematic system. Looking at the just the negatives is a problematic attitude.Quote:Why do you keep bringing this up?
Changing the color of your powers has NOTHING to do with freeform power selection. They are not even remotely similar. Your character having blue fire has zero effect on how the game works. None whatsoever.
You keep saying that they did Power Customization, so why can't they do this, while sweeping under the rug the fact that the two things have NOTHING in common in terms of their affect on the game.
Being able to have blue fire powers and being able to choose any powerset combination you want are 2 COMPLETELY different things. Saying that because they did one there is no reason not to do the other is just flat out ridiculous.
Standard Code Rant applies in this situation.

Quote:Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhh. I don't give a damn about their stinking "merits", I just want to get my poor Robotics Mastermind the hell out of the Crappy Isles as fast as possible.
And this is exactly why they put a cap on in the first place. They decided that they didn't want players to be able to switch sides in just a couple hours of game play. They want it to take a few days.
Quote:Bad enough they milked me for still more actual U.S. currency for a feature that should've been in City of Villains at launch
Quote:they had to go and link it to a loot mechanism that had to be hobbled so it wouldn't be exploited? -
Quote:You can wait for the game to go Free to Play when I21 goes live in a few months. Then you won't need any billing information. Also, is there no way to add a payment option to your NCSoft account without actually buying anything?
And why on earth would they want a payment option from someone that hasn't bought anything from the company. -
Quote:When I was in college, I used to make fun of the guys that would run around and smack each other with foam covered-pvc. About a year or so into my graduate program, I realized that when you go to a movie? Ya, that's watching people larp for a living...and getting paid obscene amounts of money to do so.
