  1. You do realise that, knowing we were so close to having LUA scripting implemented, just makes the loss of the game even WORSE!?

As a programmer, I know just how much more the devs would have been able to do with that... The possibilities were endless...

EDIT: In fact, I'd go as far as saying this was the kind of technology you'd expect in a game sequel! So many possibilities... Lost....
  2. Hey Leif, long time no see!

Alas, though most of us here know the truth of what you speak, convincing those around us who don't play of that is an uphill struggle. In fact, in some cases, it's a sodding cliff face.

I'm lucky in that my partner knows how much I'm going to miss the game. She's even asked me if I'm going to remake my main in another game...

Being cryptic is often a tactic employed by those who know nothing yet want to look like they do.

I agree with Feycat. Stop pi$$ing people off with the cryptic horse poop. Either say what you know, or quit needlessly raising people's hopes.

Lucky you... I'm on 120mbit. The sodding thing started playing before Chrome had even finished switching tabs!

I tried it Saturday. Ping was through the roof, lag was at 40+ second for power activation. I couldn't zone or use any means of moving to another map (Pocket D teleport, Orob portal), and NPC's were rubber banding all over the place.

Yep. I've been through the process before, several times in fact. First time it happened things were going great, until one day, on December 24th, we were all given our marching orders without warning.

    The current situation.... bares watching.
  8. The forums and servers are managed by a 3rd party. There's likely a 3 month notification of termination clause involved.

    No, no, no, no, no.

Turn the forums OFF immediately after sending the email that he's unbanned, so that he can't post.
  10. Hey guys,

Slight OT here, but I just want to apologise to anyone who was offended in any way by my earlier comments and laying of blame. Seems I'm more upset by this whole thing than I realised, and was hitting out at people that totally didn't deserve it.

So, I'm sorry. I apologise unreservedly for my prior comments and freely admit I was being a jerk.
  11. Thanks Z. After reading this, I realised that I was hitting out at some people in my posts partly blaming free players for the games downfall.

That was wrong and hurtful to a group of people who didn't deserve it, and love the game just as much as I do, and I apologize unreservedly. At my age (almost 43), I really should know better than to blame people for something they didn't cause, so I guess the news hit me in ways I didn't expect.
  12. I refuse to get my hopes up until this rumour is officially confirmed.

    Better once crushed, than twice.

    Says another freeloader.
  14. Which means, of course, that we'll all gradually lose access to the incarnate content; one by one.
  15. There are lots of similar threads already in General. Best to keep it all in one place.

In nearly 8 years, I have paid on a rolling 1 month renewal. Sure, I could have saved a little by subbing for 6 months etc, but I never did. I paid the full amount every month.

Games like this will always have players coming and going and the designers know this from the outset. It's all about churn. These people that you cite did not contribute to the games fall, they contributed to the games 8 year success.

I blame enhancement divercification (and the nerfs) from all those years ago. The game never got those numbers back and left it weaker than it should have been.

I also blame NC for not advertising their super hero game when the very target market they should be targeting are out spending billions of dollars going to see the Avengers and all the other super hero movies. (which kind of implies that mid teens to early thirties types.the same people that enjoy gaming, actually are into super heroes.)
Unfair? Perhaps. But also true. If you're not supporting with either market purchases or subscription fees, then you're contributing to the reasons for cancellation.
  19. Hey Melissa, remember me? We met at the Omega Sektor meet in Birmingham some years back, before NCSoft closed down the UK office.

Like many, I'm completely gutted, and utterly dumbfounded, at NCSofts decision to axe City of Heroes; but nothing upsets me more than the fact that the livelihoods of a lot of very hard working people, people who've given me 7+ years of fun, have been lost.

I wish there was something I could do, something I could say, that would take the sting out of this thoroughly heartless decision, but at the end of the day, all I can really do is say...

Thank You. Thank you for 7+ years of fun. Thank you for coming over to the UK to visit us folks and have a really good time. Thank you for taking note of the bugged Supatrolls and getting them fixed! Thank you for endless jokes scattered throughout the game.

Just.... Thank you, and all the best, to everyone at Paragon Studios.

There are ways and means of doing the same thing. The one they've chosen is the wrong one.
  21. I've gotta ask... How many are left in the offices until shutdown? Were you all canned on the spot?
  22. Nope. They basically just shot us and the devs in the face.

Lots of people are saying that. Forgive me, but... if you truly wanted to support the game, you'd have already been a paying subscriber.

Not pointing any fingers, but those who "were going to come back" have contributed greatly to this outcome.
