  2. [ QUOTE ]

You won't want to run (nor will your team want you to run) Force Bubble. While it may do a fine job of keeping the melee off the squishies it's totally unneeded. The squishies should all be softcapped with your grantable shields, Dispersion, and Manuvers. If a squishy gets into trouble that's what Force Bolt and Torrent are for. Tenebrious Tentacles will also assure that squishies remain out of melee.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I was thinking specifically of mission 3 and 4 of the ITF. Possibly even mission 2. Mission 2 would allow me to run through with force bubble and help whoever is breaking cysts move through unharmed. Mission 3, force bubble could be used for the computer and for the AV's. Mission 4 FB would keep the ambushes out. It will make me a target which is what I want the soft cap for.
  3. [ QUOTE ]

You're going for soft-capped AoE and ranged, while also slotting your blasts for ToHit debuffs?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm creating a synergy between the FF and the Dark. It will be running the ITF a bit.

    [ QUOTE ]

And slotting Repulsion Bomb with a disorient set?

    [/ QUOTE ]
The set slotted in that power give 6.25% recharge or somewhere around there and 3.13 ranged defense bonus. I think it's somewhere around those numbers, as I'm not at home where I made the build up. It's one of the best sets for capping ranged and recharge. I have it on a archer blaster in stunning shot.

    [ QUOTE ]

    And Life Drain with debuffs?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I did that for the defense bonus the set offers. After second guessing myself, I was thinking about putting a heal set in there. Or something that will offer more range. It's tough to figure out what to put there that will keep the balance between AOE, ranged, and rechage.

    [ QUOTE ]

While /not/ maxing out the def bonuses from Dispersion Bubble and Maneuvers?

    [/ QUOTE ]
They are maxed or very close to it. 53% defense bonus roughly.

    [ QUOTE ]

You're taking Speed over Leaping or Flight, which both have powers that give +def?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I always take speed as my first travel power because of the +stealth. With a stealth IO, I have total invisibility. I took hover for combat manueverability. Both hover and superspeed is giving me AoE and Ranged defense bonuses.

    [ QUOTE ]

You want to max out your use of Force Bubble, but don't have any +range in Tentacles?

    [/ QUOTE ]
This, I realized the next day while I was thinking about it. I will have to figure out how to increase my range so I can keep force bubble up and use the to hit debuffs at longer range to make it more effective. Any ideas on this? I'm using the Acc/Debuff sets for the ranged and aoe defense boost.

    [ QUOTE ]

You want maxed out recharge, but you're 2-slotting hasten

    [/ QUOTE ]
3 slotting hasten only gives about 15% more recharge bonus with anoter recharge IO. With PK's idea of leaving PFF one slotted, I have two more slots to work with though.

    [ QUOTE ]

You have a, seemingly, team-oriented build, but you've skimped on the +def for Insulation?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Defense is almost capped. With Power Build Up, I'm not to worried about it.

    [ QUOTE ]

You seem to be going off in a few different directions at once, and I honestly can't see where you're going. Your only powers slotted for damage are Total Focus, a melee power, and Blackstar, a PBAoE ... but you have built your toon for survivability at range?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I wanted a couple of decent powers if I wanted to solo. That's what total focus, and blackstar are for. While I like playing support, it's nice to have a few powers that will let me solo. That's what those two powers are for. Are there any other powers that deal decent damage that would work better with what I have?
    [ QUOTE ]

what do you want this toon to do? Team support? Soloing? AoE carnage? What's the goal in maxing out recharge? Why the focus on making Force Bubble useful, but having few powers that can reach its edge?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm making this toon team support with the option of soloing. If I could find a ranged attack that deals as much damage as total focus, I could swap out for that power. The goal for maxing out recharge is to make the powers that I would use solo recharge quicker because there wouldn't be many of them. And the focus on force bubble is because I have two FF, one a FF/NRG and the other a Mind/FF and force bubble makes mobs really mad. I'd like to be able to use it more in confidence that I won't get smashed when it's up from ranged attacks.

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions though, I'll try to modify the build a bit so it has more range and see if I can find something better than total focus and blackstar.
  4. So I'm making a ff/dark, and she's (female toon) getting close to 47, so I wrote up a mids build I'm going to use for her. I'm going for soft capped ranged defense and soft cap AOE defense, and as much recharge as possible. I want the ranged and aoe to be soft capped so force bubble is more useful. If anyone sees anything I could do differently, I'm open to opinions. Right now the recharge is a little on the low side which is what I'm trying to figure out how to raise without dropping AoE or Ranged below 45.

  5. [ QUOTE ]

    Who taught you to troll . . . City_Life?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    /City_Life

It's a little harder to type out than +1 or /jranger but it might stick.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
I used to look forward to double xp weekend.
I was excited about leveling quickly and knowing that tons of players would be playing and I'd get to play on some great and full teams.

Honestly, now I could care less about double XP weekend, and I agree that the AE is part of that.

It seems that farmers complaining have made the DEVs back down or at least be very quiet about their actions against them.

The AE was created with the intent that it would not be farming or power leveling tool.

Not allowing double XP in the AE would be a good way to force players out of the AE.
Obviously if it is allowed, it just doubles the cheating and exploits that are already out of control in the AE.

For myself, I am not very excited or motivated by Double XP weekend.

It would be a shame if double xp was allowed in the AE and that cheaters should prosper.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If allowing double xp in AE would make you quit the game, then I'm all for it
  7. [ QUOTE ]

By "era" I mean...well...surely you know what it was like when Fire/Kins ruled, yes? Farming meant "Fire/Kins" before. All weekend I saw a completely different farming culture....one that does not center around the Fire/Kin. A player would not even have to own a Fire/Kin to farm non-stop now.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That is correct. You can now farm with any toon since you can customize your enemies to your strengths. However, a fire/kin is still the "best" soloer.

    [ QUOTE ]

And wouldn't have to pay either.

    [/ QUOTE ]
It's always good practice to charge influence if you are going to run more than one person on your farm. It weeds out all the people who are new. I hate PLing new players to the game. Most of the time I'm farming with friends, but occasionaly, I'll get extra people.

A Fire/Kin is still the best for this because they have the DPS and the survivability to solo farm, so people paying can either door sit, or participate.

Do people have to pay? No. Most likely, they'll be able to get on a team that will be able to PL themselves. But low level toons are the most likly to pay influence because unless your a low level on a high level team, getting a free ride to 22 is hard, with the exception of the new farm which will probably be fixed soon.

    [ QUOTE ]

Now they seem to start with a Tanker and fill out the team from there. Sure they'll take a Fire/Kin

    [/ QUOTE ]
I always try to get any type of /kin or kin/ on a farm team. FS is the best buff in the game by farm. It maxes everyone's DPS. A Fire/Kin offers the best buff in the game, and DPS on top of it. So out of all the /kin or kin/ I prefer fire/kin.

    [ QUOTE ]

If Fire/Kins are "farming more than before" they are certainly well hidden. Nothing could have been more visible before. So I find it tough to believe that they have all suddenly gotten secretive.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'll admit, I'm not farming with my fire/kin at the moment. I have been playing a fire/kin for quite awhile, but my best fire/kin is on the justice server, and I recently started playing on virtue. I've made a change to see what all the hype was about arch/mm blasters, and made a ss/ice tank. My fire/kin is still better than my arch/mm or my ss/ice tank.
  8. [ QUOTE ]

The Fire/Kin era was PI. That's now over. Maybe this past weekend was an abnormality or something, but it looked like farming is a team thing now. The Fire/Kin is "king" of something that isn't done any more.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Your assuming that nobody is solo farming lvl 52 lt's on a Fire/Kin. It's incorrect to try and predict what people are doing behind closed doors. You'll never know for sure.
  9. Have him do the pizza missions for hollows, the field analysts, and the pvp zones.
  10. [ QUOTE ]

Fire/Kins were the kings of solo farming before AE

    [/ QUOTE ]
Fire/Kins are still the kings of solo farming.
There are alot of close seconds.

    [ QUOTE ]

One instance of PI on Freedom? On a Sunday afternoon? Nothing in broadcast? It's like we got a new zone for the 40+ game

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Atlas Park

    [ QUOTE ]

    No tells to fill?

    [/ QUOTE ]
With AE, no fill is required. You can farm quite nicely now using defendable objects. They increase spawn size.

    [ QUOTE ]

I'm sure there are some Fire/Kins out there solo farming something....but I haven't seen them.

    [/ QUOTE ]
They fit in nicely on a group for a 54 boss farm team. They can now also farm solo without looking for fill.

    [ QUOTE ]

Is lvl 54 bosses really that efficient?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    No

    [ QUOTE ]

While you can solo lvl 52 bosses, that appeared to be out of reach for most.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I can solo lvl 52 bosses that do damage which my fire/kin is highly resistant to. Any other group of 52 bosses would smother my fire/kin. It's still not effieceint to do those even. LT's is the best for a fire/kin.
  11. [ QUOTE ]

We're talking about big groups of lvl 54 bosses.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I don't care what people farm, but saying that the era of Fire/Kin is over is crazy. They have been and still are the best solo toon to farm with. Can they solo 54 Bosses? Probably not. Can the solo 52 bosses? Mine can. Pre AE, there was no such thing as farming 54 bosses, let alone 54 anything.

    [ QUOTE ]

And no matter how good you think your timing is....someone is going to get the alpha strike. Whoever hit flashfire a fraction of a second before anyone else gets at least 4 or 5 +4 bosses taking a shot at you. If there is some way that "experience" makes you have more hitpoints, I would love to hear it

    [/ QUOTE ]
Anything that takes an alpha from level 54 bosses is 1)Going to die or 2) Survive, almost be dead and die from the next shot and probably has very little damage output.

The only way I've been able to run 54 boss farms is with team mates who have lots of buffs. 2 or 3 people fully IO'd and one of them being someone who can buff will probably be able to run a boss farm set on a team size of 8.

Usually, when I get blind invites, if the farm is 54 bosses, I quit. If I get tells for farms, I'll reply that if the farm isn't 54 bosses I'll join. 52 bosses are doable, but time consuming to drop. There was a reason people filled maps with a team size of 6 and not 8 pre AE.

    [ QUOTE ]

That lowbie scrapper got faceplanted a couple of times trying to go in first. Sure you'll win....but someone is going to die almost every group. I even swallowed 3 purps and got killed once. +4 bosses have some great acc I guess. (And it doesn't take many hits from them to do you in)

    [/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. Nothing that I know of can solo farm a large group of level 54 bosses and live. If I am wrong, please supply the toon and build that can do this in a timely manner.

    [ QUOTE ]

If that offends some that still want to think Fire/Kins are gods, so be it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If being able to solo 52 Behemoth bosses on a team size of 8 != gods, then your point is valid.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
thanks for the build folonius, im not excatly a patient buyer i usually buy it straight away.

But mostly recipes as they are cheaper.

Thoose basillisk cost a fortune 20-70mill a piece is alot for 7% recharge.

there must be a cheaper way to achieve 6% atleast.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you buy they recipes instead of the enhancements and make them yourself, you'll be spending 5-10mil less than what you'll be paying for the enhancements. I've been flipping the basilisk set, buying the recipes for 1-5 mil and reslling the enhancement for 20mil.
  13. Toss Inertial Reduction, and get weave. You don't need to 3 slot siphon power. The only time that will actually be usefull is when your on a team against an AV. Put one of those slots in Transfusion, and add an Acc IO to it. Solo farming, you don't need smoke. Flashfire and Cinders will be enough if you are going for recharge. Get Combat Jumping or Stealth instead for more defense. Combat Jumping allows for defense and movement IO's. Stealth is more defense, but is defense IO's only. You don't need an end reduction in siphon speed, transference will take care of most end issues, and two slot health and throw numina +regen/+recov and miracle +recov. I'd use basilisks gaze in char as well as cinders also. Greater recharge bonus than decimation. Transference should be 6 slotted with efficency adapter. Fulcrum shift should be either 4 slotted with 2 recharge and 2 Acc, 5 slotted with 3 recharge, 2 acc, or 6 slotted with 3 rech and 3 acc. You don't need an end reduc in cinders. It should be 6 slotted though with max recharge and max hold time. The steadfast protection +3 global defense IO is a must, and at least one knockback protection IO is helpful too.

I tweeked your build ... With 2 applications of siphon speed, you'll have perma haste, and no purples in the build. Total cost of this build, if you are patient in your buying, will be around 600-800mil.

    Is this a farm?

    [ QUOTE ]

Soooo what if someone creates fire mobs to face their Ice tank. Would that be ok?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Ice tanks have high resist to fire, but even higher to ice. Possibly would be flagged as a farm since there's only one type of damage being delt.

    [ QUOTE ]

So what if I come along (not my arc mind you) with my Fire tank and played the same one. Is the creator suddenly at fault because it is easy for some people and not others?

    [/ QUOTE ]
If it were only fire damage, it is intended to be a farm. I have no proof other than knowing it was in a post that has been since deleted which I created. I have to assume everything in that post was "not allowed".

    [ QUOTE ]

Nitpick note. No one is immune to any type of damage.

    [/ QUOTE ]
With enough resist/defense and regen, it can effectivly make you immune.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]

so it doesn't make sense to you that I don't believe anything is perfect?

    [/ QUOTE ]
No, it does not make sense. I'll explain why.

If by definition nothing is perfect, then by definition a 5 star rating does not mean perfect.

    [/ QUOTE ]

To relate our rating system to school rating systems, there are teachers that refuse to give students A's ... I even vaguely remember someone suing a teacher because they refused to give A's ... A does not mean perfect, it means excellent. Think of 5 stars the same way.

    [ QUOTE ]

The rating system has 5 stars, each of which represents 20% of the maximum possible rating. If you rate a story-arc with 5 stars it means that the story-arc is in the top 20% of story-arcs in the Mission Architect in your opinion. That's all that it means. 5 stars does not mean it is perfect.

    [/ QUOTE ]

To expand what you have said, 5 stars means Excellent .. which is an A ...The problem with our rating system is ... 5 starts is an A, 4 stars is a B, 3 stars is a ... D .... and there's a 20 point spread between an A, and a B ... It's kind of like those pop quizzes you got in school which consited of 5 questions. You get 2 wrong, and your screwed. There needs to be more stars ... At least 10 ...

    [ QUOTE ]

In other words: if you're playing MA story-arcs and intentionally refusing to give any of them 5-stars, then are either an idiot or you are griefing

    [/ QUOTE ]
Saying that nothing is perfect is a common philisophical debate. Yes, I can see his point, and to some degree I agree that nothing can be perfect. Giving 5 stars means they get 100% ... should you give 100% if you find something wrong with it you don't like or should you give them 95%? Except that the next step on the scale is 80%. I read someones respons to one of the OP's arcs, and they said that there wasn't enough color in the arc descriptions when the contact was talking. I think there shouldn't be any color at all. One of us isn't going to give him 5 stars. You can't appeal to everyone, and the people you don't appeal to are going to 1-4 star your arc.

    Is this a farm?

    [ QUOTE ]
Why would a player get hit with the "ban hammer" for a Farm? WTF is wrong with all of you? Don't confuse "farm" with "exploitative" otherwise we would have seen bans for everything from Wolves to Drill Machines to Rikti Portals to Kraken sewer trial farming long before the AE existed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because farming AE isn't allowed. Creating custom lt's that have only attacks what you are immune to isn't allowed. Oh, and they aren't going to fix it either. So just don't play like that ...

Creating several LT's with several different attack chains and adding a story is a good way to ensure you get the rewards you deserve while fighting in a well built team.

    Is this a farm?

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
I entered a mission the other day where all the mobs were LTs. and it was on a common farm map, Map 02. And there was no story to speak of.

So I figured it was a farm.

However, instead of all the mobs being the same kind, these were all custom ... kind of like the Justice League of America, except their names and costumes were nothing like the JLA.

But it was clear who they were supposed to be. A black clad, black caped martial artist ... a HUGE invul/ss tank all in green and yellow ... an yellow clad archer ... a very UGLY and SCARRED sonic gal in fishnets ... and so forth. All with the different power sets of the JLA.

So is this a farm? (It wasn't playing to any specific strength or weakness; wide variety of melee and ranged ATs, and fliers) There is no story. Just a Kill All mission. (though the status said Story in Progress, or some sort)

Is it a copyright infraction? The intent is clearly the JLA but there are no similar character names or costumes? Is that the difference between a copyright infraction and a homage?

I don't know what to make of this thing. I'm not looking to report it or anything ... so I won't list its name or number ... but I am curious.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Since it's all LT's, it can be farmed... Is it an optimal farm? No .... It doesn't sound like the intent of the mission is to be a farm... Just hard...

    [/ QUOTE ]
I farm a LT. mission with 6 different damage types.

    [/ QUOTE ]

As I said, it can be farmed, but it's not optimal.

Edit: Good way to avoid the ban hammer.
  18. [ QUOTE ]

Yes there are those who think that their work is perfect and don't listen but those tend to be the exception rather than the rule. And so what if someone gets mad from negative feedback and starts harassing you? Ignore exists for a reason and it's not like nobody has ever been banned for harassment either.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Except then that person can now grief your arcs because they know who you are.

i have played it in missions but i havent farmed with it.

i asked for help i didnt ask for someome to question me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, for farming the two most important powers are Bonfire and Repel. You want to take both of those as early as possible, and 6 slot them. Toggle on Repel the moment you enter your farm map and never turn it off. When you approach each spawn, drop Bonfire wait a second or two, then throw out your Fire Cages. After that, just let your imps clean up the leftovers...

I can totally vouch for this. Its awesome, try it.

The DEVs made it clear that they didn't want anyone using the AE as a farming tool and that players would be punished for doing so. The DEVs dropped the 10-ton hammer on some of those farming the AE.

    [/ QUOTE ]
players have already been punished, whether it was just or not. In my view, it was a cololsal mistake to do so because many people have left the game. To do another round of banning and toon deletion would be an insane business move.

People learn through mistakes, and I firmly believe they realize it was a mistake.
  23. [ QUOTE ]

I am part of the group that doesn't want to commit to a SG and prefers to have a few globle friends, and join pugs most the time. THIS is how I've played for over 4 years and AE has ruined that for me. All you folks saying it hasn't ruined anything and people like me need to just join a SG or change the way we play....just don't get it. If the shoe was on the other foot and I was saying you just need to quit your SGs and play all pug teams, I'm sure you folks would quickly understand what I'm trying to say. Just because it hasn't changed your game experience, please don't be so niave as to believe it hasn't drasticly effected others.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I play on PUGS quite a bit, and the only thing I've noticed that is different are all the new players that are returning to this game. If new subscriptions == ruining the game, then yes, I agree.

I think that's what it was, BBQ.

So a level 41 standing in the same mish as a level 50 who was fighting level 53s. The level 41 would gain XP as if fighting enemies that were +12 from their level.

If it's been knocked down to +8 that's helpful. =-3

Purple Patch, Warwolves getting ranged attacks, aggro-caps keeping people from herding Brickstown into a Dumpster, etc. The changes haven't ever been instantaneous. Often they're far slower than many would like. But they do happen.

Not quite .... If you have a level 41 on the team, and a level 50 powerleveling, a level 43 person gains experience, and a level 44 can bridge.

This still works, albeit you now need a level 1 also. So a level 43 will gain experience from level 52's which is a level spread of 9. This is a long standing issue that has been around for quite awhile, has been bugged, and has never been fixed. It's probably not high on priority.

Basically once a mission is over, when you have the chance to rate, submit critisism, or report for content, you can have a button that will flag that arc as "not to be played".

Due to complaints constantly against my farm arc, I unpublish my farm map after I'm done running it. It eliminates any complaints against it, and would effectivly null your idea because it's assigned a new Arc ID when published again.

If this idea were implemented, two things would probably need to happen. First is that the complaint system on farms would need to go away. Reporting an arc that it is a farm mission would do nothing against the owner or the arc. Secondly, if the leader of the team tries to start an arc, and is unable to because someone on the team put it on his "Do Not Play" list, the leader needs to know who exactly is the cause of being unable to select that particular arc so he knows who to kick.
