How will she ever comply to the timezone difference? Afaik thats 8 hours (or was it 7? meh wintertime and stuff), making quite some gaps in rolling out and moderating the forums. (we are already pretty active when US side still is in a deep sleep).
Hm, sad to keep asking questions to you though, knowing we soon loose you too. Only some PR notice to a MMO website was apperently sufficient to give a reply to the EU.
[/ QUOTE ]
She'll either work non-standard hours to comply with the EU timezones, or forum modding will have an 8 hour lag. -

Even letting Avateas take over is an almighty risk because if you make someone redundant, you are not allowed to fil that post for 3 months.
[/ QUOTE ]
Avatea's role will be different from mine (although what you all will see will be similar), and she'll be based in the NCNC office. I had the option of making that move or taking voluntary redundancy, and I've chosen the latter.
[/ QUOTE ]
When do you leave us, GR? -
Hello Avatea, and welcome! We've met before, at the pub opposite Omega Sektor; I was one of the ones trying to sober up Gangrel for you, remember?

I hope you enjoy your tenure looking after us, and hope the move over to California goes smoothly for you!
Can you give us a rough timescale for when you'll be moving over and taking full control? -

but doing nothing about it wont help solve it

Oh, I agree. However, reporting it doesn't work either. -

Out of curiosity how many of the people who have had rubberbanding, mapserver disconnects, power lag etc have bugged them it may seem pointless and yes its dam tedious going thru all the pre set questions but it will help identify problems.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's been really bad for me lately. Even been getting up to 10 seconds lag on CHAT!
I've given up petitioning over it too.. Fed up with being told that it's my ISP/router/computer/choice of religion that's causing it.
It's that datacentre, pure and simple. It's caused nothing BUT problems since the EU version was launched, and the problems WILL continue until the EU servers are relocated.
EDIT to add: The continuing forum problems don't really help either!
All of this stuff, plus what's gone on in Brighton lately... I think I can sum it all up in one short sentence.

As seen on QI (clip).
It's actually "Oh sod it - the bloody thing's stuck again"... which is a step down from the F-word so I'm not too worried about posting the link!
I have a cuddly Major clanger who says this when you squeeze him.

Darn my faulty memory! I wasn't far off though!

(yes, germany has node problems atm - but the rubberbanding on large numbers have been an issue that go way before any node issues).
[/ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately, this is something which can NOT be denied. The EU servers have ALWAYS struggled once you get up to 400+ users concurrently, and that's absolutely TERRIBLE for an MMO. It should be able to handle 1000's at once... It's either the network links in that datacenter, the servers themselves, or a serious flaw in the game's net code. Either way, it's not good and it really is time they sorted it out. -

I personally think it's all to do with the coming storm. Perhaps there's life on the moon coming to Earth, to destroy us?

I knew not to trust those damn Clangers.
Never trust something that could be swearing at you in slidewhistleese.

Quite often, they WERE!
I was watching an interview with one of the makers last year, and there was one episode where they were trying to get, I think it was some doors, open; but they were stuck.

Mother, they CANT come outright and spell out directly what's going ion until the redudancy process is complete. If they do they are opening themselves up for an almighty employment claim. Not least because the process is legislative.
Even letting Avateas take over is an almighty risk because if you make someone redundant, you are not allowed to fil that post for 3 months.
I'm very well versed in UK HR law but not in USA or international so maybe there is a loophole there somewhere.
But I think GR and others may well have a possible constructive dismissal claim simpl;y n the basis that someone is taking over their roles. As I say, I'm not 100% sure because of the UK / USA thing. But NC sure as heck wont want to predudice themselves any further.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not really... They're moving the jobs to the USA. As far as we know, GR and others were offered equivalent positions in the USA, or voluntary redundancy, so NC's backs are pretty much covered really. There's no claim there.
The "not allowed to replace for 3 months" thing doesn't apply either, as there IS no position in the UK anymore. That there is in the US is not relevant to British legislation. -
Welcome to my world, Sin. I've had that [censored] for about a year now, with STILL no bloody fix in sight for it.
I now copy ALL posts into my clipboard before trying to post it. -

I know the people in closed beta already know, but it's so frustrating* not knowing which maps are going to be included at launch
I'm hoping for the floating island map from the scirrocco arc or the clockwork king warehouse one from the synapse TF
*The above comment could be construde as an understatement!

According to previously released information, ALL maps currently in the game will be available for the MA to use, totaling approx 1000 maps in all. -
[ QUOTE ]
MA will give us a chance to do something different with those maps.
Look out for my "find 37 glowies in the Eden Spire" mission.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hey! I was going to put an "Escort the hostage out" mission in there!
-
[ QUOTE ]
I don't know about others here, obviously not role players etc, but I just click anything with writing and do my missions, I very rarely read them anyway, so all the wondrous stories people have planned would be wasted on folk like me i'm afraid. But them I don't plan to use the MA anyway.
[/ QUOTE ]
This kind of attitude always puzzles me, TBH. Without the storylines, this game is INCREDIBLY boring to play after a few weeks... -
Signed, stamped, sealed, engraved in diamond, and delivered!

We also need a system to get an idea of what for party is required. Most obviously designed for solo play or party play.
I am not overly enthusiastic about bumping into an AV every mission I enter or for that matter even EB's when I solo.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hopefully, Mission Architects will put information like that in the opening dialog; but it would be nice if we can set a series of searchable flags so that people can filter on what they're looking for... -
From the updater, tick the "Safe Mode" option. The game will start up in minimal graphics settings and you can then adjust them to your liking.
Note: There is a "bug" in resolution changing. To make it stick properly, select the desired resolution in the options and click "Apply". The resolution selection will go back to what it was. Select it AGAIN, but do NOT click apply. Just exit the game back to desktop and reload. That should fix it for you.
If it still doesn't work, make sure your video drivers are updated. The stock Vista ones are NOT good enough.
Welcome to the game!

Although summoning Lusca on a 2 man team would be pretty funny..

That would be funny.
player 1: Well those AV's were tough. it can't get any harder
player 2: wanna... kin.. bet.. ?
Lusca: rrraaaaaagghhhhhhh!!!!!!
Player 1: oh sh......
[/ QUOTE ]
Indeed!
Important note for anyone playing any arcs I may happen to create. I *am* going to kill you, in several interesting ways...
-
[ QUOTE ]
Instead of a timer how about positional ambushes? As you pass each part it sets off an alarm that comes to get you. Getting tougher and tougher as you go along until the final room that has 2 AVs summoning a GM. Don't take them in time and hello GM.
I am sort of looking forward to creating missions I just hope that it can keep up with my expectations.
[/ QUOTE ]
Also something I've been considering.. Depends on if you can make your own GM or not, really!
Although summoning Lusca on a 2 man team would be pretty funny...
-
[ QUOTE ]
If it had a reasonable timer on it this could be great fun. Just normal ambushes (with bosses) forcing the team to fight on two fronts really adds to the chaos (or maybe we were just a particularly chaotic team
Good fun though).
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, depending on what the MA lets us do, this sort of thing is planned for one of my arcs.
But it won't exactly be farmable, as you'll have to do the rest of the arc first!
-
[ QUOTE ]
After finishing the Dark Watcher arc on Friday with my SG I do hope we can make interesting end of mission bits like that, with a constant stream of ambushes. Makes it far more interesting than just hitting the big bag of Hit Points until it falls over.
[/ QUOTE ]
How about a stream of ambushes with an AV in each one, set on a timer so if you aren't fast enough you get multiple AV's kicking your butt?

. Even if tiny 0.1% of arcs would be any good, that's still dozens, maybe hundreds of good ones. Finding them might ber a problem though, look at any fanfiction site...

Which means that anyone with a load of mates will rapidly raise to the top while some unknown genius stays at the bottom of the ratings. Asking a community to rate almost always turns into a popularity contest. Some genuinely good ones will raise to the top, but the majority will get there due to "I have to vote my mate up"
[/ QUOTE ]
Excessive voting up OR down will be looked at by the devs (more likely to be GM's) in case of abuse. They've already said this a few times... As long as they keep to their word on that, it shouldn't get too bad.
I also suspect that places like the Titan Gaming Network will do reviews of player content, so will be a prime place for finding the good ones. -
