Only that didn't happen. The game is still fun and solo capable. All the stuff he had fun playing before he left is still there along with a few new things that were mentioned above.

Now if he honestly feels that he can't enjoy the game on his current server he can pony up the $10 bucks and buy a transfer to Freedom.

    3. Second build. Consider it a "free respec" if you haven't used it (you get a second at ten, a third when you unlock your Alpha slot.) Use that, don't worry about slotting, make sure you have everything, give it a trial run, then copy it over and do it on your main build.

(TitanSentinel from cit.cohtitan.com, will let you export your build to Mids to look at/print out.)

    Old game codes

It would be nice if instead of the word retail they listed what edition the code was for. Then we could easily see what we did or didn't have.

It can be very irritating to buy a cheap good vs evil for example, only to find out you already unlocked that edition and the code is useless to you.

    CoH edition
    CoH collectors edition
    CoV edition
    Good vs Evil edition
    Mac edition

You do realize that nothing in this game would ever progress if the devs weren't capable of changing their minds, right? "The devs said so" is not a valid objection to a suggestion that is in reference to a future change.
Anyway, enough semantical bs, free alignment changes would be awesome. Prove me wrong
Sorry Charlie. The devs already made their decision so I don't have to prove anything. You are the one arguing for change so it's on your head to prove that your idea is sound.

Merely repeatedly proclaiming your opinion to be awesome doesn't cut the mustard.

WHY IS HAVING AN ALIGNMENT CHANGE TOKEN A BAD THING?
Because the devs have flat out told us they don't want players to instantly change alignments.

Seriously how hard is this to understand? We don't have to like it, but that's the decision they have made. Their game, their rules.

    Here's a few similar examples

The devs reduced the amount of salvage that can be stored in SG salvage bins from 2500 to 30. Why? because they don't want us storing larger amounts in them.

The devs only allow us to pull 10 enhancements off of a build during a respec. Why? Because they feel 10 was being generous.

The devs decided that we can't change powersets once they are selected. Why? Because they don't want us changing powersets.
  12. Forbin_Project

    Trial acct & SG

Also just an FYI a while back they decided to add the rank of Super Leader to SG's. The player holding that rank is the defacto owner of the SG and can do whatever he or she wants with it regardless of what other members want.

The auto demote is still in effect if the Super Leader goes inactive longer than what it is set at. 45 day maximum.

From what I understand this rank was created because CS was getting drawn into too many petty disputes between SG members and their leaders. They will now only get involved when and if an actual EULA/player conduct violation occurs.

Sadly this means a person is out of luck if they return to the game and find that they've been kicked from an SG.

as for what a 50 can do without trials. well you can work on a build, run itf which is alot easier to organize than a trial and you get incarnate shards for it to work on your alpha slot. run ae architect missions for tickets for salvage and recipe rolls and turn those into cash, i didnt even try last night and made 200 million on recipe drops just from running itfs so I can get my build right for my defender. if all else fails just go work on another character and run a few missions and watch pinnbadges till a trial starts up. like i said about 5 or more started up last night and i know one of them we didnt even get a full raid to run it so we were looking for more people before we ran it. there is plenty going on, sounds like you are not in the right channels to get in on the runs.

  14. There's not going to be anything definite until they pretty much decide what's going to be in it.

Even if they did give us an example of what it might look like there will be people screaming bloody murder if there are any changes in price and quantity between the example and what finally goes live.

So it's in their best interests to keep things under wraps until they are ready.

I agree. Even tho our wonderful generous devs had the best intentions when they decided to give them out, it set a bad precedent and is a perfect example of no good deed going unpunished. As soon they did it the immature whiners with entitlement issues started making idiotic demands and about the unfairness that their petty demands are being ignored. And it's been going on nonstop for years.

    Some examples

It's not fair that they can't pull every enhancement off of a respec.
It's not fair that they can't have vehicles.
It's not fair that they force PvP into specific zones.
It's not fair that they can't make ripoffs of their favorite heroes/villains.
It's not fair that they have to participate in PvP if they want to get Shivans or Nukes.
It's not fair that things are so expensive at the market.
It's not fair that they can't abuse AE exploits.
It's not fair that someone else got the name they wanted first.

On and on it never stops.

No they haven't. Alignment changes were added for role playing purposes. This is after all a role playing game.

CoH was created so people could role play super heroes.
CoV was created so people could role play super villains.
Going Rogue was created so people could role play the moral dilemma between good and evil.

    Quote:
This is completely parallel with why they give respecs for power changes.
No it isn't, and you can post otherwise til you are blue in the face and it still won't be true.

    Quote:
New characters dont get the respec because the fundamental game change is already in place
New characters don't get freespecs because they weren't created when the a power was changed. Only pre-existing characters get freespecs.

The devs give them out to everyone because they are such nice people. That doesn't mean we are entitled to them, or anything else for free.

The devs give out free tokens as a courtesy when the changes they make take the choice out of the players hands.

When they change a power they give out freespecs.
When they merged the server lists they gave out Global Name change tokens.
When a GM generics a character's name or costume they give out a name change or costume token.
When a player changes servers and loses a name they give out a name change token.

The difference with alignments is that you knew full well when you created the character what your choices were for the time being. You could

    a. Make a straight villain and change alignments at level 20. Or
    b. Make a Praetorian and make a heroic villain AT from level 1.

Everyone knew when GR was launched that everything would eventually be merged and we'd be able to make whatever we wanted regardless of faction. We even predicted that the merge would start a year after GR went live, because that's exactly how long it took them to merge CoH and CoV into one game.

Yeah the first year that CoV was launched CoH and CoV were separate purchases and you couldn't play the both sides without buying both games.

Now if the devs came out and told people that they were separating the factions into stand alone games and any characters that were caught between factions (vigilante or Rogue) were going to be forced to one side or the other, then there would be a valid argument for being given alignment change tokens. Why? Because that's a scenario where players would actually have an alignment forced upon them.

Yeah I see what you mean. It sure sounds like I'm telling people that they shouldn't talk about suggestions and ideas.

The truth of the matter is that the only time I suggest someone not post is when they start overreacting and take disagreement as personal attacks. If a person isn't mature enough to handle disagreement and constructive criticism of his idea then he should send it via PM to the devs.

If they choose to post in an open forum then they have to put on their big boy pants and take the positive feedback along with the negative feedback.

RPers like myself don't care one way or another because we've been role playing heroic villains and villainous heroes from day one. Role playing is about how you act in character with other players not about the limits you put on your own imagination.

If I want to RP that my character is a hyper-intelligent shade of blue from the Lundmarks Nebula then that is what he is and the fact that the only Alien AT's available to play are WS/PB's isn't going to stop me.

Its not necessary in any way, but it makes new options available to old characters with minimal hassle.
And this is where your analogy fails. The devs give out freespecs when they make changes to the way a power functions. Nothing changes when you switch alignments. A heroic Mastermind plays no differently than a villainous Mastermind. The only difference is what content you have access to.

If you want to tell me that Im wrong that is fine, but you should at least read what Im saying first.
And yet you want us to believe that while you can ignore the villain content by street sweeping and running AE missions to keep your villains pure, but you can't ignore the morality missions in game text. Or that you can't ignore a Praetorian origin after you've chosen a heroic alignment. Hypocrisy gotta love it.

The assertion there was simply that a one-time use alignment token would be more convenient than those two options. At no point in time did the OP say anything that could possibly be misconstrued as saying that a particular faction levels more quickly than another.
No what he actually said was

    Quote:
After I hit 20 I could spend ~1 hour a day for four days switching her to hero side. Or I could just delete her and re roll, then get back to 17 in less time than it would take to switch sides.
No matter how you do the math that adds up to 4 hours. People regularly get characters up to level 20 in 4 hours of game time regardless of faction. Many players take pride in the fact that they can do it.

    Quote:
How so? The argument against Alignment Change Tokens, so far from what I've gathered, is simply that the Dev's want us to utilize the Alignment system as it's been designed, and that awarding quick change tokens will circumvent that process.
And that's the only reason the devs need. It's their game. Funny how that works. The people that create the game get to decide what is allowed in the game.

    Quote:
However, deleting, and re-rolling a character with a different alignment, and achieving a similar level in less time than it would take to play through the alignment system as designed sounds like a circumvention to me.
And yet the devs have gone on record many times saying that if we don't like our powerset choices, our alignment, our AT's, or our origins we should roll up a new character because the game was designed to encourage alt creation.

    Quote:
Sure, it's not the same character from a computer data standpoint, but if said character has the same name, powers, and costume, then for all intents and purposes, you've just changed alignments in less than the designed time period.
Doesn't change the fact that you can still get the "deleted" character back if you ask CS for it. The original character hasn't changed alignments.

    Quote:
If such a circumvention is totally acceptable now, then what problems do an Alignment Change Token present?
It's not a circumvention, you're making an entirely new character.

Placing a bid for 2 billion inf on an item in the market that doesn't exist so you can get around the inf cap is a circumvention.

Using alts as storage mules is a circumvention.

Using two accounts to invite your alts to a solo SG is a circumvention.

    1. Exactly where does it say that anything the devs has said or done has an expiration date? For example anything posted by the devs over 3 months old isn't valid anymore.

The devs don't have to constantly waste time on the forums repeatedly explaining and justifying their decisions to every Tom, Dick, and Harry that doesn't like the answers he's being given. If they did that they'd never get anything done.
