Quote:Since i had my "epiphany" it is. Prior to that, I honestly thought there MIGHT be some merit to claims that pre-purchases MAY have explicitly stated that Incarnates were included. IF they could but show it. But that devolved into a load of horse-pucky and I'm glad I was able to get out of the conversation.
To my current way of thinking, that conversation was, and this one still is completely irrelevant. But other people have the right to their beliefs and to explore/argue them, as they will. Even if I think that they are wasting their energies.
Want another good laugh? There's a thread up in player questions where the OP is angry that the devs are adding stuff to the store faster than he can earn free points to buy it with his subscription. It's so unfair he can't get everything for free as soon as it's released.

Quote:free accounts cannot even join sgs, but premium should be able to pay base rent, if not then that is not good (although premium cant create an sg that could be reason for not paying base rent)
If it's WAI, I've got speculations on why they can't pay rent but they could easily be wrong. -
Here's the bugs I've encountered
1. I'm not getting any sound from powers, glowies etc.
2. Clickable objects and targetable objects are invisible.
3. Power effects and auras are invisible.
4. Capes and costume auras are invisible.
5. Fog of War keeps returning to cover zones I've cleared.
Now while the last three are annoying, the first two have made it virtually impossible to complete any mission where there is an objective that needs to be clicked on to complete. -
Quote:with how much salvage we can store per character that may or may not have been really it lolQuote:That was the initial reasoning we were given at the time.
That is why the first reason doesn't hold water any better than a steel sieve. (as we knew it wouldn't)
Please remember that a lot of players find the hoops we have to jump thru to store items on different characters to be a pain in the butt and simply don't bother. So it was an effective deterrent in that respect. -
Quote:1. We are all gamers and there are alot of us! therefore ElvnSword represents the people he knows and the people they know and ect.
That's funny cuz I was told by all the people he knows and all the people they know that they want Arcanaville to represent them because they agree with everything she's been saying. -

Quote:Depends on how long ago they started laying the groundwork on this new business model.Agreed, to me it never made a lot of sense to have the storage racks be the basis for rent costs. Just do away with rent entirely.
The rent on storage conveniently prevents players from using Prem accounts to creating solo storage SG's.
We also know the devs are dead set against making it easy for us to create solo SG's. In a recent U stream they said if they ever worked on a feture to allow SG invites by email they wouldn't allow us to send the invites to characters on the same account.
Just saying. -

Quote:Thousands? I remember an article about a guy that dropped three hundred grand to buy a player owned space station in one F2P game.Actually, the real reason is fairly well known.
While it's true that they'll make additional revenue from people who pick up the game and subscribe or buy points, and they'll make additional revenue from people who would have quit but instead continue playing as premium... the real reason is always to make more money from subscribers.
The general pattern of these games is that a subset of the population spends many times more than the average player. This is something that just can't be tapped from a subscription model - no matter how much you want to, it's not possible to spend more than $15/month on the game. NCSoft tried to make some inroads on this with booster packs, but compared to the hundreds (and thousands) of dollars that are dropped by 'whales' on these games, it just didn't compare.
(There's numerous examples of people spending thousands of dollars a month on F2P MMOs.) -
Quote:Oh there will be some people with the willpower to do that but most will see something and start making rationalizations. It will start out with, just this once, I can use the money from the sub on stuff in the store, or even it's only $5-$10 dollars more than what the sub used to be.You may end up being right about that. But I'm assuming, perhaps incorrectly, that subbers who go premium do so because they don't want to spend any more money on the game, period. They don't intend to "make another purchase", content with what remains accessible to them as a preemie.
-
Quote:Only the few that never make another purchase. This is a simple case of penny wise dollar foolish. The Prems almost always end up spending more than they did with their subs.Except that has to be weighed against the % of existing subscribers who elect to drop to premium status.
The players that actually save money are the subs because they are now getting all the free perks for subbing that wasn't available on the old business model. -
Quote:/What Zombie said. They did on my 'items purchased' after sale totals. Alas, no screenshot. But still, when you get shown 12 items listing 33 each, what do you think initial assumptions will be?

Yeah. They cost as low as 20 points and as high as 60 points individually with most being 40 points.

Quote:Just an observation and not one I like if my silly wild *** guess is right but it's possible that not being able to pay rent was intended as an incentive to subscribe.Have we had any indication that Premiums being unable to pay rent is working as intended? If they can join an SG, enter the base and use the equipment therein, it doesn't make sense that they can't pay the rent.
It makes Prems decide between having a base that isn't completely functional or subbing to get full access. -
/HELLYEAH!
Or at least add the basic name in parenthesis at the end. -

Quote:What DJ said is what we were told, and while I would have preferred being able to choose a service from a list each month, (Name Change, Respec, Server Transfer) I'm grateful to get what we are getting.Hmm, the value of the server transfer is questionable, but its a fair point. And the points.definitely. Do the server transfers stack? I would hope so as I wouldn't use them very often.

Quote:Since you asked a valid and serious question to my tongue in cheek post I'll answer accordingly. But then wouldn't they get less answers, potentially? I mean, the point of having that section is so that they can ask questions, and VIPs would be the best potential answers.
We have many VIP's either switching to Premium or owning secondary accounts that will be Premium so couldn't they answer those questions on those accounts? -
And if a player pays for his sub quarterly $13.95 per month, biannually $12.95 per month, or annually $11.95 per month the company is actually paying them to keep their account active.

Quote:Nicely said. And as an "Old Guard" player myself, who started in May of 2004, I disagree. City of Heroes has never been better, I've never had more fun with it and I've never had more things to look forward to. Especially counting the last year of iCrap and not much else, Freedom is a godsend.
What's more, now that "you get what you pay for," this has enabled me to vote with my money. I no longer have to worry about what someone on the art team feels looks good, because I get what I choose to get. If I want large weapons for women, then I say so. When large weapons for women come out, I WILL pay for it. This gives incentive to the development team to develop what players are asking for, as opposed to what their "vision" dictates people should want.
"You can get it in any colour, as long as it's black" no longer applies to the game, and if this costs me a few extra dollars a month, that power alone is more than worth it. City of Heroes is still by FAR the cheapest form of entertainment that I know of which is actually entertaining for more than a day, and if I have to pay for it, I will pay for it. -
Quote:Uhm the only time VIP's have to pay for anything is when they don't want to wait until they have accrued enough free points. There is nothing on the new market they need to play the game. How far your stipend goes seems to be entirely dependent on how much you actually want. If you want all the inventory increases, you're going to be out hundreds of dollars. If you actually want to buy recipes and other consumables for in-game, you'll be out even more.
If, however, you're like me and all you ever wanted was the costumes and powersets - and even then only the ones you could use - then I can definitely see that money being more than enough. Depending on whether I buy the Circle of Thorns set or not when hourly maintenance is over - and without the pope hat, I most likely won't - I'll probably have enough for Street Justice even if that came out tomorrow.
It's all just a matter of balancing patience with Gotta have it now.
