  1. Heya all,

Trying to come up with a corruptor to use in PvP, mostly zone and occasional arena duels, nothing organized because my schedule is just too erratic to get involved in it

I have messed around with my Energy/Pain corr, and while fun, she is a bit meh... much better for the PvE aspect of the game she was originally built for.

Anyway, I was considering some combos and am debating either Rad/Cold=Sonic/Cold or Rad/Term=Sonic/Therm. Problem is I have no idea how these perform in PvP or if they are combos with decent synergy... save for having been on the receiving end of the debuffs a time or ten.

Any advice, suggestions, words of wisdom, etc would be much appreciated. Or if there is some other fantabulous combo that I have not thought of... I know Fire/* has great damage, but I already have a few Fire Corrs for PvE and I wanted to try something different.

    Also, was planning on a pretty straitforward Fitness/Speed/Leaping/Leadership/Mako with a */Cold, or a Fitness/Speed/Leaping/Stealth/Scorpion with a*/Thermal.

    HALP!

    Thanks,
    Fomsie.

PS: And no, Dahjee, I don't want to play a Sonic/Traps or whatever.

What is it that makes an MMO a different social space than the real world? Why do normal standards not apply (or different standards apply, if you prefer to phrase it that way)?

In the real world, asking for something that hasn't been offered can be seen to be pretty rude. You can ask your grandmother for a cookie and have a fair chance of getting one, but asking a stranger would get you a weird look or worse.

In the MMO world, much of it is a public space shared by all. However, there do exist private spaces within the MMO world, private being defined as 'only able to be entered by an owner, member, or someone who has been invited.' In our MMO, spaces with varying degrees of privacy can be found in instances, arena matches, supergroup bases, global channels and teams. You can enter your own private spaces (for instance, by taking a mission) or create a space that has you and a few other people (for instance, making a global channel or team.) Just because you are in such a private space, however, does not insulate you from those outside the space; you can be sent a tell or email and receive it inside that private space.

Likewise, such private spaces exist in the real world, and communication can be sent into those private spaces, by cell phones, land lines, knocking on the door, et cetera. Most of the time, sending communications to those private spaces without knowing the people inside is considered to be rude, unless you have some sort of specific business with them. (No one I know likes getting a phone call or a knock on the door from some sort of salesperson, especially when you're otherwise occupied.)

Now, as a mitigating factor, the MMO space has a lowered threshold of social interaction for strangers. Everyone who is playing has, presumably, at least some interest in the subject matter, and everyone is paying $15 a month for the chance to play the game and interact with others who are also interested in playing the game. This, incidentally, is why it is not rude to send a tell when you are recruiting for a team to people that show up on /search solo. You can presume that everyone who is playing the game is at least marginally interested in gaining experience, influence, etc. This is a social norm for the MMO.

My position is that the lowered threshold is what allows PUGs to form. A gathering of people who want to play the game, just for fun or to accomplish a specific goal (task force, raid, etc.) I do not view that lowered threshold of interaction as extending to asking for entry into a private space when it is not offered.
OK, instead of looking at an MMO as being akin to hanging out in your house or going to a movie with friends, think of it more like playing a game of basketball on a public court or a game of pool in a bar. It is perfectly acceptable for someone to ask in to said game, ask if there is room for another, ask for next game, etc.

As long as you do so politely, there is no breach of etiquette in doing so.

Then of course, you have the option of declining. Though just ignoring them or giving a rude response makes you the one showing a lack of manners.

  4. I had no idea what "Fiteklubbing" was until I was challeneged to a random duel one night in the D... I got yelled at because I actually, you know, moved around to maximize my survival and attacks.

Then I got lectured for about half an hour in tells about how my build sucked and how I should improve it... and how ungrateful I was for not taking said advice... even though I won the fight.
  5. My "main" is a DM/Regen scrapper... I can't say enough how much I love DM. Yeah, it is weak in AOE, but against single "hard" targets? It is just fantastic.

Conversely, I have a MA/WP scrapper at 50 as well... and I just find it... lacking.
  6. Well, going to the PvP forums and asking a question and taking the advice instead of shooting it down would be your best bet.

Most of what has been said here is valid though.

Psi/EM blasters are pretty fool proof.

/Regen scrappers for melee (I got my DM/Regen to a 400 rating fairly quickly in RV)

Tankers... just have a defense set that makes you a huge bag of health. And taunt.

    Always move. Always.

Make sure that your character has some form of perception power. Either from the AT or leadership or an APP. And if you can, put the +perception IO in it as well. That will help with the stalkers a bit.

I have not PvPed with Defenders or Controllers, but having faced both and Corruptors, I have found that some of the debuffs in /Thermal and /Rad that kill endurance/recovery can be huge.

Also make sure you slot a lot of KB protection, because otherwise you may spend a lot of time on your rump... getting killed.

These are often the "Power Level" service groups. I see them from time to time wandering around on Virtue, mostly in the AE building. There are usually 6 or 7 of them moving in sync due to multi boxing, and one or two "normal characters" being pulled along for the ride.

Duh! Totally didn't think of the Stealth IO as a proc :P That makes sense :P

And yeah, forgot that the PvP sets exemp down too... mostly because they are so silly rare/expensive that I don't even look at them anymore

    Booster Packs

I think a "Vet Rewards" booster pack would be a great idea... especially financially. It would require no new work, just bundling the options into a download, and generate revenue for the company. It would almost be like printing free money. And how many people do you think would shell out say $10 for such a pack? Between newer players and new/alternate accounts? I would assume quite a few, and for something that would have negligible overhead cost, it would seem to make great business sense.

    Globals

Also, pretty sure that Purple IO sets still apply their bonuses even when Exemplared down. I know that when examined on my scrapper while running the new Posi TF, under the powers tab, it still listed all of the "Ultimate such and such" bonuses, even while I was functionally level 16. All of the other abilities/set bonuses from non purple sets were gone, however.

Also, the +Stealth Celerity Unique in sprint, that is in my case a level 50 IO, did still seem to work even while exemplared down. (I got the transluscent form when I turned on sprint, and I did seem to have the standard amount of stealth that it grants).
  11. Don't have a graphic of it but... actual doors for doorway rooms. Or at least the ability to decorate them so they are not just big, obnoxious voids.
  12. Also don't forget the +recovery bonus in MoG. Not usually an issue with a /regen, but very helpful if you have been sapped/drained etc. Also tremendously helpful in PvP.

You're basically telling people to just take your word for it that they did indeed say no. Like the fact that you yourself have said it multiple times somehow makes it more true.

Would work MUCH better if you linked to posts FROM the devs saying no, instead of linking to posts where you say they said no.
You have to realize by now that Je Saist believes that whatever he/she says is the be all/end all of a discussion. Not a surprise that they would quote themself.

Well, at least it used to be pretty easy, I haven't bothered to find out how hard Diminished Returns smacks stacked stealth powers.
So, basically, in terms of PvP, you have no idea what you are talking about, but just decided to post anyway? Yeah?

Unless you are working on PvP stealth, in which case you want all that you can get if you are trying to cap.
  17. I wouldn't mind seeing this if it were within the AT ONLY and available once ONLY. This way at least Tanks would still be tanks and so forth. The really big problem I can see would be the enhancements, each power set has it's own slotting, and what would happen when say a person goes from a defense set to a resist set and can't slot all of those IOs?
  18. Yeah, you have to do a couple of missions to get the badge.

I disagree... while actual physical activities are important, I think that PvP in an MMO is a GOOD thing for kids today(minus the smack talk and other nonsense) because unlike a lot of activities today, there is no "everyone is special and everyone wins". They get to play and lose and learn from that... that is a healthy thing as well.

  23. My first hero character and I didn't know about the trams...

In Atlas and get a mission to talk to someone in Galaxy city, no direct zone connector, so I thought I had to use the sewers. Ran/corpse dragged my level 6 scrapper all the way from Atlas to Galaxy. Talking to my friend about it later, he asked me "Why didn't you just take the train?"

    D'oh!

  25. Well, whatever the extended maintenance did today they didn't fix the observer bot.
