Quote:Intellectually I understand and agree with you, but it's the animal instinct that is so hard to deal with when I think of fire related injuries. I got thru the firefighting trainer only because I kept telling myself there was a safe way out. Can't convince myself of that inside a hollow tube a thousand feet underwater. To clarify, I belive its the exploding avioli not "the fire" that kills. A medical type can correct me if I'm wrong. I was just a EMT before the Navy and not too schooled on the subject. I guess I feel an "instant" death by any means is well...um instant and therefore irrelevant of the cause. But having never been through it, I can't be certain. Having also been a volunteer fireman, my least favorite way to die would be a slow death by fire. So I share this viewpoint with you.
Now maybe I could have overcome that fear but I wasn't willing to put others in danger if I couldn't and it hit the fan. Of course that could have been my subconscious making rationalizations for not facing my fear. -
Quote:If you think someone is doing that then report the post and put the person on ignore by left clicking their forum name then choosing, view public profile, then User Lists, and Add to ignore list. Then you'll never see anything they say. What are you stalking me for?
Don't you dare turn this perfectly reasonable and smart suggestion into a flame war with your desire to stalk my posts.
Anybody else can take their posts elsewhere. This is for discussion of my suggestion, nothing else.
But demands that people should stay on topic usually backfire. Been here 7 years and I've never seen it work. Not even the mods/devs can keep people on topic. It's like herding cats. -
Quote:I'll admit they've convinced me I'm not invulnerable but the jury's still out on my immortality.I guess it boils down to how you like to die. True that your survivability is better on "skimmers", at least before the advent of modern day "split a ship in two" munitions. Having said that, the S&R folks MAY find you if you live. The key word is "if". Floating in the "pond" roasting to death, going nuts from exposure, and watching your friends becoming "screaming chum" from "chew on yas" isn't for me.
Knowing none of us get out of life alive, a quick death is for me. Most people don't know this, Submariners usually don't die from drowning. They die waaay before the water even gets to em from their lungs bursting in flames from compression ignition. I have gone to countless Submarine Birthday Balls and watched sub vets ring the bell for each sub lost. They then announce "all hands lost". This has always driven the point home for me.
lungs bursting in flames from compression ignition
That's the one that bothers me. Don't care if death is instantaneous and I wouldn't feel a thing. As a kid I had a fireworks accident that ended up with 3rd degree burns and it made a lasting impression. Hardest thing I ever did in my life was go thru the firefighting simulator in Norfolk. Only good thing about it was I was wearing so much equipment no one could see how terrified I was. I had nightmares for weeks. And yes the idea of going into a sea covered with burning fuel still gives me shivers. Death by fire bad, any other death preferred. -
Bill you can't seriously be suggesting people should confirm wild rumors instead of accepting them as gospel truth and going off half-cocked.

1. Really pimp out the costume creator so we can do some serious avatar customization cuz that's the most important thing in a super hero game.
I'm talking tattoos anywhere on the body.
More categories/sub categories like Left eye, Right Eye, Both Eyes and Left Upper Arm, Left Lower Arm, Left Hand.
More animated costume choices
Glowing selections with a brightness slider
And tons more costume choices
2. Do the same thing with the Base editor and give players the ability to have personal lairs as well as join larger Supergroups.
3. Even tho I don't like it redesign and make a working PVP and give them a separate location that all players have access to at any level if they want to participate.
4. If there is going to be factions then evenly divide up the content so no one side has more to do than the other factions.
5. Still like the unique naming system but give players more characters to create names and more space for bios. RPer's may like to keep a diary, or have a secret identity.
6. More choices of locations for social events. It all doesn't need to be piled into one zone like Pocket D/Tiki Lounge/Chalet, and they can have different themes than clubs.
7. Destructible environment like Mayhem/Safeguards.
8. Plenty of secret rooms/locations. You know those easily overlooked or hard to find spots like the game room in Faultline, or the dev room under Grandville.
9. Add some of the long asked for content like the Moon Zone, Underwater Zone, Haunted House, etc.
10. More options for power and weapon customization.
11. More avatar skeletons even if it means some power sets can't be chosen. We understand that a pussycat skeleton won't be running around wielding swords and such whereas a humanoid one would.
12. More power sets. -
Quote:Sig Arcs aren't something we currently pay for so if we weren't going F2P we'd (subscribers) most likely get them for free anyway. So while they don't fall under the concept of what I was describing about sub fees, they are a good example of what the devs will be doing to entice players to subscribe. You also forgot the Signature Arcs we'll get for free. There is supposed to be new Sig Arc's each month and non-VIP's will have to pay $5 for them.
So, for those that use the server transfers, they'll be paying you to play the game.
Of course, that doesn't fit in with some people's "I'm getting less!" arguments so it will likely be ignored as well. -
Quote:Actually, too bad I'm not gay. It would double the chances for relationships ; ).
My dad started with F-4U Corsairs (made famous by tv show ba ba black sheep) and ended up flying the "new fangled" gizmos called jets.
Actually, I rather be submerged in a "ship" DESIGNED to do it than one that isn't. Remember there are 2 types of ships...submarines and targets.
The Corsair was my favorite fighter in WWII follwed by the Avenger and the P-38 Lightning. Maj Gregory "Pappy" Boyington was my favorite pilot. Especially since he flew with 2 of my three favorite squadrons.
1st AVG The Flying Tigers
VMF-214 The Black Sheep
332nd Fighter Group The Red Tails - Tuskegee Airmen
And while it's true that surface ships are targets, I could never get my head around the idea that subs are basically balloons under water. One good hit by a torp or depth charge and it's sayonara submarine and all hands onboard. At least on the surface I had a better chance of surviving. Assuming I could avoid the sharks, Gator Freighters not only had ballast tanks to stay afloat but they had plenty of inflatable life rafts to help accommodate our Jarhead passengers not to mention 4 boats, and whatever landing craft in the Well Deck.
Quote:When retrieving flight data recorders (aka "black boxes"), we used to tell the crash investigators "there are more airplanes in the ocean than submarines in the sky". -
Quote:I'll second this motion tho I'd say the Belgairad and Malloread are definitely in the top ten alongside other greats like the Elenium and the Tamuli. You have my eternal devotion and loyalty for this statement. The Belgariad and Malloread are the best books ever written (in my humble opinion). Although, to be honest the sword itself wasn't the power... it was the Orb of Aldur that really gave it its claim to fame.

Quote:You young whippersnappers and your re-wards. Why I remember back in the old days when we didn't have any of these fancy geegaws like you have today and we ran TF's like Katie because they were fun.Anything to speed up a Katie is a good idea... the rewards for that TF are pathetic.

Quote:The fact that the development cost has already been paid for isn't relevant. It's a service they aren't making money off of because they are giving it away for free.Just gonna punch a small hole in the idea that they are paying you to pay. The argument still blows the "I'm getting less!" argument out of the water. Yes you do get $5 worth of paragon points and the free server transfer as part of your monthly VIP sub. However the development cost of the server transfer system has probably been long covered so the payed for transfers are mostly profit. So really they are letting you use something that costs them almost nothing for free once a month. They are not paying, they are just not asking for payment.
The transfers are more like free coupons that don't expire. The company isn't going to make any money on the coupons but it's gambling that their customers will be encouraged to use the service more often because they're getting something for free. -
Let's see, there's the tall guy, the fat guy, the spaz, the funny guy, the hot nerdy girl that doesn't realize she's hot. Uhm . . . The practical joker, and the workaholic. Then there's what's her name, and what's his name. There's Bob and the other bob, and the three John's, the airhead, the bit, err I mean the opinionated lady and finally the intern.
I think that's everybody. -
Until a game switches to F2P. Then there will be an influx of arrogant stupidity. With luck it will die down after the "new" wears off of the F2P switchover.

Quote:Ah Diver . . . Shoulda known that. Too many years passed with me using the civvie abbrev for DV.close. You got most of it right.
DV = Diver but yes I'm a disabled vet as well.
My dad was USMC so I thank you for being his water taxi : ) Too bad he died a few months ago or I ask him to say hi. He was 92 and lead a more than full life. He was in better shape when he died (I had a major stroke that left my right side paralyzed 5 yrs ago) than I am physically. Believe it or not he retired from the corp as an enlisted MSGT pilot. Guess it was a WW2 thing.
Sorry to hear about your father. My dad's also in his 90's and is currently in better shape than me. He couldn't serve in WWII due to being partially deaf but he was a line chief for Grumman Aviation and built TBF Avengers.
Also sorry to hear about your stroke. You have my best wishes and all that goes with them. The spinal injury I got only left me with constant pain, though sometimes when it's acting up . . . Nvm. You Embrace the Suck and soldier on.
Anyway I hope you enjoy the game as much as I have. We have a great community here, even tho sometimes we are at each others throats with our arguments, it's nothing personal for most of us. But even a Bubble Head like you is Salty enough to know that goes with the territory.
Sheesh voluntarily getting on a boat designed to sink makes as much sense as jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft. What was it they used to say about submariners? 100 men go out to sea and 50 couples come back.
Kidding! Just kidding.

Quote:Don't forget to mention that if you pay for the game in large blocks that give you a discount per month, THEY are paying YOU to play, essentially.
If you pay for a year in advance your subscription costs about $11 a month or so, and you still get $15 worth of free stuff each month.
Plus you'll still be getting powersets for free that others will have to pay for (Time Manipulation). And everyone who has been subscribed for the past 2 months should have 800 points to spend right off the bat, so if you want Beam Rifle right away, you can have it, right away.
I don't understand the "I'm getting less now!" argument at all.Quote:Pretty much sums up the thread.
Also the competition's free powersets are nothing more than a mix of existing powers. It would be as if the devs took parts of different melee powersets, put them into one powerset and called a "new set". So that comparison to the competition needs to stop as it's a non-starter. -
I could be wrong but I don't think the devs have anything to do with the server status page.

I just got this system in Feb from IBUYPOWER for $1000. Can't promise you'd get the same price, but I'm thrilled with what it can do.
Intel Core i7 870 processor (4x2.93Ghz/8mb l3 cache), 8GB DDR3-1600 RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6850 1GB, 2 TB Hard Drive - 32M Cache - 7200 RPM - 3.0Gb/s
Money was an issue for me and IBUYPOWER's website let me twiddle and tweak the options so I could get what I wanted within my budget.
Hope you end up as happy as I am with whatever you end up getting. -
Quote:Believe me I wish I could have stayed in. I would have had my 20 in 2005 if I didn't get out in 90 with a disability.Actually, I'm retired now so you can catch up : )
MMC/SS/DV (ret)
Now let's see if my memory is any good.
MMC Machinist Mate Chief
SS Submarine Service
DV ah that always means Disabled Vet to me. Can't recall if it means something else.
I got out as a Deck-Ape SN in the Gator Navy, USS Austin LPD-4, Sixth Fleet, Order of the Rock. -
Quote:My vote would be multiple instancing of each zone like the system originally is Aion. I have no idea if it still exists. While they did have individual servers I think a port of that system here would be great. Atlas park to crowded? Just zone to AP12. Use the 1global system to add repeatable names. I got no idea on how to solve the SG name issue.
We already have a feature that creates multiple zones when one becomes too crowded.
The problem isn't with server population, the problem is with players that
1. refuse to take the initiative and use the tools provided to form their own teams. They just want to sit there like a lump and wait for someone else to do the work of getting a team together, and
2. some of the people complaining have such pleasant personalities that they've gotten themselves 1 starred and /gignored by a significant portion of their server community so they can't find anyone willing to put up with them. Rather than pay for a server transfer where their bad reputation isn't as well known they whine for server merges.
3. Some of the people simply have unrealistic expectations. For example a recent complaint about server population and finding teams was made by someone upset that he can never find teams in the middle of the week in the late morning/early afternoon on the NA servers.
He couldn't grasp the concept that most Americans are at work or in school at that time, and if he wants to find teams he needs to hook up with the EU players.
Quote:Never happen though. Server transfers = revenue
The only people that will be buying transfers are the impatient ones that never plan ahead. -
