Such an item would allow for the much asked for Powerset respec for toons that were originally made before the release of more recent powersets without allowing people to skip the lower levels on those powersets.
This was just asked for on the 8/4/2011 Ustream and Positron said they are not developing power-set respecs because it requires too much work, and changing archetypes just isn't possible.

GOOD! That means the Beta testing is working as intended. The devs are discovering game crashing bugs that need to be fixed before Freedom goes live.

So stop acting like a petulant 6 year old with entitlement issues. Your subscription doesn't entitle you to anything more than access to the live servers. The Test and Beta servers are a privilege the devs can deny us whenever they like.

It's not an exploit. It's working exactly as the devs intended.

    Farming

It is actually possible to reset the mission, and thus farm a Safeguard mission for badge credits. But some very specific things must be done to make it happen.

Safeguards start with a bank robbery that will start automatically even if the bank is left alone. But it is possible to stop the robbery, in progress, without defeating all villains in the bank. The key is the group of villains milling about the bank lobby. They are part of the bank robbery spawn, and must be defeated to complete the mission. But as long as they are not agroed, and the bank vault is not breached, they will never move from their initial spawn point. So the key to making this work is to quickly slip past the group in the lobby and get to the group at the vault. This group should now be defeated before they can breach the vault and activate the villains in the lobby.

One major hazard in this is that it is very easy to knock enemies back through the vault door. If this happens, barring the presence of TP Foe, there is no way to get at the enemy now beyond the vault, who will proceed to resume working on destroying the vault door. At this point all players should log out for several minutes to force a hard reset of the mission as soon as possible.

If the vault group is successfully defeated, the robbery is halted uncompleted, and the mission will never succeed or fail. Even better, the timer never starts, and the cycle of vandals never start. But the side missions can now be activated and completed, and when all desired side missions are done, the mission can be reset and the process can be repeated.
  4. Talking about something that the devs told everyone about when they announced CoH: Freedom doesn't violate the NDA. So we can say the store is broke, and that emails are broke. Now if we started discussing specific features/items in the store or how much they cost, that would be a problem.

    Total BS.

1st - Run directly to the bank and enter.

2nd - Ignore the mob in the lobby. The only important NPC's that need to be killed are the ones going for the bank vault.

If you are lucky the guys going for the vault will be at the entrance, if not just run past the lobby mob to the vault. The Lobby mob won't follow you.

3rd - After killing the NPC's that went for the vault, exit the bank.

DON'T KILL THE MOB IN THE LOBBY! IGNORE THEM! KILLING THEM STARTS THE 15 MINUTE TIMER!

4TH - Exit the bank and clear the map and side missions at your leisure.

5th - After you have cleared everything on the map ONLY THEN go back to the bank and finish off the mob in the lobby.

    Mission completed successfully.

If you like you can stay in the mission as the timer counts down and fight the final mobs that spawn.

The above steps only work for hero safeguard mission. For villain Mayhem missions the timer starts as soon as they enter the mission.

  8. Although I understand why it might bother some people, I happen to like it right where it is. Of course I like to play with my screen set at that 1050x and my windows at 80% so I don't even notice it until I want to use it.

Oh and Bill's right about where this should be reposted if you want the devs to know about it.

  9. No that's it. The devs felt that this gave players more freedom to be creative with their characters, and they were right.
  10. Hopefully that means they'll have the store fixed, and we can claim those dang emails.

Your looking at the wrong characters. It was Han Solo and Lando Calrissian that were given instant promotions to General in Return of the Jedi.

Admiral Ackbar: We have no choice, General Calrissian! Our cruisers can't repel firepower of that magnitude!

C-3PO: I beg your pardon General Solo, but that just wouldn't be proper.

Fortunately, so far the numbers needed are small (defeat 5 Hellions) and they've been respawning *really* fast. (Almost too fast, honestly.)

    I don't think it'll be a problem.
From what I heard th respawn rate on beta was increased to what it is because the devs were anticipating the huge amount of players trying out I21. And even with that I still saw a couple of times where there were more players than the respawn could handle. That's why I started checking if Hellions counted if they were nowhere near the mission marker. (they did count)

I see it as a good move on the Dev's part as one of the biggest complaints from new players is the sparse feel of the zones, when they complain the immediate reaction from us is to inform them about how heavily instanced this game is. That knowledge doesn't erase the 'Feeling' of being alone in the zone to new players though.

This strategy gets more and more of us out of secluded instances and back into the streets to be visible at low levels.
Then it looks like I'll be making a lot more Praetorians if I want to continue to enjoy instanced missions. This open world crap is why I haven't made a new character in that other super hero MMO in almost 2 years.

Not talking about tagging or kill-stealing, I'm talking about players having to stand around in one spot waiting for things to respawn because they don't know they can go elsewhere to complete the mission, and players that aggro npc's in open missions and lead them on top of other players to get them killed. Both of which I've seen happen in the open beta.
  16. I'm not buying that his entire crew would blindly follow his insane orders. If I'm on a ship that goes back in time and my skipper starts acting nutty as a fruitcake he's gonna find himself taking a permanent dirt nap.

I don't deny it's possible, but I'd bet money it's hard to keep people from completing their missions for any length of time. At the very least it won't take people any longer than it does hunting over a wide area for uncommon mobs now.

If it does turn out to "need" a solution then all the devs need to do is make use of the phasing technology so that people beyond a certain level can't even see the mobs.
I've tested the first Hellions mission and found that any Hellion in AP counts. New players won't know that kills away from the designated mission site also count. So at the very least tell players in the mission text when the kills count anywhere in the zone. The tiny fraction of players that like to be jerks can't cover an entire zone.
  18. The thing that bugged me about the film was already mentioned by someone else. Why didn't that stupid Romulan take his damn ship to Romulus and

    A. Warn them about the supernova. and
    B. Give them a huge leap forward in technology.

Even if the darn thing is just a mining ship there's a lot of stuff that's far in advance of what the Romulans currently had.

Only the first part of the sentence you quoted was about the tutorial.

That is why I quoted this part of the OP's post.

    3. Shared mission areas - there was one mission where you go into a Hellion cave and fight your way to a glowie. Shared mission areas are an incredibly bad idea. You always have competition for mobs and/or objectives, from what I've seen in other games, and you have the potential for griefing.
The last I checked higher level characters aren't restricted from entering AP.

I'm sorry you found my response to the OP so confusing.

That promotion didn't become official until after they realized he was going to live.

As I said before finding a FEW cases (I concede the point that there's more than just one example out there) of quick promotions doesn't justify Kirk's case - it again only proves that it is highly, highly unusual and even when it does happen there's at least some kind of established track record to legitimize it. Kirk playing cowboy for a week doesn't merit him a captain's chair any way you slice it unless it's a plot mechanic for a movie
Lothic I was supporting you. The only times I know of instant high ranks is when the country allowed people to buy their rank like the British used to do, or when new technology was being implemented and they needed to fill the ranks with experienced people.

Like how Gregory Boyington resigned from the Marines as a Lt. but when he re-enlisted he wrangled a Majors commission because of his experience serving with the Flying Tigers.

So it's possible Kirk could have been made captain of a much smaller vessel like a corvette or patrol ship right out of Starfleet Acadamy but a cruiser like the Enterprise? Total BS.
