So, middle of the night on a Sunday into Monday... figure they will take the servers off line until... Tuesday! Just in time for the scheduled downtime...
-
I think it's spreading, tried to log onto the VIP server, and it worked, then tried Infinity and stayed in the retrieving screen for a while, then disconnected.
-
So glad they have done all this work on server stability recently...

Quote:And they'll implement that... and then all consumable type items will become one purchase only because they won't bother to differentiate in their coding...That's good it wont let you buy it twice, but they need to change the menus, or make them go from red to green, or be able to filter out "things iv bought" or something.
Sorry for the early morning snark, just a tad fed up with the powers that be and their sub par delivery at the moment. -
Quote:And bear in mind the idea behind MARTy still lets you play however you see fit; you just won't get as many rewards as you would otherwise.
This? This's just a slight reduction in rewards.
I have seen some over the top Dev Defending before, but those statements have to among the more ridiculous ones I've seen.
Preventing exploits is fine, preventing players from receiving rewards for playing within the allowable game settings is not. And there is never an excuse for a broken system that has the effect or potential effect of this one. Especially when it was not a required upgrade or fix, but instead a "big brother" attempt. -
Still getting hit by this, and it is always annoying, especially in "hazard zones" that are fully blacked out if not explored.
Just get rid of the fog of war in zone maps, Devs... I mean, in a game set in a day and age where the character could just download a map on their phone, it's not like we need "hidden and mysterious" neighborhoods and cityscapes. -
There is no excuse for them implementing the market system full of unlockable content, and failing to have it track and display what you already have. It makes picking things out annoying to say the least.
-
I may use the new server to test some builds and save a name or two just in case, but otherwise I am sticking to Virtue unless my friends make a mass exodus.

Quote:Tried that and got the "unable to load, no access to XXX YYY" message that you get if you try to load a saved costume onto a character missing an unlocked part.I hope they add it as well. Petition away, I say. I'd sign it in a heartbeat.
But there is one thing I just thought of. For those of you who have the Ascension armor, have you tried using the "Load Self" button and tried making an NPC with the pieces that way? I was thinking I could model my 5th costume to look like the villain I had in mind after I get the armor and simply "Load self" and save as a new NPC. -
Yeah, emergency maintenance sucks but, if you give an ETA and fail to meet it you should at least post an update of some kind, especially when it is nearly 2 hours past the original estimate. Failure to keep customers updated gives the impression of either a lack of knowledge or a lack of concern, both of which can justifiably lead to frustration and could be easily avoided.

I agree, I was making a story arc and picked up one of the new auras specifically because I thought it would look great for the concept of the enemy group, but no luck.
I do wish they would open up to us for use either through tickets or if they are unlocked on our account... perhaps have an AE redeem like the individual characters have? I dunno. -
DM/Regen was my first 50 and she is still my main and favorite overall character. Probably not the most ideal/efficient combination out there, but I love it and have since I first played it.
Now with the full T4 Incarnates across the board on top of the ever evolving and tweaking of IO sets/builds, she is even more fun to play. -
Yeah, having similar issues with massive slowdowns, lag and map issues(crash on loading, booted from missions, etc).
-
OK, my two cents on the topic...
- Fights in the D...
While lore says it is suppressed, it is pretty vague and the arena is in there with a map that encompasses the whole section of the D... so, I take it as more of a consent thing. As long as it isn't foisted upon me or isn't too obtrusive/ridiculous, I tend to look the other way. - "I don't take level into account"
To me level has no bearing what so ever to RP interaction. Until a conflict arises. Characters don't have an actual sign over their heads with name, level, AT, SG, etc, so it should not have any place on how two people talk to one another. However, should someone decide to push things into the realm of direct conflict, then yes Level needs to be considered. - "I have powers that don't exist in the game"
Totally case by case. If the powers are simply things that add depth or cover aspects of the game not covered or limited by practical game mechanics(such as speed caps on travel powers), then I have no problem with it. Or if players have or describe their powers in different ways to add flavor or concept, again, that's fine as those are not things that tend to lend to godmoding/metagaming.
Now, when people start having a host of powers above and beyond their AT/level to the point of being ridiculous or start getting in to the "I am a god and can alter the very fabric of reality on a whim!", I just walk away as that person is probably less interested in being part of a scene, than in dictating one. - "I'm immune to all Psychics" and "I can see through stealth"
This one is always hazy as there are game mechanics that can answer some of these questions/scenarios. Generally I look at it situationaly, taking environment, nature, actual game abilities, concept and the like into account. Especially in terms of stealth and the like.
As for the immunity to "All Psychics", I just say a resounding "whatever". I understand the rationale behind that, but I also find it ridiculous when the character in question actually has absolutely no such defenses/resistances, because it cheapens someone else's abilities in favor of yours. I actually apply that to anyone who says they are "immune" to anything because no one is... highly resistant, sure, immune? No. People just need to exercise a little common sense, and common courtesy in cases like this.

Quote:Meh, not really when the Server Status page starts with this:LOL So I just checked the official website and the server status is CORRECTLY reflecting that the servers are down. Now I have to take my foot out of my mouth.
Quote:Server Maintenance Times
The regular server maintenance will take place once a week on THURSDAY FROM 4:00 A.M. PACIFIC / 7:00 AM EASTERN / 12:00 P.M. BRITISH / 13:00 CENTRAL EUROPEAN TO 6:00 AM PACIFIC / 9:00 AM EASTERN / 2:00 P.M. BRITISH / 15:00 CENTRAL EUROPEAN.
Obviously it's not a world breaking issue by any stretch, but they could do a lot better in having proper, up to date announcements. -
Well, that is kinda crappy. I think if someone is the dedicated base builder, they should be consulted first before anything is changed, just as a courtesy if nothing else, but more because if they were half done with something, what was added might interfere with something they were working on.
That said, if this happened on Virtue the other morning, it sounds very much like I may be the guilty party involved in the added base editing. :P I was chatting with someone in the D and they offered to show me their base, a small set up that sounds a lot like what you described, and I told him I could show him an idea for a dance floor design... didn't know that someone else was the base designer :P But it was just being shown as an example so he could tear it up quickly if he didn't like it, it didn't interfere with anything already in place. He did tell me after the fact that the person who designed the base was annoyed and didn't want to come see it, so we took it up. Anyway, sounds way too similar, so if it was the same base, my apologies. Certainly didn't mean to step on any toes, was just going with the information I had.

Have had this happen a lot with Shield Charge on my SD/SS tanker, seems to happen more often in rooms that have rounded "baseboard" floor to wall joinings like caves and the new praetorian lab maps. And occasionally while swarmed with enemies, though I have gotten so used to it happening that I kind of use it as a chance to recover some endurance these days :P

Quote:If you are worried about the person behind the keyboard, and not the character on the screen, it's not RP anymore. Now if you mean the character suddenly has something they are not supposed to, well...
6 Adult RP ... The naughty bits If the rpers is a guy and the other rper really is a girl or guy to guy or girl to girl i think its great! but when the other rper turns out not to be what you thought its just plain ebil
I prefer a generally light/immersive style of RP, stay in character, but not everything has to be some big dramatic hullaballoo.
I really dislike most scripted RP as it usually is just a vehicle for someone's Mary Sue ego. -
Well, in cases like this I like to remember that there are 3 sides to every story; His side, her side and then the truth somewhere in between. Yes some people act like jerks and get carried away on missions/TFs/trials, it happens, make a note of them and avoid them in the future. But when I see "so and so said mean/bad things" I often wonder because I have seen so many people that are so over sensitive about everything that a simple critique or direction is interpreted as an "attack"... same with the "responded as a mature adult", the translation for that is many times "I climbed onto my moral high horse" which can be just as bad or worse than what started the situation.
Just my 2 cents worth.
As for the RP exclusionary situation, well like Rev and Brand said, sometimes you have a character that just doesn't fit in or doesn't inspire people to approach you. You might have the coolest concept ever, but if it is Darkity McDark the Dark One who's bio reads about how sinister and menacing he is, chances are it is not going to inspire people to come talk to you. Same with the painfully shy and the "stutterers", if you make it too difficult for people to actively interact with you, guess what?, they won't. -
Quote:Thanks for keeping us updated Zwill, and hopefully this means some of the important criticism is getting taken to heart and at least considered for viability and not just ignored with a "we are looking at it, so buy the pack anyway and maybe things will change".Thanks for all of the compliments and kind words.
We've made a compilation of the feedback you have all provided and are in the process of reviewing it with the art production team. While any changes or updates we make won't be present at launch, we will implement them as soon as it's possible to do so, much like we did with the Animal Pack.

Quote:Well said Sam.No offence, Sir, but no matter how you phrase is, insisting that you should have what you want when we can both have what we want because you say so is not trying to be polite. It doesn't matter how polite you're trying to be when you are essentially telling me to go to hell. Instead of being "polite," you should have chosen to bring forth a meaningful argument for why customizable colours is a bad idea, instead of reaching for the old "agree to disagree" cop out.
This is not a matter of opinion. This is a matter of simple fact. You like the existing colours, so you would get to have what you want whether or not they are customizable. If they aren't, you got the colour you wanted. If they are, you can pick the colour you wanted. The only possible outcome you can be aiming for with the argument that it's better to not have customizability is to keep ME from getting the colour I want to use which is different from the colour you feel I should be using. That is not polite. That is petty, thoughtless and irresponsible, no matter how passive-aggressive you try to make it sound.
If you don't care about customization, then fine. Say so. Explain that you accept the pack for what it is. But once you start arguing against me having what I want, then you had better damn well have an argument that I can respect, or you are not being polite. You are being condescending.
Anything that limits or stifles creative options is a bad thing, and using some excuse about fictional purity is just asinine. When the options are "Have it one way and one way only" or "Have it all ways, including that one way", the choice is clear unless you are too selfish and self absorbed to consider the value of others choices.
What amazes me is when they produce packs like this with some fantastic art and options but then give a seemingly half hearted effort in implementation. Much like not adding certain items/patterns to obvious part selections, or making an effort at color/texture matching. Hopefully by being critical of these decisions during the test phase, instead of just accepting it or blowing smoke and claiming everything is sunshine and roses, things will be changed so that they expand the appeal instead of limiting it. -
Quote:What is silly is trying to force an opinion or definition on a genre as the most common way is the only way. What is more silly is to put such limits on a purchasable item and then adopting the cavalier attitude of "then don't use it".then don't use the steampunk pack for that character. Same as i wouldn't use the animal head pack if i was making a human character. I'm just saying steampunk is a very definable look, for it to be a steampunk pack it has to look steampunky, to then change it to look like something else, it stops being a steampunk pack. I'm the last person to argue against using costume pieces in every different way, shape or form, but to moan that a steampunk pack is disappointing because it's all steampunky seems a little silly.
One of the strong points of CoX is the customization or the individual characters, and adding parts and then limiting how they can be customized in terms of matching existing parts is foolish and shortsighted in it's stifling of potential creativity. If someone wants to be able to make a classic "steampunk" look in browns and brass, they can color it to do so, but if someone wants to make a technicolor neon steam powered cybernetic mutant cow man, then they should be able to do so as well. Limitation based on an idealized notion of what a genre "should be" is a bad thing.
