  1. I don't have kids but that was horrifying to watch. I'm not ashamed to say I had to throw up. I can't in say anything else because the Mods would have to take action, but this is one time I'm literally shaking with rage.

Just like to point out that it's not an exploit if it's working as intended. This was thoroughly beta tested before it went live.

Me giving good advice? Scary huh. Just in time for Halloween.
  4. I wonder if they'll do a song and dance episode like Whedon did on the Buffy show.
  5. I think Feycat said it best in another thread on this same topic.

Let them enjoy playing the game the way they want. They aren't breaking any rules and it's none of our damn business.

Just as, in some cases, four players can have difficulty with things "balanced" for four players, depending on what exactly they are running and what they run into.

And how exactly did they come up with the magical number of exactly 4 for this? Three was too little, but 5 was just entirely too much? Come on...
    Fixed that for you.

For the record the devs are not responsible for player incompetence.
  7. This is just as epically funny as Walken reading Lady Gaga lyrics.

TBH I've learned to add that last sentence because I've found that some people take being told that the CoH CE isn't that expensive as a personal insult that's as offensive as the word "Belgium".

Would they feel less like dirt if the company went back to the old business model where they had the same chat restrictions, but could only play for free for 2 weeks, couldn't get a character above level 14, and had an inf cap of 50k?

    ....
But we have seen some of them come to the forums and complain. I recall one girl that got all 5 of her accounts banned one night because she was upset that she got nailed for exploiting the AE. The Mods were very busy that weekend.

They can buy a prepaid credit card over the counter at many stores or even use paypal.

Or if that someone just plainly does not have the money?
If their budget is that tight then they have more important things to be worrying about than not being able to chat in the game.

If I may use your own phrase, let's keep things in perspective. We're talking about a one time expenditure of $5 bucks, not a monthly subscription. If they were charging $5 bucks each month I'd say you had a valid argument.

Then they can't afford a computer to play the game on nor the price of internet service. I've been managing to keep my account active by carefully budgeting the $8 grand a year which is my annual income. If I can do it while supporting 2 senior citizens so can they.

Edit: And seriously if their budget is so tight that they can't come up with $5 dollars to spend on a game just once then this really isn't the game for them.

Ok, so 2 hours daily downtime necessary or not,
All online games have downtime, we all have to deal with it.

Rude and uncooperative players (i have come up against a fair few) not to mention the people that care more about proving people wrong in broadcast/help
All online games have obnoxious players, and Free accounts attract more of those types of players. They aren't paying any money for the game so they don't care how they act. Some of them even get a kick out of trying to find out how fast they can get banned then making another free account to pick up where they left off. That's the price we pay for switching to a hybrid business model.

and forums after doing their own research without a care for the condescension and or insults the answers/arguments contain, don't get me wrong there are a whole bunch of nice and friendly people the play this game but you wont find them here
You're entitled to form that opinion if you like but these are by far the friendliest forums I have ever seen, and I'd say that the majority of people that have had any experience with the forums of other online games agrees.

  14. Well, I wouldn't mind seeing them do a general purge once a year on everything just for spring cleaning.

    The Colony

Where would the drama be if they cast people that were useful and didn't have personalities that clashed?

Free players can't use broadcast? Because of RMT spam

Does it inconvenience brand new players that are nothing but friendly, genuinely interested people? Yes, it does. But without those restrictions, we'd have a whole host of other problems to deal with, and those problems would be felt by every player, from free to VIP.
    This.

I'm sorry to hear you feel that way but this wasn't something that was in a "patch note". It's been argued over ever since it was first implemented. and when Freedom was announced in June of this year it has been clearly advertised, not hidden in patch notes.

    http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/freedom/about-freedom/

and argued over in dozens of threads (as well as ingame) on a weekly basis.

The devs even responded on 9/29/11 with this explanation as to why they choose to continue with the chat restrictions.

But if you do decide to take a break from the game, I hope you find it relaxing and when you come back with your batteries recharged you'll be able to dive into the game and enjoy all the new stuff that will have been added during your absence.

That can't be right, seeing as everything we've been told indicates they aren't supposed to be able to.
I may be wrong (and in this case I hope I am) but all I think /r does is bring up the request channel, and if your on a free account you can't use it.

You've been playing the game long enough to know that free accounts haven't been able to send tells since May of 2008. Over three years ago.

If you and your friend wanted to talk you could have easily done it on the /Friends channel since you claim that you put yourselves on each others /friends list.

Once again Free accounts haven't been able to join super groups for over three years. That went into effect in May of 2008 as well.

Free accounts haven't been able to do that for three years either.

How am I to convince her that this is a beautiful game with social people, when she's not allowed to communicate with them? I understand that having the possibility to send tells to random people might be restricted, but not to be able to send tells to global friends or to accept invites to supergroups and user channels removes so much of the experience that I'll doubt that I can convince her to join up again.
If a one time expenditure of $5 bucks is to much for your friend to spend on this game to unlock tells, supergroups, and ingame email then she'll just have to do without.

You get what you pay for.
