Pure bulldookey. The only way that would hold water is if this game never had an RMT problem and/or chat restrictions. But the truth of the matter is it did and the chat restrictions were in place years before the game went F2P, and they virtually eliminated RMT spam.

You get the 400 points next month on the date your sub is renewed and each following month on that same date.
Everyone who had an active sub before I21 launched already got the points they were due this month when they started the Headstart regardless of the date their sub activated.
Edit: From a similar thread asking the same question.
Quote:We were supposed to get all reward tokens up front, but the devs couldn't get it to function (not that they were misinformed), so reward tokens should now award alongside your pp monthly on your billing date.Quote:As existing VIP subscribers, when the City of Heroes Freedomâ„¢ Head Start began, your game accounts automatically received credit for being active in September, as your first month of having VIP status. Paragon Points were awarded on the date Head Start began, instead of on your monthly billing date.
Going forward from October you will receive your Paragon Points on your game account's billing date as long as you maintain VIP status. -

Quote:I think it's right that F2P players can't initiate tells, but they should be able to respond to a tell from another player. This would obviously require changes to the system, but I think it would help new players get on decent teams. Spammers would be unable to harass you unless you contacted them first.
I ran into this problem the other day when I was logged in to an old trial account that was converted to a level 1 premium account (level 2 is required for tells). I was about to log out when someone asked if I'd like to run a TF. I tried to do the polite thing and let them know I was logging. But I couldn't -- I got an error message instead.
Proper CoH etiquette is to send a tell before inviting someone to a team -- most of us despise getting blind invites and categorically reject them. But if an F2P player gets a tell they can't respond, which means they're not going to get on teams with people who know what they're doing.
This is a also inconvenient for VIP players who follow good gaming etiquette. They have no way of knowing the person they just sent a tell to can't respond, so they'll assume that person is rude, not interested or afk.
This limitation also teaches new players bad etiquette -- to blindly invite others.
I completely agree that F2P players shouldn't be able to initiate a conversation. But the system should be changed to remember who sent the F2P player tells during the current system and allow tells back to those players, either with the current tell command or a new respond command.
If that's not possible, then we should be able to see who can't respond to tells in the /search window so that we can just invite them.
Ya know VIP's and Prem's that have unlocked their chat channels can easily get Freebs to join their teams when recruiting by simply including the location where they are doing their recruiting.
We've been using the same technique for years forming costume contests, GM killing teams where the GM has random spawn points, Zone raids, Holiday events, AE farms, etc.
Team forming for Twinshot's story-arc next to Twinshot. Stop by or send tell for invite.
Sewer team forming at the Sewer entrance. 7 slots left.
Manticore TF forming next to Manticore in Brickstown.
Tanker Tuesday teams forming next to the IP entrance in King's Row.
BAF forming in Pocket D
Mothership raid forming in RWZ outside base entrance
Hami Raid forming . . .

Quote:Glad your amused but the only thing in my post that could be construed as inaccurate was my prediction about the Rocket Board, and many people have argued that it isn't a true travel power because they can't use any powers while it's active. Personally I disagree with the logic that it's not a travel power.Definitely a necro'd thread, however I did LOL at reading this on the first page and then realizing most of it got implemented as the OP meant instead of what was stated in this quote :P. This is the inherent danger of such comments though
.
Especially the hoverboard comment. You can quibble and say rocketboard but I delight in using it on the ground and having it be a hoverboard
.
I still maintain that we'd have gotten more versatility out of creating several Rocket Board costume recipes, and they'd have been a hell of a lot cheaper. Wings and Capes are averages 80-100 points on the market as opposed to the 800 for the Rocket Board power.
One of the greatest features of this game is the flexibility of our costume creator. -
If that's true about all the attuned IO's on the PM then there's even less reason for people to complain. As the devs add more attuned IO's they can still IO out their characters and not worry about the license.
-
And DAMMIT I want to be able to wear boxing shorts while using the Monstrous legs!
I'm grateful for the Rocket Board but I really need the boxer shorts over the bird legs. (This character predates I21. He used Power Slide to surf) -
Quote:To be honest I think the reason is more along the lines of how popular our costume creator is. As with everything some people will think it's overpriced while others think it's a bargain because it's a bargain.Well, no doubt, however it's price tag is prolly double what it should be. Then again I suppose they balance the price by the fact your more likely to reroll if you don't have it. For every person you have that work on though, there is another miffed that they have to spend 10 bucks to even have full functionality of the tailors, VIP or no.
Personally I only used it once just after it came out because I had a perv harassing a character of mine (she's a child/teen heroine) trying to get me to ERP. He must have had me on his friends list because he'd show up every time I logged onto her.
I bought the Science booster, unlocked a second costume slot and used the Super Tailor to create a Humongous male in orange prison coveralls. The very next time he showed up to pester me I changed to my Prisoner costume and told him, "You my little puppy now baby. You gots a real purty mouf, Daddy gonna make you squeal lak a pig."
I never saw him again. -
Quote:Too low for too much. However, I've been suggesting that in the same spirit of unlocking individual character slots permanently the devs should probably add a way to unlock inventions on a specific character slot permanently. Something like 300-400 points to permanently unlock a character for invention use might be fair. You'd then have two options to use inventions: a 30 day temp license that would allow you to use them on all characters in your account, and a permanent license that would unlock inventions on a single character forever.

Quote:70% of mine use only TO's, DO's, SO's, and HO's. and of the 30 percent that use IO's only 2 are fully IO'd out with basic IO's and none of them use IO sets.So all of your characters are running around with SOs then? No basic IOs or sets in any of them?
I have 100+ characters (back up to three accounts with I21) -
Quote:Sadly while the Big Annoyance is gone now we have to endure the Little Annoyances that keep trying to sabotage the Great Barrier.Haven't I seen this on TV Tropes?
"Long ago, the wizards all banded together and created the Great Barrier, to keep the Big Annoyance from pestering us ever again!"
"Well yeah, but that was a long time ago, and I wasn't even alive then! So we should bring the Great Barrier down because the Big Annoyance isn't even around anymore!"
"...but the Big Annoyance is gone because of the Great Barrier."
"That's what I mean! The Big Annoyance is gone now, so we don't need the Great Barrier!"

Quote:No one has made any snarky responses. There are plenty of players that live on tight budgets and can't afford the $2 bucks the license would cost. I personally know from experience how hard it is to keep an account active while on a fixed income. I've had only my disability to live on for 5 years.lol at unsigned and snarky response.
I agree that if someone took the time to IO out a toon, then they should be able to use those IOs. Lock the new toons, let the people use the IOs they already have.
Using the second and third builds for regular enhancements allows players to continue to enjoy the game on characters that have the first build IO'd out. -
Quote:And yet the fact remains that /tell spam has been eliminated by the restrictions. So while you can believe whatever you like the truth is the restrictions work and won't be removed. That was kind of my point.
If you can receive /local spam, then there is a good chance that your character can be seen. And that would open you to the /tell spam, just as much as the /local.
And I do not think anyone is talking emails. I thought this was about /tell being overly restrictive, not anything else. Emails are currently pretty locked down. Can't do it before 10th level, can't do more than one per 15 seconds...
My opinion still stands though. If /tell was restricted from free accounts solely to prevent RMTers (as in absolutely no other reason) then it isn't all that effective. There are still other ways around it. Pay wall doesn't even stop it directly, as there are some RMTers that advertise in other games that only have paid accounts. (Granted, that game probably does have more exposure than CoH.)
Oh and those other games you are referring to when you claim the pay wall wasn't effective, well those accounts were either hacked, or stolen from players using RMT transactions. The RMT sites didn't buy their own accounts. -

If the 160 points ($2 dollars) it costs to unlock IO's for a month is too expensive for a players budget then they can use their characters second, and third builds to slot regular enhancements. -
And it won't be used. The people you see standing around for 30 minutes or more are too lazy to use it. We've watched them do it for years. We've even seen them standing next to each other waiting for someone else to invite them to a team when they could have formed their own team and been off playing the game instead of wasting time whining that they can't find a team.

Quote:Last night I was in Atlas, recruiting for 'Death from Below'. I noticed some serious problems.
The first problem was that while F2P players seemed interested, they were having trouble finding me to express that interest since they couldn't respond to me in broadcast or private tells.
A couple of them who were in visual range of me walked up to me so that they could express interest in local chat.
You know you could tell people where you are at when you are recruiting your teams in broadcast or whatever channel you are using.
"Death from Below team forming under the statue at City Hall. Come on over if you want an invite."
It's worked for years whenever people want to hold a costume contest. -
Yes it is true. We only buy a limited license to use the service content and software, it was not sold to us.
-
And yet the history of chat restrictions on free trials has shown it has been 99% effective in stopping RMT spam. Global, tell, broadcast, and email spam is nonexistent. So as we have seen the RMT sites don't bother paying for accounts to send spam.
