What if we increased the capacity of the Merit vendors?

Merits cannot be traded. Incarante awards cannot be traded.

First, expand the options listed at Reward Merit, A-Merit, Astral Merit and Emp Merit vendors to all recipes and all salvage. Maybe you can add conversions of one type of merit to another. The devs can scale how much each item will sell for.

Next, bind all recipe drops to the account. What the??? You serious?? …hear me out. Base this on the Incarnate system where you can upgrade, downgrade, sidegrade or convert when necessary. In addition you can do the same for enhancements and salvage. The devs can apply the same type of conversion factors where you get diminishing returns but at least you can get exactly what you want. Refer to incarnate conversions for this idea.

Next, increase content that allows you to earn these types of merits. Looks like they're doing that with the new Dark Astoria so that's a definite step in the right direction but really why not open that reward system up to the entire game? This’ll reduce grinding a specific area.

In a smaller scale this model is already in place with the incarnate system. It works and everyone is happy. Take the principles of this model and apply it to the rest of the game.

Sounds like they’re kinda doing this already if you think about it… didn’t I hear something about recipe converters coming in issue 22? In the last couple of months haven’t we already added Astral and Emp Merit vendors that allow you to buy VR stuff and costume pieces? Yep, just keep going on this path and you’ll have access to everything and won’t need to buy 2billion influence with real money to obtain it.
Or is this just crazy talk? :P

If they had done this from the get go things would be different. However they didn't and now they have to give serious thought to how the player base would negatively react to such drastic changes. I garuntee you that there would be a ot of people quitting the game because they perceived the changes as "ripping them off" because they think all the influence they've spent on IO's actually has some intrinsic value.

Heck people even do that with Prestige that's been earned for an SG. They assume it belongs to them and they get quite irate about losing it even tho it belongs to the SG and not them.

Believe what you want. The devs aren't afraid of the big bad solo SG boogeyman. Posi isn't losing any sleep because there might be a solo SG hiding under his bed and it might get him if his night light goes out.

Have a building that is tall in all the major zones that you enter and are taken to you Lair. Safe secure and nobody can bother you or enter unless you allow it and should not take up much in computer space but I could be wrong. This is just a thought. Thanks!
Lair entrances have been another aspect that has been bandied back and forth many times over the years. If it ever does happen tho it will be most likely a similar entrance to the one we have for bases with access in every zone because it's much easier than coding custom entrances. Everyone is going to have different ideas for each of their characters.

And I believe that this result rubs the devs the wrong way and fuels their fear of too many solo SGs comprised of just one player and multiple alts. That, in turn, is hurting the implementation of the feature. I'll stick by what I said before.

Time to eliminate the silliness and go with a straight offline SG invite system of inviting yourself or whomever you like.

Please feel free to believe whatever you want. It isn't going to change the actual facts. The devs aren't afraid of Solo SG's. If they were it would have been ridiculously easy for them to simply code it so we could only have one character per account in an SG.

No they always intended to let us have multiple characters in our SG's, but they also intended for SG's to be group oriented content.

So yea my Colonel Confederate would love to ride around on a Confederate Hellcat ,but it isn't gonna happen unless they stick this game on a console system like how DC Online is. Haven't played it because no system. With how they went Free to Play. It's surprising that they don't consider sticking this on a Playstation, Xbox or Nintendo and have us VIP's pay for special content and privileges. Like a Need For Speed Underground styled content for racing each others vehicles, or see who runs faster, or flys faster through an obstacle course.

Potential is there for vehicles ,but not on the PC system I don't think.
And we're back to the Standard Code Rant.

My sarcasm meter must be broken cuz I can't tell if he's joking or serious when he says he thinks the reason we don't have vehicles is because the game wasn't made for console systems.

No it isn't, since the devs have gone on record saying that if they were to add such a feature they would specifically block us from being able to send invites to our own characters.

There's a world of difference between them saying "If we do this you won't be able to do "x"."

and, "We aren't going to do this because we don't want you to do "x"."

By the way, can someone please tell me how long ago was that cut-and-paste excerpt that everyone keeps referring to originally posted on these forums?
Bill's had that for many many years, and he's updated it several times to keep it current. (I think the first time I saw it was back in 2005) The original post has been long lost in the history of forum purges and migration to the new boards.

The reason it has stood the test of time is it sticks to the core issues that need to be resolved in order for vehicles to work.

Oh and the reason I keep harping on the differences between regular travel powers and Vanity is because there are a lot of other people that would prefer to use their powers like a regular travel power.

The problems with a motorcycle is that it's a ground vehicle and have been explained in Memphis Bills cut and paste.

If they do it like Rocket Board then you will have no access to any other powers while the bike is active, and you won't be able to attack or defend yourself from 99% of the NPC's in the game.

Then there's the movement issues. Motorcycles can't move sideways or strafe like characters can.

Let's not forget terrain. It would look stupid to see a motorcycle swimming.

Now the possibility does exist for hover vehicles/bikes as vanity travel powers. They can strafe and move sideways, they can ignore terrain, and they can simply fly above NPC's if like Rocket Board all other powers are locked when it's being used.

And most importantly if done as a vanity power they wouldn't have to rewrite every single power in the game to work from a sitting position in a vehicle.

One does not need to ascribe arrogance or stupidity or even greed to Positron to understand why emailed SG invites would be extremely low on his priority list. They have thousands of other things on their to-do list that will draw in a lot more customers than solo SGs will, and we can already do it ourselves with a minimum of effort and expense.

The company is not particularly greedy for having us use this option because once set up this way, you'll be able to invite alts to your base without ever paying another dime, which is much better than the old way of having to pay a monthly fee. Second accounts can be useful for other purposes, as well.

Think of it as the price you pay for consuming more resources than other players do.
You are forgetting that prior to Issue 12 (May 6th, 2008) when the devs were forced to implement draconian restrictions on Trial accounts to combat RMT abuse, it didn't cost us a dime to create a second trial account to use to invite alts into our solo SG's, and we had that ability for years.

Hell back when they doubled the SG membership and held the Prestige Giveaway they encouraged players to make as many trial accounts as possible so we could pad our SG Rosters up to 150 with fillers and get the maximum amount of prestige possible for our SG's/bases.

So no it was never about making extra money off of the players.

No it isn't. This game went for years without any RMT interference. It was only the addition of IO's that brought them around in large numbers. If the devs had made the IO's "soulbound" from the start (like the ones that sell in the Paragon Market) the RMTers wouldn't have anything to sell except their PL services.

I wouldn't object to a bonus being added to the earning of the level 50 badge, but I don't know if the devs would go as high as the 5%/2.5% you suggest.

The abuse and torture of political prisoners is the crime. In China they force the prisoners to work 8-10 hours at hard labor then another 10-12 hours providing RMT services, and if a prisoner doesn't make his or her quota they get beaten by the guards.

Maybe the solution to this is to embrace it. Make all the items from the market purchasable with cash in the in-game store. At least then the money is going into the pockets of NCSoft, which could help raise funds for greater improvements to the game. Plus, if they were going to pursue legal action, this would strengthen their argument. If the spammers are circumventing their ability to sell their own product, there are punitive damages to compensate for. Since influence and power leveling are not for sale by NCSoft, they aren't losing money as a result of the sale.

No, that isn't a solution and would be harmful to both the game and the players.

That's an even worse justification for this idea than any of the others given. VIP status has absolutely no bearing on whether or not a character can get to level 50.

The simple fact that the devs let you play at all when you don't have a subscription is reward enough.

You aren't going to see anything but variations of the Rocket Board for the forseeable because, that's what players were asking for and what the devs have implied they are working on when they specifically asked players what variations of Rocket Board they wanted to see next.

Now it is possible we might see the addition of jet packs either as travel powers or new costume pieces because they don't interfere with how powers work.

Personally I'd prefer them as costume pieces than actual powers because it allows us much more freedom when designing costumes. Rocket Boots animate when Fly is activated so the same thing can be done with jet packs.

I do agree with you about it shouldn't have to be a paid option.

You do realize that that is how all games work, right? The devs in every game make decisions based on how "THEY" want the game to work, then they look at player input and add things the players want as long as it doesn't conflict with how they want the game they developed to work.

We are lucky to have devs as lenient as they are. I've played in MMO's where players are required, REQUIRED to recruit other players before they can even form an SG/Guild/Fleet. Those other games cram forced socialization down your throat and you don't get half the cool stuff we get access to when we create our SG's.

Still hoping the devs will change their minds on this tho.

Perhaps you are thinking of a Preem account.
A Preem account is one that has already put money into the game (but is not currently "subbed"). As such, their subsequent purchases would need to be $15 to get the extra Reward Token.

Since the suggestion was to create a NEW Free account and use it just for the purpose of SG invites... The financial cost of doing this should only be $5.

    .
Didn't work that way for my free account. I bought the VIP kit the last time it went on sale for $1.99 and applied it to one of my free accounts. I got 1 token for buying something from the store and when my 30 days ended I got a second token for the account being active for 1 month.

The only reason I got the second token was because the account was VIP for 1 month.
