Seriously, I don't want to act like some sort of "it's all about me" type in RP - with great power comes great responsibility. I didn't want to act that way - if I did, then that must be the problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then why do you ALWAYS do it? -
*cough* No punches being pulled here folks, sorry. Time for some home truths.
Looking at that wall of text Z kindly filtered for us, the problem isn't so much the godlike characters, and more the absolutely shockingly appalling roleplaying on display. Really, you guys should be on Bad Roleplayers Suck, and probably are... I'm not surprised the guy left, he probably did that to prevent himself hunting you down in RL and yanking your modem cable out.
It's always the same with you, Phantoms. Every time you turn up at GG, you've got some absolutely awful character that NO one wants to talk to, because he's done everything, seen everything, got all the powers, murdered hundreds of heroes, whatever. Everything someone says, your char has done it better, had it worse, got the t-shirt, wrote the movie, starred in it, made a billion bucks from it, and married the leading lady.
As to why godlike characters aren't liked, Birdy has already given the answer to that; but I'm not expecting you to take the slightest bit of notice. I have zero doubt that the next time you grace GG with your presence, it'll be on yet another char that's on some kind of rehab program after killing 100's of heroes or some other stupidity. -

I'd gladly call Osama Bin Laden a heroic man if he blows up Worlds.com HQ...

That really wasn't very funny, boyo.

Having given this careful thought, I've come to the following conclusion.
PvP can NEVER be "fixed" in this game. It doesn't matter what the devs do, there will always be a group of people who aren't happy, and will make damn sure everyone knows it.
Best course of action, roll back to i12 PvP so that hopefully the PvPers who left in a strop come back, and forget about trying to get more people in to it. It's just not going to happen. -

I'm still not convinced that the patent even covers the way CoH is implemented -- CoH has nothing like the "N closest neighbours" filtering discussed in the patent, for instance.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think the closest it has is the 50yard range on local chat.
Mind you, not that I'm defending worlds.com, but I used to use their system back in 1995/6 on dialup, so it IS pretty old... But it's NOTHING like CoH, at all. In fact, having tried Liden Lab's Second Life once, the first thing that struck me was "Hmm, is this by the worlds.com people?" -
I'm pretty certain that prior art does apply in the US courts. I've seen software patent cases dismissed in the past due to it.

Yeah worlds.com are expecting NCsoft to go for a quick and easy out of court settlement but if NCsoft do that then that would mean worlds.com would be open to take any number of companies to court...with a very good chance of winning or worse crippling those companies to the point of closure.
[/ QUOTE ]
If this is a real concern, then the likes of Blizzard et al are likely to financialy back NCSoft in defeating this action.
[/ QUOTE ]
I concur... NC losing this would set a precedent and cost the whole MMO industry millions. There's a good chance that before that happened, they'd for a coalition of sorts and combine their strength to squash the litigation. -
Then I suggest you send a /petition to a GM, see if they can take a look at your mission log and resolve the issue.

yeah my drivers are fully updated, and mac is way better than pc, but ive got bootcamp on my mac so vista works as normal. Ive already joined mac beta, but i want the real game
So does know one have any ideas
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, Bootcamp does NOT make things 100% compatible. It's emulating a regular BIOS, so some problems CAN still occur. IIRC, people have posted having problems similar to this before on Mac's, and Bootcamp was the likely culprit then.
As for Mac's being better, just... Not the place to start THAT argument! You want 100% compatibility with PC games, you need to run ON a PC, not partially emulating on a Mac.
Post your specs and your driver versions if you want help. Saying you have a Mac is about as much use to me as saying you got socks for Christmas. -
Do you have missions that you've completed, but not gone back to the contact? Those will be considered open missions until you talk to the contact again.

After i finish pressing next and i agree on the client it goes to the loading bar, then just cuts straight to a black screen. I can still go bak on windows and use internet but the game just refuses to load. Its done this ever since issue 13 but annoyingly it works fine when on safe mode.
Ive got a new mac pro and the game has been working fine untill reacently when it just refuses to work, it did this a little bit when issue 13 first came out then for the past few days has just refused to work.
Anyone have any idea what the problem is and no before u ask i dont use windowblinds
[/ QUOTE ]
It's a Mac, there's the problem.
Perhaps you should apply for the Mac Beta of CoH? They still need folks, and it's due to release on the Mac very soon; then you can play it "natively". Other than that, your most likely cause is drivers. -
Are you running any OS skinning programs like WindowsBlinds? This is one of the observed behaviours with that program and you'll need to disable it for the game to work properly.
If not, post back with your full system spec and video driver version and I'll see if I can help. -
So, I take it you've read nothing about the 3 main undersea internet cables getting cut over Christmas, and the rest of the network, notably Europe, bearing a lot of the extra load? They're currently under repair. It's been all over TV and internet news...

AA and DoF cannot be used at the same time with ATI card. Also, High water detail is likely to cause some graphic corruption. Sorry.

Rolando Island, Christmas Eve. 11:15pm
Ellie hummed softly to herself, smiling happily as stood in the kitchen, pouring 4 glasses of mulled wine. Her soft fluffy pink dressing gown hung loosely about her shoulders as she poured the drinks, then walked over to the fridge for some snacks.
Several minutes later, the tray prepared, she glances up at the ceiling, her eyes automatically shifting focus until the glittering forms her her loves aura's became visible, clustered close together in her enormous bed. The brighter glow of the large plasma screen TV almost overwhelmed their aura's, but a slight alteration of her focus banished it's jarring glow until the soft glittering of the girls was once more filling the room.
Sighing happily to herself, Ellie shifted her vision back to normal and lifted the tray, humming "Jingle Bells" as she headed back upstairs.

Unity Tower Medical Unit - Room 3. Christmas Morning, 7am
Cara sat quietly by her mothers bed, listening quietly to the soft beep of the monitoring equipment. Her mother lay quiet in the bed, as always; her vacant eyes staring up at the ceiling and a small trickle of saliva shining on her chin.
Slowly, Cara sat up and took a tissue from a box on the bedside cabinet, then wiped her mothers mouth gently. "I dunno mom, always with the drool. You'll end up getting sore lips if you keep doing that you know..."
Cara sat back again, then leaned down to the floor and picked up a small, carefully wrapped box in golden paper. "I got you a present, mom. Want me to open it?"
She listened for a moment, before smiling and carrying on; her mother didn't respond. "Okay, sure thing mom." Carefully, she began to unwrap it, then standing up, showed her mom the contents. "See mom? It's a little crystal figure of me! If you look close, you can see my face and everything, it's just what I look like when I use my ice form! I thought you'd like it to remind you of me when I'm not visiting. Isn't it neat?"
She turned the figurine slowly, showing it to her unresponsive mom from every angle, then carefully set it on the side.
"I'll leave it right here mom, where you can look at it whenever you want, okay?"
Cara smiled sandly, then leaned over to give her mother a hug, and kissed her gently on the cheek. "Merry Christmas mom. Don't worry about getting me anything, 'kay? You can do it when you're feeling a little better. I have to get going now, there's a big Christmas breakfast and stuff going on with all the other students."
Cara patted her mothers bedclothes straight, the gave her another kiss on the cheek before turning and heading to the door. As she opened it, she turned back, a hint of tears at the corner of her eyes. "Love you mom."
A moment later, she was gone and the room was quiet once more. -
Right, I'm off home.. I have baking and stuff to do, then tea at the inlaws (urgh). Laters folks!

A fair point.
However if all the forums are going to be overhauled in the near future (i.e. move to a new platform) then there was be less effort involved.
[/ QUOTE ]
Part of the reason why they don't is actually technical, and accounts based. The forums have to connect to ours accounts to see if we're subbed to play, which would probably mean we'd have to be auth'd to play the US game to post on the US servers, and thus giving us free access to those servers. Not going to happen.
If you remember, for the US devs to be able to post over here, NCSoft EU ended up having to give them EU game accounts. -
[ QUOTE ]
The fact the US servers get patches and issue batas before the EU would cause problems IE: 'na na na na na naaaaaaaaaaa' posts and such and 'waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa why do you give the US patches before the EU waaaaaaaaaaaaa'
It would be a very bad move IMO.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's not always the case. There have been occasions where WE have had patches before the US; same for some news postings. -
This has also been discussed a lot, though not quite as much as server merges. IIRC, general consensus is that the downside of losing our community in the US one would outweigh the minimal benefit of being able to talk to the devs directly.
As much as I'd like to post on the US forums, I greatly prefer our generally much more friendly forums. -

DX10 Support

CoX is an OpenGL game, so DX10 support would really be a total waste of time.

Work in half a hour? Lucky thing! I've been at work since 6am...

Merry Christmas folks. Get drunk, have fun, enjoy your presents, and don't play monopoly!
