Quote:As far as price increases go compared to other games CE's that isn't too bad an increase. I've seen CE's going for $250, $400, and even $2,500.Good luck on that one, the DVD CE's are becoming increasingly rare, and most of the ones I've seen these days are close to $100.
Still I don't expect anyone except the crazy to pay $100 bucks for an old temp power. -
Quote:And in the months since, IMO, they've done absolutely #%$@-all to follow up on that, or fix the many other issues with this no-longer-new-and-shiny feature.
An ultimatum followed by zero enforcement serves no one and solves nothing.
So the people that pop up right after every new exploit gets stomped demanding to know why they can't access or delete their AE farms are all just shills planted by the company?
Yeah right.
Furthermore you have been here long enough to know that the company doesn't publish any information about who or how many people have had disciplinary action taken against them. We only hear about it when some fool is stupid enough to whine about getting caught, and wants sympathy. -
A bit of advice to buying games online, don't buy anything that doesn't say "Factory Sealed". Cuz the only thing you need from those boxes is the code, and if the box has been opened that code can easily have been used and you just bought garbage.

Quote:We are not talking about farming exploits, just farming.
If farms that don't use exploits are not bannable then its perfectly okay for them to be labelled as farms.
If farms that don't use exploits are bannable then ban and delete them.
1. But the exploiters don't admit they were nailed for exploiting. They lie and claim they had an innocent farm when they complain. Company policy doesn't allow GM's to respond one way or the other so all we get is their unconfirmable version of what happened., and anyone that doesn't agree with them gets labelled a fanboi, troll, brown noser forum cartel, etc.
2. Not if the devs don't want to, and I haven't seen any statements from them saying they've changed their minds. If there is one can someone link it cuz I'd like to save it for future reference instead of relying on out of date info.
3. They do. -
They do police and ban the exploit farms as fast as they can when they crop up. The reason you hardly hear about them now is that exploits are harder and harder to find. More may crop up when they get around to adding new stuff to the AE.

Quote:The people that do this don't care about what they skip. They are only concerned about endgame. They can't understand that this game isn't all about the endgame. In their minds they can't enjoy a game unless they are all powerful. It's entirely possible to level to 50 doing nothing but the trial - but I suspect it would get transcendentally boring fairly quickly past level 20 or so.
MaestroMavius also raises a good point in that not only do you rush past the levels by PLing, because of the autoexemplaring to level 1-5 you never get a chance to use said powers and evaluate how well they do or don't work for you until you stop running the sewer trial and try them out in other content.
I'll likely still regularly use it for to get a new lowbie character up to scratch, or for some quick fast XP to a midbie when I've cleared my tips and don't feel like soloing, but I'd highly recommend that especially newer players use it sparingly past level 10 or so.
I say let them have at it. The sooner they realize this isn't the type of game they like the sooner they'll leave. Don't force them to be miserable. Then they'll only hang around complaining and scaring away players that would like the game. -
Quote:It's both. Not all farms are exploits but all exploits are farmed. The devs are against farming exploits.so which is it? are the devs for or against farms? if the devs approved, why would farm builders think they are at risk? if they didn't approve, why aren't the devs doing something about it?
Farm builders are afraid that they will get lumped in with the exploiters, when the exploiters bad behavior brings the hammer down on everyone. It's no different than how innocent players got smacked with free account restrictions because the RMTer's started abusing free accounts.
The devs did do something. They banned the worst offenders, they permanently locked characters that were power leveled using the exploits, they permanently locked AE publishing slots that were used to make AE exploit farms, and they flat out told everyone:
Quote: Players are urged to avoid using common farming terms in their story title and/or descriptions. Even if its a joke, DO NOT run the risk of having an arc banned and requiring Customer Support to grant you your publishing slot back.
And they put that into effect a month after the AE launched. -

Just guessing but from some of the slang Boris uses I'd guess he isn't in the US so the name in question may not have registered as a violation with the EU mods. Assuming of course he had an EU account at the time.
-
Not against the idea but I can already see the whining when some players realize that they can't make other costumes for those characters because the powers that are linked to the power armor pieces can't be turned off and ruin how all their alternate costume look.
Yes I'm talking about the Crab Spider arms that never go away. -
I believe you are right that anchor points are the issue but I also would love to do something like this as well.
I'd also like more options like the robotic arms for the legs because I have concepts that want to use more than just a pirate's peg leg. -
Quote:Thanks for reminding me of the scumbag woman that pulled that very stuntLet's say you have a store that gives out free samples in hopes of getting you to buy the product that you are sampling.
Now lets say you have a person who comes into the store every single day faithfully and tries each and every sample.
It doesn't matter if they keep coming back to the store for three months, three years or three decades. Unless they actually buy something they aren't a customer at all let alone a good customer. And the only reason to give them a real product for free would be as a bribe to keep them away and leave the samples for people who might actually buy something.
at a local club store I used to live near. (A friend whose a cop told me about this) Seems she was showing up with her kids every day for several months and slowly going round and round the store hitting all the free sample food stands with her 2 kids and then leaving without buying anything.
No one actually cared about what she was doing, but one day the store changed it's policy and cut back drastically on giving out free samples. When scumbag came in with the kids for free food and found out she went ballistic. Started a huge scene at the CS desk and screaming at the manager demanding compensation etc.
Just to shut the scumbag up and get her out of the store the manager decided to refund the membership fee. He got her name and went to pull it up in their computer, but he couldn't find it. He asked for her husbands name, and she said she wasn't married. So he asked for her membership card to pull up the account.
Turns out the scumbag was using someone else's membership card. The manager called the cops and while waiting for them to show up apologized and said there was a computer problem causing a delay. When the cops (my friend) showed up and questioned her about her identity it was discovered she had stolen her grandmothers cards, including a couple of credit cards. Needless to say she was arrested. -

Quote:They were also super heroes themselves. You mean the masters of the space-time continuum?
Bubblegum Tate: Sweet Clyde, laugh derisively at him!
Sweet Clyde: Ha ha! Ha ha! Ah Ha ha ha!
Multiman - Hubert "geese" Ausbie - Power of cloning
Sphereman or Super Sphere - Freddie "Curly" Neal - Power of turning into a basketball
GizmoMan - Louis "Sweet Lou" Dunbar - Power of hiding a lot of gadgets in his afro
Spaghettiman - James "twiggy" Sanders - Power of turning into spaghetti (also deathly afraid of Italian restaraunts)
Liquidman - Nate Branch - Power of turning himself into a puddle of water. He also spelled Liquid with an "F". Damn inner city school education.

Quote:Collectors Editions always cost more than the regular price of any soon to be released product. In the case of the one I've seen the free players refer to when complaining about what they don't get for free in this game, the CE costs twice the basic edition.Umm!? The game that is coming out in 2 months was non specific so I don't know what you read into that. Fact is, "there will always be a new game coming out in 2 months." The freeloaders who want it all for nowt will always complain they don't get enough while blowing ludicrous amounts of spendaloobry on other such things whilst claiming they cannot afford the most basic of services for the game they are using right now.
-
Quote:And where exactly does it say the game is a Free 2 Play business model? Oh that's right it doesn't. There is also nothing stating access is unlimited. This?
http://na.cityofheroes.com
I am not challenging they way the game is set up, I agree for the most part with that, but I think this splash screen does indicate that the game is free to play. Forever.
What next? Are you going to claim they have an obligation to keep the servers running after they one day shut the game down because they used the word "forever"? -
Quote:That's a load of garbage. If the devs were against farming they would put timers on all missions and make them non-repeatable. They have never been against farming, just against the people that abuse the system to get the most rewards for the lowest risk.Which is a damn shame, and I wish (among other things) that Positron had stuck to his guns and done what he had to to get rid of the farmers, not capitulated to them.
As long as the risk/reward ratio is balanced you can farm to your hearts content.
They don't want to use farming terms because the exploiters and abusers will latch onto them as a defense to hide amongst innocent players, just like they did during the AE crack-down trying to stir up support with lies and fear-mongering. -
Quote:Try double that amount in a lot of cases. The collectors edition is running $150 bucks and pre-orders for it were sold out in a few hours after it went on sale, and they had to increase the amount they were going to sell due to the demand.I have seen those in help chat complaining they get little for free and that they could get so much more by having just this and just that. That they cannot afford to pay a little bit of cash to get what they want to make their gaming experience far, far better because they are spending $40-$60 on the new game coming out in 2 months, C'mon.

I'd kill the dude from the future and steal his time machine. Then I'd paint the machine blue, think up a cool name, wear a long coat, hat, and a scarf . . . grab some pretty companions, a robot dog, and set off for adventures across the timeline.
Oh and I mustn't forget my towel. Never go anywhere without your towel. -
Quote:I'd just like to state for the record that I'm not particularly for or against my own suggestion, I've just noticed that the primary "complaint" from Free players is the lack of access to Tells, Broadcast, Globals and so forth and so this was a possible way to offer loyal players - who may have spent money but not enough to unlock Globals for example - a way to obtain those things and therefore keep them playing.
Sorry but they just want more for free. It only costs a one time expenditure of $5 bucks to unlock those chat channels. Everyone can afford that. If they aren't willing to spend $5 bucks on the channels they aren't gonna spend anything at all. -

I wish it worked that way. My Tank Isdjeveln Jordskjelv has to remain on /hide and red flagged nearly all the time just to stop all the blind invites he gets. He still gets tells from people that see him passing by and want a tank.

Quote:Actually one of the things I was thinking was if we actually succeed at developing genetic manipulation on the level the OP is talking about how long would it be before the Japanese started selling real live Cat-Girls as pet/playmates. Genetically bred to be obedient, submissive, low intelligence, and an overclocked libido. And since they aren't human they wouldn't have human rights. This; the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Or even worse, what if a morally neutral or "evil" person uses this technology? Imagine people purposefully made into sheeple.
Or take a page out of Heinlein's book Friday, where AP's (Artificial People) are second class citizens that can be bought and sold, but have no rights because they weren't born of a human mother.
Another example of that would be the show Space Above and Beyond where Tanks (test tube babies) were mass produced and treated as less than human.
Genetics could allow us to rise so very high, yet at the same time we could fall to our worst levels imaginable.
