Quote:No it wouldn't.Disabling the closed league option for holiday events would be a good start.
There's no MoLoW, nor can one person hose the attemp by not clicking the right thing at the right time, nor are there things to stand in. Holiday events don't need the closed option.
Holidays are a time when friends and families spend time together doing things at private parties, semi private, as well as public events. The same feelings apply in game as in real life. So players should be allowed to host closed leagues for their private in game events. -
Quote:Admission: zombie movies completely freak me out on a fundamental level, no matter how lame the movie is, and the issue above is part of why.
While zombies aren't real, the idea of a fatal contagion or major disaster very much is. And the corollary issue of zombies is that until a person turns, they are still a person, and killing them or even just abandoning them is a morally ambiguous act. A related idea would be "Why would anyone care for plague victims, the logical thing to do is kill them before they can spread disease."
Now, people in zombie movies do tend to suffer from one extremely unlikely turn of chance, and that is that every bite has a near 100% chance of transmission, and every case is fatal. While that transmission rate is theoretically possible, a more realistic scenario would be the disease affecting/killing most people, but at least some surviving (although possibly disfigured). Given this fact, the act of killing or abandoning a still living person, if the situation happened in the real world, is fairly complicated. Part of the horror of the situation is (for me at least) zombies used to be people. Horror movies tend to gloss over this by making it very clear when the person has changed from human to monster, but real life would probably be a lot less generous.
Don't forget the power of denial and emotional attachments.
No it's just a scratch.
I can't possibly be infected.
It could never happen to me.
That's my wife!
I've known Jim since childhood.
Scruffy would never hurt me.
It's all just a Nemesis plot.
Dude this'll look great on youtube!
(Sorry bout that last one but stupidity had to make a comeback) -
Quote:Unless the new leader removed everyone's ability to set permissions the poster should also be able to grant permission to pay rent to any rank with the gold star and lower who is a subscriber.Check your permissions. You don't have the red star, but you still have a gold star, and you might be able to set the auto-demote to absolute minimum (15 days) if the permissions are such that level 5s are allowed to change it still. If the guy who got it is one of those folks who's usually idle, you'll get the star back pretty quick.

Quote:(I'm using the generic "you" not personal "you")Note..I have petitioned and had Purple IOs returned, that I have accidently deleted due to lag and crashing. If they can 'give' those things back, after a 5 minute check to be sure I actually HAD said IO...WHY can't they give people back the contents of their bases?
Well base storage was never intended to be extra personal storage even tho a lot of players want to use it as such. When you use base storage you are accepting that everyone who has been given permission to use the bins can take whatever they want. If said enhancement/inspiration/salvage isn't on your character it isn't "yours". It belongs to the SG as community property.
Personally I don't put anything into base storage that I know I want to keep unless it's a solo base under my complete control. It's not that I don't trust my friends and SG mates but I've seen too many misunderstandings happen and I've seen bases get cleaned out, and rosters deleted when players had disagreements with SG leadership or a jerk made a powerplay after getting auto-promoted. -
Quote:And their adamant refusal to make it easy for us to invite our own characters into our SG's.I hate the run away AI in this game. Always have always will because they are not going to change it, because they (the devs) think it is a good idea and makes sense.
Then again these are the same guys that thought gating additional incarnate powers behind 15EM's made sense. Go figure. -
Quote:Hey I'm not saying I agree with it, just offering a possible reason why the devs have it work that way. Sometimes getting answers from them is like pulling teeth. If we're going for realism, the same should be the case for all the other guys with guns bearing down on them. Or maybe a small armies of demons and walking hellfire? Or a Lich crawling out of the ground?
I suppose if absolutely every power in the game caused similar levels of fear, it would make sense. Heck, personally, I think Paragon is a pretty scary place. Everything out to automatically default to "panic" whether it's engaged in combat or not... -
Quote:Apart from the fact that EU accounts cannot purchase year long subscriptions for some bizarre and unanswered reason. *shakes fist*
As for the OP, I managed to get an NA account on my NCSoft Master Account many moons ago but that may have been before they did the whole 'IP recognition' thing. You may need to hide your IP using a proxy maybe but I'm no expert on that.
Good luck.Quote:Go to the PlayNC store, set the language to English (US), then shop for the City of Heroes VIP starter kit. Or just go here.
For reference, the European version of the game can be bought here.
There are almost no differences between the two games. (Add-on codes like the costume codes the developers hand out work with only one version each, for example.)
Note, however, that you will have to pay for your subscription and paragon points in dollars if you create an North American account. This may cause additional costs to your credit card for international use and/or currency conversion. Also, some European payment options (like Paysafecard) are not available for NA accounts. You have been warned.

Is that really the best you can do AW? Telling the truth isn't "being contrary just because". I pity you if the best response you can come up with is childish insults when you can't refute the facts.

Quote:i agree with all this, however ive not had a problem randomly queuing for a DFB since its so easy to run, incarnate trials on the other hand are actually near impossible to pass without enough poeple knowing what is going on, but your reasoning is basically why i never queue for an incarnate trial randomly unless i see a formed group that has a few spots open saying they are entering the queue then ill usually pop in if i have nothing else going on and because i know there is a very good chance ill get on the trial
To be honest it isn't my reasoning. I never do Incarnate trials. They don't interest me. I'm just stating the arguments that were made by posters when they were demanding the ability to make private leagues in the Spring of 2011. -
Quote:Sorry to disappoint you AW but stating facts isn't jumping to conclusions.LOL. you're so cute Forbin, jumping to conclusions and all that.
1. The first incarnate trials went live in April 2011.
2. Shortly after that the forums were alive with complaints, suggestions, and demands for the ability to form private leagues for all the reasons I listed previously and very soon the devs complied.
3. The DFB went live in September 2011. Five months after players had been preforming leagues.
While there are many people that don't like preformed leagues there are more that do. The simple fact that there are people complaining about not being able to join those leagues proves it. -
Uhm they merged the EU and NA servers a while back. There's no difference between EU and NA accounts that I'm aware of.
-
-
Quote:This is pure bull. Preforming leagues was going on long before the DFB was ever added to the game. When the trials were first introduced everyone participating had to gather in the same zone to start the trials. The big problem is that DFB and the Incarnate Trials have trained most players to form up teams -before- joining the queue,
Furthermore there are valid reasons why players prefer preforming teams/leagues.
SG's, Global Channels, and other player organized groups like Tanker Tuesdays sponsor events for themselves and have restrictions on who and what type of characters can participate in the event.
Preformed teams and leagues allow players some control over weeding out leechers and griefers that like to join random trials and in the former do nothing while other players bust their butts, or in the latter case deliberately sabotaging the trials just because they can.
A trial leader can see the players interested in joining and see if he's 1 starred anyone and weed out the bad eggs. -
Quote:Why does this happen in movies? Because it will happen in real life. Why? Well, George Carlin explained it best.Whether its zombie invasion, or mayan prophecy people always make crazy decisions in the doomsday movies. Slight spoilers, I just got back from seeing that darkest day movie, the one with the light energy beings that attack earth. It just amazes me how the cast of the movies are always fated to do stupid things to get themselves or the crew dead or put into danger. I understand they want to make some suspense in the movie but do it another way instead of being dumb. I would list specific examples in this movie but I dont want to give it away for those who have not seen it yet. Just once I want someone to make a movie such that a person makes a logical choice in a doomsday scenerio and still die instead of choosing the most obviously wrong choice and dying. To me doing this makes it feel more hopeless that there is nothing you can do to win.
Quote:Some people are really [pancake]ing stupid!
Did you ever notice that? How many really stupid people you run into during the day?
Gorram there's a lot of stupid [pancakes] walking around.
Carry a little pad and pencil with you. You'll wind up with thirty or forty names by the end of the day.
Look at it this way: Think of how stupid the average person is and then realize that half of them are stupider than that.
And it doesn't take you very long to spot one of them does it? Take you about eight seconds.
You'll be listening to some guy...you say..."this guy is [pancake]ing stupid!"
Then...then there are some people, their not stupid...their full of [pancakes]. Huh?
That doesn't take very long to spot either, does it? Take you about the same amount of time.
You'll be listening to some guy..and saying, "well, he's fairly intelligent......ahht, he's full of [pancakes]!"
Then there are some people, their not stupid, their not full of [pancakes]...their [pancake]ing nuts!
So when you see these characters in movies it's simply realism. -
Maybe they've got something in the works to replace the current base feature and will include personal lairs. Not that I have any hope for it, just speculating on the possibility.
-
The devs were asked about this back in October I think during one of the Ustreams and they flat out told us that if they were ever to add a feature that allowed us to send SG invites to characters that were offline they would deliberately block us from inviting our own characters.
This isn't an issue about players not wanting this (personally I'd love it), it's about the devs not wanting it. -
Quote:Batman has the Batmobile, Wonder Woman has her Invisible Jet, and Ghost Rider has a flaming motorcycle.
I'm pretty sure there are lots of players would would be willing to spend some PP on a YOURNAMEHEREmobile. Plus, it would be a blast to put the armor some of these enemies wear to an unannounced crash-safety test...
Let's see here's the cut and paste Memphis Bill made to save time in responding to this subject since it gets brought up so often and people simply refuse to use the Search tool before posting.

Yes. This is a cut and paste reply that I keep handy, as well as a quick bit of instruction on how to search. Neither are meant to cause fights or to be insulting. The search instructions are in, not just because forum rules say flat out to search, but to help you and anyone else reading this use the search tool effectively.
The body of the cut and paste reply is the way it is because we've seen these arguments numerous times before. They're a summary of the salient points that come up each time. They are not here to insult you, make you feel stupid or otherwise "bring you down a peg." Instead, they are meant as instruction and information. Please read through the points and the explanation behind them to see the issues that are commonly brought up in response. They may not always match your suggestion 100% - in fact, you may have explained around one or two of them - but they're there for consideration and refinement of your idea.
Yes, I do look forward to the time, with some of these suggestions, that someone not only addresses all the points, but does so exceptionally well. It'll probably be added to the end of the cut/paste reply, with credit. For now, though, read and consider the points. They really are just there to help you, and move discussion along to help ideas evolve.
If you're going to see this and say an "evil forum vet is just shooting down your idea," or "You think you're the last word because of your post count," you're wrong. Heck, if you say the second, you've just worried more about my post count than I have in the last four plus years. Tongue-in-cheek comments in here are meant as humor, not put downs.
Searching Effectively
1. Click on "Search" up at the top of the forum.
2. On the left, under "Forum(s) to search," select "Suggestions and ideas."
3. On the right, Keyword Search Terms. This is probably where your problem was if you did search. Try the following, exactly as typed:
+vehicle -"re: "
This will search for anything with the string "vehicle" in the title. The -re: portion of it removes replies, so you'll see the root of every thread that comes up, letting you see just how many threads there are on this. (The last helps for other subjects, as well.)
Be sure to put the space between the colon and last quote.
4. Click the "In subject" radio button. This is a search, not a cute blonde in a bikini. Here, you want to ignore the body.
5. Leave Username Search blank.
6. Date range, Newer Than, change the 1 to a 3, and the time to Months.
7. Result format doesn't matter. Click on "Submit."
The subject at hand: Vehicles.
Vehicles as travel powers. This gets brought up a lot.
Short answer, don't expect it.
Long answer:
There are a lot of problems with the idea.
1. Movement.
Forward and back, even turning - ok. But you can do things that a vehicle can't - such as strafe (direct side to side or angular movement.) It doesn't work with a vehicle. There are also issues such as drift and "realistic" handling. We can go side to side, as mentioned, and make immediate right angle turns. Cars... not so much.
2. Movement, part 2.
Go stand in the road. No, not you personally. Take your character out and stand in the road, if you're heroside. Or even in the path of civilians. What happens? You get pushed. While not as big an issue with a motorcycle, perhaps, a car would have issues. What happens if two cars meet head on - yours and an NPC, or yours and another player's? Do you just pass through each other? Would you be satisfied with that very odd result? Or would you get stuck? How about those NPCs, can they walk and push your car, or are they walking through it? Neither answer is very satisfying, and intelligent, dynamic pathing is too computationally expensive.
3. Terrain.
Not every place has roads, or even makes sense for "off roading." Go look at Founder's Falls. Go look at Crey's Folley. Or Eden. Try to get to the north islands in Talos. What, do you have a kubelwagen? Look at the Pit in Sharkshead. Try to use your travel power (car) to get up to some of the doorways in high caves. Cars and motorcycles would be more like Superspeed - horizontal movement, period. And look - I'll be blunt - flat out *stupid* tied with, say, Combat Jumping or Superjump.
4. Combat.
You get ambushed on the way. How do you fight? Just have your powers blast out of the rolled up windows? How do you buff or debuff? EVERY power would need a new animation. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. Then you want people with motorcycles instead of cars. Redo ALL the animations AGAIN. And they still wouldn't make sense - how do you use Footstomp in a car? Or Stalagmites?
5. Customizing.
Yeah, it would come up. Not everyone would want a sports car, or a mid-70s Buick boat, or an exotic, or a minivan, or whatever else.
6. Making "sense."
This was touched on in terrain - how do you get across water? How about the Shadow Shard? And if you want downright ridiculous looking, go do the heroside 25-34 Respec. Look at the Sky Skiffs inside of rooms or the reactor room. It makes no sense and looks *ridiculous.* Something that, yes, the devs try to avoid.
That's just a quick overview of why vehicles as generally envisioned aren't a spectacular idea for a travel power.
Further discussion
This I think merits a bit of extra commentary, honestly.
"Vehicles" covers a lot of different ground for different people. Some only consider cars/jets/motorcycles vehicles. Others add jetpacks, wings and the like. Much of the above considers cars and similar sized vehicles, with nods to motorcycle type vehicles.
Jetpacks and such, I don't see happening as travel powers. As costume options for Flight? Or as invented pieces that interact with Fly, similar to wings? Absolutely - but they don't need to be a separate travel power for that. I'm all for more jetpack and wing (or combination) designs. Besides, there are so many "temp" jetpacks, I don't see introducing yet another one as really being feasable - just my opinion.
But vehicles - cars, specifically - as a travel power, have issues.
One way to have them "somewhat" work.
For all that, I know some people *would* still like to pull up in front of a mission. So how do we do it?
A temporary power, based on the same tech from the Mac/Valkyrie pack Mission Teleporter. The temporary power would:
(a) be an invention - dropping from enemies. (A reward, because you saved... well, we'll get to that,)
(b) be a single use each time - you can only hold one at a time, not one of each, one total.
(c) use rarely used salvage, because... it's rarely used, and cheap. No Luck Charms here.
(d) come in multiple varieties.
How does this get around the various issues?
Terrain - It doesn't pass terrain. It just arrives.
It follows the same 'rules' as the mission teleporter - it's not indoors, doesn't go to contacts, etc. Just mission doors.
Customizing - It's not "your" vehicle. It's a temp power. You've called a cab, limo, or other transport.
Power animation - since you're skipping the space in between, no powers can be used 'til you arrive anyway.
The varieties?
- Limo: Stereotypical slightly stretched black limo.
- Checker cab: The classic yellow cab.
Quote:I imagine it wouldn't be too much work to implement, given that there are already a bunch of Vehicles meshes already in the game, plus i'm sure you could borrow some of the code from an already existing travel power. Making them customizeable is a whole other story, though.

Quote:There are no VIP's without GR. It's all part of the subscription now. The catch is that players that bought the GR Edition will retain access to Praetoria if they go Prem.So if I understand this right, a VIP has access to Praetoria but a Premium w/o GR does not?
But a VIP w/o GR can't create a Praetorian, correct?
Because otherwise you'd have a problem I think... create a Praetorian, then drop to Premium.
Not sure if that still applies to accounts that buy old copies of GR and try to use the code. I can't test it as I've had GR since it released. -
Quote:That really sucks but as far as CS is concerned once that person got promoted to SL the base and everything in it belonged to him. This was not my base, thankfully, but it did happen to my friend.
Breakdown of story:
Red Star has been offline for longer than designated time.
Troll ended up with Red Star
Troll has kicked 98% of the SG
Troll has deleted the ENTIRE BASE (and it wasn't easy putting this one together either)
Officer who is still in has next to no permissions.
Is there any way to get the base back into more cappable hands through Customer Service or something?
This isn't a small SG either (well, it wasn't) and has a very sizable bank of Prestige that has been worked very hard for.
Any help would be appreciated. -
Quote:Sending a tell is not spamming people with blind invites. People that spam blind invites are [insert profanity here] that don't respect their fellow players enough to bother asking if they want to team.Forbin, have you ever tried to fill out a TF at off hours? It turns out you can rapidly find seven interested parties who were "not seeking" without much trouble on the smallest of servers. Seeking implies action on your part, it says nothing about receptiveness to the concept.
-
Quote:Maybe you need to learn how to readHow is that guy supposed to know that you hate teaming unless he asks? I hope you have yourself set to "decline invites" with a warning in the search comment field because otherwise this level of indignation would look awfully irrational!
I don't have to set my flag to red. The default gray "Not Seeking" is a clear indication I'm not seeking teammates.
The devs were forced to add the red "Do not accept invites" in order to block [pancake]holes that harass people with blind invites. -
Quote:What you mean a side by side comparison of what each type of account gets access to? Like here ...Thank you all for your responses. I guess it breaks down to me being misinformed. I'll give the GR expansion a try and see if I like it (have no choice, can't return it). I do feel a little cheated. I was hoping to not pay for VIP since I play in spurts. I may play for the next few weeks and then get bored and come back in six months or so. I understand the need to "make money" through micro-transactions but there could be more information as to what purchase actually does and does not do on the paragon market. I also understand the push to go VIP otherwise they can't stay in business. I guess I'll go VIP when I am ready for the trials until them I'll explore GR.
Thanks again!
http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/freedom/about-freedom/
Or maybe an FAQ that explains things like here?
http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/freedom/faq/
Or maybe they should list what VIP's get when they subscribe like here.
https://secure.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/St...71&item_id=593
And what exactly is confusing about the description of the product you bought on the Paragon Market?
It clearly states that what you are buying access to is the Alignment System and nothing else. There is absolutely no mention of Incarnate Content and no reason to assume that you would get access to it.
It sounds like you and whomever gave you the misinformation assumed that the old Going Rogue Edition was still in effect after they switched to the new business model.
So while I don't blame you for feeling cheated, if your going to hold someone responsible it should be whomever told you something contrary to everything the company has put out to let you know that you need a VIP sub to access the Incarnate content. -
What's going to stop the butt hurt from getting the name (then later global) of the person that started the "vote to kick" and using it to grief the person afterwards? There are various ways for the vindictive to seek revenge once they know a name, and have access to unlimited accounts.
No, anonymity is best.
"Maybe only team leaders or the league leader can begin votes."
And what should players do when it's the Team Leader they want to get rid of? Just because they have the star doesn't mean they can't be clueless players, or jerks.
I think the best way to handle the situation the OP described is to file a petition and let the GM's review the game logs for the jerk abusing the feature and let them handle the discipline.
