Us RPers, as if that's the only thing we do ..... -
Once upon a Positron there was a bug. It's purple Mankey liked saving walruses deaths. Until a green shoe fell off a pretty cloud of root beer fluff cleaving off seven little toes while chewing Bubblegum. After seeing the drunk Pinnacle-ite puke chunky bits of magnets, it stumbled into a garbage carafe. Feeling pretty depressed, it died a Lonely death.
Elsewhere, there were some hungry hippos dancing on me for every time one slurps from the fountain of Wayne. In the early dawn, sirens wailed under a pale little moon made of nothing. People thought they saw Ghost Widow munching on Doritos with Valerie. But it wasn't Doritos, it was a magical corncob that sexy Jay designed with care.
This time, she wanted 12 umpa-loompas and 5 slimy Pterodactyls with Listerine. Suddenly the wizard Spanksalot grumbled with great big annoyance. Dirty scoundrels sacked small vermin left by evil midgets wearing pink Fedoras and speedos. However, Elvis wasn't having cheesecake; he stopped to adjust Stacy's corset that had melted rubber down its frog but sadly, he died.
Cheney shot the lawyer in the buttocks with spitballs made of recycled garbage with asparagus. After blowing the mayor, he loaded up 12 hundred bucks obtained illegally so he licked garbage which Statesman tossed overseas. I then drank sour kiwi Rum. Drunken Avenger then sang Imagine. Afterward, Lily Tomlin beheaded the Tele-tubby while it sat eating pickled beets.
Next, Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockheart, Vincent Valentine and Yuffie Kisaragi took Aeris Gainsborough out cold.

What is the difference to you of trolling in comparison to making a suggestion.

If this is a suggestion, it belongs in the S&I forum ....
If this is trolling, it belongs in the City Life forum .... I would never call you a troll, because it's against the forum rules, but .....
Ask someone to move your post if it's a suggestion. -
That's funny ... I'm pretty sure under 6 hours would have been hit by the ban hammer. That's just a guess though.

I know that some of you can still act like you are blind to the fact that exploiting the MA obviously what is being done. There will be a stop put to it.
Is it really worth getting your account banned, suspended, characters deleted, etc.?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes they will put a stop to it, but it's not the ban hammer that's going to be putting a stop to it. It's going to be the nerf hammer that's going to stop it. -

Because there's still an easy way to farm? Because when you select a defendable object, you can get 12 of them to stack on each other? Because there are defendable objects that give +regen status bonus? Because you can get over 1000% regen by doing this?
[/ QUOTE ]
Woah, Dayum. That does not sound right at all, stacking objectives, youch. I'd let the Devs know about that one if I were you, looks like a bug.

In this case I really hope you all don't get what you are wishing for. While it would amuse the heck out of me to see authors going nuts because a nice feature got nerfed at their own insistence, I happen to enjoy fighting waves of lieutenants or bosses around objects.

So do I, but if they feel it needs to be nerfed, it's going to be nerfed no matter what we want. -
Quoting from the post you linked ....
[ QUOTE ]
The first idea was only allowing MA access related to character level. The zone must be the characters level or higher to allow access to the MA in that zone.
This keeps players with higher level characters that want to use the MA out of the lower level zones. This stops broadcast in Atlas Park (for example) for level 50 "boss" teams, etc. It means that if you want to do the kind of exploitive power-leveling/farming that was going on before the MA was released, you would have to go to the highest-level zones like you did before the MA was released - Peregrine Island or Grandville. It at least drives this behavior back to where it was and frees up the rest of the game for players that don't want to be involved with this kind of behavior.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll agree with this ... This will force higher levels out of the lower level zones if they want to use AE.
[ QUOTE ]
The second idea is also to put a character level +20 (or so, maybe even +10 is really in order if we want to stop the abuse) level cap on what zones a character can have access to the MA based on the zones level range.
This would only really work if the first idea was implemented as this is intended to reduce the amount of power-leveling and farming that high level characters can involve lower level characters and, therefore, new/unknowing users - that could be persuaded into doing something wrong by exploiters.
[/ QUOTE ]
No to this. The reasoning behind why I wouldn't like this is because it would cause people not to be able to play AE if there were a level 50, and a level 20 on the team. Quite often, I find myself teamed with lower level people with a spread of 20 levels or more. Really, any toon that is level 22+ and has SO's can effectivly keep up with a level 50 team.
Your first idea will reduce the high levels out of the lower level MA buildings, but I don't see any reason to keep the lower levels out of the higher level MA buildings. It will effectivly force lower level toons to higher level zones, making it a challange for them to get to the building (excluding the situation where a team member has recall friend).
This would effectivly clean up atlas, and subsequent lower level zones, and push everything back to PI (or grandville).
The reasoning why I wouldn't want to eliminate low level toons from high level MA arcs is the same as not wanting to alter the sk system. -

Why do people keep trying to come up with "fixes" for stuff that isn't broken in the first place?
The devs have already forced all creatures to have ranged attacks, removed exploits like the Rikti Comm Officers, and nerfed the ticket cap to 15% of what it used to be. I don't see asking for even more restrictions as a particularly good idea.

Don't get me wrong, I love having 12 defendable objects stacked on each other, but I doubt that is what was intended, but then again, maybe it was. At the very least, remove the status effects from all objects. -

Your average player probably doesn't care too much if he can't use the burning forest map in AE anymore, but if you cut his experience, he's going to notice, and he's going to be pissed...
[/ QUOTE ]
I guess I'm not "average", since I very nearly drove down to Paragon Studios in person to [censored] at them over this one. Seriously, if they pull that [censored] again people will quit writing stories. After a point it becomes just not worth the hassle to rewrite every patch.
[/ QUOTE ]
Defendable objects will be getting a nerf too ... It's unfortunate since I really enjoy fighting 100+ enemies at once. It makes my toons feel super.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's odd, I thought they had already been nerfed. The patch notes that upped the ambush limit to 6 claimed that ambushes from defendable objects would be counted in that total.
[/ QUOTE ]
Apparently, it's not in effect yet. That's not to mention some of the unique powers these defendable objects offer. -

Can you link the patch notes on this BS? I can't find the nerf patch notes. OMG what a joke.

I've seen it happen to Stalkers "after" an AS on well built Blasters too....the Blasters survived the AS (standing still...) as well as the couple follow-up attacks, they didn't heal and still killed the Stalker before Build Up + Aim was even expired...its pathetic to watch, but it happens. Squishy +res is outta control imho, but ymmv..
[/ QUOTE ]
Bad stalkers are bad...when i AS a blaster and they know its me..they run like hell or hibernates right away. I love when a blaster "thinks" he's going to attack me when i as him.....i just placate and AS him again. lol But yea that res is not that bad vs stalkers anyway....the critical part of AS is currently unresisted. Unless the stalker is bad and does not AS that res should not really matter to him.

I enjoy standing around squishies. Throw a taunt out when I see a stalker do an AS. -

Farmers use an MA mechanic to maximise their rewards with no thought for story, and said mechanic gets nerfed. Future storytellers cannot use said mechanic for storytelling purposes.
A possible solution might be to have a split at the 'creat a new arc' point in the MA.
You'd have two options.
'create new arc with rewards' - this would let you build an arc with the MA functionality we have now, and said fiuncionality would continue to be nerfed if and when required in response to farmers abuses.
'create new arc with expanded story options' - this would be the MA as at launch of I14 (updated of course by anything I15 brings) without any nerfs to ambushes, rikti comm officers allowed, etc, and with no future nerfs to MA mechanics (other than for things that make arcs unplayable such as the Crey hero map geometry bug etc), but with no rewards dropped by arcs made in this way.
The latter system I think would be used by a minority of players and authors, but would possibly produce better story-focused arcs.
And the rewards can still be gained through the 'normal' MA arcs.
Eco.
'create new arc with rewards' - this would be the MA as we have it now (or even backdated to the point it was at at I14 launch
[/ QUOTE ]
Would the create new arc with expanded story options still be available to become dev choice and player choice?
I would be for this, providing it won't take another issue of its own to produce. -

It's true. in the most classic sense of the phrase that I'm aware of.
City of Heroes -died- when the Architect went live. And a New CoH was crowned. Nothing much else has changed.
The population spiked, then dipped (as it usually does when an issue drops) people used the new toy incessantly for a few weeks, then got back to the normal game, for the most part. And nothing changed.
It's just like royalty. A King dies and the new King is crowned, 2-3 weeks of celebration, then it's back to business as usual.
What don't people get about his? It happened when Kheldians came out (EVERYONE made Kheldians if they had the option) Then the Arena, then Villains, then the PvP zones, and so on and so forth.
There will be -some- members of the community that keep tinkering with the new toy. Like the Arena PvPers, Kheldian Players, SoA players, etc. But ultimately the vast majority of the game's population will go back to what they were doing beforehand.
PuGs are back on track, so are Task Force teams and PuG TFs. I play mostly on Virtue and Pinnacle, with a little dabbling on Guardian. I think I've got a -fairly- decent cross section of high and low population servers. I play at pretty random hours (As early as 8am, as late as 3am CST depending on my schedule)
The game is about the same as it's ever been.
Architect has killed CoH. Long Live CoH!

Interesting perspective ... I play the game solo and on teams for 2/3rds reward and 1/3rd story content (roughly). At the moment, rewards are significantly better in AE than in regular content. Prior to AE, I didn't farm as nearly as much as I did, but since the inception of AE, farming as been made fun, and allows my toons to feel more heroic.
It seems every time I log in now, I'm looking for an AE mission with tons of ambushes and/or alot of AV's, and have alot of fun playing them.
While I agree that people will eventually return to what they were doing prior to AE, you also have to realize that people who farm are returning to farming, but doing so in a more fun environment.
People who like fighting 10 groups at once will remain in AE until that aspect of MA is nerfed by the devs.
