Quote:You've know that players are lazy right? Every time Email gets brought up Players start complaining that it's too much effort to use email to store recipes. You've heard about email right?
At this point there is absolutely no reason to prevent bases having extra storage other than it might reduce the numbers of people that buy extra slots from the Paragon Market.
So the devs plan to encourage players to sell/craft their recipes rather than hoard them is still working even tho we can easily store recipes using Emails.
That doesn't mean I wouldn't like some recipe storage in bases. -
Quote:And all that was back when the game was actually hard to play.Way back at the dawn of time (about 82 months ago), I first entered the Outbreak tutorial zone . . . . No wait! There was no tutorial one back then.
I entered into Atlas Park close to the statue. I saw a large, green B. Banner run by, a xXWolverineXx slashing gang bangers, and a scantily clad woman beseeching players to join her group. I had no idea what to do.
I had read the little booklet that came with the game and decided that Bionic Flea would be a tough, invulnerable/super strength tank with the leaping pool (because fleas jump not fly!) I had no idea what to do, where to go, how to target, or how to send tells or switch to team chat. I think I spoke in broadcast for several weeks. There was a nice player who took me under his wing for an hour or so and taught me the basics. Thanks mysterious stranger!
I chose Resist Physical Damage over Temporary Invulnerability because they both added resistance but RPD cost no endurance, so it must be better! When I had a chance to pick up Temp. Inv. later I skipped it because it seemed redundant. I picked jump kick over Unyielding Stance because fleas jump and I didn't want to be stuck in one place. I don't remember how many other mistakes I made back then. But I kept reading the forums and getting advice from players in game and tried to correct my mistakes by picking up the essential powers I had skipped. I had no choice, respecs would not be introduced until several months later.
Despite my noobiness, I had fun. I mainly soloed, because I didn't want to subject my stupidity on others who seemed to know what was going on. Leveling initially was an hourly thing but that quickly changed from hourly to daily to weekly, and probably monthly towards the end. It took me longer because zoning took quite a bit of time on a dial up modem and I would run out of missions all the time to regain health and endurance.
Anyway, my point is that new players will make mistakes but that is a necessary part of the learning curve. You can have fun despite those mistakes. -

Quote:Because no one would have access to the test server for months. The Beta server allows the devs to work on the new stuff and players can still use the Test server without interruption.I had left the game awhile back and returned not too long ago. I did not know there was ANOTHER client we had to download in order to play in Beta until I did some minor searching this morning.
So now I have, the live servers, test and I'm downloading Beta. Why did we add another ~6gb of information? Why can't we do exactly what we did before and have Beta on the test server?
Quote:Also, I recall having to transfer characters to the test server and I notice another thread that says we have to do the same or make a new one for Beta... but I've forgotten how to transfer and I can't locate where that information is. If someone could lead me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Don't bother trying to get on the Beta server at this time because they have it locked out for testing COH: Freedom until 4 pm today. -

Quote:While I see your point about using the new timeline to explore a different path, the argument can be made that events that started before the timeline was altered could still have some resolution along the new timeline. As far as them redoing a Khan movie I think it's kind of sad that JJ Abrams would make all that effort to change the entire Star Trek universe only to fall back on one of the most notable villains of the prime timeline. Does he really not have the balls to do some else semi-original at this point? Being such a Star Wars geek I'm almost surprised he's not giving us a "Deathstar" with a villain named Varth Dader.
Khan led his revolt and got put into suspended animation on the Botany Bay long before the timeline changed so it's still possible that the alternate Kirk/Enterprise might encounter him. Not likely but possible.
This still falls under my personal dislike for retcons even tho the Star Trek is well known for retcons. -

So if you don't think this is worth debating why do you keep coming back to post? Is it because you can't stand not having the last word?
Edit: Oh and I'm touched that you care enough about my posts to count the number of words in them. It's very sweet. -
Quote:Even if it were scientifically possible it's most likely that both the astronauts and the alien human population would infect each other with diseases from their respective home worlds and wipe each other out.I know this could derail the discussion of the current movie, but huh?
Maybe I didn't give enough facts. The astronauts in the novel travelled 350 light years in a near-lightspeed ship to a planet they named Soror. This planet was populated by intelligent apes who had subjegated human beings. Not human-like beings, human beings; the protagonist is able to mate and procreate with one of the Soror humans.
At the end of the novel, the astronaut, and I think his pregnant wife, hop back in the spaceship and high-tail it back to Earth. Due to it being a 700 light year round trip (thanks to time dialation they only age about two years each way), they arrive on Earth 700 years after the astronaut originally left to find that the humans on Earth have also been subjugated by intelligent apes.
There's no wormholes, and no time travel, just two planets 350 light years apart that are, for all intensive porpoises, identical. You can't tell me that scientifcally that is 100% likely.
(and yes, I know it's intents and purposes)
Just like Columbus and the conquistadors did to the native americans when they went to America. -

Quote:Yeah the devs should at least put Save and Load buttons over the avatar of the character in the costume creator, and then a second screen should appear when they click the save button that states in large letters SAVE YOUR COSTUME.Show me a player who has one hour in game that knows that they can go to the tailor to save their costume, let alone know that a tailor even exists or where to find one.
Oh wait they do have that.
Or they could just read the manual before playing.

Icon tailors are listed on page 17
Edit: But what the tailor has to do with wanting unlimited respecs under level 6 I have no idea. -

Quote:I never said retcons were all bad, just that I hate them. I also never said I wasn't willing to give this film a chance. What I actually said (several times now) is that I refuse to pay theatre prices to see it.It's a retcon. Not all retcons are bad.
If you're emotionally attached to the timeline of the classic 1970s movies, then yes, this film will disappoint you. 'Rise' is an updated Planet of the Apes movie, and it rises above the rest of the series. (It also rises above the crappy 2001 remake, fortunately.)
If you want to cling to your bellbottomed slacks, your disco ball and your 8-track tape player, then hey, I won't stop you.But if you just like good movies you could do a lot worse than to see 'Rise'.
As far as I'm concerned I can wait until it's released on DvD.
Come to think of it, if I was a thief I could probably find a site on the internet where it could be downloaded for free, cuz I'm sure there are more than a few people that sneak camcorders into movies. -
Quote:Other than the simple fact that you can't screw up a build at level 6.I see no reason to deny a character under level 6 the ability to respec their character.
We're still waiting for someone to post a build that makes a level 6 character unplayable and in need of a respec.
Prove us wrong. -
Quote:Sorry I missed this before.Flipping that around, I don't see why letting someone respec their powers at level 6 would do anything other than allow a person who did make an oopsie save an hour or two.
I'm not sure what game you've been playing where it takes an hour or two to get a character to level 6. It definitely isn't CoH. -
Quote:I gave you a crystal clear response in my first post. If you want to delude yourself into believing it was unclear that's your prerogative.I'm sorry but six posts later from you and I'm still not exactly sure what it is you disagree with.
Quote:That a developer might spend time on this instead of something that needs it more?
Quote:It's just a weird amount of attention to pay to a threadbare topic.
Quote:I don't care to defend the topic very vigorously because it just isn't that important. But also IMO not really worth a debate about player intelligence and guilt trips for not using existing resources.
Quote:Your suggestion to use the test server on a level 6 newbie, BTW, is bizarre. Much more so than anything in my OP. Rerolling or using an alt build would be more realistic.
First because players don't unlock their second build until level 10 and your suggestion specifically addresses characters under level 6.
Secondly the whole point of your suggestion is that rerolling a level 6 character is too much trouble.
Third the person I was responding to wanted:
Quote:An actual zone where you can run around and attack those unkillable "dummies" to see how your powers look.
It would be nicer if we could actually fight/defeat something in this zone so you can see how powers like Levitate work and how damaging they are.
The whole purpose of the devs letting us use the test server between issues is to give us a place for players to go and check out new powers before doing a respec so they can decide if they like the changes before committing and burning a respec on the live servers. -

Quote:I know what you mean but I can pinpoint what it was for me. The very last scene when he's back on "his" earth and sees the Aperaham Lincoln memorial. You know strangely enough the only PotA movie to date I REALLY never liked was the 2001 remake. Yes the original series of movies are fairly dated now and of course the special effects are only as good as the late 60s/early 70s could provide. But for some reason the 2001 remake annoys me more than the campy silliness of the old movies.
That totally changed the story from the original POTA time travel to alternate universe.
Quote:(FYI: I pretend BSG1980 doesn't exist). -
Now Automan I remember seeing. I remember he had a car that turned like the light cycles in Tron. Don't remember much more than that. Manimal tho is a blank. If I ever did see it it made no impression.
-
All people have said is that they don't see a need for this and suggested existing alternatives. There's been no fighting tooth and nail. and the only overreacting done hasn't been by the people that have disagreed with you.
-
Quote:Wow do you really think new players are so stupid they can't remember the build, or write down the powers/slots they chose for a level 6 character? Cuz your shock and outrage over my post makes it seem that you think new players are gibbering idiots. Are you F-ing serious? You actually expect players who are new, possibly new to the entire genre of MMOs to install this game, install the game again (regardless of method) and then play around on servers that will count for nothing on their actual characters to experiment and learn about the game... and THEN go back and make sure they remember everything they just learned and make the character again? Man, if you want people to not play this game... wow.
-
Well maybe iconic would be a better description than classic. no matter how corny they are they made a lasting impression on Sci-Fi. And we don't love them because of the great acting. Like Godzilla movies we love them for their flaws.
-
Quote:I just never heard of Manimal and had to google it, After reading the wiki I wasn't sure what a show that only ran for 3 months in 1983 had to do with anything. I asked if it was supposed to be an insult because if it was it was lost on me.Lol, no insult intended, if you felt one was given that's all on you. If you're unfamiliar with "Wagon Train", "Manimal" or "Star Wars" well, I can't begin to be responsible for your depth of knowledge (or lack thereof) of the tv/movie media.
-
Quote:If that's supposed to be an insult you failed miserably. Next time try picking a movie or show that people might actually recognize. The original BSG may not have lasted long but people have heard of it.I usually leave opinions alone, they are what they are and how silly I personally find them isn't going to change anything. But I do have to question this, you really believe BSG was ruined? Some cheeseball ripoff of Wagon Train meshed with Star Wars was ruined?
I won't even get into my own view of the new take on the show, I'm certainly fine that someone doesn't like a show I'm quite fond of, but it's really perplexing that someone could think of the old show as even possible to ruin. For your sake I hope they don't reenvision Manimal, lest they "ruin" that too for you.
