Yeah but can you imagine the rage posts from people that would be complaining that the filter is bugged because they're getting "less drops" when they use the filter?

Exactly. Which is why it carries no more weight than "SG is calling." It only carries weight amongst the people that know you. In a pug it's just one of many convenient and plausible excuses.

    Loot Filter?

I could see the devs adding a filter, but it probably wouldn't work the way the OP wants it to. Our devs have a sense of humor so the filter would just auto delete the drops the player doesn't want. It wouldn't replace what was being deleted with something else that wasn't being screened.

Only if the person using it is actually married. It's ridiculously easy to make up RL reasons to justify quitting a team. Just like it's easy to fake DCing and going to team with friends on another server.

And remember even if you get away with the name for a while all it takes is one person to report it and get it genericed. Just because it wasn't genericed sooner doesn't mean you have an argument to keep it.

A free account already has to depend on non-free players in order to team with anyone; that would only be compounded by giving those other players a means to go down a list saying, "no, no, no, no -- oh, there's a VIP! -- no, no, no...."

You're not going to turn free players into paying players by encouraging the the already-paying players to exclude and ostracize them.
I respectfully disagree. While some players will undoubtedly make the worst assumptions many more of us will use that as a tool to spot people that can't respond to us in most chat channels and as a flag to know who may be unfamiliar with game mechanics and require help learning how things work.

The great players far outnumber the jerks and most of the isolationists pretty much moved themselves to Exalted where they can't offend Freems and Prems.

    SG is calling!

Only time I flat out walked away from a TF I was recruited to was when we had three leeches that logged off after the first mission. The leader and two other players (all in the same SG) defended them and refused to kick them. Then I got a Mistell that revealed the "missing players" were alt accounts owned by the leader and his two cronies.

I PM'd the one other player and we quit. The other guy told me they started sending him nasty tells and I explained how he could /ignore them.

    1. IP addresses get faked by legitimate internet providers for valid security reasons.

    2. So screw the legitimate customers in the banned IP area? Yeah that won't drive away customers by the thousands.

You also used to be able to put them into base storage and pass them along that way. One of the recent changes to bases broke something, so they blocked you from putting combined Hami-Os in the bins.

The new auto-sorting of bins adds an extra "feature" to combined Hami-Os: If you have two Hami-Os in the same bin that are identical, except for a + or ++ on one of them (I have a Synthetic Nucleus 50 and a Synthetic Nucleus 50+ in my bin), the system can't decide which should come first, and rapidly swaps their positions. Rather amusing to watch. ;P
Thank you for that information. I was unaware Hami's were having those issues. The few times I went on Hami raids I sold or gave away my drops to people that actually used them. My dislike of big raids was stronger than my desire for HO's. The same feeling keeps me away from Incarnate content.

How wrong you are. Not only did Exalted give VIP's 12 additional character slots it gave tens of thousands of customers the chance to get character names they always wanted but were snagged by other players over the past 8 years. It also gave VIP's a server that's been almost free of RMT abuse.

And for the small portion of the player base that wants to isolate themselves from Free and Premium players, Exalted gives them a home where they can enjoy the game without offending any non subscribers with their isolationist point of view.

This set up is no different than what we have set up for PvP. Players that enjoy PvP go to PvP zones where they can bash each other to their hearts content, while the players that want nothing to do with PvP never enter the PvP zones. The only unhappy people are the obnoxious jerks that like harassing non PvPers in open world settings.

Exalted gives us the same thing. The isolationists are happy that everyone they meet are subscribers, and the non subscribers are happy because they don't have to put up with the isolationists.

The only people that are unhappy with this situation are the obnoxious jerks that are upset because they can't force people to socialize and conform to their preferred playstyle.
  11. Don't see how this is a 6 year old problem. I never heard of people trading ++ TO's, DO's, or SO's. Combined Hami's have never been trade-able so you can't lose the bonus, and IO's were never boostable until after Freedom launched.

Not against the suggestion just saying this is the first I've heard of it being a problem.

I don't have any transfer tokens at the moment, and like Rodion, I don't feel like wasting money to test this, but if it now works as one would expect (ie, you can move a locked character as long as you have an unlocked slot on the destination server), that's a good thing, and I'm glad that they changed or fixed it, as the case may be.
Okay I see what the confusion was. If a player that drops to Premium uses his unlocks to get access to characters on other servers he will have to buy more unlocks to open empty slots before he can transfer any characters off of Exalted.

However players can use those unlocks to open empty slots as long as they are one of the original 12 per server, or one that they earned/bought. They can then transfer characters off of Exalted into those unlocked empty slots.
  13. In answer to your third paragraph, yes that's the "reputation" I got in trouble for using because "blank" violates forum rules.

Because this game has never made a big deal about it. Until Freedom launched trial account chat channel restrictions were effective enough to pretty much muzzle RMTers.

I mean, barring extraordinary circumstances, isn't at least giving some warning or waiting until a convenient stopping point before bowing out just... common courtesy? (And if not, shouldn't it be?)
And that's why people who are polite use phrases like "SG is calling!" before quitting. They are choosing to politely give an excuse as to why they are quitting rather than just walking away without a word (which is something I see happen quite often when pugging), or actually saying something rude and dropping.

"SG is calling" is a plausible excuse (As long as the character is actually a member of an SG) as is something along the lines of "wife aggro". It doesn't automatically mean "hey, I know I said I'd help you take care of this, but someone I like better is here, so screw you, I'm leaving right now," unless the character isn't a member of an SG which is plain to see if he's lying or not because SG membership is right under the characters name.

Now I admit I have my doubts about a players sincerity when I see someone use a phrase like, "Gotta go cat's on fire again!"

Another reason people will use that phrase or ones similar to them is because they are online early for a regularly scheduled event and they can easily lose track of time because we don't have an in game clock to look at, and they only realize how late it's gotten when they see people gathering in their chat channels for the event and they have to leave quickly so they don't miss the event.

    Tanker Tuesdays for example.

But we can sit here and trade examples of exceptions to the rule to our individual perspectives all night. So can we agree that sometimes people are being rude when they use it, and sometimes they aren't?

Yeah. the group in question was from yet another space MMO that prides itself on open world sandbox PvP, and they were all members of the same faction in that other game.

EVEntually most of them either got themselves banned or tired of the game they were harassing and went back to their original game.

As to the appearance of the set. Most of it leaves me feeling Meh, but there are about a half dozen individual pieces that are outstanding so I don't regret unlocking the set.

Simple. There is another MMO where they had Tribbles with a group of players that made a game of singling out someone and petitioning him or her until they got them silenced. As I recall the offending group called it chat channel PvP. The group had enough members in their fleets that they could hit the required number of petitions necessary to auto-silence people.

It quickly got so bad that GM's had to step in and start banning people in the offending group.

Yes they have been able to reply to tells using the / command but I heard it wasn't intended for them to be able to do it so it's possible the devs have fixed what they see as a bug.
  21. Which refutes what Roderick is saying.

Edit: Which is that VIP's that drop to Premiums have to unlock a slot on Exalted before transferring a character off of that server.

Did accepting your help in accomplishing that task, force them the deny the opportunity to help to other people who were offering ("Sorry, full")? Is going to hang out with your friend sort of leaving them in the lurch?
If you're really just "hanging out" with these random people, sure, go hang out with your friend instead. But if you stopped and offered your services and tools to help them change their flat tire, leaving with no warning and taking your jack and tire iron with you because a friend called and said, "hey, I need you to give me a ride somewhere" instead of telling your friend, "I'm in the middle of something, it'll have to wait until I'm done" (something I'd hope the friend would understand) is pretty inconsiderate*.
That's why I think the general consensus here seems to be that leaving in mid-mission with no warning because "SG is calling" is either an excuse or just rude, and leaving with plenty of warning or in-between missions is perfectly acceptable for any reason, SG-related or not.

*And yes, I'm aware that in real life, some things are going to be more important than helping a stranger change a tire. If your friend calls and says he needs a ride to the hospital, or, I don't know, needs bail money, then by all means, go help your friend.
Unless it's a life and death situation friends and family will always take precedent over strangers. (Well most family, there's always that one family member you wouldn't lift a finger to help.)

Being a good samaritan and helping someone change a tire is an exception that falls under the category of life and death situations. Quitting a team in a video game does not. Let's not lose our perspective here, this is a game.

My two biggest guesses are for PVP purposes and as a habit of players new to CoX that inherited this mindset from previous games.
It's an point of view held by meta/power gamers that don't play games for the storyline. They just want to get the most powerful characters they can as fast as possible.

The exact same mentality is being expressed in that new MMO in a galaxy far far away. The game has been out less than a month the the Meta/Power gamers are already complaining that there isn't anything to do now that they hit the level cap. They complain that too much development went into the storyline and they feel cheated.

Of course they are completely ignoring the fact that everything that game has advertised has been about how they put all their effort into developing the storyline and voice acting.

The Meta/Power gamers knew exactly what they were buying when they got the game.

    /this.

Also who decides what description gets used? Many people would say Freedom has a less than stellar reputation while others would say that the bad rep isn't indicative of the entire population.

And another server had an unofficial nickname that is now against forum rules to use. I know as I've been modded for using it.

I was providing that information so that the OP knew that they can't wait until after their sub lapses - Which Agge's post implied they could (whether she meant it to or not).
If you are a VIP you will have 12 slots per server (180 free slots) automatically. That is more than enough to move characters off of Exalted. All you have to pay for is the number of transfers you need over the amount VIP's get for free each month.

The only time a VIP would have to buy more slots is if they want to put characters on a server that already has 12 slots filled, and every VIP has known for years that they have to buy extra slots if they already used the 12 per server they get for subscribing.

The OP has been playing the game long enough to know that already.

The OP has also been playing long enough to know that when a VIP drops to Premium the number of available character slots drops drastically and any character shuffling needs to be done before the sub expires. That information has been discussed both in the game and on the forums since July of last year. It has also been posted clearly on the side by side comparison on the main website comparing what each type of account gets.
