Quote:Pointing out the blatantly obvious flaws in Cybers logic didn't take any effort at all. I'm sorry to disappoint you if you think it took some form of research to formulate my response. It was a small QoL suggestion, not a complaint in disguise. I don't really see how it could have generated so much controversy. If it happens great, if not, whatever. I think the amount of effort you're going to to say it should never happen is kind of over the top though. Other games have this feature without the world coming to an end or people being guilted out of using it. :P
And if you think my position that it's virtually impossible to screw up a build so badly that a level 6 character is unplayable unless they get unlimited respecs, then please prove me wrong by posting examples of those screwed up builds.
I have no problem admitting I'm wrong if you can prove a level 6 character actually needs a respec because the build is screwed up. -
Quote:So you're trying to discourage me from seeing it by telling me it's a retcon from the classic storyline we all know and loved? Like what they did to ruin Battlestar Galactica. The term 'original remake' may be an oxymoron, but this film deserves the title. It has almost nothing to do with the other Planet of the Ape films. It's a new and original story, completely plausible, with excellent characters.
It's a shame the other films gave people such prejudice against this one. I thought this was a great film. I hope Serkis gets an Oscar; he deserves one.
Well despite the bad review you've just given it. (I hate retcons) I'm still going to wait until it's released on DvD and form my own opinion. -
Quote:Yeah it's the one that shows up on the new NCSoft Launcher. You mean a test server that is advertised as an option during character creation.
Quote:A test server that isnt a pain to install and actually use (Ive read so many forum threads about problems with the Test Server).
Quote:I didnt know we had that?
Quote:Even then why should I have to create my character on one server and then recreate on my live server of choice?
Quote:Its not very intuitive. Its not very user-friendly.
Quote:For those of us who have played the game for a while we know these things. With experience comes knowledge. Priceless.
Quote:The devs are doing a LOT of work to make the game easier for new players. This would also help. -
Quote:Oh, I see. Too bad there isn't a Test Server where players can do that before making their final choices on the live servers.I think the OP actually meant looking at the powers FUNCTION not just the FORM.
What does the power do INGAME against enemies rather than what does your toon do when you click the power.
This I think is more inline with what a lot of ppl (myself included) have asked for with the character generator. An actual zone where you can run around and attack those unkillable "dummies" to see how your powers look.
It would be nicer if we could actually fight/defeat something in this zone so you can see how powers like Levitate work and how damaging they are. Of course these mobs dont cound for XP, debt, drops, # of kills, etc.
For example when I first played this game I made a Corruptor and died so often as I didnt know the mechanics and had unrealistic expectations for that AT (a friend told me how awesome his Corr was but he didnt classify he was lvl 50 with full IO Sets).
This would obviously be more helpfull when looking at your toon at level 25+ rather than level 6. By the time you've hit level 25 as a new player (so no PLing) thats a lot of time invested and a "just re-roll" may make some want to leave the game. -
I'm sorry but I can't see how anyone can screw up a build so badly before level 6 that they need unlimited respecs let alone 1 respec.

Quote:How quickly that fact gets forgotten in these types of discussions.Except as soon as they spend those 10 bucks they are no longer free players but are instead premium players. Remember premium players = players who have spent money.

Quote:Whack a mole?Zwillinger was previously with EA.
Currently EA fields two MMO developers.
Only one of those developers put out a new MMO while Zwill was at EA.
Shouldn't be too hard to figure out which MMO Zwill is talking about.
here's a hint.
It involved a lot of Battle, and really big Hammers. -
Quote:What part of BaBs worked on Walk in his spare time did you not understand?I'm kinda confused myself...
Did the devs re-animate every single attack in the game to work with Ninja Run's new idle and running animations, then re-re-animate them again so they'd work with Beast Run's new idle and running animations? And it was so difficult that they can't do the same for Walk?
Ninja Run and Beast Run were official projects attached to booster packs.
Walk was a personal project done by BaBs in his spare time as an RP QoL gift. -
Quote:I take it you haven't talked to them about the VEAT content.Every seasoned player I talk with redside says the story content is far superior to blue side. It's not even a contest. However, that is only true once you get past Mercy.
I've always felt the main problem for Red side is just that the content in the opening area is such a train wreck only a few players ever make to the good parts and get hooked. Hopefully the facelift in i-21 will be a step toward fixing that. -
Quote:I agree. I just don't see how 200 apes can start a revolt against a population in the billions, when it starts in a country where we have tanks (those Apes arent going to tear through a tank) big guns, and the government would sooner fire bomb the city than let it happen.
But no one has any trouble believing that an Imperial Empire spanning millions of worlds, with a military of billions of personnel, and tens if not hundreds of millions of warships was overthrown by a few thousand Rebels with maybe 100 or so warships. -
Quote:It's only good if it's used as a limited offer. Say game "X" needs a certain amount of money to offset development costs, so they announce they are offering LTS's to the first say 5000 people (random number I picked) for 30 days whichever comes first. Now if they charged $300 for the LTS that could get them 1.5 million.Lets say I bought a lifetime sub at the time CoH launched in the EU, in February 2005. If it cost say... £200, that's about 22.5 months of playtime.
I'm coming up to being a 78 month vet now. That means that the company would have lost about £484 of sub fees from me (Taking into account some free months from boxes.)
That's about $791 that hasn't gone towards the game.
How good for the game and company is that, huh?
Now for an MMO if the pop ever drops to the point where the money from those 5,000 subs becomes an important loss of revenue, well it will have shut down long before the pop drops that low. -
I just want to be able to throw my shoulder kitty at people.

Oh don't worry I will see it eventually, I'm just not going to pay theatre prices. I'll wait for it on DvD.
A few years ago this probably wouldn't have bothered me because at that time I was living near a Drive-In Theatre that showed up to date movies. $5 bucks per adult, $3 bucks per kid for 2 movies.
After I moved it's just too damn far away to drive to see it. (60+miles) -

Quote:I wish I could believe that's what they were motivated by but I can't shake the feeling they prefer trying to milk a few more bucks out of an IP with an established fanbase than risk trying something new.Well yeah, but the "be original" logic obviously only goes so far. When it comes to remaking movies, as with the retelling of any story in any form, shouldn't the main concerns be (1) whether or not it stands on its own and (2) whether or not it's good?
Maybe I'm just getting old. -
Quote:Yeah you frequently have to divorce the TV show from the movie(s) when one wasn't originally intended to go hand in hand with the other.Bottomline it doesn't really bother me that newer movies like Rise of the Planet of the Apes may not strictly stick to an established timeline because that franchise is already a little loose with the facts to begin with. I'm not even going to try to explain the 1970s PotA TV show in with the rest of this.

Quote:If the only green-lit movies were "original ideas" then I'm guessing there would be next to 0 movies ever made in a year, not to mention 0 books, 0 records, 0 plays.Quote:^ This.
Get over yourself. There's never really been original ideas. Everything's borrowed from, inspired by, a retelling of, or a continuation of something else.
And I'm not complaining about making books and plays into movies. Just the remaking of films.
Instead of redoing films that have already been made how bout movies based on
The Guardians of the Flame
The Dresden Files
Hammers Slammers
War against the Chtorr
The Lensmen
Jack L Chalker's Dancing Gods
Chronicles of Amber
Xanth
The Belgariad
The Mallorean
The Wheel of Time
Discworld
The Man-Kzin Wars
The Berserker Wars
StarFist
Harry Harrison's Stars and Stripes alternate history
The Ellenium/Tamuli
Demontech novels
The Deryni Saga
Callahan's Bar
Battletech
There's thousands of stories that would make great movies/ series of movies. -
You should have gotten a rename token. I used it to rename several characters and transfer them back to their original servers.

Quote:I'm not understanding this attitude that all free to play players are RMTers or gold farmers, or ne'er-do-wells whose only goal is to make VIP players (the one, true kind of players!) life a living hell.
No one believes all free players are RMTers and Gold Farmers.
But that doesn't change the simple fact that all RMTers and Gold Farmers use free accounts because it doesn't cost them anything. They have to use free accounts because it's too damn expensive to constantly pay to open accounts that just get banned. -
No because the smallest package of Paragon Points that will be sold is $5 dollars. Which is why the devs have said it only takes a $5 dollar purchase to upgrade to a premium account.
-
Quote:I agree. It's nice to see the devs changed their minds from their old position that they were being generous when they let us keep 10 during a respec.ZOMG!! OMG!! AHAHAHAHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!
This alone will make respec'n a lot easier..well when your emptying a toon that is.
But my favorite is this
Quote:Twelve More Character Slots. VIP players will be able to purchase 12 more character slots on each server, to maximum of 48 character slots per server. -
Quote:Or so it says here:
http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/news/f...gon_market.php
You realize, of course, that that's just as good as a free character rename, don't you? Just think of all the cool characters you've ever made that had crumby names, and now you get to rename one of them per month? I can just breathe in all the awesomeness.
(You just have to make a quick toon on the destination server with the same name as the one to be transferred, and that will result in getting your rename token as part of the transfer.)
It's so cute when a new player thinks he or she has figured out an exploit that everyone else has known about for years.
Yes we all know how we can get a free rename token using server transfers.
And using free server transfers to get the rename tokens isn't a new idea either. We had a over a month of free server transfers during the 2009-2010 Winter Event and another week of free transfers the first week Going Rogue went live in Aug 2010. -
Quote:Exactly. If they started yelling things like, "Why won't you all just leave me alone!" or "No! No! I can't take anymore of this!" they wouldn't be lost. They be having an emotional break down..... right. I'm referring to people using walk to keep these NPCs following them because of the dialog they have. Yeah. That response makes sense. I couldn't *possibly* be referring to them taking two steps and standing there, then running back for five and not budging while saying "I can't find you!" even though there's direct, unblocked line of sight and no enemies.
-
Quote:You forgot walking in mid air on invisible floors. You mean the ones that can just step off of tall buildings without taking any damage, and routinely shove my Rooted Stone Tank out of the way via the incredible power of *walking into me?*
Those people we're better/stronger/faster than?
Quote:*Do* please explain how, in a perfectly straight, perhaps 300 yard hallway, with no obstacles, with you and the exit clearly in view, no enemies around, etc. someone's going to get lost three times.
Quote:No matter how "terrorized" or "tired" they are. ESPECIALLY in situations you're rescuign them - hell, I don't care how tired I am, if someone were coming to get me out of that situation, I'd do everything possible to stay RIGHT on their tail. -
Move quick? That sounds like too much effort.
*goes back to looking at Russian mail-order brides*
I wonder if there's a discount in shipping and handling if you buy them in bulk.
