There's never going to be an effective solution other than eliminating Free accounts ability to use chat channels which would be insane, and banning people stupid enough to admit they use those services.

In general hoarders do not hoard to keep things away from others. They hoard things because they think they'll need them later. They keep a newspaper because they'll need to wrap a fish tomorrow. Then they keep a week's worth of newspapers because they haven't had time to read the comics. Then they keep a month's worth so they can clip all the coupons. Then they keep a year's worth so they can give it to the Boy Scout's recycling drive. But then they never get around to giving them away, because they need to hang on to them in case they need to refer to the articles about car maintenance, but don't have the time right now to cut them out and file them.

Compulsive hoarders can hoard almost anything: cats, dogs, rabbits, books, newspapers, household items, old tin cans. In the beginning they keep stuff that they need outright, then stuff they'll need next month, then stuff that's just too useful to throw away, then stuff their kids might need, then stuff their grandkids will need (after they're born), then stuff that it just would be damned a shame to see in the trash. It's a real obsessive-compulsive psychological disorder that ruins people's lives.

There's a fine line between hoarders and collectors, but collectors are usually more discriminating and cognizant of practical limits.

In the game people start keeping drops that they don't have enough inf to craft just now. Then they start keeping things that they'll need when they do a respec. Then they start keeping things that their alts will need when they level up. Then they start keeping things that their Titan Weapons scrapper will need, whenever that gets released. Then they start hoarding IOs that they think their friends' alts will need when they finally get around to rolling them. Mostly they justify this by saying it will save inf and time later. And that's true enough.

At first people just hoard purple recipes, then high-demand oranges like Kinetic Combats, then generally useful oranges like Positron's Blast, then high-demand yellows like Reactive Armor, then useful yellows like Thunderstrike, and then ubiquitous yellows like Ruin in case they want to Frankenslot an alt some day.

If you're saving things on a character that you're not going to use in the immediate future, you're hoarding. I'm not criticizing you for doing it, and I'm not saying it's wrong, because I hoard IOs and admit it freely. I'd classify myself as a level 4 (Reactive Armor/Steadfast: +Def) hoarder. But I'll gladly sell off a purple in order to get enough inf to buy a different purple, or give one to a friend who needs it if I've got spares.

If you're keeping large quantities of salvage and IOs in a bin for months and years without using it, you're hoarding. Just admit it.

By placing limits on the number of recipes characters can hold on to, and adding hurdles to make hoarding IOs harder, the devs encourage greater circulation in the market.

Not that long ago rare salvage often went for 2-4 million. Now most pieces are about a million, and often less. If salvage bins could still store thousands of items, most of that rare salvage would be sitting in bins instead of being bought and used. Because, you know, I might need it some day.
Nicely explained and agreed with 110%.

Uhm just to clarify. The devs have never said that this was impossible or unreasonable. They just said they don't want to do it because they know how frequently players will hoard if given the chance, and limiting storage amounts forces players to make decisions on what uncrafted recipes they really want to hang onto.

    Edit: added the word "how".

Yeah the "I'm too poor to craft" argument won't fly with the devs. They know for a fact from data mining how easy it is for us to make inf hand over fist. Not to mention the easy to follow player guides the market gurus have posted to help players get rich.

A file cabinet that allowed each SG character to store 15-30 recipes each like the personal vault would be a welcomed addition.
No argument there. We've been saying that for years now.

    Quote:
That's not going to result in hording. It's going to result in a greater market flow since you can clear the recipes that you really want to keep out of your character's personal recipe file until you can afford to make them, and then keep selling the others. Otherwise your carry inventory gets filled up with stuff you're trying to keep and you can't collect and sell enough to make them up. If you're full all the time you can't get additional drops... which means you're stuck.
Once again the devs know that that isn't true. They know all it takes to clear out space of junk recipes is a 5 second stop at an NPC store. The recipes that are actually valuable can quickly be dropped in an email or put in temp storage in a market slot without a price.

Besides the devs just gave everyone the ability to increase their characters personal recipe storage by 50 slots via market purchase. That makes the max we can carry 75 recipes. So it's very unlikely they'll add more recipe storage to bases.

I have an SG I inherited just after the devs castrated the salvage storage limits from 2,500 per bin to 30 per bin. The SG had over 16,000 pieces of assorted Base Salvage. Not Invention Salvage, Base Salvage. They weren't even bothering to convert it to Brain Storms or attempting to collect a complete set of Base Salvage.

Given the chance people will hoard anything and they will hold onto it for no good reason, even if it's garbage that has absolutely no use anymore.

You profess the ideal that the game should be inclusive of many playstyle preferences and in the same breath tell both the Raid lovers and the soloists to only play the way you like.

Guess what, this game is big enough to have all playstyles represented. We can have big raids, regular team sized content, and purely solo content.

You just love nitpicking don't you?
What part of the word "solo" do you find confusing? The "so" or the "lo"?

    so·lo/ˈsōlō/

    Verb:

    1. Perform something unaccompanied, in particular.

    Noun:

    2. A thing done by one person unaccompanied, in particular.

    Adjective:

3.For or done by one person alone; unaccompanied: "a solo album".

    Synonyms:

    single - solitary - sole

Allowing people to team defeats the purpose of it being a solo path. If people want to team up and do Incarnate content they can do the trials which were intended to be done with team mates.

Trouble is, those two aren't really magical creatures. Their back-story gives them a completely different genesis than the rest of their species. They're lab-created artificial hybrids. I *should* have given them both Science origins... and I would have if I'd paused to give it any thought at the time.

But I didn't, and now they're stuck with origins that don't match their basic concept. (And since both are fully-equipped, 50+3 full Incarnates that I've been playing long enough to get attached to, it's much to late to just to scrap them and start over.)

So, while it's a minor detail with no in-game importance at all, I'd still like the option to change it. Having the "wrong" origin attached to them is like having a little splinter that you can't dig out. Not major by any means, not deadly... but still annoying when you notice it's there.
Now for me the annoyance is the powers that come with Origins. The only one I like is Throwing Knives so I usually take Natural. My concepts nearly always fit multiple Origins so it doesn't bother me that Natural wouldn't be someone else's first choice.
  12. Actual solo content. If they allow teaming it isn't a SOLO Incarnate path.

This time it seems like been a month of lag lag outs and not being able to go to atlas park, first ward, do Trials.etc without lagging. Is there a special problem?

The devs can only do so much about lag on their end. The rest of the problem is outside their ability to fix. For example, the players each have different computers. Some are brand new with the most recent tech and others are old systems that can barely meet the minimum requirements needed to play.

Number 2 With getting rid of galaxy city villans and heros have one entry point. Atlas or Mercy or Praetoria

I often see up to 3 atlas 1 mercy and 1 or 2 praetoria ( depending on sever color)
To me it seems like one starting point maybe troublesome. Any way to have atlas and King row be starting point? or Atlas and hollows or Atlas and Perez park?
I don't know if this would fix number 1 issue or 2 but i am sure it makes for less crowded feeling

Bwa? You don't like the crowded feeling you get seeing people split up between multiple starting zones (Atlas Park 1, Atlas Park 2) so your suggesting they split people up between multiple zones (Atlas Park, Kings Row)?

Do you even understand why Galaxy got the axe when they developed I21 Freedom? It was because nearly the entire games population prefers using Atlas Park. Galaxy City was only being used by players that wanted to avoid everyone that was using Atlas Park. Mainly role players and soloists that wanted peace and quiet.

So even if they replaced Galaxy with another starter zone, nothing will change because Atlas Park is the preferred starting zone for everyone. The only way you could get people to change their minds, would be to get rid of Atlas Park.

anyway to not have the raids in same zone at WST/WTF?

Some of these probably been answered some where my search fu is as weak as my spelling and grammar so if any one can point me to them thank you in advance and sorry for spelling/grammar errors

Raids happen randomly, deal with it.

For answering the survey you get some market points as a reward and for the inconvenience.

Again its just another tool for developers.

  19. I just checked on my secondary Prem account and confirmed that you can delete a character that is on a locked slot. The slot remains locked once deleted.

Now I personally wouldn't delete a 50 until it was unlocked and I had the chance to strip it of all useful items.

Well (within the last 60 days (on a Ustream I believe)) the devs were asked about adding a feature that will let us send SG invites via email and the response was that if they were to add such a feature we would not be allowed to send SG invites to characters on the same account.

I've pretty much given up hope we'll see anything we've been asking for done with bases.

What can the devs do? Any type of channel that the free accounts are given access to is going to be abused by the RMT spam. They are why the draconian restrictions were implemented in the first place.

At least now it is limited to local and /help instead of showing up on every damn channel like it used to.

You are correct and those people are called other MMO customers, where they pay $10, $15, and $25 dollars for non combat pets. Once again CoH prices are below the industry average. You do realize that they are basing their prices on what they see people are willing to pay for similar items in the other MMO stores.

As I see it the restriction is another incentive that encourages Prem's to subscribe and prevents them from creating a bunch of solo bases that they can use for storage, and limits the use of other base functions that incur rental fees. They must choose between limited access or recruiting a VIP into the SG.

The devs are dead set against making it easy for us to create solo bases.
